I admire their small business in the neighborhood but the selection is not great and their prices are spendy.

On April 22 I made a conscious decision to go in to urban feed and garden to purchase a tree for my wife's birthday, instead of going to a box store to support a local business in my neighborhood. I paid about 40% more for a tree, a one inch caliper hornbeam in a plastic pot. The tree had a little bit of leaf burn on its new growth, but I chalked that up to being root bound in a pot, so I purchased the tree. I was landscape contractor for years, I have planted hundreds of trees so I planted this tree giving it the best possible chance for survival. With regular watering the leaf burn continued to spread, even though I held off on fertilizing the tree, until it showed signs of some growth so I wouldn't burn it or shock it. Last week I pulled it out of the ground because it was completely dead, when I did there was zero root development. Anyway, I know from experience that sometimes new plants just die but when I was running a landscape construction I warranted every plant I ever sold to a customer. If a plant died within the first year, I would replace it. I could usually bring these plants back to the vendor and exchange them for a new one, but those were real nurseries like Gurneys or Molbaks. I called this nursery and explained what I've written above and they told me they couldn't help me, I even asked if they would just give me another tree and they declined. We live in a different world, where accountability and responsibility are foreign to a lot of people. I won't be going back to Urban And garden. read more

Love having a local garden shop in the neighborhood. These ladies are friendly and offer a cool selection of products. Also, it's a big plus they are uber dog-friendly. My doggos enjoy stopping by to sniff the dog treats, food and gear. During this pandemic, we wanted to buy our Christmas tree from a local business. Being late in the season, they only had odd round bushy ones left. (It's times like this when I miss Chubby n' Tubby.) Anyhow, it quickly grew on us, and it turned out to be the most admired tree we've ever had. read more

Wow. I just called and spoke with a woman on the phone who truly had the worst customer service skills I've ever experienced. I opened with "how are you!" and she said "Fine." and there was a very long, awkward, pause. I said, "Oh, okay. Well I have 2 questions. First, do you guys carry coco coir?" Her response, "Yes." I responded, "Okay...Um...Can you tell me about the sizes and prices you're carrying..?" And she said something that wasn't into the phone so I couldn't hear, and then interrupted my next sentence to very loudly greet a customer. My second question was to ask if they were hiring. I said "I'm not even going to bother asking my second question. Have a great Wednesday, bye." and hung up. No way am I working, not shopping, for/at a place like this. read more

2 negative experiences: 1. Bought a few planet which one died 2 days later, my wife went to the store to ask if we did something wrong (she did not ask for replacement or a refund). Instead the lady insisted that we never bought the plants there and disappeared in the back of the store. 2. We decided to give them a 2nd chance and attend the dog Halloween event only to find out that while dogs are welcome, babies aren't. A group of 6 adults and a baby in front of us was refused entry and so did we. Facebook invite did not mention anything about babies that are not welcome - you are located in a neighborhood with lots of young families! Be respectful to.our time and the effort that it takes to leave the house with a baby, the least that you could have done is mention that babies are prohibited from attending. I hate writing negative reviews for local businesses but unfortunately you have earned it read more

Great prices, friendly service from all the staff... the owner was very helpful in advising us on whether to replant grass seed in our yard or try a ground cover. They also sell dog and cat food here. read more

Way cool! This is an amazing store for the area because I think it helps fill a void for gardening & pet stuff on Beacon Hill/South Seattle. Walking around, you can find awesome quality goods for gardening, pets and even also other unique items such as small decor and soaps and related bits for an awesome boutique shop. Cutters, compost, gloves, pots, feed, plants - lots of great stuff. The space is wonderfully laid out and organized both inside & out. I came back one day to pick up some bamboo working gloves. If you're in the area and/or usually shop at Lowe's or Home Depot or whatever, make a change, try this place out and support your friendly, quality local businesses. read more

This store is so cute! It's tiny but the selection is great. They have cute home decor, succulents, plants, gardening gear, pet food, and pet supplies. The pet stuff is mainly for dogs and cats but they have some chicken/rabbit/small animal stuff too. It would be a cool place to check out even if you're not in to gardening and don't have pets. Parking may seem intimidating at first but I actually love the layout of the median parking lots! It makes entering/exiting so much more convenient. The store is always clean and you always feel welcome, no matter how busy it gets. The manager is incredibly friendly. She usually gives out a free snack to your dog but will ask if it's okay first, which I really appreciate since my dog has sensitivities to certain ingredients. Come here to spruce up your home or office with a cute, tiny, easy-to-maintain succulent or to just spend a rainy afternoon browsing all of the cool home decor items! They have plants. That's what I came for and what I left with, so minimally acceptable. Staff had no interest in being helpful, answering questions, or giving suggestions. I ended up with three plants that were supposed to bloom purple, now that they've bloomed two are purple and one is pink. If they'd been correctly labled, I would have placed them differently in my yard. Thought it might be nice to support a local business, I'll probably just go back to the nursery in West Seattle. read more

I absolutely love this little neighborhood gem! They are always friendly and courteous and they pack a lot into a little space! I come here for dog food, for bird seed to fill up my bird feeders, for gardening supplies, and occasionally for gifts. And, they are super pet friendly. I am a very experienced gardener and this is a great little gem for Beacon Hill. I live in West Seattle but spend a far amount on Beacon Hill. Now that I found them I go out of my way to keep checking things out and to see what is new. I think for the size, this place offers a great selection of plants and at very reasonable prices. I have purchased things from outdoor lanterns and rugs to seeds, tools and fertilizers. I found the staff didn't bug me but was there if I asked for help. So grateful to have this store right here on Beacon Hill. I received a gift card from my family for $150- spent it all on perennials for front yard- every plant is surviving well. Unlike plants I've purchased at big box stores. The veggies I bought last year did SO well- carrots, green beans, tomatoes- every plant thrives and produced well. I haven't even purchased anything here, but I'm obsessed with this little place. While I don't really garden, I love coming and looking around at the cute decor, and they have a ton of pet supplies that my dog appreciates. I've loved their efforts to build community, too; I first visited when they did Dogtoberfest (dogs in costume! Local breweries!), and I stopped by recently for a Santa photo for my dog. I know they sell Christmas trees, too, but I haven't purchased one (we're fake tree people). Definitely recommend! read more

I have never written a yelp review but I signed up just so I could write this. My sister is very pregnant, on bed rest and due any minute. She really wanted to have a Christmas tree set up before baby arrived but her husband works odd hours and hadn't been able to pick one up. I wanted more than anything to surprise her with a Christmas tree! I called several places including Home Depot, West Seattle Nursery and Junction True Value Hardware. ALL of them told me they were too busy to help. Then I called Urban Feed & Garden and Kristy answered the phone. I am so thankful she did!!!! When I explained my sister's situation, she didn't miss a beat. Even though my sister's home in West Seattle was outside of their normal delivery zone, even though it was Saturday, even though they were slammed, she STILL made it happen. Hands down the greatest customer service experience I have ever experienced. A little kindness goes such a long way and even though it's just a Christmas tree, it meant the absolute world to my sister. Thank you Kristy and Urban Feed & Garden!!! I've been lusting after a staghorn fern for a while now but every place I looked at and called had wanted SO much for one! I called and they quoted me I think $9.99 for a 6"pot. Made a quick trip out to Seattle and bought 3. They had multiple varieties! Ample parking, friendly help, lots of plant knowledge, and a great selection, and very reasonable prices! Lovely plants - all the basics I needed for restoring my side yard with some beautiful, unusual varieties mixed in. They will let you wander as long as you want but the staff is there if you have questions. I had not realized the store was so large and well stocked with pet supplies. Urban Feed and Garden is my new favorite nursery! Not only do I love the store's setup and friendly, helpful staff, the selection of plants is by far the best I've seen. The owner, Kristi, is a certified horticulturalist, so she stocks gorgeous plants and really knows her stuff. The location is really easy to access and has lots of parking on Beacon Ave. The store has a lot of gift options and pet supplies, including awesome cat toys with great prices.
