Keeping it at 1 star. The phone response has much improved but the clerical staff are not very friendly and they are just not personable or professional. Last thing I want to see is a nurse wearing headphones or who has to ask the patient what their weight was because they "forgot" and they do the bare minimum. Maybe Vanessa was just unique and cared for her patients but their replacements are there just there to collect a check or so it seems. They used to be a great practice, catering to infectious diseases and primary care. Once they became Prism, they lost several of their original doctors, lost the support staff, it went to total crap. The new patient portal is a joke. You cannot get anyone to return a phone call unless you threaten to sue. The new staff couldn't even figure out how to accept a payment. These 1 star reviews are generous and extremely accurate. STAY AWAY IT"S NOT WORTH YOUR TIME, could careless. Since being taken over by Prism it's ridiculous. Like pulling teeth to get them to send Rx to the right mail order. The physician assistant sent in the wrong Rx for me, I purchased it (insurance covered the majority, $1k) I happened to have an appointment with the doctor for a follow up. I told him, it was to strong of a Rx, and He said stop taking it, they corrected the Rx and called it in to the pharmacy. The problem, Insurance wouldn't cover an additional dosage new Rx. I called insurance, they sent messages to Uptown, I sent multiple messages that they had to contact the insurance company asking for an override and then insurance would cover. I checked 3 weeks after my first emails, with the insurance company and they keep a record when the doctors office contacts them. They had no record of any attempts from the doctors office. Today is 3 weeks, since I have asked for a referral to a specialist since the primary has to do the referral. I've emailed, 5 names in network, just pick one.. the prissy assistant told me they will get back with me. Then, I called, told the office manager would call me, that was 7 days ago. So, don't believe all these responses from the office manager.. they are only after your insurance dollars.. she doesn't even return calls. It's ridiculous and NOT WORTH YOUR TIME AND EFFORT.. I am finding anywhere else.. sad, when the support staff could careless about the patients. The doctors assistant.. act very passive aggressive and let you know up front they control who the doctor see's and are basically driving customers away with their lack of detail and could care less attitude. UPDATE: I got 2 emails after my reviews, but NO REFERRAL. NO answers just checking to see if I needed anything. But NO REPLY FOR 4 days... . currently taking 15 working days to get a referral. Kristina Schmidt is horrid!- PLEASE READ!!! I WENT A WHOLE MONTH WITH SHINGLES ON MY FACE AND SCALP BECAUSE OF KRISTINA SCHMIDT!! During the M-pox mess.. I got shingles which spread all over the left side of my scalp and face, near my eyes & ears..( which can cause death, hearing loss, & blindness) I had to pay $25 for a stupid "online visit" for her to tell me to come in. Then I had to pay $25 for also for coming into the office. So that's $50 just to get into the Dr. The M-pox test came back negative almost a week later. At this point I was sobbing from the pain, unable to sleep from the pain.. Kristina Schmidt told me to get over the counter lidocaine. SO after putting the lidocaine on my face, it caused the shingles to spread even further!! I had to do ANOTHER "online visit" with useless Kristina Schmidt who told me "Ok come back in we will test for M-pox AGAIN!" So ANOTHER $50. In the office I was crying again from the pain and the person who took the swab had to go talk Kristina Schmidt into giving me something for the pain. So again the M-pox test came back negative.. ANOTHER online "VISIT" with the most useless person Kristina Schmidt... ANOTHER $50 to come in for ANOTHER m-pox test.. LISTEN 3 weeks with shingles on my face, 3 M-pox tests.. and IT NEVER OCCURED to you that MAYBE IT IS NOT MPOX??? You should not be a doctor. At the 3rd visit the person took ONE LOOK at my face and said "That is shingles" I went A WHOLE MONTH WITH SHINGLES ON MY FACE AND SCALP BECAUSE OF KRISTINA SCHMIDT. I never got ANY sort of medication to treat the shingles infection because Kristina Schmidt refused to believe me when I said that I had not been sexually active. She REFUSED to believe that a gay man could get something besides M-pox. By the time the shingles was identified it was past the point of being treated. -A whole month of me being out of work. -A whole month of being in horrible pain. -A whole month of being unable to leave my house. -And now the rest of my life with these scars on my face and bald spots on my scalp from one incompetent woman who failed at her job because she did not believe that a homosexual was not sexually active. Uptown physicians Group has been bought by Prism and the quality of care has hit the bottom. You cannot get anyone on the phone. They have a call center and the people you need to speak with never return your call. I have waited over two weeks to get a simple prescription. I have had 2 Dr's very good Dr's leave suddenly with no explanation and I am expected to just be okay with it. The Dr I have been assigned to is either to busy or just does not care, in my opinion this clinic needs to close. The office staff is arrogant and unhelpful. Unprofessional and arrogant are the two words that perfectly describe what you get at uptown physicians group. If they were concerned about patients well being they would send your prescription in a timely manner. Two weeks is way past fair and reasonable and reeks of disrespect. Honestly, this is the worst medical group I've ever worked with. Jason Vercher regularly cancels appointments a few days before its scheduled, probably so he can go on vacation. Makes promises to go over test results with you personally and then just submits them to the portal and doesn't do anything with them or reach out to you. If you can go to another LGBTQ friendly office, you should. They have been difficult with prescriptions, their patient portal, and everything else you can think of. The doctors themselves are friendly. The rest of the clerical staff here is awful. Pre Covid this place ran more efficiently now it's an absolute joke. They won't do auto appointments anymore like they did pre covid, and insist on using the portal to schedule on your own. When you do no doctor has availability for 6+ months. I don't know how many times I've run out of PreP because of scheduling issues. Always funny how they claim to be Dallas' leading Anti HIV treatment center yet can't get the appointments straight to keep people on their medication. If you need to have your prescription moved to a different location yet again, they make YOU do it. I've never dealt with this kind of laziness in my life. YOU are my PCP, you send in the medication information why do I have to request that info from location to location. The clerical staff here makes me absolutely want to find a new PCP, because this place has become a joke. Even the doctors most of the time all it seems the advice I've received for many different ailments are drink water and exercise. Water and exercise don't cure all, I truly believe their only focus is distributing PreP and they can't even get that right. UPG is where I'll be coming for my Infectious Disease, and general Primary Care for the future, until they shut the doors...or they send us all away, which I don't foresee happening. Dr. Hays, Dr. Lee, Dr. Graneto, ALL of the Nurse Practitioners...they're all wonderful! That being said, don't come in with attitude. They won't tolerate it, and that's not a bad thing. They WILL ask you to leave if you're being rude or unruly, or not wearing a mask. ALSO, wear a mask -- it's required in THEIR building, by law AND by request -- don't have a mask on and they're going to provide you one, or send you home if you refuse. It's just that simple. I've seen a lot of people complaining about insurance issues on here as well, and you can't blame your horrible insurance companies that didn't bill you correctly, as a mistake from the practice -- my partner and I both see the same doctor, they CODE us for exactly the same things, but due to my advanced stages of certain issues....they cover more for me than they do for my partner who's slightly more healthy. I have X number of issues, and the Insurance Company knows this -- if you're ever unsure of charges, call your HI Company first -- I can almost guarantee you, THEY messed up the billing and coding....not UPG. 99% of the time, this has been the case for me. I cannot say enough good things about UPG, and I credit them with basically saving my life. I was wasting away to nothingness and couldn't figure out why, and they finally found an answer for me, and now I'm feeling much better than I ever did before I went in to see them. What to Take Away: Don't blame OTHERS for your LACK of planning. This is basically 2022, the year of LEARNING HOW TO WAIT! We're all going to have to adjust, and re-learn patience. The third floor is a surgical center. My husband had shoulder surgery here as an out patient. From the moment we arrived everyone was friendly and professional. The patient advocate did a great job of letting us know where everything was and kept checking on me throughout my husband's procedure. The surgical team introduced themselves prior and wet very reassuring. The nurse afterwards was very kind and explained the follow up care throughly. A great place to have surgery. read more

I do NOT recommend Uptown Physicians Group. I guess they're ok if you're not sick. I needed a new primary care physician and called in November to see about an appointment for an annual check up. Couldn't get me in until February. Appointment cancelled because of weather. New appointment scheduled for March. Once I arrived I was asked if anything in particular was bothering me. I mentioned a nagging sinus infection. OH. MY. GAWD. I was quickly shown the door. I guess I can try again when I have no issues. Probably not. For the record, I have had several Covid tests in the last year-all negative-and I started the vaccine on Friday. They won't see me until I have been tested again. I have no symptoms. I had been very encouraged, from what I read on their website, about Uptown Physicians. But when I came in for my initial checkup, hoping to meet my new doctor and establish a working relationship, instead I was treated entirely by a nurse or PA. The doctor literally just put his head in the door for about 10-12 seconds and went on his way--I never even got his name. It was like he just put his head in to comply with whatever insurance regulations required a "doctor's consultation." I then didn't see anyone there during covid, and when I called to see a doctor again today, I was told I was no longer an active patient, would have to register as a new patient, and there were no appointments for new patients for the next five months. Unprofessional at every moment, every time I've been in contact with them. I have to find a new doctor now, but honestly, I will probably be better off. read more

I know every experience is going to be different for everyone, and I feel for those that have had negative visits here. You'd hope in a place like the USA that every healthcare visit would be 5 stars, but that's sadly not the world we live in. There are obviously so many factors that go into the experiences we get at various establishments and services... and given this is the medical industry where all sorts of things can go wrong despite it being a necessity, I can't be surprised that some people have had bad experiences and hope I won't be one of them in the future given the problems that can arise from insurers or billing issues. My first two visits, however, were surprisingly flawless and hopefully an indicator of the long term with UPG. They were extremely prompt (I don't think I ever waited more than maybe 7 or 8 minutes after the time I checked in), very friendly (including the older receptionist I've seen some negative comments about), very efficient... and the playlist in the office plays healthy amounts of Beyonce. Hello? I'm pretty savvy with paperwork and technology, so the new patient process for me was relatively easy. But I also have PDF editing and signing functionality on my computer, so this wasn't an issue. I didn't have to print the forms and fax/mail them or take them over physically. And I was contacted quickly when there was a missing signature after sending them over. So general correspondence from reception was very prompt and friendly. The office, decor-wise, was a touch sterile... but it's a Doc's office, not a Pier 1 Imports. So that's totally forgivable. Dr. David Lee (I think he's captain of the big ship) was introduced to me on my first visit despite not being the professional that was attending me, which was a pretty astute NP named Ismail. I wasn't expecting it and it was a very PR/shake the hand of the CEO kind of move, but ultimately I really appreciated it. Maybe I had concerns or wanted to blurt out a request for a second opinion... and with that encounter, I was provided that moment. I only wish I was prompted for a more personal experience versus an almost off-putting and quick kiss-the-baby-for-the-camera kind of moment lol. He came into the exam room at some point between services with my NP and I was like... "uumm... okay?" But he wavered just enough to give me an opportunity to ask questions if I had any. So good stuff in the patient/customer service dept. overall. I really appreciated the thorough discussions and breakdown of my bloodwork results and options for different needs... I never felt rushed or like it was impersonal as if I was just a number. Never felt embarrassed or shamed by the questions asked, or the state of my health despite needing to curb some bad habits. Mind you I also have decent insurance, so I'm not sure if that changes the overall feel and experience that one might have. The patient portal aspect + automated emails/texts and such felt just a touch convoluted, but apt and convenient for this day and age. Being able to review the bloodwork before I even returned to the office is pretty cool -- even though I didn't realize it was waiting for me via email/portal in the first place. Also, everyone here that wields a syringe, including the ladies in the LabCorp next door where blood collection is done for the bloodwork (very convenient), did a great job hitting the mark with minimal pain. I had to get multiple shots and give blood. Remarkably easy and never at all uncomfortable. I can't exactly say I look forward to going to a doctor's office, which I think is the case for us all, but this is certainly the closest I've ever been to that feeling. Highly recommend. read more

I'm somewhat new to the Dallas area. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I wanted to find providers I could speak with openly. Although it took a while for me to get an appointment for a physical (about 6 weeks from first calling) it was worth the wait. They accept many insurance plans. My provider took time to listen to me and let me ask question necessary for my health. They are very informed about the pros and cons of PrEP. There's an on-site lab for blood tests. I've been going to Uptown Physicians for many years now. The staff has always been polite and friendly and the doctors knowledgeable and helpful. My pro tip is unless you absolutely have to see a doctor you should book an appointment with one of the nurse practitioners as it's much easier to book a last minute appointment with them. I practically only see Peter and he gives me the best service. They also have an onsite lab to do the blood draws so it saves you an extra appointment and trip to another location for that. They are also really fast at getting back to you with your results. The online scheduling portal is great for scheduling last minute appointments when you're sick. You can also call in if you're having something more severe and they will do their best to find a way to fit you in, even if it's seeing a different doctor or NP in the practice. read more

I found Dr. David M. Lee through my insurance plan a number of years ago when the doctor I had previously been seeing dropped off the insurance network. I basically picked him at random since he was close to my apartment at the time and had an opening. It was a good find. I like doctors who are first and foremost people. It's important to know your field and be competent, but no one is perfect, and I respect a doctor who can say "I'm not sure, I need to do some research." When I first started seeing Dr. Lee I was very sick and kept getting sicker with symptoms that seemed viral. He had me tested for all sorts of things, that kept coming back negative, but I kept getting worse. It took about six weeks but he finally figured out that I was having an allergic reaction to some medication prescribed by another doctor (it was an atypical reaction for that medicine, which is why it hadn't occurred to anyone sooner). A few days after I stopped taking those pills I was back to normal. He never once tried to convince me it was in my head, or gave up, or pretended to know what it was when he didn't. And, he really seems to care. That's what I want in a doctor. If Dr. Lee is out, they are happy to make you an appointment with one of the other doctors pretty quickly. I saw Dr. Voskuhl (sp?) once when Dr. Lee was at a conference, and he seemed to be a caring doctor as well. I will mention, for full disclosures sake, that the Uptown Physicians Group practice caters primarily to the LGBT community. I didn't know that when I first made the appointment since as I said I found Dr. Lee through my insurance plan. Personally, I don't care - he's a good doctor and just because I'm not gay doesn't mean I'm so physiologically different he can't treat me just as well as their usual clientele :) And I never was made to feel out of place for *not* being gay as a patient there. I only mention this subject since I know there are unfortunately still plenty of homophobes out there, and I would not want to inadvertantly send one to this clinic where they would probably not be comfortable (and worse yet, say or do something to make the staff and patients there uncomfortable). read more

We have decided to leave our current doctor in cedar springs because he has switched over to a "Concierge service" where you pay 1,400 OUTTA POCKET to see him- otherwise you get his lackies and flunky 30 year old nurse practitioner. APPOINTMENTS ARE HARD TO GET WITH GREAT INSURANCE at our old doctor! Called this place was given the "bums rush" right to their website by the receptionist - was told "go to the website down load the forms- fill them out- send us copies of you insurance information and drivers license" --- then they will set your appointment. Looked at the website and it loaded with a ton of convoluted , vague, difficult to read or understand LEGAL AND MEDICAL "crap", and jargon you need to be either a lawyer or doctor to understand- which I an NOT! Tons of " disclaimers" And "waivers"- which set off All sorts of "red flags" They were very focused on my insurance and not being responsible for ANYTHING - which tells me they are in this to make money NOT take care of my health first. Closed up website and said "nope not with me!" Nope! Moved on to another Dallas doctor to see if they are better- QUALITY HEALTHCARE-Even with great insurance is hard to find in Dallas! *side note: after taking to this practice on the telephone --we called UT South Western and their facilities. The staff took our information right over the telephone on the spot (insurance info/date of birth ect..) and DID SET BOTH OF OUR APPOINTMENTS OVER THE PHONE WITHOUT DIRECTING US TO A CONFUSING WEBSITE! I think they were pretty good I must've had the right kind of insurance or something if I walked in and never paid a dime and I left. I met with a nurse practitioner, I was a little hesitant at first that he wasn't an MD, but he prescribed what I needed and it seemed to help within the last couple days. Hopefully it will continue. I was a new guy from California, and Tim office manager was really nice about getting me into seeing them right away, after I was referred by another patient. So I've been putting off this review until my new doctor can get my medical records from UPG because they've been known to terminate patients and "lose documents" when they get a bad review online. Sorry to beat ya to the punch there, guys. The front desk staff is only as half as awful as people say. There's a young fellow and an old fellow. The young fellow is a sweetheart, always courteous and kind. I'll wait in line to see him. In fact most people do because the older one teeters the line on verbal abuse, and crosses that line frequently. I'll never forget the day I called in a panic over some chest pains and asked to speak to a nurse and he yelled at me and then hung up. So professional eh? I hate giving this review because I received nothing but kindness and respect from the nurses and physicians that saw me. If only courtesy equated to actual medical savvy, things would be okay. I was often interrogated for needing a Benzo and always received a surprise reaction when I told them that that fill I got filled a year ago still had pills in it (I'm guessing they deal with a lot of folks with a pill problem but they don't have to loop in their responsible patients in that category). I'm an anti depressant utilizer, and with this establishment they require a visit every six months to keep getting fills. The problem with that is when I would come in the doctor would always ask why I'm there and why I need to be seen (I guess to give ya'll my money and get you guys paid by my insurance?) They don't do much in house except blood work (the lab staff is awesome)l, however) So I had to find an outside dermatologist, gynecologist, etc. Overall pretty inconvenient. The straw that kind of broke the camels back here was getting misdiagnosed, which the radiology lab they sent me to misdiagnosed me even though results were not clear, which led to a three night hospital stay, a specialist, a surgical procedure, and a TON of medical bills only to be officially diagnosed with a very minor ailment. This ordeal also led to "other findings" by UPG and a litany of other tests being ordered despite me being otherwise healthy and getting a second opinion from another doctor who couldn't believe such a stink was made about something so minor. Healthcare is a for profit business - UPG knows this and takes full advantage of it. So if you want to risk being verbally berated by front desk staff (the old guy, not the young one), being scheduled for lots of unnecessary appointments and tests, and possibly getting misdiagnosed - by all means, go to UPG.
