Stopped off in Martinsville for the night, during a cross country road trip. Came upon this place serendipitously and it was amazing. Literally the best cabbage and best corn bites I have ever had. The employee Richard was so helpful with recommendations for us out of towners. We got the mac and cheese, which was the real deal, as well as a flavorful cheese steak and a delicious grilled cheese. The atmosphere was so welcoming. I wish I lived in the area so I could frequent this place more often. read more

Had the steak Philly, shrimp po boy, fried okra, hush puppies, and cheesecake. The room is super cool and unique. The food was fantastic. The sautéed shrimp especially, but the steak and peppers were incredible. If you're near Martinsville looking for a bite, highly recommend. Owner was working and was very nice and welcoming. The older lady who was the host didn't even acknowledge me as I entered even when I greeted her first. I went to the bar to wait for service and had to take the menu myself. Then when the lady finally came over to talk to me after standing there for 10 minutes she asked me what I wanted. Several items on the menu were not available so I asked for side suggestions with my order. She rang me up for double the price on the menu and when I asked why she rudely replied that she charged me for two orders of fish. I asked her why when I'm only ordering for myself. I had no one else with me and had never mentioned that I was ordering for anyone else. She explained that if I don't say she will charge for 2 fish instead of one like on the menu. I told her that's weird because usually people just ask. She continued to argue with me and said that I should have said I only wanted one fish. I could not believe how rude she was being to me for no reason at all and mind you it's my first time coming here and it's a big empty restaurant with just 2 tables of people. You might think for a new place the service would be friendly but nope! There was also someone passing out at one of the tables getting medical attention (hopefully not from the food). But you would think they would be nicer to their new customers. She was acting annoyed that I told her I didn't want the 2 fish orders she put in and had to change it so I just told her to forget it and canceled. I was trying this place for lunch first before I brought my family for dinner. Really glad I didn't bring a bunch of people here to be treated badly. And I literally was just telling a lady in the store about how excited I was to see a Black owned business starting in this space. Sad that the people that you try to support are the first to do you wrong! To whoever the owner is, if you want to have a successful business keep that rude old lady away from the customers and hide her in the back! The atmosphere is alright I guess, even though we came with a party of 7 (at a non busy time) and they didn't have any tables for more than 5 people. We tried ordering online beforehand, but whoever picked up didn't want to go through the trouble of making an online order and just told us to come in person. I didn't think too much of it though at first. So we sit down and order our food, all with waters, and the water took over 10 minutes to come out to begin with. On top of that, our food took over an hour (in some cases 2) to come to our table, the orders got mixed up, and it wasn't even good. The chicken was fried way too hard to the point where it was unappetizing, the mozzarella sticks didn't have any cheese in them (HOLLOW), the caesar salad was completely drenched in dressing, the chili cheese fries didnt have good chili and were missing cheese, and the corn and fish were greasy like they were cooked in old oil. The picture of fries included was the replacement and the cheese tasted like kraft. The sweet tea wasn't sweet either. The normal fries were decent but still not seasoned any special type of way, so very mediocre food overall. Additionally, the only person really working (who was the nicest woman) doesn't even work here for real, just helping out for the day from what I heard. And when I made the request to speak to the owner/manager, he didn't even have the decency to come try and make things right to our faces. Instead he sent our server over to just tell us our food was free. Overall, very poor management and cooking going on here. I don't care how many people hype this place up because this experience was enough for me to not return. It's truly unfortunate for me to have to make a review like this for a black owned business, but I'll be ordering a pizza. read more

Really good food and friendly service. When walking through the door you are greeted with soft music playing in the background and which you can sit anywhere there is a open table. All the tables are laid out with silverware and napkins and a menu. Definitely has a 5 star restaurant outlook. Don't let the appearance fool you into thinking your going to get food that's over priced cause the prices are reasonable in my opinion. After looking at the plates of food being served you might wonder where the plate went, the plates are full of food and definitely would say you get everything that you had paid for. read more

I suggested Uptown Koran Kitchen for my nephew's birthday lunch along with family totaling 8 people. it was a disappointing and frustrating experience. First - it took the waitress 15 minutes before she came to the table and another 15 minutes to take our orders. Second - 2 orders came out 35 minutes later and my fried fish was cold, overcooked, dry, and a cold baked potato. Same for the second plate. The next two plates came out 15 minutes after the first 2, and the orders were wrong. The next two came out 10 minutes later, and the birthday boy's food came last, which was 35 minutes after I received my cold plate. My nephew has fried shrimp, the easiest to prepare and the last one out. Our food was terrible and the owner didn't care. The owner asked how was our meal and I told him how disappointed we were and the poor food quality. He proceeded to tell us how rich he was and he did not need to work, but he did his restaurant was us (black people), bragging about his farm and stable of horses. I kept trying to bring him back to discuss the poor food and service and showed him my 1/3 eaten plate and one guest tried to show him his overcooked pork chops, but the owner ignored what we were saying, refused to even look at the food and kept going on with his many accomplishments. To add insult to injury, because we were a table of 8 and had 4 separate checks, they added a 25% tip to everyone's bill. Outrageous!! I believe in giving restaurants a fair break, but this is my second time at this restaurant and both experiences have been extremely disappointing. I would not recommend this restaurant. read more

My husband and I tried Kornna Kitchen for the first time this past Friday evening and our experience could not have been better. From the moment we walked in the door until the moment we left, we were taken care of and enjoyed every moment! First-the ambience is really cool. It is a large, open space, but it still feels warm with music playing and fireplaces playing on the big screens. We were greeted and sat immediately. The service was phenomenal. Our server, Richard, was friendly, prompt, and made sure we had a good experience. We were also checked in on and chatted with the owner(s) and it is clear they care about the business and community. We had the opportunity to try quite a few menu items and can honestly say I enjoyed everyone. To start, the sweet tea was delicious. Freshly brewed and the right amount of sweet. We also tried delicious mock tails. They will eventually serve alcohol, but in the meantime and for those who don't drink, the mock tails are fantastic. Classy and yummy. For an appetizer, we received the fried corn bites and oh my goodness, I could not get enough of these! Seasoned well and with a sweetness to them. They were piping hot when they hit the table and the star of dinner, to be honest. We got garden salads that were fresh and crisp. I ordered the shrimp basket and my husband got the DC Mumbo Chicken Tenderloins sandwich. The shrimp were large and the fries hot and crisp. My husbands sandwich was delicious. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the sauce was amazing! For dessert we got cheesecake and homemade lemon pound cake. If I could marry a cake, I think I would. The pound cake was perfectly moist, very lemony, and melted in the mouth delectable. 10/10. We can't wait to dine here again!! read more

I can here on a Friday for lunch because fellow FB friends had talked about it and raved about, so I was near Uptown with a friend and thought we would try it out for lunch. I really loved the vibrant colors on the walls, updated and modern seating, and modern lighting thoughtout the restaurant. As my friend and I noticed throughout the menu which we were given too they had a VERY limited selection of appetizers. Moreover, the ones they had were near or just about as much as a entree/dinner selection. Secondly, I was hoping to have some good collards, southern vegetables, or just a good selection of lunch oriented food but it seemed that there menu is manly seatfood and some chicken selections. We ended up selecting a $15 big plate of Nachos. They were good a bit over cheesy but $15, a bit overpriced for an appetizer. I would suggest a varity of diverse salads, sandwhichs, and southern vegetable centered lunch options. Plus, it would be nice if managment developed but good diverse selection of items just for lunch if they are they are going to be open. In today economy, people do not want to spend just as much for a quick lunch as they do with dinner. From a staff perspective they were hospitable, friendly, and customer-focused. Overall, great atomosphere, nice and polite employees, but work on reworking your lunch menu or just be open for dinner if those are the prices you want to charge. read more

First time visiting this establishment (it is relatively new to Uptown in Martinsville). Placed an online order (via the Toast app) for pickup. It was very easy to schedule an order for pickup in a few hours. Ordered the Shrimp Po boy and the whiting subs. One with fries, the other with onion rings. Upon arriving to pickup the order, I found the restaurant to be very open, warm, and inviting. Very relaxed ambiance. As my order was being bagged, the owner came up and introduced himself - what a friendly gentleman! Upon learning that I live in the neighborhood (just up the street), he invited me to stop by anytime, even just to have a coffee and a chat. It's obvious he cares about his restaurant and his neighbors. Got a real feeling this is an inviting family restaurant, and will definitely be back to dine there. Upon getting back home, found the food to be still warm and packaged really well. Both sandwiches were absolutely delicious and amazing - the shrimp and fish breaded and fried to perfection. Both the fries and onion rings were fantastic also! The food was truly something special, as were the owner and his coworkers. I most highly recommend Uptown Korrna Kitchen, and will definitely be back! read more
