Wonderful store, great service personnel, very attentive and helpful. Huge selection of clothes that are just adorable!!

I've been coming to Austin for SXSW for years now and I have to say, I don't know of any town like it for resale. There are more thrift and resale and vintage stores here than I've seen anywhere I've been and that's saying a lot. I love resale and vintage and a friend mentioned this to me so I thought I'd check it out. When I look at some of the comments here, it's pretty clear to me that some people are way over the top. It's easy to be offended when someone doesn't want to buy your stuff. I've been in a lot of resale stores and other than some that are exclusively very high end, I've never been in a nicer one. The place is organized, nice looking and even smells nice. The staff is very friendly and helpful and they have a great selection of merchandise. I've been to a number of other places in Austin and several have something I like but they all have significant downsides. This one is the only one I didn't have any major complaints. A friend who went with me said the men's section had a lot of nice things but looked like a train wreck. That would have been my only issue and perhaps it just gets neglected as I didn't see any guys working here. At times they seemed a little overwhelmed with the business going on but they were trying and being busy is a good thing. It looks as if they have a lot of promos and special events going on regularly so I'm sorry I won't be here for all of it. Overall, found some really cute things at prices that ranged from fair to a steal. They were also having a holiday even with free snacks and wine. Score! i'll definitely be back next time I'm in town. read more

This place has a large mixture of clothing choices. I would say it's a mix of a high end thrift store and buffalo exchange. Some items can be a bit on the pricier side, especially considering its used, but I feel like it's right on with Buffalo Exchange. You can easily find some nice clothes in here. Decent prices and decent selection of men's clothing. Like most consignment, the men's selection was limited and tended towards lots of larges and XL. Not quite as hip it extensive of a selection as Buffalo Exchange but worth a trip. read more

I went in today solely to see how much money I could get for my clothes, but I also did some browsing as well, so I'll count this as a double-experience on both ends. First thing I notice: it doesn't smell bad. At all. In fact, it has this sort of pleasant, floral-scented smell that I could tell was a legitimate focus of the staff. The smell that hits you when you walk into Buffalo Exchange is really strong, and it kind of chokes you. I know it can't be helped since you're mixing the smell of every person's closet in one small space, but the fact that this establishment made a conscious effort to unify all smells was pretty great. Selling: They were all really helpful in getting me started on selling. I wrote down what my bags looked like and they told me about 30 minutes (this was at around 18:15 or so), which seemed reasonable. They said they'd call me when they were done so I started perusing the store. I wandered off to the comic store in the same complex after about 20 minutes, but they were done shortly after. I received $15 for 5 pieces of clothing, most of which I don't remember since I had brought probably over 15. I was in and out pretty quick. The only thing I remember them taking was a long Ralph Lauren coat that my ex-boyfriend had purchased for me for around $200 at Macy's. It was a little too big and I never really liked the style, but I felt that it should've been worth more than that. Since I never wore it, I really wasn't in a position to negotiate the price higher (not that I could have anyways). Shopping: Store was laid out really well. Shoes were all organized by size, and every item of clothing was arranged not only by size, but color as well. Finding black dresses in size M was pretty easy. Pricing wise is incredibly reasonable and I rarely saw items over $25 in all pretty good condition. The vintage items in the back definitely gave me hardcore flashbacks and nostalgia, but not enough for me to make a purchase. All in all, I'd not only sell my clothes there again, but I'd shop again to find clothes. PROs: - an actual parking lot on South Lamar (since it's in a complex) and not a strip - really great prices for clothes to purchase - super friendly staff - non-musty closet smells - quick quotes for selling and the process is very operationalized - if you shop at this store regularly, there's a good incentive program (stamps) and you get more bang for your buck if you take store credit CONs: - can't sell within the last 2 hours of closing (as an FYI really) - don't know what clothes they took (no itemized list) or how much per item. I wish they provided this so I knew roughly how much the items were so I could find clothes in my closet that I felt they would be more likely to purchase. This way, I could cater my next selling experience and be more efficient instead of just throwing anything I didn't want into a bag. - some of the shoes I noticed (casual shoes) seemed really worn. I saw a nearly-new pair of Vans right next to a pair of Converses that looked old enough that it was already molded to the shape of the previous owner's foot (Converses and Vans do this). If it were a worn pair of Prada or Ferragamo, I'd typically look the other way due to the high fashion and vintage style, but a pair of worn Converses didn't seem to fit quite in here. Now I'm wondering if the pair of Converses I wore around Europe for 8 weeks could be sold here since they're in better shape. read more

I've seen this place a bunch of times but never actually went in. It wasn't until I read reviews on yelp that I did. The staff was very nice. The place didn't smell like a normal thrift store. They have a wide variety of items. From high end designers like Burberry, Michael Kors, and Marc Jacobs to long ball gowns, sexy cocktail dresses, and vintage items. Monday-Wednesday are busy buy days so I would call in advance to see if they are buying items still. The first time you sell with them they give you a $5 credit to the store. I usually take the cash option at stores like this, but I looked around and like I said they have a big selection. Definitely go in and check it out read more

I wasn't really sure about what to expect since I haven't sold to US in years but I was pleasantly surprised! I can't speak from a true thrifters perspective since I was there to sell, but I did notice a decent brand range and it's pretty clean inside. Staff was really nice and cool, as someone who has worked in retail I understand how rude people can be so I think that's something to keep in mind when you're a customer (people behind the register are people!). My selling process took about 40 minutes which is fine, I didn't have anywhere to be. Consignment stores are going to offer less and it's a pretty hard pill to swallow but it's honestly better than continuously looking at stuff I don't wear in my closet or haggling with people on poshmark. Overall really sweet staff, pleasant experience and I will take my items back for sure ! read more

Employees are hit or miss. I brought one bag of folded clothes to sell/trade. My bag was rudely taken by some guy who acted like it was burdening him that people were bringing clothes in. He just stuffed and crumpled the remaining clothes in my bag and said nothing. I just can't stand behavior like that. The woman who checked me out was very nice. In terms of shopping, it's like any other junky resale clothing store. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I'd actually prefer to go to Buffalo Exchange. read more

I stand by my first review. And for any business to reply to an unfavorable review by lecturing your customers and coming dangerously close to calling them liars are no ways of maintaining or saving your reputation. It takes a long time to build a good reputation, but it only takes a couple of times of showing your customers bad attitude and total lack of respect to their opinion on you to ruin it. You better remember that. Instead of, once again, giving a really bad attitude in response to a one star review that you totally earned, start working on improving your customer service. And to the representative who left a reply to my initial review (Kevin, I think?): with your tantrums, as reflected in your reply, you are a very ill fit to be working in retail. read more

I had a bad experience at the store Monday evening 4-3-07. I went in to sell some clothes an hour and a half before it closed. There were four people standing behind the counter. They looked at me and continue to talk. I got one of the staff's attention. He told me in a pretentious and condescending way he would not take the clothes and hour before the store closed. He had a look of disgust on his face and turned around to talk to his friends. By the way I'm 49 years old. I spoke to several of my coworkers at my place of employment. They told me they had the same interactions at the store. The bad part is last year I have a friend who's son spent a lot of time at the store buying outfits for school. He had nothing but good things to say for them. They had very personalized service at the time and helped him pick out outfits. read more

I have NEVER been a fan of buying used clothes, well that is until my wife dragged me into Uptown Cheapscapes recently and I have to say WOW. You would have never known you were in a resell shop as over half the items there are brand new and the resell items are in "like new" condition. It just feels as though you are in a new retail sales store and the staff is professional, knowledgeable and friendly (which is hard to find all three in a clothing store in Austin these days). They even have comfortable sitting areas when your spouse's idea of a quick stop differs from yours. They only thing I would recommend is a time limit for couples to be in the store......well I guess that's more for me than someone else. I am not a social media person and hardly ever do reviews and only when someone impresses me which they did. Keep up the great job Uptown and we look forward to you opening a store in North Austin. read more

Horrible, horrible experience selling clothes back to this store. They said it would take an hour, and three hours later they offered me $14. The older lady at the front desk decides what clothes she will buy, which is hardly anything. She decides based on her "expertise," instead of the young workers. I will NEVER try and sell my clothes back to this place again. This was one of the worst experiences I have ever had in a store. On a more positive side, if you are not selling your clothes back, they do have some cute outfits for low cost. read more

Stopped in with my daughter to browse. A very nice selection of clothes in a wide range of sizes, as well as a wide variety of brands. Most items were seemingly priced fair. I was disappointed when my daughter found two lululemon headbands which she was interested in. However the price was $14.99, and this is completely outrageous as this style of headband sells for $12-14 on the lululemon website. Otherwise a nice shopping experience. read more

This place is what a real thrift store is supposed to be. Good items for good prices. Other thrift stores I've been to have bad quality selection, others don't even price the items down; I'd rather buy something brand new if it's going to be for 'brand new' prices. I'm giving this store 5/5 because it's the only real thrift store I've encountered in Austin so far. I literally didn't buy clothes for over a year or so because I didn't want to pay full retail price, and didn't want to support overpriced thrift stores. I would drive up to Round Rock Premiem Outlet to get better deals than some of the thrift stores around here. After discovering Uptown Cheapskate, I visited there weekly, and have spent hundreds of dollars, no doubt, rounding out both my work and casual wardrobe. When people talk about buying clothes, I tell them to go here. Thanks guys, you're setting a real example here. read more

When the store first opened back in March, I enjoyed shopping here with my daughter as it was her new favorite store and the staff was so eager and friendly to help her find clothes in her size that made her feel great and that I approved of as well. Over the past few months, I started to notice a lot of turnover in the staff as the original store manager (who was my daughters favorite helper) quit. It's made a big difference in the shopping experience I receive at the store, and the buyers have all changed which is obvious in the merchandise on the floor. It's sad to see what could be a great store be run by lackluster employees who don't give the same kind of personalized attention to us and don't seem to buy in as good of product. We are now looking for a new store to call our favorite :( read more

Uptown has been a favorite of mine for both shopping and selling since they opened their doors in Austin in 2014. I consider myself a "natural born scavenger" with an eye for a deal and frequent many thrift stores as well as all of the resale shops here in ATX. BY FAR Uptown has the friendliest staff and best deals. Why you ask? For starters the prices CANNOT BE BEAT: wear-it-out-of-the-store-quality at thrift store prices. The owners at uptown are very involved and can be seen in the store regularly. They're quick to offer help, explain how things work or share fun story. As a seller all of the resale shops take different items. They each know what sells best in their store and one must know before selling that if their items are refused it's for business reasons and it's not personal. If I had to choose something to improve on it would be that they expand the amount of womens plus size clothing that they carry. A loyal cheapskate! read more

I have to agree with Elizabeth S... I think we may have had the same person "helping" us. I went in to sell some things and out of the bag she only wanted one item. Even those waiting to sell were surprised and commented I had some really nice things. I've shopped there several times before and everything I had I've seen the same type things on their floor. I said that to her and she replied "probably in the clearance bins" which in and of itself was rude. Okay so whatever... What really got me was when she started wadding up my clothes and stuffing them back in the bag! I mean who the the hell acts like that?! I told her that I didn't care for her treatment of my things and took them out and re-folded them right then and there. She acted like she didn't hear me. Not sure of her position there, owner or whatever, but if she wants the shop to be successful she might want to consider a major personality overhaul! read more

I love this store! I love thrift shopping for unique finds. This store has a great selection already so makes it easy to shop. I got a couple of tank tops for 3 bucks, jean shorts for 8, an adorable black dress, love thrift! You know what the clothes are going to look like after you wash them. Tons of accessories. read more
