Preserving Yesterday Antique Center & Auctions - Auction items

Preserving Yesterday Antique Center & Auctions

Great antique store and auction house that just opened up in Via Port Rotterdam (old Rotterdam…read moremall) across from food court. Attended one of their auctions on Saturday that they have every two weeks. Prices at this auction were on the lower end and the quality of the items was great as well. The front of the store was a regular antique store with items for purchase ( mostly furniture and clothes). Prices for these items seemed to be reasonable as well. Auctions have a 10% buyers premium with 2% added if you are using a credit card. Their business hours are Wednesdays thru Saturday 11am-7pm. Sundays 11am-5pm. Auctions are every other Saturday starting at 1pm. I will definitely be back as their auctions are so fun.

In my case, I am the executor of an estate which had items to sell directly or through an auction. A friend found out about this place, spoke to the owner, and passed the information to me. I contacted him directly to get information on my options, and he said he would come to the property to look at the items. However, when I called to set up a date and time, he never called back. Subsequently the friend spoke to him again, and he made arrangements with the friend to come out (without contacting me). On the day that he visited he grossly misrepresented the value of items, gave a speech about his company (the third time I heard it, talked about auctioning the items, then made an offer to purchase everything as long as I didn't need a receipt. However, when I called him to accept, he refused to call me back and called my friend instead. As I am the only one who can sell the items, my friend called him back in my presence, and so got to hear how he didn't like the way I spoke to him and asked all my questions, like 'what is your commission structure for auctions" and "how long would it take until they were in an auction", which seemed reasonable business questions to me. He also backed out of the purchase for reasons that made no business sense. Do not trust anything he says. This is not a company, it's a way for this person to stroke his ego.

Do not entrust them with your valuables but they could possibly handle a sale of your junk…read more A disaster. Shady. My experience with this firm continues to cause distress 7 months after the debacle. Know This! These people are poorly organized and do not leave you feeling anything but angry and cheated. Nearly 3 months prior to sale we set a date. References were called but I believe they were family or friends. I was moving out of state so could not be there to oversee the sale. Two weeks prior to the agreed upon date , I was informed the date was moved forward one week . When I showed email proof, this firm changed back, but didn't reschedule another commitment so my sale was double booked. As a result I was told they wouldn't have enough time to properly prepare. ( and they didn't property prepare, it was total chaos.) It got worse. As promised, they advertised the sale for Friday and Saturday . On Friday morning, in another state, I receive a call from my security service. This firm was not at my home, but the public was. They were walking through my house and had tripped my alarm. J&k said they were at the other sale and "made a mistake" advertising the sale on a day they did not intend to be there, and "made a mistake" leaving my door unlocked. So the poorly prepped sale went on a day after strangers walked through, but J&K "reassured" me "nothing was missing." Know this: J&K will not provide you with a list of items sold, nor how much items were sold for. they will tell you that at the end of the sale they let buyers walk because "they were trying to and dime me." And lastly they will bring in another firm to charge you hundreds of dollars to clean out what didn't sell so that firm can resell it for their own benefit. Im not sure if there was conflict of interest. In summary, my advice, find an estate sales firm that knows estates.

The plant needed to be repotted because it was growing out of the pot that it was in. I was very leery and afraid of leaving it with the owner because it meant so much to me. The owner assured me that she would handle it with respect and care. About a week later I went back to get my plant and the owner told me that she left my plant outside in a storm and it was badly damaged. I was devastated and I began to cry. She told me that it wasn't her fault. It was an accident. She told me that she would try to nurse it back to health. She kept my plant for several months. I kept in touch with her. She kept telling me that the plant was doing wonderful and it's almost back to where it was when I brought it to her. When I finally did go get my plant, she told me all of my plants in my house and then my Shop died because I was busy and wasn't able to care for them. She was so rude, disrespectful, and nonchalant towards me and how clearly devastated I was. She said I saved some of the babies and I replanted them in this pot. She said this is all I can do for you and she asked me what do you want me to do. She yelled and said I asked you before do you want some money? There was nothing I could say that would come out respectful or calm. So I just picked up my phone and called the police. Because she was becoming I rate, screaming,, yelling and being disrespectful. I asked her several times. Why are you yelling? I have not once raised my voice, even though I am clearly upset. Her response to was because you're making me angry. While I was waiting in the parking lot for the police she looked me up and down and went back to watering. What was left of the half dead plants in her shop. A very nice police officer showed up a few minutes later at her shop. He spoke to me, then he went inside and spoke with her and came back out with what was left of a plant that was a part of my family for decades. She didn't say I'm sorry she looked at me, closed her door and walked away. I have attached before an after pictures of my aloe vera plant. The owner of this establishment is disrespectful,, unprofessional, and lack any type of work ethic and empathy for anything or anyone. Please do not make the same mistake I did and take anything to her and expect for it to be treated with some type of respect.

We also showed him a storage room at a separate location full of antiques, golf clubs, a guitar and numerous other items. He offered us $400 for everything. We thought that was quite low,but needed to move things quickly. He said he'd probably lose money because our things weren't really worth anything. We know that wasn't true. Mark also quoted us $750/day for clean out of the apartment after the sale. That is what we put in the contract he sent us. When the sale was over, he said the clean out fee was $1500/day. That is double what he quoted us. In addition, he paid us nothing for the storage unit. . He said that was part of the fees we owed him! He also wanted an additional almost $200 for his expenses! He later took off the additional amount, but still refused to pay us for the storage unit. Find a responsible and honest estate salesperson when you need one. We were in a hurry and didn't check around enough. It was a big mistake! Mark took advantage of our inexperience and need to clean out the apartment quickly. In addition, we found he was selling items from the apartment sale in his upcoming estate sales. He had said everything would be donated. When we mentioned that to him, he said he had to at least make some money from our sale since he didn't net enough. In the end, we were out the $400 for the storage unit and we made no money on the sale. The only positive was that the apartment was cleaned out and we didn't have to pay rent for another month.

AA Mazzone's Auction Service

AA Mazzone's Auction Service

Mazzone Auction Owned by Joe Mazzone, located at 3003…read moreCarmen Rd., Schenectady, NY 12303, phone 518-355-4821. This man has been in the auction business for over 30 years. He feels that he knows everything about the furniture, pricing, and will tell you that he has lots of contacts in which to sell your furnishings. He will look at your immaculate antique furnishings and tell you that they are worthless, he will then proceed to tell you that your wrong in thinking your furnishings are worth what you had them appraised for! He arrived in a large truck and then informed me after I agreed to auction off some of my furnishings that there would be a $50 fee if we did not help move my furniture into his truck. I made several phone calls to Mr. Mazzone trying to let him know the clear value of my furnishings, he was unwilling to listen to me. He did call me and one occasion because he had missed marked some of my furnishings and included them in someone else's lot of items to be auctioned off. This error on his part has not been resolved and when I did try to resolve it he became obstinate and rude. I attended his auction to see what was going to happen to all of my belongings, I sat in the back and behind me sat all of his buddies. I sat there and listen to his buddies talk about how The Auctioneer was going to put things aside for them and not include them in the auction. They also spoke about private deals between themselves and the auctioneer. The auction started and I sat there and just watched and listened, almost everything in the room was auctioned off while the building was packed full of people, all the chairs were taken and plenty of people were standing all around the outer edges of the seating area. 99% of my items were not auctioned off until 90% of the people had left, and some of my items were not auctioned off at all. After most of the people were gone all that were left were the auctioneers buddies, and borrowing my husbands words who stated, "the auctioneer is running a garage sale now and giving your items away at a garage sale prices to his buddies". I sat shocked and horrified at what transacted during the farce of a auction. My oak chairs with the original finish, in mint condition normally sell for between $275 and $375. Mine were sold for $55 a piece to his buddy sitting behind me. My swords, daggers, and gun went for pennies on the dollar to another of his buddies, even I know antique military items don't go down in value. All my coins and silver certificates went to his employee, minus the ones he miss marked and added to another women's lot. Some of the items that he did not auction off he asked me to come get them, he charged me $50 cash for me to get my items. Which were dirty, smelly, and had to be washed and polished and bug bombed. The sofa, came back with a hole in the fabric and smelled so bad I had to air it out for two days along with cleaning the fabric and the hand carved wood. If you want to do business with him I suggest you only make purchases, otherwise you will loose your furnishings for pennies on the dollar the way I did. The whole point of writing this up is to make everyone aware of what happened to me, so it will never happen to another person again.
