April 16, 2026: The day we finally chose to put our much loved elderly Shih Tzu to sleep. We arrived promptly for our appointment at 9am. Having always been made to wait around endlessly in the consulting room at prior appointments, which made our dog anxious, we opted to be outside. We were kept waiting for 20 minutes, a lifetime when faced with such a deeply emotional event. I sat in a chair and held my dog close to my chest as Dr Crosetto gave him his "sedative". Moments later, he became bewildered and panicked and tried to get off my lap. I held on so tight as he pulled his body rigid and howled out in pain and then went completely limp in my arms. Dr Crosetto came back out and had to give two shots instead of one before his heart finally stopped. I am traumatized as I lay awake nights reliving what appeared to be torture. How do I find peace, when I actually paid someone to treat him this way! I have had many pets put to sleep over the years and all of them passed peacefully in my arms. In an attempt to put this behind me, I sent Dr Crosetto/Upper Keys Veterinary Hospital an email asking for an explanation for my pets panic, pain and distress that day. My email of May 1st has been met with silence. I'm desperate to put this behind me and in the hope of some good coming out of this dreadful experience, I share this in memory of my precious pet who deserved so much better. read more

I've taken my dogs here many times simply because it is convenient. Every time I leave I think to myself I won't be coming back. The staff is rude.. you wait in the room forever, and what they charge is out of control. You're better off going to homestead to see Dr Avocado. Better to drive up to Homestead where you have real professionals. Key Largo tries to convince people they are professional but more often than not they are lacking basic education, certainly not professionals and little to no experience in proper customer service. Dr Crosetto and her staff really stepped up to help a local pooch . They were able to accommodate a last minute visit , even on a Saturday. Retail Dr Crosetto explained in such great detail and in an understandable way what the issues and prognoses was after examining the pup. She took her time and really gave great suggestions and information. Henry the vet assistant was absolutely wonderful . His bedside manner and the way he handled the pooch I brought in was with compassion and care.He administered the pet meds for a feisty Chihuahua with ease. Emma at the front desk also was very helpful . She emailed info I needed immediately, and was happy to print out all the information I needed from tests and prognosis. I have a different vet in the area - where I take my own dog , but I am considering a switch . My Vet has changed hands recently, and with that the standard and prices have changed significantly. Horrible place to take your pet. They almost kill my dog, they put him to sleep just to do X-rays. There was no need for that, he was there from 8:45 am until 1:30 pm. He was probably winning and it was bothering them. I was waiting outside from 11:50 am, they supposed to close at 12 noon that day. After calling few times, finally some rude technician walk him out ( he was there because he was having problems standing and walking) she was very rude, and stand next to the car expecting him to jump in. This all happened on Memorial Day weekend. On Sunday he was having heavy green discharge from both eyes. On Monday he was shaking his head all day and his eyes were going side to side. As of today 6/18/21; after going to another Veterinarian who literally save his life, he is still not barking and still have a strange cough. I have no idea how they're still open, their license should be taken away. read more

I have been taking my pets to VCA for 15 years. Over the last few years, there has been a revolving door of veterinarians employed at the clinic. In February I brought one dog after he injured his leg. I waited 10-14 days for the x-ray results and they sent off x-rays for his heart. When I visited the specialist in Miami, the technician could not understand which leg was hurt from his chart because VCA's notes did not properly identify the correct leg. More recently I tried to have my other dog's seizure medication reordered and the VCA told me that according to their records they had never prescribed her the medication. VCA has been the dog's only vet for ten years and she has been on the medication for eight years. Incompetence abounds at Islamorada's VCA. read more

I went here for some routine shots for my two dogs. First let me say the vet tech was very kind and helpful. However, when the vet walked in, she did not make eye contact nor introduce herself. I never got her name during the eight minutes of time she was with us. Granted 8 min out of the 2 full hours I was there. (Also those eight minutes cost $120) While working through all the pricey tests they recommended, I had to call my family member who helps with the pets. The vet seemed irritated by the need to discuss all of the options and I felt as if I was bothering her. But when you are being asked to pay $2,000 dollars for a vet visit that you thought was routine, I would hope they had patience to discuss it. We ended up doing $300 of the suggested $500 worth of bloodwork. We were told the results would be given to us the next day by phone. Here we are 2 and a half weeks later with no results. We called at 11am today and they said the results must have not been put in the chart, but now it is and the vet would call us this afternoon. read more

Used to be a great vet, now it's awful. Our cats have both suffered unnecessary trauma - first from a tooth cleaning (he developed a mystery illness and couldn't walk straight for two weeks) then second cat was returned with her canine missing after a routine visit (was told she "freaked out and knocked her own tooth out") and our dog acted strange for a week after a routine visit - nervous and kept sitting down when I walked her. I had to take all three pets to another vet for proper treatment. Groomer also bad - had to take dog to another vet after grooming because her anus was red and irritated. Not a great experience. Went there 12/7/20 for some blood work on our sick dog (we had an appointment). Waited 2 hours in the lot while they had her inside, which is way too long. Asked them to trim her nails as well, on which they did three out of four paws. Doctor never called to go over blood results in spite of my follow-up phone calls. I did manage to get the results emailed to me, but need to discuss with the doctor. Still waiting as of today (12/25). We've given up and moved on to a new Veterinarian up in Key Largo. I have a 12 year old mini Lhasa who has been seeing Dr. Foley for most of his adult life. He had some really bad issues coming in to see Dr. Foley and his staff. He was able to identify it as an allergy issue. He helped us pick out better foods for my dogs specific breed and he did great after that! When we took him into see Dr. Foley he had chewed holes in his legs and now it's been years since that terrible time in his life and he is so healthy people think he's a puppy! The Florida Keys upper veterinary hospital is always helpful they always answer your calls and they are my favorite vet on the planet! Animals love Dr. Foley he has a very soothing presence I highly recommend even if your pet is healthy to see if there are improvements you could make to their diet or even their environment, my dog is allergic to coral! Vet tech took copious and accurate notes. Waiting time was minimal. Dr C was patient and thorough and direct. Staff obtained records from two previous vet clinics instantaneously. Dr. C's recommended treatment worked on a persistent and severe ear infection that has been non responsive to previous treatment plans for over one month. We have seen dramatic and quick results from current treatment and are grateful to Dr. C and her staff. Very fair pricing. If I could give it zero or negative stars, I would. I took my parakeet in for a simple beak trim. They killed my bird. I asked if they used a local anesthesia, like real professionals do, and they said no, nobody would. That's a lie. I took the bird to Marathon Vet Hospital for the same thing. They used anesthesia, took blood and did tests. The bird was fine. Next time I will take anything animal related to the professionals. Basically it was: Here's $20.00, sorry for killing your bird. From the time I enter and speak with the staff at the front desk, I sense deep concern for the animals and that they are there to help in any way possible. I strongly feel that my Mitzi is well taken care of and that they want to provide the best care for her. They take the time to explain the possible causes of some of her behaviors and suggest ways they can be treated. When I call with a concern, I am given an appointment quickly. This is a great place with wonderful caring staff. Sad that two bad reviews from apparently ignorant people brought down the place's "yelp" average. First of all trimming a birds beak is like trimming your nails. You don't put them under for it and second of all if boarding, most vets require that if its your first time there you meet with them. If a capstar was given the pet must have had fleas. Its a $5 pill so the woman shouldn't be griping. For someone who has so much " veterinary experience " she should know both of these things. As far as price gouging, its THE KEYS. Go to an expensive place and the vet is going to cost more than going to a small town place. Its like that with any service. Anyway, this place is huge, clean and Dr. Foley is wonderful. Don't hesitate to check them out. read more

As a person with 15 years veterinary experience I'm extremely disappointed with the price gouging at this hospital. I was passing through town with my dog who is fully up to date with vaccines as well as her prevention and medical needs. I needed to find a place to day board her while we visited a few local businesses. This hospital would not allow my dog to stay without an exam which is ridiculous and completely unnecessary. I stayed for the two minute exam which costed me additional and the veterinarian didn't have much to say. Not to mention the hidden costs in the fine lines they automatically administer capstar at the cost of the client. It was completely disheartening being on the clients end of a veterinary visit like this. This hospital is what's wrong with our field today. They have no competition as nothing in the surrounding areas were open or I would have gone somewhere else in a heart beat. Not to mention the poor rescue kittens up front had no water and there was a dog left in the yard completely unattended. I would not recommended this hospital to anyone in fact I encourage anyone in this area to look for another hospital because you're probably losing a lot of money. read more

I've been taking my pug here for years, after he was diagnosed with mast cell tumors, and Dr. Foley has done a phenomenal job of keeping his tumors in check. In tears I write this as it's been 3 weeks since my Whitecap passed suddenly, but beautifully with the help of all at this compassionate group !!!! And I recently received a card with little notes from 9 people who work there, though I saw only 3 angels that day. After waiting all night with a dog lying in a pool of blood I couldn't stop, and the ' emergency vet' was off Key Largo, I went from one vet to another down Overseas Hwy, being told, "no doctor:, "emergency fee", "no appointment", and ended up at the best hospital I've ever been. I've traveled the country and been to many, often opting for mobile vets because they care about the pet and not the overhead. A basket case, dirty, bloody and tear-streaked, UPPER KEYS VET HOSP. swooped me and my 13 yr old Chessie into a room, put up with my tears, gave him treats, explained the future, or lack there of, options, and... LISTENED TO ME.... YES, LISTENED TO ME.... (wish I could find a doctor for me like them)...offered to go back to Key Largo to let Whitecap die at home...yes REALLY!, and then, because I was in between paychecks, let me have the best price to let my family member pass on my lap in our car so he wouldn't be afraid... or maybe so I wouldn't be.... I can't see through tears to write anymore, JUST GO THE DISTANCE AND LET THE ANGELS AT UKVH HELP YOU. A stray came into our life several weeks before Whitecap left us, and I will drive happily to see the people who kept saying, "stop, it's not about the money... we'll help you !!"
