I am an elderly gentleman and only started getting pedicures. I tried Uptown Nail Salon on November 5,2024 for the first and last time. The technician was not very good. Trimming my big toe, she cut into the flesh and I bled for 15 minutes in the salon. The toe was painful all night. To her credit she was very concerned and attentive to the toe after the accident. The massage chair did not work properly and there was no sign that the technician had clean tools. Unfortunately, the place is dangerous and I have only 1/2 foot clipped (badly). read more

I have had nothing but great service at this salon for many years. The salon is clean, the tools are clean and come in sterilized packages. I read the review below about a man who had his toe cut and I will say that there is always a small chance that you can get during a pedicure/manicure. It depends on your skin, etc. Please ignore this review as I don't believe a word of it. These ladies work very hard as they don't get paid unless they have customers. I will continue to return. On Saturday, February 22,2025 my appointment at 10AM was not started until 10:12AM because the nail technician was finding a parking spot, according to the old lady who always is there. The "fill" I needed was over an hour of the nail technician walking away from our appointment every 10 minutes to talk in language and discuss another customer's nail work! What a joke this salon is to be quite frank! They have gone downhill for some time now. I will NOT be visiting this nail salon ever again. read more

I'm writing this review regarding the 3 people who left 1 star review's bashing this poor family business because this camera guy wants to showcase his known American rights by harassing people on the street daily. He was preying on the fact that there was a HUGE language barrier between the shop employees to get likes on his "travel channel" for the wrong reasons. Dude comes into Hillcrest, incognito where marginalized people already fear for their lives and wonder why he's making people "lose their mind" I was getting my nails done a few days ago here by Hanna...(shout out to the ACTUAL owner who always does my nails) not who this videographer claims was the owner on his trash YouTube channel. Anyway....this person had a camera set up on the side walk right in front of the window filming inside of the salon. The workers and a few other ladies were wondering why this guys was filming inside the salon. Mind you....This person had a full ski mask, hat and glasses on while also wearing all black covering any way of identifying them. Everyone's getting creeped out...he claims it's because it's so cold out. I mean it was cold in San Diego the last few days but not that dang cold...So hanna(the owner) asks one of her employees to see what's going on. He goes out and asks this man to not film us. This videographer preyed on the fact that there is a HUGE language barrier and decided to escalate the situation by trying to tell a shop full of people who can't understand him, "his rights" of being able to stay on the public sidewalk and video the salon. Again, while being a creep all blacked out and covered...The salon calls the cops because they don't understand what's going on and they are freaked out by this creep who wont stop videoing them and won't leave. Because they called the cops this dude decided to stay here videoing us for an hour after...freaking these poor people out. There were 3 different bystanders who came into the salon to check and see if they were ok still not being able to really communicate to them what's going on....Again language barrier. They also agreed he was being creepy. ALL OF THEM asked why he was covering his identity too and another man who stopped by to talk to him (but not us) said it was also offputting, but was being friendly with the videographer and to remind him, he probably shouldn't have done that. One of the dudes was even sitting in his car and seen the entire thing happen, took a picture of this videographer close as heck in the window and showed it to him... the videographer claims that the guy edited the picture into making him look closer in the window like he wasn't being a creep! That man that was in the car came in the salon to call the police too, and stayed with us to help show his evidence of this guys harassing these poor people. Cops never came. That videographer finally left after talking to his "thousands of subscribers" for an hour on YouTube trying to get famous for being an a hole and harassing people...... you can go check him out on YouTube at @iimpctmedia. I looked at his videos and seems like he gets off on telling his rights to people while making them uncomfortable recording them on the street in a ski mask and glasses to post all over the internet to get likes. Anyway, please don't fault this business for this guys ability to tear it down for his own gain. Oh and I always love my nails after getting them done! Uptown Nail has wonderful and friendly staff! I've seen Tori a number of times and only have wonderful things to say about her. Not only is she an excellent stylist, my hair always looks exactly the way I wanted, if not better. I have some cervical spine issues so it's difficult for me to bend my neck and Tori always takes everything I say into consideration, treating me with the upmost respect and care. Honestly, I thought twice before reviewing this place - I don't like to spread negativity & complaining, but I thought on all the other ladies that could be frustrated as I am right now. So hopefully this helps. If you CARE about your nails, and want them to look well taken care of, DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. First that the communication is horrible - you have to repeat the same thing 3x and they still don't get it. Second that they can not perform art on acrylic, even the simplest ones. They simply don't even have a brush to do so. I came in asking for a set of acrylics with a little bit of an art painting ($65) and asked multiple times if they were able to perform that on my nails and they said yes. I will post want I wanted and what came out. After 4 days, one of the nails fell out of the blue. It simply broke in the middle of it and two days later another one... so, 6 days after dropping $80 at that place I didn't have two of my nails. Then I went back to get it fixed and notice that the lady was just putting whatever shape/size on my nail, without even cleaning up the residues. I asked her to please make sure that she was comparing both sides and shapes to have them looking the exact same, but as of you can guess, it was pointless to say. This is a modest salon with the FRIENDLIEST, most cooperative staff but above all: their work is meticulous! 99.9% and I can't believe how consistent they are. I've been coming here the last few months and i am always pleased with my nails and services. they're so nice here and always have availability for me right when i need it. they even offered neck massages when i would get my nails so i don't miss out when i don't get a pedicure for that visit. they offer water and to pay is super accommodating and easy. the last 2 visits were especially exceptional and Hanh did such a beautiful job on my nails. i always get compliments but these last 2 sets were executed perfectly and i'm so happy with her work. i will continue coming here, i love her! read more

HEALTH HAZARD. My friend and I just left this salon and we are pissed! My friend had acrylic nails and asked for a fill. The technician did not understand that she had powder on top of her acrylics , so the technician soaked them in acetone for an hour and they came off! My friend did not want the nails to come off! She repeatedly asked for a fill with powder and the tech did not understand. So, when her nails came off, my friend was upset and asked for a gel manicure instead. The technician was rude, yelled at her, and had the audacity to charge her $10 for acrylic nail removal! We tried to tell her why we were upset and that she should not charge us the $10, but she kept telling, yelling actually, us "you wanted powder but then you changed to gel". They also need to update the numbers on their nail polishes. Had a hard time matching regular colors with gel and they got frustrated with us and made us change colors several times. Never coming back here again! read more

I was upset when a particular customer wrote a bad review about the place and she failed to mention that her gnarly claws were getting fixed because my friend had gifted a manicure to this troll. And if you look up commercial photography you will see they are required to have your premision to t your images for a profit. Did you know when they decide to monetize there channel and to collect add revenue on there videos. Now because he used the video for commercial purposes these store has two option. They can exercise there rights by going after the channel and take legal action and make the channel compensated the store a share of what the video made. The worst experience of my life! I have gotten my nails done since I was 15 I am 36 now so I know a thing or two about the process. I did not get the ladies name but she was in the first chair. I asked for a cat eye design she said she could do it half way through my shitty fill she tells me they do not have the colors. Why didn't you check before you started ? I rushed to pick a color because after she cut me twice with the drill I wanted to get out of there. I did not like the color and had her remove it before it went in the UV light she was mad about this and was trying really hard with extra force to take the color off. I picked a nude pink because I knew I was going to go somewhere else at this point. This is the kicker, she did not remove all the dark polish off and still tried to paint a LIGHT pink over. This is where I ran put of patience, I pulled my hands away and and said I would like to leave and that this was the worst Nail place I have ever been to in my LIFE! she still charged me $40 wth!!!! Today was my second visit & this was by far one of the best pedicures I have ever had. I embarrassingly have calloused feet so I booked the sports pedi. I have never had someone take so much attention & care. No detail was spared. My feet are soft & my toes look great. And the price CANNOt be beat in San Diego.
