Mediocre food, horrific service. I ordered the 10 piece buffalo wings and got mostly drumsticks. The fries were disgusting. The oil was obviously old. The owner was at the counter and was the worse part of the whole experience. He was clearly nice to the Caucasian customer that ordered before me but rude to me. I was contemplating to leave after I ordered but it was inevitable i eat the disgusting food. There's a billion other fried chicken restaurants with better service and FOOD! I cannot say I am happy with my experience with Urban Chicken. I called in an order for 40 wings on a Friday afternoon for pickup. When I went to go pick it up I noticed that they but was charged more than what they advertised on their website. When I asked about it, the girl said, "Oh the prices on our website are old." Really? You own a business and don't care to update your website? Then when I bought the wings home, the box was so wet the wings fell through and the wings were soggy! I will not be going back. If you want good wings go to Egans; they have an appetizer called Crispy Maple Wings and they are way better and for the same price. read more

Very good comfort food but not somewhere I would frequent for the sole reason that it is extremely unhealthy food. It was very good, but shoe leather can taste good once it's friend and slathered nj high sodium sauce so I wouldn't rate it above and beyond. Great place if you're looking for friend chicken, but even their "jumbo size" chicken looked like a chicken strip from wawa (slight exaggeration but for the point). The Mac and cheese side was also good. We also ordered the mashed potatoes and those were alright (although rather lumpy). I'm sure we will be back, but not frequently. If you have any issues with cholesterol or sodium I would avoid this place all together. read more

I used Yelp and went out of my way to find some good buffalo wings in this part of New Jersey, and found them here. I'd rate the wings 8.5/10, and I never give a 10. I ordered 10 wings for 11.99, medium sauce with ranch dressing. They came in a nice "Urban Chicken"-branded box with a foil lining. They only had canned soda, a fountain soda would have been better, but I can tell they are set up for mainly takeout, and clearly cans work better for that. There is a small round table with 3 chairs as the only seating. Mostly for people waiting for their orders, but I ate mine there, and the staff were helpful in bringing me paper towels (as napkins), and brought over some wetnaps to me as I was finishing up (without asking). $15 bucks for 10 wings and a canned soda might be priced a little high, but I was happy that the wings were larger than average, so I was completely satisfied that I had enough to eat. Parking was a little dicey as there is no street parking in front. Its right across from the commuter train station, so there is the parking lot for the train station, and I did find a spot there once a train unloaded its passengers and a spot opened up. There is no atmosphere. Its a hole in the wall and very tiny. I kind of expected that Urban Chicken would be more of a cookie-cutter franchise, but they don't spend a lot on decorating the place. But the chicken was great, and that's why I went there. So, no complaints. The wings were covered in the sauce, so they were a bit messy, but certainly worth it for the taste. The sauce (I had medium) was very tasty and with a bit of ranch were just perfect. When they first brought the wings to me, my nose immediately took notice of the strong aroma and I initially thought that they may have been too spicy for me, but I was happy to find that they were just right. Definitely on my list for a repeat visit when I'm in Montclair again. read more

I was so disappointed on my last visit/order. I ordered my usual 8 piece chicken. When I got home I did not see the usual two breast pieces but instead more thighs. If they ran out of breast they should have said something and if it was a mix up that is truly a bad one... Who makes fried chicken for a living and can't tell the difference with pieces? It was a really upsetting surprise. I also found that the breading on the chicken was alot thicker then usual! It was really bad that time around and I would have given it two stars if it wasn't for all the other better experiences I've had there. I won't be going back there for a little while. read more

I'm sorry I didn't write this review sooner. My girlfriend and I had just stepped off the NJ Transit train at Bay Street on the way to my buddy's place for a bit. We were coming back for Thanksgiving 2013. Starved from our travels (we live in DC) we quickly looked around for food options and came upon Urban Chicken. As we walked in, the middle-aged gentlemen said, "we're closed" with a pained look on his face. Stunned we just kind of stood there trying to plan our next move. What happened next blew me away. The gentleman who told us they were closed who I believe is the manager/owner made a few boxes of assorted chicken, fries and cornbread and handed them over the counter to us. He told me that he grew up with three sisters and that my girlfriend reminded him of his sister and the look of disappointment on her face was too much for him to handle. Overwhelmed by such a kind act we thanked him profusely and left the store. This demonstration of kindness is something that has stuck with me to this day. Although some time has passed since my experience at Urban Chicken, I'm sure that the quality and kindness of spirit remains. They're good people who make good chicken and other things! read more

I would like to start this review off by saying I only order boneless chicken when eating fried chicken so I can't speak for bone in wings. By far the best chicken I have had in the northern NJ area.
