Strange that this business got a reboot on Yelp but after two years marred by the Covid-19 pandemic they've emerged more focused and possibly better than the 'before times'. It seems they've continued theirweekend evening hours, open until10pm, which us probably a smart decision given all the other bars and clubs nearby might turn out hungry patrons. While beers are still available on tap they apparently still have wines by the glass (red, white, and rosé according to the owner and founder). Donuts: They're seemingly improved here in terms of freshness. In the past even going bright and early didn't guarantee the donuts would be still moist and taste fresh. The recent visit after a time off showed well in terms of freshness, the Boston Cream donuts were ultra chewy and teeming with vanilla bean laced filling. Dropped in for the first time and was pleasantly surprised at how extensive their menu is! I thought I was just coming in to grab donuts for my coworkers but they offer soooo much more. This spot dubs itself the #1 donut in the IE. Located in a surprisingly large space across the street from City Hall, street parking midday can be a nightmare, but 90-minutes free is offered in a parking structure nearby. Donut Bar commits to its brand outside and in. The industrial concrete exterior is accented by a hot pink and winged donut mural. Dedicated patio space with numerous metal lawn furniture makes up for the lack of indoor dining. The interior has dark tile, mood lighting, and pink neon signs. An entire wall is dedicated to donut-themed merch. Beverages include an extensive list of coffees and local brews, but don't ask for tap water -- the snooty staff member almost lost her marbles when I asked for any non-bottled option. This same staff member turned up her nose when we asked for descriptions of some of the donut offerings. During my visit, my mother and I opted for a Cinnamon Roll with Bacon ($6) and a Caramel Latte Donut ($3). The cinnamon roll achieved the perfect balance of fluffiness, richness, and sweetness, complemented nicely by crispy bacon bits. While I originally balked at the price, I would choose this in a heartbeat over any other cinnamon roll options in the area. The donut was huge (probably 3 times the size of a standard donut shop) and maintained a Krispy Kreme-esque quality of fluffiness. Came by Sunday morning and from the outside, this places looks closed. We decided to get closer bc we figured what donut place isn't open around 10am? Surely enough, we opened the door and pink neon lights and hues greeted us! Their donuts were a lot of fun to look at and admire. No galaxy unfortunately but we did grab what the server said was a bestseller (blueberry pie I believe) and what she also said was the best sugar donut she'd had from a donut store. Holy Donut Batman! I've had plenty of donuts in my lifetime, but one nearly the size of my head was a first ha ha ha. I loved they had quite a bit of items for purchase from shirts to mugs. While donuts and coffee were a main focus they also offer craft beers and mimosas as well as flights. Heck yes! If you read my reviews I'm a sucker for flights anywhere I can find them. If I wasn't already over caffeinated I might of went for it. There's always next time. While I make it a point to not eat them regularly, I do enjoy a good donut. I was at downtown Riverside with the kiddo and since she was healed up from her oral surgery I figured she was due for a sweet treat. With the bevy of choices in front of her, what did she want? As we walked towards Donut Bar, her mind was made up. Located on the corner of University and Main, Donut Bar is in a prime location. Due to COVID you have to wait outside until they call you in, which could kind of suck if you have people in front of you who are indecisive lol. Once you're in, you are presented with a whole bunch of options. I will say, the donuts look amazing but they are also on the high side of the price spectrum averaging about $3-$5 per donut (they're also pretty large). I let the kiddo choose and she went with DBs Nutella and the Homer. Of course I had to taste test them for scientific purposes. I have to say, Donut Bar makes a dang good donut. The sweetness came from the toppings and not the donut itself so it really worked. The kiddo of course loved both choices. So yeah, eventually I'll head back to Donut Bar....especially after finding out about the Grilled Cheese Donut (!!!). Maybe I'll even have one of their craft beer options, which look plentiful.
