I am writing to express my disappointment with my recent experience at Uptown Cheapskate [South Lamar]. I brought in a selection of items for consignment and made it clear that I wished to retrieve any pieces they did not select, intending to resell them elsewhere. I was assured I would receive a call with an estimate, a call that was supposed to include a voicemail if missed, which never arrived. After waiting without any contact, I called the store several days later, only to learn that my unselected items had been donated without my consent. The explanation I received was vague, mentioning a supposed call from a "phone number containing some 4s & 6s"--a detail that struck me as highly unprofessional and unhelpful, especially as I received no voicemail to this effect. This situation has left me feeling disregarded as a customer. The failure to communicate clearly and to respect my instructions regarding my items is unacceptable. I had expected a higher level of service and professionalism from Uptown Cheapskate. This experience has not only resulted in the loss of my property but has also significantly diminished my trust in your business practices. I can't say enough wonderful things about this place. As someone who regularly sells and buys there, I've gotten to know the staff, and they are the best. Super friendly, super fair when it comes to prices and super patient when I have questions or need help finding something in the store. Their inventory is always changing, and I can rely on them to have fabulous last minute Saturday night outfits, stellar hand bags (designer labels like see by Chloe, moschino, vintage dooney and Bourke, Rebecca minkoff, etc) at insanely reasonable prices, and to die for shoes. Basically, I'm addicted to this place, not only can I trade in my clothes for new ones, I usually get to walk away with cash to spare. Their rewards program is generous to say the least. I highly recommend enrolling. As always, thank you to the staff for always being amazing!!! I could go on and on....also!!! If I could give zero stars I would. I came in about a week ago and the store was a mess. Clothing on the floor, hangers sticking out, and no one there is friendly. I sold some clothes and the girl buying (I think her name was Alice?) told me the wait wouldn't be long if I stayed, so I did. I was walking through the store and could hear her talking shit about my clothes, saying how horrendous my things were, keep in mind that I'm a 46 year old man that loves fashion. when she told me she was done buying she said how "darling" a boring American Eagle tee was and that she would give me $1.99 in store credit for it. I came in tonight and it looks like none of the employees want to be there. no buyer or manager on sight, only the little girls that work the registers. No one looks like they want to be there and every time I come in they have at least 3 new employees, maybe because they can't keep anyone is what I'm guessing. Very rude and unclean. Definitely will not be back again. I tried giving a second try but that utterly failed. Good day. read more

My Saturday is not complete without a visit to Uptown Cheapskate. With a little digging, you can find some higher end brand items for unreal prices, the vast majority show little to no signs of wear. On top of that, the space is well-organized and the sales staff is lovely, never giving me the evil eye when I'm trying on 20+ items. Recently I brought a coworker friend there who was in search of a fancy fancy dress for our company Christmas party. As a rook, my friend was a little timid in her shopping approach, and one of the ladies went above and beyond in helping her find something. So appreciated, and now, she too is a lifer! The only thing I'm not wild about is the occasional pushback I receive when I politely decline to give them my email/phone/birthdate at check out - but I understand marketing strategies as well as the next gal, and the overall experience is so positive, maybe I'll just start offering an alias, like Tiffany. :) read more

I. LOVE. THIS. SHOP!!! Hands down my fave resale in Austin. And let me tell you, Austin has a great number of them. My experience has been nothing but positive with the staff (a good customer/staff interaction is a two way street), but mostly the really, really unique and high-end finds. I remember when the doors opened YEARS ago and they have certainly come a long way, obviously attracting clientele that have no need for their Donald J Pliner red patten leather heels any longer (thank you random person with awesome taste in shoes). I highly recommend this shop for anyone who loves quality merchandise at extremely discounted prices, loyalty programs and a staff of real people that only hope to do the best that they can even in the face of adversity. read more

I stopped by this thrift store tonight and came across a lot of unique and interesting items. Some were priced fairly, while others felt a bit overpriced. The staff was very friendly and attentive, which definitely made for a positive shopping experience. One downside was the way the store promotes its sales. The color-coded pricing system was confusing--I initially thought the colored dots on the tags matched the promotional stamps, but that wasn't the case. Since the colors are so similar, it's easy to misinterpret, which can be frustrating. Overall, it's a fun place to browse and you might find some great pieces. I usually don't like resale shops but I came in looking for an outfit for a concert but didn't expect to leave with anything nice. As I walked in there was no weird smell and the place is pretty clean. As I was browsing the racks an employee came up to me and asked if she could help with anything, she was the cutest thing ever, blue and pink hair and very small. I told her I needed an outfit for a country rock concert I was going to that night, she spent about 20 minutes helping me find shirts, pants, skirts, a pair of shoes, and even some jewelry. This was one of the best experiences I've ever had in a store, and just because of that employee I will definitely be back! read more

This place is so horrendous!! They sold me a fake Gucci pair of jeans. At least when we go to platos they know how to authenticate the brands. These associates need to be trained if you are going to advertise this. I tried returning and the girl behind the counter said I couldn't bc the tag was not there, so I proceeded to sell these fake jeans back to them and they didn't even buy them back!!!! Your a joke ! The extra in store credit doesn't make up for the fake things you sell. Buffalo and platos will remain my resale shops!!! read more

Terrible. My friend gave her expensive suitcase full of dresses and clothes for them to buy. They took everything, she got a receipt (see copy below), and said they would call her and email her. Never called or emailed and donated away all her clothes and suitcase worth $750 without even telling her and won't even compensate her or give her her clothes and case back. Fraudulent Store, Owner Craig is terrible to deal with and a scammer. Wont ever go there again, and told all my friends. Stay away! read more

Awesome!! Visited this store four times and each time have found something to purchase. I enjoy walking in and seeing all the racks full with attractive clothes at reasonable prices. Everyone is very friendly, helpful, sophisticated in fashion. Even though I live west on Bee Caves the location is very convenient, close to major roads and easily accessed. The parking is great and I don't worry that someone will run into my car as I did when I shopped at Buffalo in the past. read more

They always tell me what I can do to sell more and or show their appreciation for the hard work i put In finding great stuff for the store. Uptown Cheapskate has become my go-to spot for quality secondhand clothes. They have a great variety, and I'm always able to find great items at a fraction of the cost. They have a really good selection for women's clothes. I have not looked through their men's section, but they definitely have a good sized section. The value and quality of their pieces are great! The staff are wonderful, very helpful and very happy to answer any questions. read more
