The groomer couldn't finish my dog and then charge me $55/said it was for a bath. She is a lair... WTH? $55 to bathe a 8 pound dog. Do not go to this place. I have been a loyal client since when they small. And when the aunt was still alive. Since her passing apparently it's gone to crap. If you are worried about a 16yo dog maybe being too much you should reconsider being a groomer and at least make sure to put a muzzle on every dog. I am very disappointed in the grooming service here. My poor baby is traumatized from the experience. They did me so wrong it's not even funny. The groomer was obviously aggressive with dog and not patience at all is why she couldn't finish. I've heard horror stories about this place but always defended them. Terrible customer service and no loyalty to longtime clientele .. I was running late for pick up due to being stuck behind an accident for over an hour, called the facility to see if they could please accommodate for 15 minutes and sat on the phone with the woman till 6:13 only for her to tell me she couldn't wait an extra two minutes till I arrived. I was then forced to book the dogs overnight. When I questioned this practice the next morning, not only was I given distain, a nonsensical runaround, and some vague excuse about policy, but was treated as if I hadn't been taking the dogs here for over two years, every single week, without issue. The lack of accommodation for an emergency situation is dumbfounding. They even claimed they would refuse to pick up the phone five minutes before closing. If my dog is in your facility and you're not answering the phone at 5:55, that is a huge problem. What a backward and silly policy. I also asked why nobody would be here overnight to watch the dogs, only to be advised they actually lived on facility!! So you live on facility yet couldn't accommodate an extra two minutes for your loyal client?? Wow!! ..... To make matters worse, to my surprise, I am now banned from picking up my clients dogs for simply asking these questions. I specifically waited till there was nobody in the building, and there was no altercation or issue expressed with the conversation while it occurred. My client appreciated me speaking up about the issue and decided to remain loyal to me; she will be utilizing a different daycare after this horrible experience. Ignore the good reviews, this shows the shady character of the people who run it. I am a top rated dog sitter in Greenville and have multiple clients who have gone here for years. After this experience, I would not recommend the facility to anyone! There are other daycares with much better service who will actually care about you and your dog! read more

I began utilizing Upstate's services 15 years ago when I had my Bichon. I would take him to be boarded here often when going out of town. From the day I stepped in this business I felt the extreme care, concern and well being not only the staff had for the dogs but for the kindness they have for their owners. I tell others often that I would not ever take my dog anywhere else! When I had Moses the first person I met was Jill. She was so kind and explained everything that they offered so well. I remember her calming me down when I first SAW her huge GSD behind the counter. I said to myself I would NEVER EVER get a GSD because they were so scary looking. She laughed and assured me they were wonderful dogs. Her kind spirit is what I remembered of Upstate the most. RIP. Fast forward to today my husband and I are a proud owners of a GSD. He is the absolute joy of our life and I know Jill is probably laughing at me from Heaven to see what we have now. We have Gabriel signed up for obedience training in December and he absolutely loves every time we take him there. He really loves daycare end I do too because he gets that mental stimulation and I actually get to see him tired which never happens! He always barks ferociously to greet Jeff's GSD's at their gate when we arrive. So much so it almost knocks me to the ground when I try to get him out of the car. He's so excited! When we went to Santo Domingo for a week we came to pick him up and not only had he had an extreme growth spurt he was much better behaved from having stayed at Upstate Pet Resort. Our dog is a large high strung 3 year old male German Shepherd. Due to his being at home all of the time during the Covid years, his life was running up and down the fence barking at everything going past. He became isolated and was aggressive with people and other animals. We were worried he would bite the trainer but they advised not to worry because this is what they do. He was trained by Jeff and now him and Jeff are good friends. After 3 weeks of training, he now walks very nicely besides me. (Huge improvement). He has learned verbal and hand signal commands for sit, lay down and stay. We now go out on walks 2x per day. (Practice is the key to success). If he wants to bark at another person or dog, I tell him to lay down and stay and he does it. (He wants to please me but is still slightly high strung). Having him lay down usually quiets him down so I can talk with other people including those with dogs. That would have never been possible before. He has even made friends with 2 of our neighbors. We are very happy with the results we have obtained. These people really know what they are doing and I would recommend them. Now the ball is in my court by working daily with our dog. read more

I can't recommend Upstate Dog Training enough. Our Goldendoodle was pretty difficult at home, but after the 3 week program we have a different dog. The staff is incredibly friendly, and took time to get to know our dog. We could tell from our dog's reaction to the staff that she was very well cared for, and treated great. It's hard to trust your dog with just anyone, but if we need more training or boarding, I won't trust anyone but Upstate. read more

We had an AMAZING experience at Upstate Dog Training! We took our dog Dizzy to the three week board and train program and have seen a very positive difference in his behavior. We are really happy to have found a place where our dog was able to learn how to channel his energy and was loved and cared for by the staff. Brought my pitbull here for training she was somewhat people aggressive and we couldn't walk her anywhere near another dog. This facility completely changed my dog. Dog aggression is in her breed but Crystal and Jeff helped us to get her to listen so that she can walk by a dog without taking us to the ground. We learned some commands that really helped with her aggression. She has let her guard down around other people and listens to the commands from complete strangers!! They definitely helped us be in control. I am so grateful for them!! Luna also loves boarding there. She is not able to play with other dogs but that's completely fine they have staff members play with her and she seriously cries in the car when I take her to leave. At the time of training, my dog was around eight months old. I was going out of the country and needed to board her and figured that I might as well have her trained at the same time. At the time of drop off, my dog seemed to be in good health. She had regular bowl movements, but that was not the case after graduation. She had bloody diarrhea and appeared to be smaller, her harness didn't fit well and I had not adjusted it since she wore it last, and she had a rash on her belly. I waited two days before reaching out to the owner, Jill. She agreed that my dog needed to see the vet and asked that I let her know the findings. When I spoke with Jill the next day to let her know my dog tested positive for giardia and that she had lost 6lbs, she refused to believe me. Jill asked that the vet call her. Jill refused to pay for my dog's vet bills. I would not recommend this facility, although I did think the training went well. It was not worth the two vet visits, prescription food, and weeks of medications let alone a sad sick pup. read more

This place is huge. I took our two Newfoundlands to stay for the weekend and was concerned at first. The dogs do not think they are dogs and my concern was immediately quelled upon entering as no less than four employees came over and hugged them. They are attention hogs and it helped them as well. One of our Newfies is 12 and does not get around as well and they were fine when we picked them up. The only less than excellent comment I have was that I asked to have them brushed out, Newfies are notorious shedders and it helps tp keep them brushed, and wash them only if necessary. They got baths but did not get brushed out, which even with a bath should have happened. read more

These folks love dogs and it shows. They did an awesome job training our Reba. We did the three week program and they spent time every week going over what Reba learned and showed us the correct way to continue the training at home. We have also used them to board our puppy and I don't have to worry when Reba is with them. They are a little further away from us than other kennels but we don't mind because of he care Reba gets. If there were a way to give 10 stars, I would. We have been using Upstate Dog since we got our German Shepherd, Belle, 3 years ago. I'll start with their daycare program, which is wonderful. Dogs are put in age groups and allowed to have supervised play in a large fenced in field with a stream running through it. Belle always comes home absolutely exhausted. She falls asleep in the truck on the way home! They also have live-in training which is a great value! The trainers are so knowledgeable and patient with the dogs. Their overnight boarding is about the most reasonable you can find and you have lots of play options for only a small amount to add on. Their grooming services are stellar and a much better value than Petsmart! Belle always came back looking traumatized, not well groomed, as well as with flees at Petsmart. When we found out Upstate Dog did grooming, we jumped at the opportunity. She comes home looking absolutely amazing and happy and has never had flees again! You couldn't ask for more than that. This is a family-run business and you can tell! They know your dog by name when you walk through the door. There have been several times when we are running late from work to pick the dog up. They gladly have stayed a few minutes over until we arrived and didn't make us feel guilty. You truly cannot get this from anywhere else! Our eleven month old labradoodle enrolled in the three week long training class. At the end of the three weeks, he was tentative and unsure of the commands. Many of his responses were sloppy - as though he was guessing about what to do and where he should be. We let the staff and trainers know that we were disappointed.
