Still love Uptown Cheapskate! Went back for their Semi-Annual Sale, where clearance was 60% off and the entire store was 10%. I left with 5 things for $35 and tried on 14. On 7/16/24 I brought items in to be sorted at Uptown Cheapskate in Frisco-owned by Lindy-and had selections that were NOT even looked at after Lindy saw it was me, I know Lindy personally from the past, she's not a good person) apparently runs this business how she wants and doesn't abide by policy and expectations of the customer. The business is expected to sort through all items, inspect and offer money for any items accepted, if there are none that is fine but the items were completely untouched and not inspected as they are to do. Unacceptable, I feel targeted and feel these practices of favoritism or personal feelings presents problems for customers coming in and services advertised are not done based on each individual bringing in their designer items, not the items themselves. All in all unethical business practices and I'll never be back. read more

Went yesterday around 3pm. Came to bring in a few clothes. The employees near the selling counter did not acknowledge us at all and instead were talking gossip about other customers in front of me in my girlfriend. (Not a good look) the girl who seemed to be in charge of trade ins was completely engrossed in gossiping until I interrupted her gossiping letting her know that we were ready to trade stuff in. (This seemed to annoy her. We had been completely ignored until then despite being 2 feet away from them) The main reason for this review was the curly headed woman who seemed to be in charge of trade ins that day. I went during their semi annual sale and got some really good pieces!! The only thing that ruined my visit was some lady hysterically screaming and making a fool out of herself because she put a full price item in her $25 bag thinking she was gonna get away with it. If she wanted the item she had to pay full price for it, not $1.26 , obviously this karen was stingy and didn't want to spend more than the $25 sale. She left the store angry and then had to walk her butt back to the store because she forgot her wallet. Second hand embarrassment to say the least. This place is the worst. Today I came to drop off clothes and was told that that I would have to come back in 30 min. They had been "too busy" earlier and needed a break from buying. The store was empty when I walked in. Last week I tried to bring my clothes and was told that they weren't buying that day. The place is run by teenagers which is part of the problem. My son bought me a new Uptown Cheapskate brand cross body/fanny pack from here (Allen location) for Christmas and I already had one like it. It was a brand new item that they sell new and it had the tags on it. Their policy is final sale on their new items with their name brand on them, but you can exchange their used clothes they said! I shop a LOT of these resale places around the metroplex for theater items mostly. This one has a good selection and is well organized but the prices are much higher comparatively, and not always for good reason. There are often stains, rips, and it's just generally overpriced. But the real reason I tend to avoid this store is the consistently rude staff. They are seriously so rude! Enough so to make a person use yelp for once. Sheesh! read more

This is not the place to go to buy clothing. Their prices are more than heading to one of the many clothing stores in that mall and they are worn and not even washed!!! On top of that, if you do buy something from there and intend to take it back when you actually find out the reason the person sold them to this store, they will Not take it back if the plastic tag is cut off, so make sure you put it back on. They won't even let you exchange it for something else!!! That's how confident they are that their merchandise is crap. At least if you buy it from a store, it is not dirty ( if it is, it is marked down) and they will take it back for a full refund. If you want major brands at discount prices go to "Half of Half Name Brand clothing store" in Richardson TX., the prices are 1/2 of 1/2 of the original price or 75% off the original price. There are few times in life when I can simply walk into a store, quickly locate the section I'm looking for, peruse the rack and spy exactly what I like, purchase it and be back in my burb within 15 mins. Add to that being warming greeted upon entering said store; and smoothly checking out by a smiling clerk who was genuinely glad I was there. Most of the time when I come in here it's not that bad of an experience. Usually my clothes are ready within a half hour so I just wait in store. What they don't tell you is that whenever you don't wait in store they push you to the back of the line! I waited a whole hour for them to go through my clothes and when I went in to ask them why they haven't finished it yet they hadn't even looked at them! The staff was super grumpy the whole time I was there and they didn't even look through my clothes they just glanced at the colors threw them back in the bag and told me they could not take anything. I called in before hand to ask about selling some items. Genevive picked up the phone and educated me on the stores selling policy, and even told me the best time of the day to come in, so I wont have to wait a long time. When I came in the store, I was impressed on how they staged the mannequin's. The store has grown a lot. Anyways, I was able to sell my clothes, and receive a higher return than most places I have tried to sell at (plato's closet, clothes mentor). I usually go to the Richardson location and came to the Allen location instead since I was in the area. The buyer was Ryan and it was a horrible experience. He didn't take any of the items out of the baskets and just rummaged through them hastily and was very rude. I would NOT recommend going to the Allen location. There is a location that is closer to me, but it's honestly not that great, but the extra 30 minute drive is totally worth it to come here. The staff is honestly great and they're so fun and energetic. They're so helpful if I'm looking for something particular and just anything in general. I would just like to start off by saying that the store is in fact very clean and very well organized. I think that the employees need a little bit of work. I walked into the store a couple days ago and there were six teenagers working at the back of the cash register. Not one of them said hi to me, mainly all glared at me and seem to have been talking to each other. The store manager, had a very very rude welcoming to me by throwing my receipt on the floor. One of my clothes for done Kaitlyn, which by the way over the phone seems like a bitch. Told me that my clothes were ready. I come in yet again same people worse faces. I think the only thing that is that the store needs to work on is customer service. I think it should not be allowed to talk to a customer the way that this woman talk to me over the phone. I do not recommend this place. Only if you're desperate. For one the staff never greets me when I walk in. They either don't say nothing or they're too busy to notice because they're on their phones. However, the store is always clean and looks neat. Allen uptown cheapskate does have good things to sell, but they are overly dramatic with prices. One day I came up to Allen Uptown to buy a plain white crop top. Guess how much the price was..? $16. Just for a white cropped top. Right after that, I went to Ross and spent $5 dollars on the same top. They just aren't reasonable. Another thing is I feel like I see the same thing ALL the time in the store. Maybe people aren't buying stuff because their prices? For women they don't run big on shoes , and they always have the same selection of shoes The purse section is not good . They barely have any and the price on the cheap purses is ridiculous . I'm telling you they always have the same stuff!!! Something that disappoints me is that they don't have a plus size section. I'm not a plus size person but I just feel like it would be cool if they had that. Plano Plato's Closet has a plus size section tho. I live in Allen but this store is NOT my first option. It's actually not even the option anymore. I guarantee you won't be leaving with anything . If you want better prices and wanna see new options, I recommend going to Plato's closet in Plano or even McKinney's Plato's closet because they are good just as well. read more

The past years this has been a great resale place: great prices for buying and selling. However I went in today and the entire athletic section was filled with brand new lululemon. Which sounds great - except the original tags were still on and uptown was only selling them for about $10 less than the original price. Not to mention - you could so clearly see that stickers had been ripped off the original lulu tag - indicating that the uptown owners went to a lulu outlet, purchased items in bulk for less than the original price, and are now reselling them for more than the bought them for while leaving the price tag on to convince you it's a steal. For a brand who's identity is sustainable buying, and for a store with a sign out front door announcing that second hand buying and selling is good for the environment, this doesn't seem eco-friendly to me, it seems more like a scam. Not to mention they took 16 of my items for $60 - that's $3.75 per piece. read more

I want to start off by saying I've been a loyal customer before they were considered "popular." But the last two times I've brought in many items including polo Ralph, nike, woven belts, popular gore Tex jackets, etc. and I've gotten a combined total of $50 and two lovely tax return slips (woohoo). I brought in at least a total amount of $500 worth of items and to get that much back between this location and the wylie location is pretty sad. For example, there's a tie dye red white and blue polo Ralph polo worth $85 and they didn't even take it. If you want money for your clothes, bring it to another place such as Plato's closet. I brought in a laundry basket full of items and all the employee did was barely go through the basket and say "sorry unfortunately we can't take any of your items, want a tax slip?" Furthermore, im sure I'll see some of the items on the rack that I just gave for "donation." For the record, I didn't have a single item that wasn't name brand. I only brought nike, adidas, footjoy, polo Ralph, and Levi's. Needless to say, I'm pretty upset. read more

Went in a few months ago to clear out some clothes- did not get very much for an entire laundry basket but their pricing is disclosed on their website- compared to places like buffalo exchange they give you way less. More upset about the person behind the counter assuming immediately that I was related to the two other non-white people in the store and getting told that I couldn't bring in my clothes because they had a policy against a family bringing more than two baskets in at a time- when I had no idea who these people were! Highly disappointed with this store. Came in to sell two huge boxes of name brand, good quality clothes and accessories. Most of the items with tags or brand new, things bought within the last few months. They passed up on most of my items. Offered me $21 for a few of my older items then sent me out the door. Meanwhile, they are purchasing other items that aren't nearly as in good if shape as mine. The buyers definitely should be trained to buy equally. Only reason I gave them 2 stars is because of the customer service is half way decent. For the life of me, I don't understand how people will spend $15 for a used Old Navy tshirt or $20 for a Nautical shirt that you can find at Burlington for a couple dollars more. I also saw some used Stacey Adams men's dress shoes for $45...again, a pair that you could find at DSW for a few dollars brand new. I think if anything, I'm upset with the time spent here and it wasn't prefaced. I came to sell some clothes. I knew there would be a wait so I was prepared to go run errands. However, the lady says "Would you like to wait in store? It'll be super quick for us to check." Cool, if it's super quick I'll wait. Little did I know this was really just because they were having a sale and they wanted me to shop around while I wait. 20 minutes in my bags still on the counter. Another lady asks if I'm ok and I ask if i can go to target real quick to grab something. She says if I do I'll have to be marked as a drop off, but not to worry my clothes will be done soon. Lame but OK I'll wait more. I wait another 30 minutes and they call my name (or so I thought). Hands me $75, perfect I'm happy! Then i look for my left over bag and she notices me and the other person have the same name. She hasn't even looked at my bag yet. I have to give her back the money and wait even longer. The slap in the face is the actual time it took for her to look through my bag was less than 5 minutes, and she gave me only 15 bucks. I understand there's a need and a want for particular clothes - I would have been happy with the money if you told me it would be a while and to just drop it off. Heck even if it was a 20 minute wait. But to lie and tell me it will be quick, get my hopes up with that much money, only for this experience ? I'm seething to say the least. I've been here before and they always set expectations for waiting. I could have done so much other things with an hour of my time. But no, I wasted my time here. My advice: do not tell the customer it will be quick if it will not just so they can start shopping. You need to understand time is money. read more

I like to buy shoes here but it is annoying to find that they put permanent marker on the bottoms but also have a price tag on the shoe as well. Especially when I'm buying Jordan's it does not come off no matter how hard you try. Please don't write on Jordan's or any other shoe. If Plato's Closet had a classier, cleaner big sister, that sister would be Uptown Cheapskate. I walked in with a few items that Plato's had turned down hoping to get a few more dollars. Immediately, I was struck by the open space, clean displays, and friendly workers. I was greeted and signed in to sell my clothes. While I waited, I perused the racks. It seems like the selection is way nicer than Plato's or other local "thrift" or consignment shops; instead of an emphasis on "trendy," it seems like the buyers at UC go for "classic" and "hipster." I tried on a bunch of things, including a brand-new, with-tags dress that was originally $140 and was marked down to $12. It looked hideous on me, but I appreciate its presence anyway. I ended up with an Express sweater I almost bought last fall, a pleated skirt from Forever 21, and a brand new velvet skater skirt for $32. The register had a sign saying if you join the text club, you get $3 off, so I did that too. After using the credit from selling my clothes (which was double what Plato's Closet gave me for fewer items), I gave up a mere Andrew Jackson and left happy. read more

I figured today on my off day from work I would try to go to a new place to sell my clothing since I haven't been to any new regales stores yet! First thing I noticed when I walked in was the layout. It's very clean and organized and they have a very uptown aesthetic which goes well with its name. Walking in I did not get greeted nor did I get someone to ask if I needed help with my heavy bags. It was also not busy, having four employees in a decently large area I'm sure they could look up from the counter and see customers/greet customers who walk in. The sales associates aren't as knowledgable as I thought. I asked simple questions like "what are you currently accepting" "what type of accessories do you accept" the answers I got back were very short "oh you can just bring them in and we will tell you".... I'm already here and I didn't bring my accessories so I wanted to know a head of time so I wouldn't have them sorting through items that are of older styles. -.- also most store don't accept earrings so you never know! I've worked at a similar resale store and I never would have given that answer to a customer. They don't provide a wait time unless you ask and they do not provide an itemized receipt for the items they purchased for what price. The only thing they need to up is their customer service and attentiveness. Other than that the store itself has nice clothing a bit over priced at times but overall easy going. Austin is a great manager. I got the pleasure of meeting and he is very accommodating and does have exceptional customer service from what I saw in the store while waiting on my items but the employees need to up their customer service in order to retain their satisfied customers. read more
