Cute little deli on light street. I had it book marked, for some time just hadn't had chance to stop in. We'll the hubby and I were in the area so we decided to take a peak. There was daily specials board outside the front door. Just my luck... All day breakfast bagels made with Townson Hot Bagel - Bagels with your choice of bagel, eggs and meat either bacon or turkey sausage. I chose plain bagel with eggs and turkey sausage. Everything was great, nice fluffy egg, with turkey sausage patty (not rubbery) and the bagel was light and doughy. Hubby got the little Italy - Italian on ciabatta bread with 2 pickle Spears and chips. We'll he loved his sandwich.. He never finishes his sandwiches, this was gone in a blink. He said that bread was awesome, fresh, soft, with a bit of crunch. The meat was sliced thin so the sandwich wasn't to heavy. My only on complaint (more like my opinion) is when you are trying to read the menu there is a counter with lots decorations... It's really distracting. We had been waiting to go here for weeks and finally did it. Got the avocado toast and a BLT. The avocado toast was just slices of avocado on a plain piece of bread, not mashed at all, not even salt and pepper on top. If you're an avocado toast fan, I would not recommend. The BLT was all of about 3 slices of bacon for $9 and tasted just like any other BLT. This place is not worth the price that comes with it. read more

The woman whom I'm related to by marriage was hung over and hungry. So off I went to Urban Deli. She requested a BLT on an everything toasted bagel and it was everything she wanted! That is the only reason I'm giving Urban Deli 3 stars. However, my experience was not on par. I ordered the Riverside Rueben and do not recommend it. As you can see from the pics- there is barely any Corned Beef!!! I got more sauerkraut than I know what to do with. Very disappointed! On top of it- it took forever to make. After I ordered, a guy came in (who clearly was a regular) to order and they made his food immediately. He walked out the door with his food a good 10 minutes before I did. Fed Hill staple here. Tried most of the sandwiches. Blue Welsh is my favorite (roast beef, blue cheese, arugula, red onion, and horseradish sauce). Charm City Chicken is a close second (love the mango chutney). When you're feeling sassy go for Sassy Sagamore..it's spicy. The bread is the real MVP here. I've seen the sign for Urban Deli when I frequent a blue restaurant across the street, so I finally decided to try it. I got three sandwiches - the #52 (roast beef), the charm city chicken and a turkey club. They were very nice, made suggestions for toppings and were fairly quick considering the number of people waiting (it is very small inside). All of us loved our sandwiches and felt they were very fresh. The arugula and the cucumbers were crisp and not wilted or soggy like other sandwich places. And the bread - oh my gosh, maybe because I haven't had a real deli sandwich in a while, but the bread was delicious! We go here all of the time. The sandwiches are delicious -- especially the Smokin' Sobo and the Italian. Add avocado to the smokin' for an even better sandwich. The staff is friendly and pleasant and the owner is often nearby helping on the grind. My only criticism is that the sandwiches take a while to make which never makes too much sense to me. I get urban deli probably once a week. I love the SOBO panini! Urban deli is a staple in the Fed Hill community. You can tell by all their loyal customers and their love for their customers' dogs (they have pictures of all the dogs on their wall). I've given this place a lot of chances, considering they're the only bagel place near my house and the people are generally nice. However, I'm starting to feel like they're out of chances. The past four or five times I've come here, service has been crazy slow (just in getting our order in) and then on top of that, actually getting my food has been really slow too. I'm not ordering a Made to Order sandwich here, just a bagel. Even when I'm the only person in there, it's still slow. The last straw was coming in this morning, being the ONLY PEOPLE IN THERE, ordering two bagels, extra toasted, with veggie cream cheese. We got home and saw that we were given two BARELY toasted bagels with plain cream cheese. I just don't understand how an easy order could turn out like that. The next Nova bagel I got here was not nearly as good as the first, as the salmon was not as fresh. And I tried a couple of other sandwiches and they were mediocre. The one thing I can say about this place is that it always seems like the land of confusion. There is barely any room, so people are always cluttered together and you have to push past the people waiting to get in line. This is made much worse since it takes forever to get your order. Even if there are only three customers you still should be prepared for a long wait. There is hardly anywhere to sit, and no bathroom. Plus, they don't take credit cards if your order is under $5. There was one person ahead of me and two people working. The person before me ordered a coffee and a salad but it took 20 minutes for my order to be taken. I ordered a wrap and waited 15 minutes for it to be made. While I waited I was looking around the layout of this small shop made it extremely hard to order. The place would be crowded with 5 people inside. As I waited for my wrap, I did the dance of where to stand to wait. My choices were to block the counter, block the door or block the drinks. I ordered the powerhouse wrap and very soon regretted the choice. The wrap just did not taste right but I couldn't figure out what was giving it a horrible sour burnt taste. I went here Sunday around 11 and I left empty handed after 25 minutes. I waited at the counter for 10 minutes before someone took my order and then 3 customers behind me got their order before me. When I inquired about what was going on the woman literally said "I put that wrap down then made the other orders". Then they ran out of the type of wrap I wanted my sandwich on. No apology was made leaving me perplexed about this whole thing. I just left. It had been a total of 25 minutes to attempt to get a chicken salad wrap. Terrible. The worst addition to federal hill. I gave this place two chances. The first time I ordered two breakfast sandwiches just to be told they were out of eggs. I said fine, I have eggs at home I'll just fry one up and place on there. Give me 2 bacon & cheese bagels. Did I get a discount? No. Did I get more bacon or extra cheese? No. Still paid $8 a bagel for 2 microwaved pieces of bacon and 1 slice of cheese on a bagel. Not only did I pay for less, but I waited FORTY FIVE MINUTES...their form of apology..here, take an apple on us. After swearing to never return but nursing a hangover, I returned Today to give it another try. I ordered the Powerhouse, basically some cold veggies and cream cheese on bread which is what I wanted. And my bf got a cold cut. Two couples who ordered after us, received their food & ate their meals and left before we even got ours. Once we did get our sandwiches after 30 minutes of waiting I returned home to have NO avocado on my sandwich and my boyfriend's cold cut was PREPARED WARM on the panini press. Who puts a COLD CUT on a panini press?! Not to mention there was one piece of pastrami on it and it was dressed like a salad in some white disgusting dressing. I've been eating here since they opened at the 1500 block of Light St and followed them to their new location and it's still the same great tasting food and customer service as before. Also - HIGHLY recommended for your catering needs. I have used them for several lunches catered to our office in Harbor East and the sandwiches come fresh and made to order and Laura delivers herself!
