My husband and I both had exams at Urban Eyes last week, him for contacts and me for glasses. They were able to get us scheduled for appointments pretty quickly and were professional both in person and on the phone. The store and exam areas were clean and well lit. They are located in a shopping center with a very busy parking lot and have 2 reserved parking spots in front of their office that they recommend parking in to avoid being towed. We both thought our visits were fine, and the eye doctor was professional and thorough. and the only thing we weren't crazy about were the fact that we felt like they tried to up-sell us on a few things. Urban eyes has definitely the best glasses selection available in Denver! However the girl I had was not the friendliest when helping me. I started off with a different lady first and she was great but then her client came back so she handed me off to the one that wasn't great. I had to call to see if my glasses then came in twice. (15 days later) they were in so when I called they already had it. No one contacted me. I shouldn't have to call to see if they came in after 5 days after I was quoted they would be in and on top of it they already had it in and did not let me know. Staff could be nicer. I was nervous about finding a new eye doctor after moving to Denver since my vision is pretty bad and it had been awhile since my last exam. But I'm happy to say that I made the right choice by going to Urban Eyes! I arrived 20 minutes early and they were able to see me right away and get started with some tests. Emily was very efficient and kind, as was Dr. Speth. I really felt like I was in good hands and could trust them with my vision care! The exam was thorough and Dr. Speth was encouraging when I was trying to read the letters, haha. Emily also helped me find a new pair of glasses after hearing a very vague description of what I wanted. (The first pair she picked ended up being the winner.) Third time was the charm! Though I had 2 negative encounters with the staff, my third experience was smooth as a babies fanny! Dr Patel was forthcoming with apologies for my previous experience, Dr Speth (who once worked as a staff member & now a physician!) did a very thorough exam & the staff was on point. CV19 protocols were in place and enforced for the safety of all. This is what I expected on my initial visit and I'm extremely happy that my previous appointments were the exception, not the rule. The actual exam was great and they didn't skimp. Dr. Speth was very friendly and helpful. It really was and is the most complete eye exam I have ever had. The woman who assisted with the appointment was amazing. When I was checking out the women was a bit short. I had just had my pupils dilated. I had my first experience with Urban Eyes many months ago when I walked in asking for a screw for my sunglasses. The front office staff fixed and adjusted my glasses for free with complete professionalism. After that experience, I was happy to transfer my care to them. Today I had the most thorough eye exam I have ever had with Dr. Patel. Dr. Patel was more knowledgeable about the the ophthalmic side effects of my cancer therapy medication than my oncologist...I am so greatful. Her front office staff are not just receptionists but rather trained in performing eye testing, expert in insurance coverage, and opticians. Oh, Dr. Patel. Thank you for fixing me! First of all, I literally didn't know my vision could be this good with glasses. I thought contacts were just THAT much better, and I didn't know I had just been in the wrong prescription for so long. Second of all, Dr. Patel is so nice. She strikes that perfect balance that all doctors and dentist have to strive for: telling you you're screwing up your health without being so preachy you never come back. Third, they are right on top of it! I always get a friendly reminder call before my appointment, and calls immediately when my glasses or contacts are ready to be picked up. I could not be more pleased with my experience at Urban Eye Care. I needed a new prescription for both my glasses and contacts. I was also looking for a new set of frames and had originally planned on buying some frames online in attempt to save some money. Dr. Patel was extremely personable, efficient with her time, yet never rushed. The front desk staff was even more impressionable. I decided to have a look at some of their frames...just to look. I would never usually purchase frames without approval of my husband or family member...( I want honesty!). The staff walked me through all the frames and they were honest with me about the ones that didn't look good on my face. So appreciated. I found an amazing pair that I LOVE in a matter of 20 minutes. This process usually takes me DAYS of searching and trying on!! Best part, the frames I found were very reasonable in price. Of course they do have some more expensive options for those who want them, but you can definitely find plenty of options at very reasonable prices. I struggle figuring out VSP...the staff took care of EVERYTHING for me. I have a bad habit pulling my glasses of my face with one hand...end result is I lose up the frames by doing so. Dr. Patel you are great!! I'm new to the city and have not found an eye doctor I want to stick with, however my search is over!! Urban eyes staff has been more than accomodating. I recently experienced an eye infection that caused me to have treatment immediatley. After calling around many places, Dr. Patels office was the only one that offered to take my name down in case of a cancelation. I don't even know if there was a cancelation but they called me back in 5 minutes to fit me in that day!! Luckily I got in before things got worse and Dr. Patel was very nice and insightful as to the cause and future prevention of this type of infection. I called on Tuesday to see if I could get a same week Saturday appointment. The girl at the front desk, Kayla, said she could call me if there was a cancellation. They did have a cancellation and called Wednesday; I had never been there before. Kayla was awesome, the male eye technician, I feel bad I can't think of his name, but he was great, and the eye doctor was great as well! I now have my first pair of contacts and I love them! I also explained to the doctor that I have anxiety attacks so she worked with me and didn't make me dilate my eyes. They were all incredibly nice, and understanding of my odd quirks. Thank you!! This is now my new eye place, and I am going by to tell all of my friends and family! Dr. Patel is an exception to the rule as an optometrist. She spends time with the patient, examines all possible aspects of eye issues including glaucoma, macular issues, etc. She is receptive to the patient's lifestyle and thorough with a manual refraction and explains in detail all her findings. This type of care is much more typical with an ophthalmologist. The staff is friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable in selection of glasses, billing etc. My background was in ophthalmology and was blown away at the level of care. read more

**VSP Vision Network users pay attention to costs*** I was referred to Urban Eyes from my VSP vision insurance. The shop is really cute and has great brands for glasses. If you are not looking for expensive frames this place is probably not for you.... I got some amazing Kate Spade frames! When you check in there is a form you have to fill out and a laminated sheet explaining that they are going to do a special treatment on you that costs an additional $39 co-pay. Luckily I caught that or I would have been even further surprised by my ending bill. I asked them not to do the service. I think they should have verbally explained this before you sign the paper. Minus one star for that! The doctor is so nice and friendly! I felt like they had great technology for ensuring you had a proper eye exam. So, 5 stars for that! After the exam, we picked out frames and lenses. The staff was really helpful and has a good eye for fashion and styles. The frames range from $60-$400. I picked a mid range $194 pair. Through the VSP vision insurance, you have a $10 copay for the exam and $25 copay for the lenses and a $130 allowance for frames. I expected my bill to come just under $100. However, it was about $215. I went home and looked at my insurance plan and called them back to ask for explanation of totals (they did not provide me with an itemized receipt). They told me that I had a $10 Co-pay for the exam. $25 co-pay just for getting glasses, but couldn't really explain what for. $51 Copay for the "antiglare coating" on the lenses. $75 Copay for the antiglare lenses themselves. Not one of these are listed on my vision plan. They said they don't offer the lenses that are covered in the regular VSP plan. I just feel like that since they KNEW I was part of the VSP network, they should have disclosed all these copays prior to me buying glasses. Truthfully, I should have just went to Costco or gotten the prescription and ordered online or something. I have a feeling the glasses would have been tremendously cheaper. In the end I felt like there were many "hidden" costs and I hate leaving somewhere feeling like I was nickle and dimed. read more

We recently changed insurance and discovered Urban Eyes as the closest vision center accepting VSP. We were able to easily and conveniently book two consecutive appointments for my husband and stepdaughter. Urban Eyes is tucked away in a strip shopping center off of 32nd and Lowell in the Denver Highlands neighborhood and even though I'm sure we've driven by it hundreds of times, we didn't even know it was there. When we arrived on a Saturday afternoon we basically had the entire place to ourselves. Although it's a smaller selection of frames than you might find at a larger business, it was easy to quickly find multiple frames we were interested in. Warren was extremely friendly and helpful, especially in helping with choosing frames. It was refreshing to meet such a friendly staff, including the eye doctor and to support a locally owned business. Warren did a great job of explaining how our insurance would be covering our purchase and both pairs of glasses were ready in just 4 business days. We highly recommend you skip the vision center at the mall and check out Urban Eyes. read more

I have been going here since they opened and I have to say Dr. Alpa is the best. Thorough, caring and explains things very well. I recently had an issue with my eye after a recent exam, and she took me in right away, checked it out, and gave me guidance on what to expect next. Later when I was traveling, I experienced some of the trouble signs associated with my condition. I rushed in to emergency surgery for my detached retina. This is a great office with great staff, doctors and service. They are super helpful and it is easy to always get quick adjustments to my glasses when I am near by. I am very happy with my glasses as well. For the three star review about VSP, that person should be writing a three start review for their insurance company and not a doctor's office. Insurance companies never give me the full breakdown of costs when I call before a doc visit. She would have been better off to just call the office and get the breakdown because VSP or any other insurance never covers as much as they claim.
