Really enjoyed our lunches here. Food is ordered at the register & served in paper holders set into plastic baskets. The stone ground corn tortillas are good enough to eat by themselves but you'll love the fillings: we had chipotle-braised chicken tacos, marinated chicken tacos & fish (batter fried cod) tacos with spicy mayo. There are some cool specials such as grilled nopales. The "fixings" (salsa verde, pico de gallo, salsa roja) are DIY & are in cool, ceramic (clay?) bowls on a side counter, along with plasticware, ice water & napkins. There are great & flavorful drinks (alcoholic & non-alcoholic) served here, as well. Regulars float in & out, prices are moderate & you can eat @ a counter n the mid-century modern-outfitted, exposed beamed high ceilinged inside, or outside under umbrellas. I can see why people are annoyed by the portions - they are small for the price (especially the insanely priced watermelon agua fresca). That being said, the food tastes fresh and homemade, and the sauces up front are an absolute must. Skip the guac - it's pre-made and cold from the fridge. I was in the area looking for a bite to eat. There weren't too many options that sparked my interest, however, I'm always in the mood for tacos. When I found this place, I was excited. I placed my order ahead online and I first noticed that the prices were a little high. I'm all about authentic tacos and Mexican food and I've had a lot of it eating in lower Westchester and NYC. Even the best bites I had weren't this pricey. Nonetheless, I decided to give it a go. When I arrived, the place was really nice and definitely appealed to the more modern taste. There were people dining inside and outside, but it wasn't too busy. The lady inside was extremely friendly. I ordered the taco de cochinita pibil and the mulas de carne asada. The taco was very tasty but was also very greasy. The mulas were what I was interested in. They came at a higher price point so I expected more. It was basically a quesadilla between two small corn tortillas. The meat was very flavorful but again, super greasy. One side was sopping wet with grease. This is the Worse ripoff I ever went to. I ask for 3 Tocos (tiny) I ask what does it come with. Answer nothing...No Rice, No Refried beans, No Tortilla chips (standard) So I paid for a small side of Tortilla chips. I asked for Coke, they had none. I wound up with watermelon Juice. My son got one Quesadilla and tap water. Now I tell them Where I will be sitting so they can bring the merger food to me. They tell me you serve yourself, Napkins, Plate, condiments all shlepped by me. It cost me 50 something dollars for doing it all myself and they want at least an 18 percent tip at the register. Flavors and style are akin to what you'd get in Mexico, although of course the price reflects the fact that we're in one of the most expensive regions in New York (the Hudson Valley). Tried Upstate Taco for take out and left a little disappointed. I orders the vegetarian quesaburro and my hubs some tacos! Nothing was bad, but all tasted bland without much memorable flavor :( the pico, salsa extc was all packaged on the side which might have changed how the meals would be enjoyed for dine in. The inside was cozy with plenty of bar seating and casual tables. Service was friendly and while we waited to pick up we even saw they have Mexican hot chocolate on the menu (yummmm). So excited to have a new place!!! Im not 100% sure if the hours but will update once their webpage or menu shows. The best thing we have was the elote (grilled corn) and quesoburro, which is like a burrito which isn't quite folded up but same idea. It was stuffed full of meat, cheese, beans etc and so flavorful. So I am giving four stars...The tacos are delicious but very simple...maybe a little dry. I like my tacos with a bit more cooking grease ;) Make sure you remember to grab some of their house made sauces. I do wish they had a pickled veggie bar like they have in the taquerias out west! Maybe in the future? Perhaps they can offer taco add-ons for people, or sell rice and beans ala carte? All in all a very exciting and needed edition to the area! read more

Very friendly service! Fun ambience and great outdoor seating areas! Portions were ridiculously small for the price. I ordered three different types of tacos. The fillings were very very skimpy! Guacamole needed salt-it was extremely bland and terribly underseasoned. It was also a ridiculously small portion for the price. Their salsas were all empty. I asked about a refill and it never happened. My cocktail was good. Meal was very expensive, and we did not leave feeling full at all. Overall, The food lacked flavor and the portions were so small. Upstate Taco exceeded my expectations for food quality, drinks and atmosphere. I don't think I can recall the last time that has happened. It would stand alone as a Taqueria, a cocktail lounge, and an outstanding casual restaurant. The food is authentic AND creative. There's a lot of integrity here. Food is fresh and creative but too expensive for the quality, quantity and ambiance. Cafeteria-style setup asks for tip up front. Drinks were scanty (mostly ice). I was enjoying this Taco place until one of the co-owners mistook my order on two different occasions, both times being quick to scold me for not catching it on a register screen when the order was taken. It wasn't having to wait for a missing item to be prepared that concerned me but the attitude. I would expect a bit more courtesy and ownership for a misunderstanding. What a great edition to Upstate NY! As someone who use to live around this area, it's so nice to see the addition of food places that offer something unique and most importantly, delicious! The ambiance and service were great. As for food-our favorite was the Taco de Carne Asada, Taco de Tinga and fish taco. I ordered the taco de vegetales which was probably my least favorite because of texture and less flavor than I am use to. Next time, I will have to try their mushroom tacos though! We also ordered the guac and chips which was fantastic along with a Michelada and Margarita. They don't have a kids menu BUT my kids loved the fish taco (got it without the toppings) and they enjoyed the rice and beans as a side. Noteworthy-tacos are definitely bigger and more filling than what I've had. The ingredients are also super fresh. Overall, would go back again! read more

The owners put their hearts and souls into making a nice environment, plus the tacos and food are actually authentic and delicious. Their salsa is legit and guacamole is fresh, everything is made in house. If you want a $1 taco, then go to Taco Bell, this is not the place for you. I ordered one of each taco.... But I didn't love any of them at all. I really wanted to because I want new places in the Stone Ridge/Accord area to succeed. Especially one as cute as Upstate Taco made their place! So, I am hoping the owners please read my suggestions because I want to give them another try! Maybe if the tacos consisted of more than a soft corn tortilla with a lump of meat they would have been good. The steak taco had a generous amount of diced beef, but it was cooked well done and was very dry. Even the little side of pico de gallo couldn't save it. The chicken taco and shredded pork taco consisted of just that.... A reasonably generous lump of meat in a bland soft corn tortilla with a small plastic cup of your choice of sauce, again, my choice was the pico de gallo. The chicken and pork were "ok" but really need something more. (Shredded lettuce? Shredded cheese or crumbled Cojitio? Avocado? Sprinkle of Cilantro? Sour cream? Onions?) The Fish taco was the best of all because the cod fish was battered and fried to perfection! The batter was delicious. But on the downside, the soggy shredded red cabbage inside the taco was awful. I couldn't eat it. If they swapped out that soggy mess for fresh crunchy slivers of cabbage and served with a nice chipotle creama sauce the way they serve them in Baja Mexico, they would have gone from MEH to Magnificent! I'm not giving up on you yet Upstate Taco.. you guys spent so much time, energy and money to get the place open and looking as cute as it is, you just need to step it up!!! read more

I had high hopes for this place. I passed it every day to a job I was working on when I decided to stop in. The place was really clean and had a nice atmosphere with Mexican music playing. However the menu while being inventive was confusing. I am a vegetarian and although they don't use lard in their beans or chips , there are few vegetarian options and fewer vegan. I opted for a "Mila" which was sandwich of two corn tortillas, cheese and kale. While the tortillas were tasty, the filling was flavorless. Even their hottest hot sauce (which wasn't very hot at all) didn't help. It was also small but that was probably a good thing. At least it was passable.but the vegetable taco was just plain awful! It was miniscule and contained nothing but mushy overcooked zucchini. The menu said it also had tomatoes and jalapenos....not mine. This lackluster combo set me back $13 and change and left me wanting more (food that is) not because it was good but left me hungry. Not a place I need to stop at again, that's for sure! read more
