My dog was in need of a bath. Usually I do it at our home but just wanted an easier process this morning. So happens that I passed this shop on our dog walk route this morning. Decided to give it a try. Self-wash for your dog is $20. They will also do for $35 which includes nail clipping. I opted to wash my dog myself since he isn't used to strangers doing it. My doggie Jace was a good boy during the process. For self-wash they have the supplies and instructions. Supplies included wash, spray conditioner, ear cleaning, towels and blow dryer. All in all took less than 10 minutes. I was able to pay with google wallet. Tip: This place also does walks. 25 min walk is only $18. That isn't bad. This place is bonded and insured. read more

Nope. Never again. Avoid it. They groomed the dog, which is pretty easy considering he was getting shaved (he was matted, our fault). But I paid them money because I thought they would be more careful, unfortunately they weren't. The dog promptly got an ear infection because they did not dry out his ears. So I had to take him to the vet after as well. Budget for that if you are taking your pet here. The owner or whoever works the desk tried to spin it as it is normal for the dog to get some pain in the ear or bleeding, completely denying it was an infection. The vet didn't think it was normal for the dogs to get bleeding in ear after grooming, and he sure agreed it was an infection. read more

Took our puppy for 2 haircuts there. First time she came out looking a little weird, but understandable for a pups first cut. Second time she was almost entirely shaved - my cavapoo now looks like a greyhound. The employee also said she "could use some obedience training because she was difficult when cutting around her face". Mind you she is 6.5 months old and had leg surgery which prevented her from doing anything for 2 months. Please keep your idiotic opinions to yourself. You're a dog groomer not a dog whisperer, do what we pay you to do. Or in our case, see ya never cuz we're not paying you to do anything again! read more

I took both my dogs -- a small basenji-mix and a big pit-bull mix (both short hair) here for a bath and nail clipping and they did a wonderful job in a few short hours. I called on a Saturday and was able to get them both in later the same day. The little one has a real problem getting her nails clipped, but to these guys it was "no problem." Awesome! And for a grooming place with "day spa" in the name, it's not nearly as expensive as it would appear. I think my bill was about 60 bucks for two dogs seen at the last minute. Also--when the owner (Tony) took my address down, he thought it sounded familiar--perhaps the same as his former-girlfriend-now-wife's apartment? He said he'd call and ask and let me know when I returned. Well guess what--she did live in our apartment a few years back! Small world. He also gave us some tips on painting the "difficult" walls in the living room. Ha! read more

I have had bichon frises for the last 20 years and the biggest challenge is keeping them well-groomed. It's hard enough brushing them daily, but finding the right groomer is also important. Once I find a great groomer, I stick with them. Urban Canine is the one and only groomer I will go to. I have been bringing my dogs there since I found them years ago. I have always been pleased at how they groomed my dogs. It's not easy to groom a breed like bichons correctly. Other places I have been to groomed my dog like a poodle, but Urban Canine knows how to do it right. She comes out looking like a show dog. Everyone at Urban Canine is friendly and helpful, too. I've watched them wash and groom the dogs and they're very caring and kind to them. The shop is very clean and odor free (unlike other groomers). You can even watch the dogs being groomed. They're not secreted in some back room, hidden from public view like at other groomers. And all the dogs I've seen come out after grooming (while I'm waiting to pick-up my dog) look fantastic and I hear their owners give high praise for UC's work. Make no mistake, Urban Canine does the job RIGHT every time, and that means what's best for the dog. I keep up with my dog's brushing between visits, so she always turns out just like I want. However, if I do not keep-up with my end, then mats form and have to be cut away. That's not the fault of the groomer. That's MY fault as an owner. Some dog owners don't realize if THEY don't keep up with brushing and maintaining their dog between grooming sessions, they can't expect the groomer to do miracles (especially with badly matted hair). I have had to have my dog shaved down on occasion because I let her hair grow very long and didn't brush often enough. That's not the groomer's fault. Of course I didn't like having her shaved, but I blame myself, not the groomer. It's best, most humane way to get rid of badly matted hair. Would you rather torture the dog with long hours of painful brushing to remove them? That's being unkind to the animal. Urban Canine's foremost concern is for the welfare of the dogs. They would rather painlessly get rid of the mats by shaving them off, than torture the dogs with hours of hard brushing and combing. Hair grows back. It is the owner's responsibility to maintain that hair, not the groomer. So anyone who complains about having their dog shaved is simply admitting to their negligence. read more

Wow! I am really shocked by all the bad reviews since we have had fantastic experiences here. I prefer the shorter on the body, slightly longer on the head type of cut so maybe that's why I've been really satisfied. I've been taking my Bichon-Poodle and Lhasa Apso-Shih Tzu mixes there for about a year and they always come out happy and looking fabulous. My sister just started bringing her Malti-poo puppy there too and they did a great job on her as well. The prices are also reasonable and they give us a little discount when we bring all three dogs at the same time. I love Urrrrban Canine and it's the only place I'll take my babies to get groomed. read more

I came in for a quick nail trim. My pup is too wiggly and strong for me to trim her nails myself so I usually have the vet or daycare take care of it for me. But I was WFH one day and thought I'd give urban canine a try since they are right down the street. I was surprised how calm Coco was as they took care of her and it only took about 5 min. The price was more than right at $15- so no complaints. They have a small selection of toys, shampoos and other doggie doo dads and the guy at the front desk was pleasant. My pup is pretty good in the bath so I dont think i'll need their other services but i'll be back for nail trims! read more

We just got our dog from there, while she was bleeding around the nails. They didn't even notice until later we found blood on our carpet. We took her back here and they tried fixing it. Seeing our dog cry like that was quite excoriating and sad. She was in a lot of pain and didn't know why we are forcing her down to keep working on the bleeding nails. That's my two cents. read more

Called Friday for a full groom and got an appointment for the next morning. Said my shih tzu would be done in 2 hours but I expected it to take longer because groomers always tell me 3-4, in addition to the fact that this was our first time here. Lo and behold I got a call 1.5 hours later and my little guy is the most handsome he's ever been. I don't like cutting his hair because he's so much cuter with long hair but at a certain point brushing him out becomes a nightmare. Tony and his team at Urban Canine are so great with our dog, Sophie. Sophie is an older dog (about 11) and Tony always makes sure to ask if there are any sore spots, or any changes that he should know about. And the price is just as great as the service! Sophie is a 75 lb lab/dalmatian mix and for the works it costs $45 (brushing teeth, cutting nails, etc.)! It is just wonderful! I was paying that much at Petco and they were rude and Sophie shook the minute we would walk up! I would definitely recommend Urban Canine, and have many times! read more

Used UC for the first time last week to get our new rescue dog groomed for the first time. Called as soon as they opened and they were very accommodating and got us in right away. We were nervous due to this being our rescue's first grooming experience but all concerns were addressed with Tony as soon as we showed up. There were no issues and our dog looks great. I gave them the benefit of the doubt the 1st time they dropped my 100lb. dog and left him limping. They DID admit the mistake at the time. This time, my 2nd dog-walked in for grooming completely healthy and walked out with a limp. See a trend? I wonder whose fault that is? Urban Canine denied responsibility- and their mistake cost me a $5000 knee surgery. First time, you get a bi because I put my trust in you and you admitted the problem. Great groomers! The owner is really friendly and knowledgeable and the staff are all nice, laid back dog-lovers who have definitely seen it all. My dog comes back smelling amazing, shedding waaaay less and gets different hankies each time to boot! I don't know what they use, but his labrador coat stays soft and odor-free for ages. First and last time visiting this place. They butchered our dog's hair. They made our untamed, wild beast look like a puff-ball poodle, not that there is anything wrong with poodles. Despite the specific directions they shaved him near bald and literally left him with a sphere of fur hanging off of his ears, head, and tail. Hate to beat up the little guy, but I really don't have anything positive to say about this one. read more

I will not take my dog here again. I took my dog here for the second time this weekend. The first time I had no problems with her hair cut but this time after I picked her up I noticed that they had shaved her so short around her neck that her skin was raw. She has cuts and now has scabs all on her throat from her hair cut. It would be one thing if it accidently happened. She is a small dog so she may be hard to groom but they just covered it up with a bandana and didn't even say anything to me. If they are going to hurt my dog during the grooming process they should at least say something to me when I pick her up. I am extremely dissatisfied by this place. read more

I scheduled my Saturday afternoon appointment with ease. I brought in my two small dogs for grooming. It took about 4 hours for the both of them to be done. The grooming was just OK. I noticed a nick on my dog's back that was covered up with a bandanna. In instances like that I wish that the groomer would have just been up front with any issues and problems. The groomer wears headphones listening to music while she grooms. This was a complete turn off to me. It just showcased how inattentive the groomer could be to my dogs. How would the groomer be able to know if the dog was hurting or uncomfortable? We usually do our grooming at the same place in the suburbs, but since we've moved to the city we are looking for a permanent place closer to home. I'd pass on this place and continue to search for another groomer in the area. read more
