Remembered to grab a pic after I had already eaten one!! Oops!

For years we have passed this restaurant and have always wanted to stop, but never had a chance to. Today was our day! It was a beautiful afternoon so we parked in the back, walked into the bar area and asked if we could sit outside. Initially we were just going to have a drink but we decided to snack. Hubby ordered queso con chorizo, which he thoroughly enjoyed. I had the Huevos rancheros, so rare to find that on a lunch menu, so I was pleased...did not disappoint....eggs were over easy, and the sauce was great! It was definitely a knife and fork dish. The margaritas and sangrias were also very good. Next time we will have entrees, as we will be back! Bartender and waiter were both super friendly and excellent service!

Stopped here for dinner. Cute place, nothing fancy but service was good, margarita was good also. I ordered the vegetable fajitas and they were delicious and plentiful. I would recommend if you are in the area and would like some Mexican food. They serve nachos and salsa just after you are seated . I even tried the refried beans which I normally don't like but it was good

Yelped Mexican while in the area and came upon this place with no reviews and thought, why not. Called ahead and was told they had outdoor seating which we prefer during Covid. We arrived and were quickly seated outside. Our drink order and food order were taken quickly also. We munched on the chips and salsa while we waited. Their salsa is good, looks made not purchased which is awesome but it was lacking salt as was much of their food. I prefer lacking so I can add vs too much and I won't eat it. Son got nachos with added chicken and he loved them! I got veggie burrito that I enjoyed but they had a sweet red sauce on top that I didn't enjoy. Daughter got yummy chicken soup and hubby veggie fajitas which he liked a lot also. We also got some churros to go, so yummy! So overall there are some tweaks they should make but def try this place for yourself. Service is amazing!!

After a wrong turn that added a FULL HOUR to our travel time two very hungry girls pulled into this little Mexican spot. The margaritas were very good. However, the food was subpar at best. Think frozen Mexican rice and refried beans from a can. We did arrive an hour before they closed so maybe that had something to do with the quality of the food? Either way this is not a place I'd go back to. I didn't even take photos of the food simply because it looked... depressing.

Decent food but $16 for this?!?! What a rip off. This place used to be so much better. Very unfortunate. It's always empty. They need to step their game up. Too small of portions!

Mexican stuffed shrimp. Basically shrimp w a mozz stick wrapped in bacon.

Went here for the first time on NYE, and was pleased to be the only patrons. With covid we wanted to go somewhere outside of the main strip in New Paltz. Had a coconut margarita that was definitely too over priced (10$$$$) and did not have the proper tequila to mix ratio. BUT I saw the sign for $5 margaritas on Mondays and that intrigues me! Will update y'all if I return for this deal. The fajita was flavorful and sizzling!! The Mexican stuffed shrimp..... notttttt what I was expecting. Picture a cooked shrimp with a mozzarella stick and then wrap that in bacon. Actually, you don't have to picture it, just look at the attached photo. It was .... good, very heavy but absolutely not what I had in mind and I was a bit disappointed. But we had the chips and guacamole as well and that made up for it!

Chile relleno, enchiladas, rice, bans and s salad. Delicious!

I don't deviate too much when it comes to Mexican food- as long as I can get solid shrimp tacos, a seafood dish or a vegetarian one, I'm good. There's some serious energy here with colorful pops of sombreros and other Mexican decor. There's also a compact bar area+high chairs with the kitchen's cowboy doors beside it. Even though Jalapeños wasn't buzzing in the early afternoon I was here, I can really see this place popping at night. I mean...the rating and the majority of the writing on this place say it all. Unlike another Mexican spot in Highland I visited in which they served cut-up shrimp with their tails in my tacos, Los Jalapeños' shrimp tacos were NOTHING like that. These are unbelievably juicy, big, seasony, left whole AND there are 2 per taco! They came with a garlicky sauce which caught me by surprise because there was no menu indication and nor was I told about it when I ordered. It was good though- but I did try scraping most off. Regardless, Jalapeños is one Mexican restaurant that calls for consecutive returns with incredibly warm service.

Here's a polished review that stays honest while keeping it fair and balanced:…read more Agave in New Paltz offers a modern, fusion-style take on Mexican-inspired cuisine rather than authentic Mexican food. If you're expecting traditional Mexican flavors, just know this restaurant leans more toward upscale fusion than classic Mexican dishes. The food is good, and everything we've tried has been flavorful, although the portions are on the smaller side. The prices are reasonable for the quality and presentation, and the atmosphere has more of a cozy, date-night vibe than a casual Mexican restaurant. One suggestion I'd make is to expand the salsa selection. For a restaurant centered around Mexican-inspired cuisine, offering a few house-made, original salsas would really elevate the experience and make it feel more authentic. The restaurant itself is fairly small, so it's not the best choice for large groups. Parking can also be a challenge since there's no dedicated lot--it's street parking only, so be prepared to drive around until you find a spot. Overall, Agave is a nice place if you're looking for creative fusion dishes in a relaxed setting. Just go in expecting modern Mexican-inspired cuisine rather than traditional Mexican food, and you'll likely enjoy the experience.

Boy, are there a lot of post-hike options in New Paltz. I stopped by here this past Saturday…read moreafternoon after an 8.7-mile hike in nearby Minnewaska State Park. The weather had been pretty mediocre throughout the day but that clearly hadn't stopped the tourists from invading the downtown area - the place was teeming with people when I came in around 3pmish. I didn't do a ton of research on potential eating spots (a lot of SE Asian eateries, which seemed kind of random?) but picked Lola's because it was a block or two from where I parked, and I immediately imprinted on the Short Rib Grilled Cheese when I saw it on the online menu. Decision made. Since it was starting to get a little nicer out, I would have liked a spot outside in the front patio. But the girl at the check-in (I feel like there's a much better term for that) asked me to go inside, which for sure was a bias against the fact that I was a solo diner. I get it in theory, but it's not fun to get treated like a second-class citizen because you don't have a posse with you in a tourist trap. Regardless, the interior was fine; looked like it had been redone within the last year or so; what it lacked in personality it made up for in terms of overall spiffiness (and the area where the personality DID come through was in the bathroom area, with tongue-in-check "Whatever" gender signs on the doors and edgy art by the sinks. Tell me you're a college town without telling me you're a college town.). The set-up in here is more casual than I assumed; I was told that my table was #10 (the numbers were clearly marked on each table, reminiscent of Smashburger), and that once I decided what I wanted, I needed to go up to the counter to order. Someone WOULD serve the food, but a big chunk of the experience is DIY. I ordered the aforementioned Short Rib Grilled Cheese w/ Fries, along with a Diet Pepsi, and waited. I thought this was pretty inefficient, as there were plenty of employees nearby who easily could have just taken my order at the table instead of having me sit down, then stand up and walk across the restaurant to order, and then sit back down. The wait was a little longer than I would have guessed, just given the straightforward order and casual, almost fast-food style to the business model; it took close to 20 minutes to get my sandwich, I'd guess. Not egregious, and there WERE a number of other customers on the premises as well. The Grilled Cheese was just okay - I tend to grade on a curve after a hike, but I thought it was really drippy/greasy, and I wasn't crazy about the tomato compote it came with (which is a personal palate preference and something that WAS specifically referenced on the menu and I didn't request its exclusion; easy to remove, regardless). The short ribs aspect was unsurprisingly the best part. The fries were decent; a little pale but cooked through. There was a pickle hidden underneath them that was a little emotionally upsetting but it is what it is. This was fine and could have been worse, but the next time I'm in town I'm going to keep walking down the street and trying one of the many other options nearby. The target demo for this feels a little more 2am college student than hungry hiker in the afternoon.
