Don't go, they don't appreciate loyal customers. Have been taking our girls here for years. Offered a veterans discount because we bring 3-4 dogs there at a time a couple of times a year and they just randomly stopped with no real explanation. We had a 16 day visit booked for December. I guess if they get busy they don't care about their loyal customers. It was very rude the way it was done. Having said that it is probably for the best because our last pick up back in August was a real mess. Pricing errors, missing items that had to be tracked down and charging for a bath that wasn't actually given. It's not like they didn't know we were picking our girls up that day. I love this place! I know they take good care of my dogs when I am away because as soon as they figure where we are they drag me to the door. They recognize me when I call, they keep me aware of when the dogs immunizations are getting close to being due, and ,most importantly....THEY LOVE DOGS. When I call to make a reservation, they ask me how my dogs are doing and always make a personal reference to them, so I know they know the dogs. I always feel totally secure when I leave my babies with them. They get to participate in Doggy Daycare during the day, and then they sleep together at night. The grooming services are reasonable and they always come home looking great. The only thing I would say that would make it better is that their lobby carpet needs to be changed to tile, because it does have an odor (because dogs have accidents....mine included) and I wish the daycare area had a little more room. BUT their love of the dogs, their professionalism, and my dogs happiness supersedes these small aesthetics. read more

I would have loved to talked to someone at Urban Hound - but after 3 phone calls, and email not returned - Philip 5 year old Corgi - we just got him 3 months ago, and I looked high and wide for the best place while we went on vacation. 1st - I would suggest to ANYONE making a appoint to get a "Estimate" of charges, because $400 went up quickly to $700. (he looked good so yes I always tip). Then we got in the car - had to stop 3 times on the way home, because of his whining to go potty (never had made a sound previously) Got home and his stool was strewn from one side of the yard to the other.. which we took our usual food for him.. so didn't think he would have such bad belly issue - I understand maybe stress. but for 4 days and 4 nights now he has thrown up and pooped in his kennel in the middle of the night .. again something he has never done before - I got to thinking, did they just leave him in his kennel room to relieve himself, now he thinks that is ok? I spoke with the vet who mentioned it could be a cold or the flu, she will test early next week if he isn't better. I would have really loved to ask these questions to those in charge. When I picked him up, it was like - hurry take him and leave.. at least thats the impression I got. read more

Not very happy about my pets stay here just over the weekend. Only getting a couple stars because my pets were at least happy when they left. But that's probably because they saw us and wanted to leave. Long story not so short, I called to check in on my pets after day 1. I asked how they were doing and immediately the lady on the phone stated they were fine. Just seemed a bit quick for me. I highly doubt she knew how they were doing. I know the front desk doesn't have a view of the pets so I would assume she would have to go ask the tech first before giving me an answer. The night before the pick up I requested for my pets to be bathed. I understand pets can have accidents and since I had a puppy, i figured i should get that done before they come home. Once I picked up the pets, both of them smelled like urine. As if they laid on the bed that also smelled like urine after their baths. I would think common sense would take place and either wash their bed or don't let them lay on a smelly bed. One more thing, During the pick up, she gave me my total and then went to the back after I paid to go get their items. She was very quiet. I wish she was more vocal about how my pets were doing. I don't like being left out. Especially when you're watching my dogs. I basically had to force an answer out of her on how they did with socializing. She first had no idea what I was talking about. Which seemed odd. I know this place has a reputation on lying about when dogs go out to play or not. I understand if I have a bad dog they won't go out to play. I would never be upset about that. But I feel as if they wanted to please me and lied. So idk if I'd bored them here again. I'll believe there's a huge lack of communication. All I want is to know how my dogs did. This is super late but I finally am remembering to write this review. I had a trip planned for right after Christmas and planned on boarding my dog Jasper. I called around and everywhere else was fully booked, except for Urban Hound. This should've been the first red flag. I dropped my dog off for boarding and I was slightly nervous because the room he would be in reeked of urine and this was the first place he'd been where the dogs just stay inside for doggy daycare. When the day came to pick him up I had a friend get him so he would be picked up before 12. I got a call at like 6 pm, when I was almost home, saying "Hi, are you not picking up Jasper today??" The women was super snippy and I started panicking saying I thought my friend picked him up and thinking oh my god did he get the wrong dog? I told her my friend was supposed to have picked him up and I will just rush there now. Then she says "Well, let me go check if he's here." And she comes back and says even more ruder than before "He's gone but he did not pay." I reminded her I left a card on file and had asked there be a note in their system that I wanted that card used when my friend picked him up. I cannot believe they couldn't keep track of my dog and don't have a better system. Also the way the women handled the situation was unbelievable and I wish she would have said her name but didn't even start the phone call with hi this is (her name) from urban hound.... I boarded my dog for the first time, and I was worried about how she'd do around other humans (she likes most other dogs). My dog has been with us a little over a year but we got her at Humane Society and I was afraid she'd think she's been abandoned. When we picked up my dog though, she seemed almost reluctant to go home, and I am sure she had a good time with other dogs. It was nice to know she was safe and well-taken care of. read more

After reading all of the recent negative reviews, it made me a bit worried. I love my dog and always want him well taken care of. So I dropped by and asked the owner, Merrell, about what was going on. He explained, in detail, the ex employee reviews and the dissatisfied customer reviews. He also stated that he was inspected by animal control (they do drop in inspections regularly with no warning) and received a clean bill from them. He also allowed me to walk into the fenced area and i'll tell you there was no smell of urine or any evidence of dog poop. My dog is always excited to go for daycare and boarding. He always comes home tired and with no evidence of any injuries. I'm satisfied that Urban Hound continues to provide an excellent haven for my dog and will continue to recommend them. I called to set up an evaluation (as is required per their website) for my dog a week prior to the time I would need him boarded. I wanted to tour the place and get an idea of what it'd be like so I figured I may as well plan ahead and do so before we were to head out of town. The place I usually took my dog to closed, so I went off of this site and it looked like a pretty good place with good reviews. The lady on the phone said they "usually do the evaluation the day they are dropped off for boarding" which made little sense to me -- if the evaluation does not go well, what happens then? The owners are already on a plane (as an example) so then what happens? Odd. She said he could stay for a maximum of 2 hours for free -- great! I scheduled to bring him on a Saturday morning and pick him up by noon. The lady also said she would call the vet to get his records. That was nice. So I arrived on Saturday and there are two doors to the facility. Naturally, I walked up to the one that was opened. Before I could get far, an older gentleman (I later learned is the owner) approached me and redirected me to another door. We walked in and the place was pretty smelly (urine). Another Yelper said the same thing. Strong odor - yes; surprising - no. After all, it is a dog boarding facility. The owner and his daughter greeted me and my dog and I let them know I was there to drop him off for an evaluation. They then tell me he can stay all day, which is different from what I was told on the phone. Not a huge problem, just different information and had to do a bit of reorganizing my day as I had originally intended on picking him up within 2 hours. Urban Hound is not too close to my house. They ask me to sign a waiver which I could not read at all. Their printer/scanner ran out of ink and so you couldn't read anything that was on the entire left side of the page. I skimmed it (I felt they were trustworthy) and signed it. The lady then grabbed my dog and took him outside and headed for the other doors. The older gentleman gave me a rundown of what they do during the evaluation: tie him up before he gets free roam (so the other dogs can smell him), walks, etc. After leaving, I felt a bit strange. I got an odd vibe regarding the 'forbidden door' and was a little upset about not receiving a tour. Granted I could have asked for one. I decided I was being too finicky and let it go. So I arrived to pick him up before they closed and when asked how he did they say "he did great." Again, when I arrived, a young lady immediately comes out of one door and says, "Here for ____? I'll go get him!" and heads to the 'forbidden door' that the pet owners are apparently not allowed to venture to. I was later told by the owner that they don't let people in there because it gets the dogs excited. Well, that's fine, but people should be able to tour the facility and/or see their dogs playing in order to get peace of mind. So I scheduled to bring him the following week. During the week, I called regarding the waiver and my uneasiness with it and asked to get one faxed to me so I could look it over. The owner said they couldn't do that but that I could read and sign another when I dropped my dog off. He also went over some of the things on the waiver. OK, fine. I drop him off on a Friday afternoon. His reservation was written on a business card-sized scrap piece of paper which seemed unprofessional. They didn't ask about ANYTHING and just grabbed him and headed out so I made it a point to let them know that I brought food and it was measured into bags for each day (something they request on their website). I also let the girl know that he CANNOT HAVE ANY TREATS as he is severely allergic. She says OK and makes a note of it. I let her know, too, that he may not eat all of his food. They had me sign another waiver, which yet again was missing the entire left side of the text. I felt OK about it as I had talked with the owner about it; just seemed very unprofessional that they have people sign those and think it's OK. The other place that I used to board with posted pictures on their Facebook while he was there. UH hasn't posted on their page in over a year. It would have been nice and reassuring. He was there for four days. When I picked him up, the owner said "I think ____ ate all of his food" as he is walking him to my car. OK, you THINK he did? As in, you don't even know if he ate? They also said that he "did great." Must be their go-to response. I was over it by this point and said OK and just took my dog and left. My dog has had diarrhea for two days and won't eat. He's been boarded many times before and has never had this problem. When I brought him home, he was very ancy to go to the bathroom and when he did go his poop was rock solid as if he hadn't gone in some time. Very little poop for such a big dog. I though he ate all his food? Also I felt rushed each time I was there. I won't be boarding him at UH again. read more

I have started taking my Luna to see Jen to get Groomed thanks to a fellow Yelper's review (Dale G.) Luna has been here twice now, once in the winter for a trim and just last week for a summer cut. Luna is a Golden so she has the long tail and feathers on her legs. We had Jen cut all the feathers down to the blonde and cut back the long tail. We LOVED how it came out. So much easier to brush and dry after she goes swimming. The only thing I didn't like was that the last time I went a girl met me in the parking lot with a leash. Luna had her leash and collar on, but the girl slipped the leash around Luna's neck and was trying to walk her. Luna isn't use to any leash that chokes her. So she was scared and pulled away even more until I told the girl. So next time I know to tell them that I will walk Luna in myself. read more

We have been taking our 1.5yr old Dachshund to Urban Hound for 6 months now. He is there 5, sometimes 6 days a week, and we couldn't have asked for a better team to care for him. Walter is always excited to go and play for the full day while we are at work, and when he comes home he is happy and exhausted. This summer they have started swimming as well, and I think it goes without saying that I trust the team, otherwise there's no way I'd let him swim without my supervision. The facility has a great open door policy, and all of the staff are helpful and willing to accommodate requests or answer any questions. I was definitely a bit concerned with the negative reviews; however, I believe the current owners are not the same as the timing on those reviews. We have had nothing but a positive experience for 6 months straight now. My only note would be that I wish they extended care later into the evening! We sometimes have to juggle schedules as we work full time as well as attend school, and a non-boarding evening option would be such a huge help for us. But the pricing is more than fair for the hours they do post! All in all, I highly recommend the facility, the staff, and the services for anyone looking for a quality doggie daycare. read more

This review is for their grooming services only. I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and they have long, flowing, lovely hair. That is, until you move from LA to Reno and they are exposed to wet, mud, and snow! My Penny also grew a crazy undercoat during the cold, so suffice to say she was a hot little mess when I brought her in. I called lots of groomers around the area to get quotes and see what the waiting list was like. I was quoted over $50 most places and there was generally a two week wait. Some places I had to leave messages and they never even called me back (Lulu's Pet Grooming, I'm looking at you!). Urban Hound called me back right away, gave me a good quote, was right in my neighborhood in the NW, and could get her in the next day. Sold! The salon is no frills as it is a boarding facility also, but it is clean. Regarding the smell someone else wrote about, it definitely has an eau de puppy to it, but what else would you expect? It's not a bakery for crying out loud. Cheryl came right out at Penny's appointment time to meet with me and discuss what needed to be done. Since Penny is a family dog who loves to hike and not a show dog despite her breeding, we decided on a summer cut so that she would be cool and ready for the sun and water (and able to avoid more matting issues!). I got the call that Penny was ready two hours later, and upon picking her up she looked great! Shaved for summer (I'm sure there are some appalled Cav owners out there but whatever), nails trimmed, ears and tail still longer and silky, and smelling so nice and clean. She was also as happy as could be, and they told me she got the award for best behaved that day. When we got home she tore back and fourth across the house for a good ten minutes she was so happy. I can tell she feels so much better having all that hair gone! The cost out the door was $40, which, considering how hairy she was, was totally worth it to me. The only things that I removed a star for are that there are some clipper marks on her coat where it is uneven, and they do not do teeth here. I have a really hard time doing her teeth at home and was hoping for it to happen when she got groomed, but no dice here even for an extra charge (which is what I was told at most other places I spoke to). Pretty small issues though in the scheme of things, and I will be coming back! I read the current review and felt that I had to relate my experience. I boarded our three dogs (2 pugs and a Shih Tzu) twice during 2017, once for over a week. The Shih Tzu is 13 years old and half blind and deaf. We brought their beds for them and their own food and instructions for amount of feed and that the pugs had to be separated from the Shih Tzu for meals because they steal his food. Each time we boarded the dogs they were healthy and happy when we came back to get them. They played during the day with other small dogs and had their own cubicle at night with their beds and toys. Urban Hound requires certificates of vaccination and that the dogs are healthy before they come in. I don't know the whole story of the dogs that the owner had bad experiences boarding here, but all I can say is that I was extremely satisfied and would board again if I had to. Dorothy M. We love Urban Hound! The owners/staff are so friendly. They are always open to answering all our questions and are always happy to see our boxer, Stella. She is a nervous dog but whenever we drop her off/ pick her up, she always looks like she had the best day ever! We never had problems booking Stella, even if it's last minute. This happened on a few occasions and they always took her in. Like I mentioned earlier, great staff and owners! I did read a comment below about not being able to see the place. I was able to see where the dogs play and did understand that I couldn't just walk in unexpected. From what I saw, all the dogs looked happy and the place was very clean! DOGS EXTREMELY ILL AFTER BEING BOARDED HERE! I originally decided to board our two dogs at Urban Hound through recommendation from my boss who had used and was satisfied with their services. The first time we boarded the dogs here, the drop-off was smooth, and we felt good about going on our weekend road trip. When we returned to pick up the dogs, the manager of the place (Jeff?) told me that they had needed to wash their beds because one of the dogs had urinated on them and needed us to come back later that day when they were done being cleaned. Returning home, it quickly became evident that both dogs were ill as they both had severe projectile diarrhea. We do not have sensitive stomached or easily stressed dogs and we had provided the place with the same food the dogs were used to, so the diarrhea was not easily explained away. Returning later that day for the beds, I confirmed with the same man that it was only urine and not something worse like vomit or feces, and the man reassured me that it was just urine and gave me the beds. This was an obvious LIE! In fact, one of the dogs was so sick that she was unable to control herself during the night and we woke the next morning to a huge diarrhea mess. Months later we needed boarding services again. I was apprehensive to take our dogs back to Urban Hound, but due to the ease of booking and no other obvious better options, we decided to give them another try. I reasoned that their had potentially been a miscommunication about the beds and that maybe our dogs had eaten something weird that had made them ill. We dropped them off and went on our vacation. I called midway through our trip to check on the dogs and got a corny, automated sounding response from the person on the phone that told me "the dogs were doing great were playing at the time", which is most likely what they tell every customer who calls about their animal. Again, this was not the truth- we returned a couple days later to dogs that looked traumatized, exhausted and were ill. This time at pickup they decided to be honest and told me that both of them had bad diarrhea and that their beds were being cleaned. This was an identical but worse repeat of the first visit. It looked like both of them had been ill for days since one of the dogs had lost so much weight his ribs were showing!! Again, the dogs had uncontrollable diarrhea and were extremely lethargic. I cannot reconcile what the cause of such severe illness could be as our dogs regularly interact with other dogs at the dog park, drink the community dog park water (which is often disgusting!) and even occasionally sample other dog poop without having diarrhea, so the only other options are that this place is extremely dirty or that they are eating something at the facility that is making them sick. In sharing this story with my coworker, she told me that she also had an identical experience with boarding her dog at Urban Hound - her dog was very ill with uncontrollable diarrhea that even required medical attention! In short, do not board your dogs here. This place obviously has something that causes the animals that stay there to become very ill. In addition, there is not a person that stays on site overnight, which forces the dogs to be left unattended without bathroom breaks for more than 12 hours every night. read more

We left Eddie over the weekend, and got him some pampering (grooming) as well and when he was picked up he was one happy pup. I have been to many places here in town trying to find some place I felt safe to leave my beloved babies. Now that I have found Urban Hound I don't have to look any further. I was a little hesitant to try this place based on the reviews here, but my wife insisted we give it a go since all of her friends told her about how great the place is now. I understand there are different owners and managers now and the reviews from before no way reflect what I have witnessed. I have showed up unannounced several times, and every time I was allowed (actually welcomed) to tour the facility. Every time I have been in, the place is spotless and smells great, obviously they care about keeping everything clean for my loved ones. The staff here is AMAZING and I feel they honestly love and care for my little ones. They come home happy every time we leave them, so much so we have started taking them there to play during the day for daycare. Every time we drive up, they bolt out of the car and run to Stacey or one of the other workers there to greet us. I highly recommend Urban Hound, I speak from experience after visiting so many other places...they are the best in town. read more

I took my 5 month old Dalmatian here and boarded him for 8 nights. I was already crying when we pulled up because I didn't want to leave my baby. He's never been without me for a single night. The GM was leaving when I got there and she immediately knew who Pongo was and she helped me carry his stuff inside. She took the time to make me feel better about leaving him. I asked a million questions and she was very patient with me and understood what I was going through. She told me to call whenever I wanted to check up on him. So I did. We have taken our puppy (8 month old golden) there twice for 24 hour stays. It is very convenient for us due to our lack of dog sitters in the area. It is very affordable at 30 bucks for 24 hours. You need to remember to bring updated shot records as they need the bortatella shot within a certain amount of time. I believe it's 6 months. Call to confirm that. We always being his food, obviously. It is clean and well organized. I would recommend this to someone coming to the area or just can leave your pet along for whatever amount of time. Being a bird dog, he really needs the workout and the socialization has turned him into a great dog. I have boarded him here twice and all seemed well. We have used Urban Hound off and on since we moved to Reno almost three years ago. I judge Vets, groomers, daycare, kennels, etc. based on my dogs reaction (we have three). If they "dig in" all fours planted and I have to drag them in, we don't go back. Period. At Urban Hound you'd think they were a dogsled team. No holding them back. Yes, I was disappointed when they changed location - LOVED Mayberry Park with grass etc. but my dogs don't seem to mind. We have used both overnight week-ends and day care. They do use time to evaluate your pet before putting in general population. I'm fine with that. I'm even fine IF my pet causes problems and they get a time out in a separate kennel. All three have been "fixed" and that does eliminate MANY problems with dogs. read more

We were not impressed with Urban Hound. We boarded our two dogs for five days. The morning I dropped off our dogs we were told that they had cases of kennel cough. We were leaving town and had no other options at this point. They said they were doing a through cleaning. I wish they had informed us at least 24 hours before drop off. We would have had a chance to make other arrangements. When we picked up our dogs they were so dirty. They smelled like urine so bad, we had to roll down the windows in our car. It took two baths to get rid of the urine smell off of their coats. To make things worse one of our dogs got kennel cough. We will not be using Urban Hound again. read more

Urban Hound is great. I have been taking my dog since he was a puppy and he loves it. The facility is clean and has a lot of things for the dogs to do during the day. Throughout the day, dogs get to play, go on walks, eat (if you need them to have lunch), and take naps. This place was great when he was younger to help him socialize not only with other dogs, but with other people when I'm not around. When I pick up my dog he is tired from playing with the other dogs and the staff. All of the staff is very friendly and they all know my dog. The owner is there most of the time during the day and he is always excited to see my dog. I have had him groomed there a few times and every time he comes back to me looking great. This is a huge plus to me because my dog hates taking baths and they can do it while I'm at work. This place is great and I continue to take my puppy there because I know he loves it and I know he is safe and treated well. The staff is amazing and I know they take good care of my dog. I used to go to this place for my dog to have a bath since they are conveniently located. The last time we brought our dog, we were very unhappy and dissatisfied with the service. She didn't look like she was bathed. The staff was rude and lazy. When she got done with her bath, we received a call that we need to pick her up ASAP, would not even give us an hour. Inquired as to why we were not informed what time we should pick her up when we dropped her off, but couldn't give us any answer except that she is in heat and need to be picked up . I told Sierra that people usually get a call that their dog is ready for pick, and given enough time to do so. She threatened to charge us a day worth of boarding. I had to ask my sick teenager to pick up our dog. When he did, the lazy staff did not give all of her stuff including her leash so my husband had to come back. The manager called back but really just to defend her staff instead of apologizing. She said she will talk to the owner and call me back. That was more than a month ago and nothing. We would not bring our dog here. read more

We have been taking our dog, Charley, to Urban Hound for boarding since they opened. He loves it there. We love it there. When we are on our way to drop him off, he gets excited a couple blocks away. When we pick him up, he is very happy and goes home to nap. He is tired out from all that play. We drive from South Reno. We have tried other boarding places closer to our house, but we will drive the little extra distance to Northwest Reno. read more

My two large dogs have been boarded here before and things were OK though not great. The environment was very noisy, with just large dog pens and one common indoor yard. This time I booked ten days far in advance, over two months. Then, four days before the scheduled visit I was called and informed that they couldn't provide service due to a move. Surely they had to know about a move before this! They absolutely left me stranded. read more
