Treat yourself! LOVE this place. Call me a bakery snob, this bakery is so YUMMY! Great local bakery. I recommend you go to Uppercrust for yourself. It's worth visiting for that "butter meets fancy" feeling. The croissants are fresh and flakey, the Rosemary batards are a favorite, and go ahead and splurge on a rose's (ham and gruyere, is my pick). This place can get busy, but after you try the baked goods you will be a fan too. Line forms outside when there's a capacity limit inside, but worth it. Did I say "SO GOOD! " DELICIOUS! read more

This place is popular and small, so it forms a line outside when there's a capacity limit inside. The staff is friends and don't rush you, but it's good to be aware of other people waiting. There's a good variety of pastries which are well marked with signs and prices. The pastries are large and on the expensive side, so it's good to get a few and split with a friend to try more variety. We got a variety box to split, and everything tasted great and was nice and soft. Definitely ate everything the day we ordered. It's worth visiting if you want something a little fancier than you might get at other bakeries. read more

Every baked good is 10/10! I took a huge selection to my coworkers and grabbed about two dozens of different pastries and all the feedback was great! Their coffee is also fresh and made to order! Great spot but come early because they get wiped out quickly :) read more

Overall: Great local Gainesville spot. Love the baked good; fast service, and very cute ambience. Support this place - it's local and they make sure yummy baked goods! Ambience: A cute bakery with ample parking. There isn't a place to sit inside but there are tables outside for you to sit and eat or just wait til they bring out your coffee or food (not a baked good). I also appreciate they have a line and don't allow too many ppl inside, which as a someone who works in health I appreciate because CoVID and other respiratory viruses are rampant right now. Service: I've been here a few times and I've seen 2-3 ppl servicing customers. The coffee is made to order so it takes more time than just getting baked goods. Food: They sell freshly baked goods and even some warm foods. Make sure to check out the chalk board menu that they have outside of the bakery before going in. You can get coffee, but beware it does take them a few minutes for you to get it. I haven't gotten a single baked good that I dislike from here. Besides food they do have some drinks in the refrigerator you can grab and they sell other items like cards and stickers, I honestly can't remember what they sell because I only go for the pastries and coffee (which is usually an iced dirty chai latte). I highly recommend this place and their petite location near Haile! read more

Unfortunately for us we did not arrive early in the day so a couple of items we wanted to try had already sold out. We did enjoy a scrumptious croissant and a Nutella desert (don't recall what they called it). We were served promptly and both employees were very friendly. We also wanted to try a couple of their coffees but there was a problem with the water and it was being worked on. We would certainly like to return and next time much earlier in the day. read more

Cookie was awesome! First time trying quiche not a fan but it's not horrible so if you like it eat it! It's for you. Forgot the name of the peach pastry but that was SOOOOOOO good not too sweet was perfect. Ate the rosemary bread was good alittle hard but nothing a little butter cant fix. All in all it's a cute little place will be back for the pasty and cookie :) Also the server was sooo nice thank you! read more

There aren't many bakery options in Gainesville, and Uppercrust is definitely one of the most beloved spots in town. This is the go-to spot for French-style desserts, such as croissants and macarons. My favorite is the rotating selection of the French rose, which includes a croissant-like base, a generous lump of cream and a special topping, from Nutella to raspberry to blueberry and more. I've not found a tarte that I'm very fond of, but don't sleep on the fleur au pistache, the sticky walnut French rose or the iced honey latte! I've also heard Uppercrust's weekly wine tasting is a lovely experience. read more

You'll have to wait in line if you go on a Sunday morning, but it's worth it. I ordered a Nutella croissant, chocolate chip cookie, and ginger star cookie. Everything was delicious! I think the cookies were some of the best I've had. I didn't even take pictures because I just wanted to eat them! The bakery itself is pretty tiny so they only let in a few people at a time and the rest of the line is outside. In addition to baked goods, they offer some cool merch and other items. Definitely lives up to their reputation! read more

I've been living in Gainesville for 8 years and it's really my first time "buying" something from uppercrust. I say buying lightly because the nice guy behind the counter said it was on the house! How sweet was that; it was around 6:30 when we went and so they didn't have a lot left but I had my eyes on some macarons and I ended up picking the blueberry one! It was yummy, along with it being pressed and filled with white creme there was also blueberries filled in it. I was very surprised by that and wasn't expecting it! It was a nice sweet treat after dinner I must say. I love pastries but they love me way too much so I would go more often but that would mean I would have to work out many times a day lol. All in all it's a great place to go to get your pastry/sweet fix! read more

I wish I could give it more stars ! This hidden gem is perfect if you want a truly amazing snack, meal, coffee bread or a bottle of wine. Everything is cooked from scratch and you can tell. I don't get to go here often since it's on the other side of town. Luckily they came to me by being at Swamphead Brewery! The cupcake was absolutely delicious. Moist chocolate cake with a filling of sweet coconut goo. I love that the icing wasn't overly sweet or overwhelming. read more

The crunchiness to their pastries--right in the morning are amazing!! I love guava cheese!! The Nutella rose is good too!! My new favorite is the cinnamon roll with cream on the top!!! So yummy!!!! I haven't tried everything and I'm not local--we drive down from Georgia about every other month or two. I can't wait to try again! We have been to Uppercrust 3 times and it's amazing!!! Uppercrust has my heart!!! This local bakery is truly irreplaceable. It's quaint nature is something to admire. They have over 40 different pastries and something that satisfies every palate. Whether you're looking for something sweet or savory, they have a multitude of options for you. I ordered the Raspberry filled Croissant, which the Baker particularly told me that they make the Raspberry filling in house with local-picked ingredients. The pricing is only about $5 per item, which is quite reasonably given the size of the croissants. They don't have any seating inside, but they have enough tables outside to accommodate Uppercrust's quick customers. If you're looking for a quick treat, or even to treat someone else with a box of these wondrous gems that melt in your mouth, this is the place for you! read more

I came here on a Saturday morning and was impressed with the selection of pastries and bread! My friends and I ordered a selection of breads, pastries, and quiches. The rosemary baguette was my favorite bread! It's like a typical baguette but elevated with herbs that brings the bread to the next level. I also loved the spinach pastry! My favorite pastry shop in Gainesville! It is a quaint little shop and the service is always great! The pastries are always fresh and delicious! Some of my favorites are the chocolate croissant and the ham rose Gruyère. I wish I had photos but as good as I grab the pastries I gobble them up. Life is better with flaky croissants, especially on a weekend with some oat latte!!!!! The eclairs are melting in your mouth fantastic, the James Beard cake is to live for, and their loaves of bread are the best for making avocado toast!!! The almond croissant is melt in your mouth delicious! They have so many mouth-watering items, I haven't even tried them all yet. So, I get in the health mode and get the bread to make avocado toast but I end up eating 4 servings!!! A losing game, a sucker's plan, and a dumber and fatter fiasco but it is so tasty that it is worth it!!! I got some celery sticks and healthy meal plans to counter so I do not blow up!!! A very well calculated risk to take because life is better with flaky croissants!!! read more

This is our go to place for Sour dough bread and Scones, cookies etc. in Gainesville. Staff is friendly and pack your orders with care. Only drawback is they do not have or do not allow any indoor seating. They have a few tables outdoors but you are right next to the busy parking lot. You basically have to take your goodies to go only. So food is 5 Stars but Ambience is lacking. read more

Really awesome bakery. Like, have to get there early enough so they don't run out on you awesome. I even had a friend come in town from Austin, & she made Uppercrust a stop on our trip. Everyone there is super kind & willing to help. It's a little small, but it's got pastries, bread, wine, cheese. You pay for the quality you can taste. Around four o'clock on a Friday, there wasn't a full selection, but we were happy with our lemon tarte & French roses. The lemon tarte was perfect & subtle, while still showcasing the flavors it's supposed to. Definitely a good place to stop if you have a sweet tooth or just like good bread! Ana amazing bakery that would hold its own in NY, San Fran or anywhere is quite the amazing surprise find in Gainesville. Get the "rose" Croissants with both savory and sweet toppings, they were easily my favorite! The white bean, rosemary tomato soup was truly outstanding too and my intended taste turned into eating an entire bowl of it with a side of a mini rosemary baguette, also crusty and excellent. The only item that didn't do much for me was anything "butter bread". Others were saying they loved them so could just be personal, but to me they just tasted like bland rolls. Pastries galore!! Lots of different pastries to choose from that will satisfy many different types of sweet tooths! The atmosphere was homey and casual and they have drinks, cards, and more to buy along with the pastries. It is a little difficult when there are multiple customers there all trying to look at the pastry display, but the workers were all very aware of those who came and did their best to assist everyone. Checkout was smooth and easy With these types of pastries i was expecting them to be on the pricey side, each one around $4-5. I only tried the nutella one and I was overjoyed with the flakiness and overall taste. I've had pastries from here at other places (mostly coffee shops) but visited for the first time just last week. Super cute French bakery! I got a Paris Brest and an eclair; both were excellent, but the eclair was the standout. I usually find eclairs a bit unsatisfying--the choux is too dry, the filling a little lacking, and the chocolate lackluster. But HERE. It's filled almost to bursting, and the chocolate is rich and satisfying. Definitely want to try one of their tarts next time. read more

Visit us during our store hours from 8 am until 7 pm, Monday through Saturday. We are an artisan bakery, and all of our products are made by hand on the premises and presented on the day they are composed or baked. But it isn't just the freshness that is important to us. We try to present breads, croissants, pastries, and bistro fare that is engaging, stimulating and texturally interesting. We offer a full wine-tasting every Saturday, 1 - 4 pm. We select a weekly theme and feature wines from a small coterie of very special wine importers, as well as a sampling of our own bakery products. We feature an assortment of gift options including interesting French glassware, linens, fetching hand-made old-fashioned European cookie molds, cheeses, ceramics, luxury food products, and unusual wines. We can also custom-create a gift basket to your liking.

History

Established in 1981.

Uppercrust Productions was founded in 1981 by Jacqueline "Jackie" Dufty. She started a small bakery informed by her travels and experiences. By 1986, Jackie's products and ebullient hospitality developed a following that outstripped her cramped quarters, and she moved the operation to its current location in The Gainesville Marketplace. Thirty-seven years have seen a lot of change in the bakery, but since its inception four principles have guided Uppercrust: 1) "Close-your-eyes-delicious" food 2) An experience that enriches the mind as well as the senses 3) Continual improvement 4) Trust in our guests' good taste Jackie's steadfast commitment to those principles for over 35 years explains the bakery's long-standing place in the Gainesville community. We are grateful to honor and expand on her vision.

Meet the Business Owner: Ben G.

Ben inherited Uppercrust from the inimitable Jackie Dufty, and strives to honor Uppercrust's long standing as a beacon of taste in Gainesville. Ben learned firsthand from Jackie how our incredible products are prepared and served. Learning her nuances and flourishes, those acquired over three decades, have proven most instrumental of all his experiences in understanding what makes our bakery so special. Ben spent years gaining broad culinary understanding. Ben interned at Blue Hill the year it won Outstanding Restaurant: US from the James Beard Foundation while studying at the International Culinary Center in NYC. After a stint at the Michelin-starred Wallse, Ben spent formative years at Husk in Charleston, SC, one of Food and Wine's 40 Most Important Restaurants of the Last 40 Years. More recently, Ben completed a Master's in Hospitality Management from Cornell, concentrating in Restaurant Development and Organizational Behavior.

I ordered a veal spare rib meal with salad from the specials menu, my wife ordered the salmon sandwich. Both meals were fantastic and everything was very fresh. I would consider it to revile far fancier restaurants in terms of quality and presentation. If you are looking for a great place and don't mind sitting outside on a patio and busing your own table this is for you!

Jyeah, you could totally upgrade yourself into bankruptcy shopping interesting and unusual things but you don't have to. Stick to the script and you'll be better off for it. Employees were not friendly, and checkouts you have no way to know who was open, their checkout space is narrow . I have a detailed list of what i needed for our daycare, i was only able to buy 3 items on that list. What do families buy here that have children??Ended up going back and finishing up my shopping list elsewhere. It does seem to be slower that other grocery stores , now i know why...I check them out but they are not for me.

I ordered for pickup and when i got there around lunch time on a Friday, there were a few people inside. It was at that moment I realized there was a deli inside. While this place is like down the street from where I live, I had never actually been inside. Since it was busy, there was a tiny wait but nothing crazy. I told the woman what I needed and she quickly packaged up the cake. The taste was great! Now I will say I'm not used to Italian cheesecake, meaning I'm not used to there not being a crust but that's okay. I enjoyed it but more importantly the birthday girl was satisfied and that's all that matters. I do plan to go back to try other desserts and the deli .

I love walking around, checking out the booths, and finding new local treasures. One of my absolute musts now is a matcha drink from Honey Nitro + Cold Brew. I had never tried matcha before, but a friend recommended their version with vanilla or lavender, and oh my gosh, it was creamy, smooth, and totally addictive. I seriously didn't know I could love matcha this much! Pappa Thai's summer rolls are another go-to. They're fresh, flavorful, and honestly hit the spot every single time. Light but filling and perfect for walking around with. And I can't forget Proud Pickles, they're such a fun little stand, and I'm absolutely obsessed with their items. Sweet, tangy, spicy, you name it, they've got it. I'm giving 4 stars only because I wish there were a few more vendors but I understand Gainesville is a small town. It's a tad bit on the pricier side, but there's a great variety and most of the staples are imported from the East. They even carry Satya Sai Baba Nag Champa incense and body products here among other wonderful home & personal care items. I love that they offer spices in smaller packages for around $1 each just in case you don't need pounds of cardamom. However, they do offer bulkier amounts of all essential spices for Indian cuisine. A few of the items you will find here are cardamom (fresh and green!), cumin, clove, cassia bark and cinnamon, coriander, nutmeg, mustard seeds, fenugreek, turmeric, garam masala, and a plethora of curries! Omg! And the RICE! They have a great selection of big bags of basmatis! My favorite part of the store is they have ready-to-eat spicy samosas and kachori. They were huge and only $1.25 each. You could reheat them in the microwave they provided in-store or save them to take home and either crisp them back up in the oven or refry. They are not made locally. The samosas did not come with any type of sauce and I was told that I would have to buy some if I wanted it, but either way - I would come back here for those again. They were really yummy! The greatest discoveries for me were the boxes of Girnar Instant Cardamom Chai Milk Tea and the Girnar Instant Masala Chai Milk Tea. Each box contains 10 sachets to make yourself a delightful beverage at home by just adding hot water. This milk tea was also offered hot, pre-made in-store, but you're going to pay $1.99 for a tiny little cup. Just buy the box of 10 ($5.99 each). There are more flavors...
