I called to confirm an appointment on a 12 week checkup, no one could tell me anything. They told me I cancelled my appointment. They then say they have been calling me to verify something for weeks, but I have no calls, no messages. I then spoke with Kathy, the office manager, and she was nothing but rude, condescending, dismissive and had an excuse for every short coming on the offices behalf. Never an apology or even acknowledgment just trying to pass blame. I made an appointment for 3 pm. I had all of my paperwork done prior to arrival at 2:50. I waited in the lobby for 15 minutes before going into a room. I am still in the room right now and it is 3:53 and the doctor hasn't come in. I know my time isn't as valuable as his - and perhaps there's an emergency- but still... I feel slighted and disrespected. Edit: Finally got seen. Nice doctor, professional and kind. Office manager apologized for the inconvenience which was also kind. What an unprofessional, rude, and inconsiderate office! They repeatedly sent me reminders about my upcoming appointment. "If you are unable to make this appointment, it is important that you call us at 212-986-9200 as soon as possible so we can make other arrangements." But absolutely zero common courtesy to notifying me that my appointment was canceled. They waited until I signed in at the front desk to tell me I could NOT be seen. No apology!! No rescheduling!! Nothing!! Office etiquette 101..Apologizing is the most effective and cheapest way to turn around a bad patient experience, but nothing! Dr Bergang has been my doctor for over 5 years now. I love her and this practice. They're close to home, but always kind and my doctor has always been honest in my treatments and been with me through my cervical spine surgery's and supported me afterwards. Dr. Rosen is my "carpenter who really likes blood" - a.k.a., my orthopedist. He's been my doctor for almost ten years and has operated on me four times. A rare genetic condition called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome leaves my ligaments and tendons as strong as old rubber bands. I've suffered dislocations, tears, sprains and ruptures in nearly every joint. Dr. Rosen understands what being broken does to the soul, and his bone-dry sense of humor helps me handle my plight. Dr. Rosen's skill as a surgeon is beyond compare. My recovery from the three ACL replacements (!) he's done on me have been astonishingly short; pain and discomfort almost non-existent. He's jammed Pulp Fiction-sized needles into my knee and somehow I thanked him afterward. To address the review that said Dr. Rosen was somehow dismissing the complaints of women: I have been treated by more than my fair share of orthopedists. All were brusque, ego-strutting alpha males who only liked ringing up big bills and looking up my skirt while examining my wobbly knees (it turns out none of them actually fixed me very well, either). Not Dr. Rosen. I have always found him to be warm, professional and beyond courteous: even making sure to drape a blanket over my thighs and waist before he examined me. I recall commenting that he was the first orthopedist not to look up my skirt. He smiled honestly and quizzically: "I'm a gentleman," he replied, "a Southern one, at that." He has a gigantic heart that he would wear on his sleeve if he could. I will never run a marathon, but I feel like I could if I wanted to. And for someone with a condition like mine, that's amazing. This office is the most efficient run doctors office. Everyone is pleasant and willing to be helpful. you never wait long to be seen. Dr Fitzsimmons is a wonderful doctor. His friendly approach makes you at ease. He is very knowledgeable about his specialty. The person who does the X-rays is so lovely and knows her stuff. The service is perfunctory, at best, so do not expect any particular attention to the details of your condition. There is also an inordinate amount of waiting time as the office tries to cram as many appointments as possible into the shortest period of time. I had experienced the worst and most disrespectful doctor's appointment ever. I saw Dr. Fitzsimmon's for my chronic bad shoulder and he recommended cortisone shots. We were discussing other treatments and came back to coritsone shots and was contemplating whether it would appropriate. As I was hesitating, he let out a smirkish laugh and said I should try something different. I felt so disrespected and so belittled as I have dealt with this for decades. He also took a tone with me to the effect that he's the doctor and he knows what he's doing when I was trying to understand why surgery might not be an option. I wrapped up our appt and left out of there so hurt, disrespected and emotional. He called me afterwards to apologize twice which I appreciated but the damage was already done. I felt so sad after the appt and never felt so humiliated and disrespected. He also said that his laugh was a coping mechanism, which doesn't bring much comfort. I filed a complaint with the office manager as well. Waste of money and time as I paid my copay and they are claiiming my benefits so that I could feel disrespected and belittled. This was the worst doctor's experience ever and it represented everything wrong in the patient doctor relationship. They offered me to see Dr. Rosen who I never met, but I just did not want to be back at that office ever again. read more

I scheduled an appointment for my hip pain. The appointment process was efficient and quick. The office emailed me some forms and online links to set up my visit with preliminary information; the space itself is bright and airy with plenty of seating. I was called in within 5 minutes on both my initial and follow-up visits; the facility has a fully-equipped x-ray room and within 15 minutes I was seen by Dr. Fitzsimmons who explained my x-rays and patiently conducted his own examination on me. I found him to be extremely knowledgeable and patient without any hint of rushing me to treat his next patient. Dr. Fitzsimmons explained my condition in detail but also in practical terms; I felt confident about his approach and treatment plan. He is the rare combination of an excellent professional and a warm human being. I hope I don't need to see him or any other doctor soon but if I do, I will be safe in the knowledge that I am in very good hands with Dr. Fitzsimmons. read more

After the way, I was treated with regard to medical records. I guess there is another problem they have in their office. After the SECOND time, they mishandled the situation and cost me $55 for my records and mailing. Read what I wrote on below and you will understand why I am so upset. Guess that was why I am no longer using Dr. Bergand after being her patient for 9 Years. By the way, I do understand there is a fee, But some doctors helped me out by not charging me anything and being worthy of being called a human being. This whole thing is about policy and the management team they have in place. They either don't care or just reading from their policy manual what to do. A letter that I sent to a Dr. who was my former pain management Dr. I know they won't paste it on their site but I had to vent. Dr. Rosen, by the way, Is excellent, even though I can't get to his office because of distance.our relationship after 9 years was great and find another pain management Dr. other than Dr. Bergang Now I have a workers comp hearing. When I called they said they would send the medical release form which I waited over a week and then called again, was told there was a fee. Yes, I know there was a fee .75 cents per page. Wonder why all the other doctors didn't charge me a cent. They were human and interested in my welfare. All this office is how much can I take from workers comp. Now they say well NYS says 30 days, NYS says .75 cents. I was willing to pay it even overnight to me. Told I would get call backs. Has anyone heard from them on a call back. Or maybe they dialed the wrong number all the time. This is now the second time I have had to deal with their incompetent office staff. Telling me we will call back and now geeesh only of weds. they can do it. Don't they have a Monday, Tuesday, Thurs, person there. I may be upset now but this is the way an office should not be run. Be sympathetic to the patients when they need information and help. Don't quote from their Bible this is this and that is that and YOU HAVE TO Adhere to what they say or you will be branded a bad person. If I ran a business like their office runs theirs, I would have been out of business a long time ago. A very UNHAPPY former patient of Dr. Bergands. Dr. Rosen, by the way, Is excellent, even though I can't get to his office because of distance. This has nothing to do with the doctors, but they do make their own policy. I've never felt so dismissed and offended by a doctor before. After waiting 30 minutes for someone to actually come into the room they told me to wait for the doctor for, I found myself speaking to Dr Rosen for about 10 minutes. The whole time he was dismissing what I said and claiming that if I had been a "football athlete" who had an injury, then the pain I feel would be "understandable" and "worth looking into." After several years of trying PT, MRIs, X-rays, Medication, acupuncture, etc All this man could do was not so subtly imply that I was exaggerating and because I was not a manly football player who did actual sports (because apparently life-guarding, swimming and tennis aren't dangerous sports) that I could just benefit from some PT.Oh and that's not even the best part, I get billed $118 for a 45 min initial consult. 30 mins of which I spent essentially begging to be seen. I've made my complaint and they're looking into it now. But I wouldn't step foot back into this office. Women are constant victims of sexism and discrimination. Research even reports that medical professionals take longer to address women's pain due to harmful stereotypes associating women with being more irrational and emotional than men, and therefore dismiss their complaints about pain as being in their mind. I honestly hated my experience here because of this. I was not taken seriously and was dismissed and it honestly concerns me thinking about all the women who may have experienced this too, both generally and here. read more

I was referred to Upper East Orthopaedics by two running friends who had great care there. The office is immaculate. The staff is friendly and efficient. The doctors are caring and knowledgeable. And they are athletes who understand what drives us and how to help. I was seen by Dr. Fitzsimmons and diagnosed with a meniscus tear and a meniscectomy performed by Dr. Rosen was recommended. I did a bit of research and came to the same conclusion. The surgery took only a few minutes. The pain was gone and never came back. The knee has been tested in 4 marathons and a 3-week trek to Mt. Everest in the 5 months since the procedure. Not one issue - the knee is acting like my knee of old. More recently I've also had heel pain in the other leg which Dr. Fitzsimmons diagnosed as plantar fasciitis. The stretching regimen he taught me seems to be doing the trick as my heel is "heeling" (sorry, couldn't resist). I had severe pain in my left shoulder and arm so I went to see Dr. Rosen. After X-Rays he told me I had a form of Tendinitis and gave a shot to reduce the inflammation. While this could have been done by any doctor, Dr, Rosen reassured me that this was not chronic and there was no reason for future worry. Dr. Rosen had reassured me in the same manner a few months before concerning my left foot which is now fine. I mention this because the concept of reassurance to someone my age (nearly 79) is as important to me as diagnosis. In my youth, this would have been understood as comforting bedside manner. Today, when this aspect of care is not so prevalent, I appreciate a Dr. Rosen all the more. read more
