Although there is an option to sit down and dine, this place is perfect if you just want a quick bite to eat and don't feel like grabbing something out of the "cafeteria" ( which is currently closed for reconstruction). Especially on a Friday or Saturday night where all the restaurants are booked for reservations you can come here and sit at the bar and get a great meal. I suggest the tavern Burger and adding a fried egg to it. The grilled cheese and tomato soup combo is also excellent. The grilled cheese has a variety of cheese is on it and topped with caramelized onions. My boyfriend raves about their chicken wings and their pecan salad with fruit in it. I dislike that their french fries are not always fresh and look like they have been sitting there for hours. Almost every time we go to casino we eat here. I really enjoy the food and the service is good as well. I usually get salmon entree which is very good, this time I opted for the tavern salad which was huge! And tasted so good, one of my new favorites. My mother got the fried fish which she liked and my husband got a sandwiches (I believe BLT) but we liked it and ate the whole thing. The Upstate Tavern is my favorite place to eat at the turning stone!! I ALWAYS COME HERE AND ITS CONSISTENTLY GREAT. Three words: Buffalo chicken flatbread!!!! I get it every time. Buffalo chicken with bleu cheese smothered on top. It doesn't get much better. I've also had their salads, sandwiches and fish fry. All of the food is way above average and during the fall they have PUMPKIN BEER. SO GOOD The last few times I've been we had MATT as a waiter. He is so friendly and not to bad on the eyes either lol. This is my favorite place to grab a delirious meal and a cold draft beer in the hotel. I prefer to sit at the bar area with their high top tables overlooking the casino floor ( great place to people watch) I've never been disappointed with a meal here. There is also plenty of TV's here to always catch a game. There are so many great options here: Appetizers are perfect for sharing, The warm pretzels... with hot Mustard, horseradish cheddar Spread so good. Mac & Cheese Bites.. are a great twist on a childhood favorite. with truffle cheese dipping sauce. I really enjoy the Chuck's Tavern Burger.... They have this amazing beer-can chicken that is tender and moist... a must try! I love their Beer of the Month program... Inside the Turning Stone Casino, the Upstate Tavern boosts a good number of flat screens tuned to the various sports games. The atmosphere is energetic and noise level is typical. We sat at a high top with view of hotel entrance. Drinks: Got the $7 four flight of beers which with a good selection of the local stuff. Ithaca flower power was my favorite. Food: Downfall of this review, Utica Club Beer-Can Chicken. The drumstick portion was ok, but a bit dry. The breast was super dry and very salty. Other than salt, not much other flavors going on here so the chicken was a total miss. The only redeeming feature was the heavy garlicky veggies which I found super flavorful and devoured down to the last corn kernel. Service was ok during the busy dinner hour. Although I really miss Rodizio, the Brazilian churrascaria that formerly occupied the same space, Upstate Tavern is a very worthy upgrade! Enter on the second floor by the tower escalators and you'll be treated to a dark interior, lots of exposed woods, stained glass windows, plenty of flatscreens, and a bunch of denim-clad staffers sporting Converse All-Stars. They have a decent beer list, both on tap and "under the cap" - a far cry from the dismal offerings the Turning Stone had a few years ago as they were trying to get their liquor license fully in place. Also a welcome addition to the drink menu were unique hand-crafted cocktails, many of which were bourbon and scotch-based. On the food end, we split some fish tacos and kobe sliders...Both were superb (albeit a tad pricey at $9-$10 apiece for three), but be warned that the fish tacos have a little kick to them. We're only here once a year for an annual conference, so our free time is limited, but based on the other reviews here (and our tasty apps), we'll definitely have to come back again for dinner...just so long as they don't change it to something else again! read more

When I first visited the Upstate Tavern over a year ago, I wasn't sure what to expect. Restaurants at the Casino are always hit or miss for me. When I found out it would be locally inspired and sourced food, I got a little more excited. When I had my first sip of craft beer, and dipped my first warm pretzel into the melted cheese sauce...I knew I was a fan. Fast forward to a year or so later, and I've now visited about 4 or 5 times. While the menu hasn't changed, the food is still very good, the drinks selection is solid, and the atmosphere is great whether you are there for a date, a drink before a show, or watching a game. For starters, I highly recommend the aforementioned pretzels, the Binghamton spiedie rods, the flatbread, or the fish tacos. All are good and fit for two people. Pair this with a brew from Ommegang or Good Natured Brewing and you'll be starting things off right. I usually stick to ordering a few small plates for my meal, but I have tried both the tavern burger (very good), and the beef on weck(excellent). They have nightly specials that always sound pretty good. In my experience, the service has always been solid. The bar seems a bit slow when ordering drinks from your table, which is my only complaint. As with most things at the casnio, expect to pay a bit more for food here - probably to the tune of 20-25 bucks a person. read more

I'm talking classic dishes born in Upstate NY made with local ingredients, ie. riggies (Utica), kabobs in spiedie sauce (Binghamton)as well as local made beers (like Ithica Beer Co) and wine (from the Finger Lakes,etc). Dish #2 - Grilled Flatbread with buffalo chicken, blue cheese, mozzarella, and thin slices of celery. For $10 we got a great flatbread with just the right amount of crunch and toppings. The rest of menu looks pretty fantastic as well - so many yummy upstate dishes! The restaurant and bar vibe is pretty cool too - it's got this woodsy thing going on but with a modern twist. Throughout the space there's faux wood paneling with a grey wash, brick, a white and black mosaic tile floor, tin ceiling + leathery upholstered booths and dark wood tables. I like the atmosphere and the service was good. The tables were spaced out well. I had the Tavern Signature Burger and it was delicious. It was juicy and flavorful and the fries were well-seasoned. However, my husband had the Tavern Everything Chicken melt. It was your standard frozen chicken strips that were very hard and drenched in a hot sauce (which they call their Everything sauce). It was served on white toast. He left at least half of it on his plate. We would not recommend that sandwich to anyone. read more

I am not a big fan of writing poor reviews but I do think truthful ones are important. I can not recommend this place. I had the over $18 burger and was not impressed. My husband had the fish fry and the breading wasn't attached to the fish. I tried the Boozy shake Grasshopper and it's not a milkshake just milk with booze in it. The cream on top is thick, like you could chew it. The other biggest mistake I think they make is the music is way to loud in the restaurant it's like being in a club. Shrimp Caesar's salad was bland, not really a Caesar's salad, just romaine lettuce with some cheap pre-made dressing with under seasoned shrimp. I have to say the burger was very good. Server was pleasant, runner was rude, when we asked her to take away an appetizer plate she refused and said our server would take it, mind you, she left our table with an empty tray. Went there today 5/8/2. First time there and I had ordered the Philly cheese steak burger on a gluten free bun. I received a gluten free bun and cheese. Where's the beef? There was non, no mushrooms and the onions were so mushy it was formed to the cheese. And the bun was falling apart. My wife last cheese burger had more grease on it as soon as she picked it up it fell apart because the bun soaked it all up and a medium ware burger was over cooked. The person bringing the food literally threw the plate at us and say enjoy. Almost as much he knows it was going to be horrible. The waitress was such in a hurry I was asking for another drink as she was passing by. I would not recommend this place. The Turning stone casino shouldn't broadcast fine dining. Wow is this place BUSY on a cold Thursday night - lots of basketball fans, business people, and casino guests flocking here to enjoy some solid grub and Bevs. We arrived at 9:45 to a packed bar with only two open seats out of 30. Three Bartenders working a frenzied pace to care for the guests and Doug a solid job keeping u- Alexa was friendly, efficient and warmly accommodating. My friend began with a Saranac, it was cold and fresh. I began with an Autumn Mimosa, which was very tasty. I enjoyed the balance of the fireball, cider, and prosecco, but I feel the cocktail could have been heightened if the cinnamon sugar rum had a pinch of cayenne pepper to add some heat to the sweet. We ordered poutine to share as an appetizer. The runner made an innocent mistake and delivered it to the gentlemen next to us who began to both eat it and loudly say "we didn't order this", but to the credit of the leadership team they spotted the error immediately, acknowledged the error with poisoe and sent in another order for us on the fly. When it came out, the poutine was hot, delicious, and seasoned perfectly - just the right sized portion to share as an app. Round 2 beers were the beer of the month - Saranac Irish Lager, which, for $3 for a pint was an absolute steal, and surprisingly fun to drink. Entrees came out a little too early - we were still working on our poutine, but they looked and tasted great. Mac and cheese was crispy on top, gooey underneath, a nice blend of Cheeses, and a more than generous portion. Fish and chips were well cooked, very fresh, and very warm. Again to give credit, this place was mobbed during our visit, so we expected lags and errors but to be honest this was a great visit, and we would definitely return for another meal here. Cozy and well appointed surroundings could not save this review from a very disappointing experience. My colleagues and I decided last minute to dine here so having a wait for a table was not far from expectations. We were quoted 30-45 minutes and as 45 minutes came around, I poked my head in the restaurant and found half of the tables were empty. One of my colleagues said he also saw the same thing about 20 minutes earlier so I inquired with the host stand and we were seated about 5 minutes later. Service was friendly but exceptionally slow. The whole experience felt like it took forever, from ordering, to receiving courses, to drink refills, and so on. Nothing I ate stood out to me, but several of the people I ate with were quite happy with what they ordered (by the time it actually showed). Desserts looked quite appetizing, so we ordered a round. Unfortunately by the time they had arrived, many of us weren't as interested anymore. Boozy milkshakes were impressively presented, but many ended up disappointed that the chocolate rimmed parts of the glass were more decorative than edible. Ice cream arrived half melted but still frozen in other parts. This place seems to be a popular bar hang, but if you're looking to sit down for a meal, there are likely better places on property. read more

I actually got the same thing the next night because it was so good and like most things it's not as good when we took it but it seemed like portions were a bit smaller and they forgot my peppers on my cheesesteak. Came here with two friends, one of whom is horribly allergic to peppers, and specified her allergy to the waiter. We all got the signature burger, one medium well and the other two medium rare. She got her burger and they completely ignored the specified allergy (had to call the EMT's because she had a reaction after one bite) , and the medium rare was practically raw. Also the server gave the medium well to the wrong person. The medium well was actually over done and felt like shoe leather. The fries were barely better than McDonald's, but I guess that's what to expect from a place inside a casino. The only good thing about this place was the beer, and the access to EMT's. Went here after some mid day gambling. Have been here nearly a half dozen times and have always been pleased. This has become our "go-to" restaurant at The Stone; bypassing long-visited Seasons Harvest Buffet. Food came out from the kitchen pretty quickly. Ordered the poutine for an appetizer- not bad- but certainly nothing like what I've had in Ottawa or Montreal. A couple of us also had the haddock sandwich. Enjoyed that immensely. Fish was lightly battered and was a large portion- very filling. Also had a few beers- Saranac Legacy IPA- and a brown ale. Waitress was very attentive to our needs and the manager came over a few times to check on us. In all- good experience+ good food+ good beer + good decor/atmosphere = will continue to come back again and again next time we're at The Stone. read more

The spinach artichoke dip is delicious in fact my boyfriend just had that for dinner one night. I will start as always by saying I don't give five stars unless It is really special. This place is very nice. The layout, the decor, the staff, the drinks and the food all top notch. It is in the Turning Stone Casino so I would expect nothing less. We were seated immediately and given a booth. The server was right there to take drink orders. There are plenty of TV's to keep you entertained and if you were to sit at the bar it looks to be a great place to have drinks. We were here for lunch so no cocktails involved. The menus had plenty to offer as far as lunches go and due to my diet I again went with a salad. My counter parts one had a philly sandwich and the other a burger. The salad was very large and was delicious. Cobb salad with ranch dressing. The other two were both happy with their choices as well but I didn't taste them so can't say anything other than the food looked good. Waitress was very attentive and refilled drinks without asking us just saw we were getting low. Overall it was a good dining experience and will return. While traveling through this area, we were staying at the Fairfield across the highway from Turning Stone. We got a reco from the hotel to try this place for dinner so went across the road. I was quite glad that we parked right by the entrance so we didn't have to deal with the casino. It was a Sunday night and the restaurant wasn't crowded at all and they sat our family of five right away. Our waitress was extremely friendly and prompt. I thought the interior was pleasant and didn't have the same garish feel as the casino. The menu contained mostly (not sure, it might have been exclusively) regional products, from beer and wine to the food. I enjoyed a refreshing hefewiezen while my wife enjoyed a NY wine (it didn't match WA, OR or CA wines, but was above average). Our table shared the pretzel bites to start which were quite yummy. I was actually surprisingly impressed with the quality of the food. I had fairly low expectations and thoroughly enjoyed beef on a weck sandwich. The meat was thinly cut and piled high on the bun with a nice side au jus and pretty good fries. Our kids and my wife also enjoyed their meals -- shrimp riggies, a burger, caesar salad and mac and cheese. My husband and I went to Turning Stone for two nights and ate at several different restaurants on the premises. The food at Upstate was pretty good. We got the poutine and chicken wings and both were cooked perfectly with great flavor. My only complaint of the night is in regards to our service. He was a young "kid" with no personality. After about five minutes two spots at the bar opened up so we sat down there, asking if we could order food there. Shane helped us out, got us drinks quickly while we waited for our food and provided great service even while the place was jammed.
