I was at the Downtown Syracuse Marriott across the street from this restaurant for a meeting and we walked here for lunch. Our server, Karen was great at explaining the menu and providing nice service. She informed me that several of their burger have been rated the best in the state at various times over the past several years, which was impressive. She also said their chicken wings were pretty highly rated locally, so we started with an order of 6 of the wings with their Dr Pepper BBQ sauce. These wings came out over fried, looking pathetic, and they were dry. The Dr Pepper BBQ sauce had no positive effect or flavor, so I asked for some of their hot wings sauce, which she properly brought. The sauce was great, I wish we would have ordered that instead. It definitely helped the flavor part of the wings, but the texture (plus they were so small) really was a deal breaker for us and we each had one and that was it. Next up was their burger - I got their Beef on Weck Burger. I was worried about the saltiness of the bun, as I find Kimmelweck buns to be way too salty, but she assured me that they get these from a local bakery and they're perfect. So, I ordered it and was VERY HAPPY with it! The bun was insanely good... soft and so flavorful, while hardly salty at all, which was my preference. The roast beef on it was really good and tender. The burger meat was so very tasty and tender - WOW! The entire burger came together perfectly! I got it with a side of poutine fries and those fries were amazing! The Guiness gravy on them was very flavorful! Overall, while we didn't enjoy the wings, the rest of our food and the service definitely made this place a worthwhile visit! We came in for the Wednesday 50 cent wing special. Our waitress seated us right away and gave us menus and took our drink order. She was very friendly. It was somewhat quiet for a Wednesday before noon. We ordered the truffle fries and a dozen smoked gorgonzola, a dozen garlic parmesan and a dozen Dr Pepper BBQ. They came out quickly and piping hot. Our bartender, Eric was running around serving the customers and taking orders. He several times told us he would be with us shortly, which we appreciated. What a great experience! We called kind of last minute but Mike made it work and we got in for a table for 2. Karen waited on us and she was phenomenal, friendly, attentive and knew the menu and made a great recommendation. I got the Hot & Smokey Candied Bacon Burger and OMG! The flavors were amazing.... This place was recommended to me by a friend who told me that they have won best burger in New York State multiple times, so of course I had to try it. You walk into a pretty tiny, old school pub in downtown Syracuse but lo and behold, it was some of the best food I've ever eaten. We got the original poutine which had huge balls of cheese and really tasty gravy. We split the Number 7 and Hot/Smoky Burger: The number 7 is served on a buttered croissant and is a perfect hangover food... or to eat when you have time to lay down after. The hot/smoky had incredibly candied bacon on it and was much lighter, despite its size. My sister's Blue Moon was funky punky so the beertender had to pour her a different one. Took about half an hour to receive our two burgers. Both burgers, the Beef on Weck and the one with the bacon jam are forgettable. They were cooked how we ordered them though, medium rare. No wifi!!! They gave us a list of specials and beers etc, but of course, there were no prices so they just charge you whatever they want I guess. We visited this restaurant the same night Adam Sandler was in Syracuse for his show. Even though the place was packed, we were seated right away. Our drinks arrived within five minutes of sitting down, and our food followed just 15 minutes later. Everything tasted amazing! Ale 'n' Angus Pub does love up to the hype! It's a chill space, packed wall to wall with people enjoying their meals. I was impressed with how relatively quiet it still was even with a packed house and I attribute this to not having loud music playing for everyone to compete with. We were seated promptly and met our server shortly after. The server asked if we wanted wings out first and we did! They came out quickly and shortly after finishing the wings it was only a few minutes and our meals followed. The taste, I came for the burgers and loved my Hot and Smokey, but the Citrus Chipotle Wings won my heart. They were made to perfection and it was a sauce combination I've never tried and if I ever see it again I won't say no! I also added the onion rings to my meal and they were fantastic as well. My wife got a salad and it was fresh, large and satisfying, she was very happy with her meal as well. The only disappointment came when we appeared to be abandoned at our table. Our server became or simply just is the bartender and another server who was walking by was taking our finished dishes. We waited for the check for awhile because it's a busy place but unfortunately it wasn't until we flagged down the lovely server who was cleaning up after us that we got our bill. She took payment immediately from us as we could tell she knew what was going on and we also saw her being a super hero out there so a huge shout out to that lovely woman! I have been being taunted by the FB photos of their burgers for awhile! Matt is a great guy so I had some time to stop for lunch. Their hours are tricky to navigate especially when the Crunch have a game. We went early for lunch ordered the drunken Guinness poutine it was delicious tons of cheese curds and gravy. I ordered the 2023 best burger winner number 7 freaking amazing burger! I can see now why it won! Hubby ordered don't go bacon my heart. It was huge! Looked really good hubby gave it a thumbs up bacon on top of bacon! Will definitely come back again! Do yourself a favor and go eat a burger! Second time here and still......wow! Located on the opposite corner of the Upstate Medical Arena at The Oncenter War Memorial, this place is a true gem. We started off with a 1/2 dozen of the "Bufffalo Soldiers". Crispy, moist wings that were slathered in Crossfire ( little heat, little sweet) sauce. Sweet with only a touch of heat. Very good! If this place were open during better hours, I like to think I would have been here a dozen or more times. Their menu is full of unique, high quality offerings and everybody knows it. So many things I'd absolutely love to try, and some day I will. Every year we vow to try the candidates for the Best Burger contest from the NY Beef Council, and every year, time passes too fast, things come up, we don't have money to spend, or we just forget until it's all over. This year we finally got in front of it and tried the Crooked Birria burger for this year's contest, and threw in a Billy The Kid from the weekly special for good measure. I love everything Birria, and was super excited to see this burger coming from one of the best burger places around. I think maybe the excitement and high expectations might have tainted the experience, but it didn't seem to fit together as I had dreamt it. You can't really tell where the shreddy meat ends and the burger begins. I think it's seasoned with Indian spices, I would guess Garam Masala. Definitely a taste of cinnamon, and some other spices within that vicinity I don't have the literacy to pinpoint. The birria dipping sauce was extremely salty, and I liked the burger better without it. Loved the burger, loved the meat - crookedness and all - but the two things didn't really stack. Billy The Kid was actually the better of the two. Topped with an amazing pile of bacon, onion jam, goat cheese, and chipotle aioli sauce. Same top notch burger, same thick cut bacon we've seen on other burgers. Despite all the sauce, it was lacking in flavor until we added salt. The salt brought the flavor of the sauces to life and made this our favorite burger of the two. Before this, we hadn't been in since 2022... I think to try burgers that had won the previous year's contest. I wouldn't call them the best, but for sure on par with the other known greats in the city. If I could make it back, there are a slew of things on the menu I've been dying to try, but it's always been so long since I've been that I can't pull myself away from the burgers. I had to serve jury duty and this place was local so I decided to eat lunch here, and boy, did this place not disappoint! I have had this on my list of places to try and I have to say, literally everything about this place was excellent. The food could not have tasted better, the table and area clean, the staff were incredibly friendly and gave me enough room to enjoy my lunch but were around if I needed them. Staying in Syracuse for a concert at The Dome over the weekend, I was told I had to order a burger from Ale 'n' Angus Pub. In short, that person was totally right! A family member and I walked in a little after 5pm on a Friday and we were seated at a table immediately. The inside has a bar and quite a few tables, while having a cozy pub-like vibe. The gentleman working the host booth who took us to our table was incredibly friendly and seemed excited to be working there! Our waitress, Karen, was incredibly fun and friendly, she was so personable. I wish all of my waiters/waitresses were fun and friendly like her, it really does elevate the dining experience, at least for me. She took our drink orders and gave us time to look at the menu and narrow down what we wanted. The time between ordering our food and eating as pretty standard, not too long at all. For dinner, I ordered the "Number 7" burger, cooked medium. This burger was voted best burger in NYS in 2023 and I definitely understood why! It is a half-pound angus burger topped with pecan-smoked shoulder bacon, Ale N Angus burger sauce, American cheese, and pepper jack cheese and served on an inverted buttery croissant roll. For a slight upcharge, I ordered my burger with a side of sweet potato fries which comes with raspberry-honey dipping sauce. This was delicious! The burger was cooked medium, but a little redder in the center, which was fine with me, it only made the burger hot and juicier. The buttery croissant roll made keeping the contents of the burger contained a little difficult, but I do not mind a messy burger. The combo of American and pepper jack cheese was excellent and they were very generous with the amount on the burger. Their homemade sauce was tasty, reminded me of the golden arches sauce a little bit. The pecan-smoked shoulder bacon was thick cut and added a little sweetness, soo tasty! The sweet potato fries were cooked perfectly and the dipping sauce was great. The portion sizes here are very generous, I walked away plenty full and happy! The price for my meal I thought was very much in-line and appropriate. My family and I had a great experience at Ale 'n' Angus Pub! The staff and food are phenomenal, well worth the visit! I will say their hours seem to be mainly focused during the work week so make sure to check their social media or website for the hours for the current week. Burgers come with chips but you can upgrade to premium sides like sweet potato fries and onion rings. I got the onion rings which were super crisp and satisfying. The onion bun was good, although most the onion flakes fell off while eating it. My husband found it to be a little salty for his taste but as someone who has a high tolerance for salty foods I found it to be perfect. This place looks like a pub that happens to serve food but don't be deceived - they serve really good food! We tried a Bixby's Roast Beef Cheese Steak - it's a slow cooked Roast of Beef, thinly sliced, topped with sautéed onions and American cheese. Served on grilled French bread. It was really very good! The sweet potato fries were very good as well and the dipping sauce is really hard to describe - but it was also very good. We also tried the Beef on a Weck Burger, which is an 8 oz. Angus burger topped with thinly sliced roast beef, cheddar cheese, homemade creamy horseradish sauce, lettuce, & tomato, served on a Kimmelweck roll. Now, not being from NY, I had no idea what a Kimmelweck roll was, so I had to look it up to find that it's a roll topped with salt and caraway seeds. The burger was cooked to a perfect medium and though a very 'fat' burger, it was very juicy. The horseradish sauce was perfect - very flavorful but not overpowering. This burger was really good. The staff at this small place were very friendly and took care of folks quickly. We ordered ours to go and it came out just after I arrived - so it was exactly the time I was told. It's conveniently located on Harrison Street only a brief walk from both the War Memorial and the Civic Center, which supply many of its customers. I've lived in Syracuse most of my life and feel like Ale 'n' Angus has been a downtown staple forever, but I'd never been there. Last weekend, I headed down with a group for dinner on a Saturday. It was about 6:30, but downtown was surprisingly dead, and the restaurant only had a couple of other seats sat, and our party of 5 was able to be seated immediately. The decor inside is very sports bar-like. I don't know why, but for some reason I always pictured it being a little bit more of an upscale pub type inside, but it is very casual, with TV's to watch and employees wearing simple t-shirts. Our server was friendly, personable and attentive. For a restaurant called Ale & Angus, there is a surprising variety on the menu including chicken, haddock, salmon, and pasta entrees. The menu also offered various sandwiches, salads, and wraps. While there was plenty of variety, it seemed a burger was in order for a place called Ale 'n' Angus. In 2012, one of the restaurant's burgers, called the Power Play won the title of "Best Burger in New York State" and has been nominated for that honor again several times. The Power Play, which consists of an Angus patty topped with prime rib and American cheese, earned the restaurant a great deal of recognition. Since the Power Play had already been established as a winning burger, it seemed like the obvious choice. Our food was made quickly and my burger was great. Perfectly cooked. I take my beef medium well (I know, sacrilege, blah blah), but unlike other places, they know how to cook beef here. It was moist and juicy, but not at all greasy. There was a perfect layer of prime rib topping it and the burger was seasoned well, which most places just can't grasp how to do. The burger does not come with any condiments, but the burger/prime rib/cheese combo was so delicious, it honestly didn't need it. Very rarely have I had a burger so good, condiments weren't necessary, but Ale 'n' Angus made it happen. I also got a fruit cup with my burger, because for some reason it was sounding good, and it was. I dunno if it's fresh fruit, but it all tasted amazingly sweet and juicy. Two of my party got other things besides burgers, which also looked amazing. Portions were huge and prices were fair and comparable to other similar restaurants. Overall, it's legit one of the best burgers I've ever had, and if I'm in the mood for one again, this is the place to go, but I'd love to try out some of their other dishes in the future as well. read more
