This gym is truly the best! Their small group personal training has been a lifesaver as I've been digging myself out of a hole of chronic back pain. Transitioned from weekly physical therapy to lifting twice a week with these fine folks and 3 months in I feel so much stronger and my back pain has improved significantly! As far as what to expect with small group training: you get your own personal workout plan and guidance aligned to your goals with the added benefit of a couple of other folks also working out to socialize with. I love this way of learning about fitness and being challenged and it's been great being on this journey with other folks as well! It's become a non negotiable part of my routine that I absolutely love. The trainers are super kind and friendly and very knowledgeable when it comes to modifications but also aren't afraid to tell you when they think you can do more. Devin also has great taste in music This gym is super inclusive and a considerate neighbor to all folks that hang out on Cap Hill. The location is awesome and very walkable but for those days you need to drive you can generally find street parking pretty easily by the park. I've been working out with Rena of Uplift Fitness for a year and half. I do in-person coaching (1 hour) once a week, then work out on my own 2 days a week with a plan she creates for me monthly. I totally recommend reaching out to her and Uplift Fitness if you're seeking out a trainer, especially if you work out at Rain City Fit gym. Over this time, I've learned so much when training under Rena. She is extremely knowledgeable and a great teacher. I've had trainers in the past, but I've never stuck around with one as long as I did with her. I feel that I just keep on learning, and she's just so fun to spend time and chat with. She's able to answer why we may be doing an exercise, what muscles it targets, and PROPER FORM & BREATHING. I can't stress that last point enough. I've had trainers in the past that taught me everything wrong, this explains why I had body pains in the past and couldn't push myself hard enough. However, Rena has been a blessing in ensuring that I'm tackling exercises in a safe and attentive way. Even during covid-times, she was able to create an at-home plan when the gym was closed. This helped me keep motivated and not regress too far with my in-gym progress. These have been super tricky times and she has been extremely accommodating with every curveball that's been thrown at us. After all this time training with Rena, I can confidently say that I'm stronger and more knowledgable than I've ever been. I connected with Rena and Uplift Fitness at the end of 2020. I had help finding Uplift as a powerlifting friend of mine encouraged me to go to Rain City Fit and recommended Rena when I was looking at the trainers at the gym. As I read about what appeared to be an exceptionally healthy approach to programming and lifting, I was still concerned about how this would work. I didn't want to be treated poorly and that was what I associated trainers with: spraying shame mid-set, seemingly disappointed if you don't hit certain numbers, or even saying something should be easy when it doesn't feel that way. I had an image of less care and more unnecessarily brutal boot camp regimens, and was blown out of the water when I was greeted with care for my body and mind in conjunction with a program that made sense for me. Rena is always kind, gentle, and funny. She will drop weight or stop after a set to implement other movements that will facilitate proper form and technique. I once hid my pain, but learned how foolish that was rather quickly and have kept communication open with Rena. She in turn has helped me move from a body that was consistently being injured through wild workout plans found on Pinterest (not shaming Pinterest here) to one that can truly isolate and focus strength and mobility to stop unnecessary pain and soreness while pushing my max. The fact that she has shown me that we can have a chill workout has made me feel more empowered with my lifting. She also is there to encourage me to do more when she knows I can: she is confident in me and that makes me more confident! Though I have not worked directly with Devon and Alexa, they are both super sweet and positive people. They want others to succeed in their goals and you can see it and feel it. I loved hearing Alexa when she first started as she would offer a tour of the gym to her clients so they could feel confident in the gym without her. It's that kind of thing that we need; empowering people in spaces where we don't normally feel safe and comfortable. In about a year and a half I have put 5 inches on my hips, waist and chest, and I LOVE how strong my legs are and the way my ass looks in shop windows. Never thought I could be big and strong and happy, as I always equated happiness with a specific body image. I worked with Rena 3 times a week while I trained for a mountain expedition. Due to my sort of crazy work schedule, we had to meet at the ungodly hour of 5:30am. Rena was always chipper as could be, it was almost sicking really how excited she was to exercise. I had never done a squat in my like, I had never really done any meaningful exercise at a gym at all, actually. The only real experience exercising I have is cardio. She was super helpful, super patient and really just fun to hang out with. After only a few weeks we had running jokes, she would let me pick the music, though my brain wasn't really functional at that hour so she usually picked. I still have songs in my spotify playlist from our exercises. She has an awesome sense of humor that really makes the time fly. She is clearly knowledgable about exercise (one would hope with a personal trainer right? Kind of seems like a given), nutrition (again, I feel like this goes without saying, but maybe this is what tips the balance and makes you decide to pick her). I am currently focusing on other goals, but when I come back around for another mountain expedition or I am just trying to get stronger/healthier, Rena is the one I trust. She's great. Do it. Uplift Fitness really focuses on your goals and gives you a realistic expectation of how to achieve them. I've been working with them for two months now and I can already see the results!! But with the coaches emphasis on a balance diet and the correct exercises, I've been able to accomplish way more than I thought-- of course with the help of their discipline. I worked with Rena 2-3x/week for the past 10 months and it was great! My focus was building muscle and getting stronger and that has definitely been the case. The amount of weight that I can lift keeps increasing and I notice these little arm muscles that were not there before. Rena is so great at balancing pushing me so that I lift what I'm capable of but not pushing too much so that I injure myself! Rena is also super knowledgable about body mechanics and what works best. For example, I ended up injuring my shoulder outside of the gym and she was able to translate what my doctor's suggestions were into a program that still helped me achieve my goals. AMAZING!
