I don't think I fully appreciated the quality of her living situation until the last few weeks. My mom suffered a fall and needed hip replacement. My mom will be returning home tomorrow after surgery to a full array of help from familiar faces. Ten days in a skilled nursing/rehab hospital is a stark reminder of how much we need places like Oakmont to care for our elderly. I am so thankful that she sold her house and moved to assisted living before we were up against the wall with a health crisis. I know she will be well cared for at Oakmont.

I had to place my cousin in a home for her Dementia 2 years ago and when I was searching I had picked the most beautiful and most costly facility that appeared to be what I thought was the best! Well, don't let the same mistake happen to you like me. After realizing my mistake and then finding GRACIOUS LIVING I couldn't be happier for finally having peace and mind for my dear cousin!! The staff (Emma, Jerome & Edith) was so GRACIOUS,ATTENTIVE,PATIENT and COMPASSIONATE with my cousin and our family!! I wish I had been introduced to Gracious Living upon my first search!! Please give Paul or David a call and go visit there homes. My cousin was in the Upper North house! I highly recommend this OUTSTANDING FACILITY!! In her room, she has a single bed, a large recliner, a dresser, two large chairs and a small desk for her computer with a chair. She has a nice big window with a view of the garden that she can see from her chair. With all this in the room, she still has lots of space to maneuver her walker safely and get to the window and her air handler to make herself comfortable. The food is very good. We eat there often with my mom. Most of the servers make an effort to remember my mom's preferences and they bring her what she wants before she even asks. Staff is attentive, concerned and proactive. The front desk is a hub for all information and if they don't know the answer, they follow up. I will post more updates in the months to come. Overall we made the right choice.

So much so that they made us feel more like friends than residents. I visit her once a month (or so) and we have gone to the resident dining maybe twenty times. From the first time I was shocked by the quality of the food. My first time I was expecting an old-school cafeteria-style food service with metal trays and food slopped onto the plate. This was completely different. The food was shockingly good, and the meal of the day (lunch) always has a soup, a main meal and a dessert. It's not overly fancy but the food in actually really tasty and they give you good size portions. The staff are very attentive and polite and the experience is a very pleasant dining experience. Today we had garden vegetable soup along with pot roast, scalloped potatoes and peas, with apple pie for dessert. The pot roast was excellent and the potatoes were exceptional. You know the food is good when the head chef/manager of food service is there talking with residents to make sure she gets feedback concerning the food that she prepared. Currently the dining area in being remodeled and should be done by the end of this year. So, the dining area currently is less then amazing, and what they can offer is limited. I'm looking forward to the new dining experience once they have their grand opening later this year.

After three months of paying that rate for our rent we received a bill saying we were quite a bit of money behind. When we tried to inquire at the office as to how that could be it was impossible to ever find anyone available and we couldn't get a return call. We were able to determine they were charging us a much higher rent than we were originally given. The amount was also above the amount allowed by rent control. We were able to get the rent control information through someone at the City of upland. We had to write to the main office with all of the details and supporting documentation to resolve our problem. Once it got to that point they were quick to resolve our problem but it was very frustrating trying to deal with the office.

Although there were some unpleasant moments there, I loved seeing the rest of the facility and visiting the refreshments corner of the dining room. It would have been beneficial for us to do be able to work in other areas, but I guess I should have picked a better school. If you're an employee here (one of our students is a med tech here), you're free to use the swimming pool, and meals are discounted. I think for a normal person, it's around $9. It is made to order, so it looks pretty fresh. Next to it is the bird sanctuary, and a block or two away is there woodwork shop, although I personally never saw it. They have residential and assisted living surround the cafeteria, and across from the Woods side is the memory care unit, which we did not enter. It has a peaceful vibe to it and is nice to walk around. Definitely get a tour of the place with someone, so you can see everything.

The employee that answered my call, is the same person that got such wonderful praise on yelp. So, of course I thought this should go smoothly. Instead she offered to send (message, images) via email. Still not showing, nor anything in my message center. I'm sure I did something wrong, so I'll make another call to see if she's not too busy to give me a tour. Then I'll be more willing to offer an opinion about this business.
