I'm extremely disappointed with the overall quality of the coop I received and broken coop door. The coop door is designed to slide shut; however, it is too small for the opening and does not stay in place. It falls right off, and does not properly secure the coop or protect my chickens. Additionally, the latches on the outer door are cheap and does not latch close to secure the outer door.  This is a significant safety concern and makes the coop unusable as intended.  The cheap materials used do not reflect the price paid for the coop. Based on the cost spending $1,024, I expected a much higher level of quality and durability.  The quality is what I would expect ordering off Temu or Amazon and receiving a cheaply made product from China. I am extremely disheartened given the statements on Urban Northen Coop's website claiming their commitment to building quality coops, attention to detail, and improved designs. Based on those representations, I expected a product that would meet a reasonable standard of workmanship and functionality. The coop I received does not meet those advertised standards. Coop was way over-priced and made with flimsy material I could punch my fist through and it was all held together by staples and tiny little screws for heavy hinges. A bear took two minutes to just push off the nesting box. Afterwards, we moved our remaining chickens back to old coop and the Urban Northern coop actually blew over, run and all, in a stiff wind. I really wish I had come here first. I bought the metal coop, and it arrived in two boxes. The roof panels were packed in one of the boxes at the very top and bottom, with the rest of the contents sandwiched in between. Those were the pieces that were damaged because of how poorly they were packed. All four roof pieces were damaged. I'm now on my 11th email with customer service, and it seems like my replies are going to different people each time. The responses feel automated and nothing gets resolved. They kept asking for pictures, which I already sent. Then they told me they don't cover dents or dings, even though I had clearly shown that the pieces were snapped in half. After that, they stopped responding. After emailing again I heard from "Bill," who seems like just another random person, and now we're right back to being asked for pictures again. If I could give it 0 stars I would. From the time I received the coop I have had nothing but problems with it. It arrived damaged. Splintered wood, misaligned tray and warped wood. I contacted the owner, Alan. He refused to send a prepaid label to return the defective coop. After just a few days of sitting in our yard unused the roof started to peel on the first warm day. The back door has blown off twice now with just a little bit of wind. They advertise they ship from US. Only because their coops are shipped from CHINA to them and then shipped from the US. I have found their supplier and all shipment dates. I have taken several photos of the damage; it is clearly not solid wood as advertised on their website. Buyer beware! This company is currently doing business as Urban Northern Coops (no new Yelp page). This scam artist company is masquerading as a "family run" business... some way to raise a family?! Teach your kids how to mislead people and rip them off just to make a quick buck... they should be ashamed. We found UrbanNorthern.com on Craigslist. We THOUGHT we were supporting a local business buying locally made products. This company falsely advertises their products with images of other similar chicken coops. The product descriptions are vague and deceptive. They mislead people that their products are made in US with comments on their website like "shipped from the US." Their products are really made in China and the quality is not even close to what they suggest on their website. They display dozens of 4- and 5-star reviews on their website... reviews that THEY control, THEY filter - shoot, THEY probably even write them themselves. These coops are very cheaply made with thin strips of wood STAPLED together. The latches and hinges are so thin... a raccoon or any predator with any amount of strength could bust through. Our coop is only a couple weeks old and the latches are already failing and the "asphalt roofing" is already bubbling and separating from the sub-roof. There is NO way this coop will survive one winter here in the Pacific Northwest. They market these as "predator safe" yet their coops don't even have floors. Absolutely DO NOT order a coop from this company. What you order is not what you get and when you try to do a return they will not work with you. No one answers the phone or returns phone calls. The coop is an absolute piece of crap, made from kindling. It is thinner than particle board. The same thickness as wall paneling used in a home from the 70's. The water from rain comes right inside, soaking the inside of the coop. I disputed the charge with my CC company, since the business refused to allow me to send it back for a full refund. I won the dispute. THEN, two months later the company charged my CC again as if I had ordered another coop. I filed a complaint with the BBB and the Attorney General in WA state. This company is a full on fraudulent business. They don't even make these coops. They purchase them from Wayfair and other websites of the like, mark them up and list them as "homemade" on their own. We ordered a chicken coop on August 9,2021. I have many pictures illustrating that it arrived with multiple broken pieces, merely stapled together(!), and is clearly not constructed of solid wood, as advertised. The company advertises this chicken coop, the "Resort Chicken Coop and Run," as solid wood, but it is constructed using staples and extremely thin plywood and are not solid in construction as the company asserts. This "coop" has such shoddy construction; metal is thin and bent/ bends easily, etc. The company representatives, Michelle and Bill, are asserting that there is no plywood in their product, but this is a lie. Plywood is not solid wood. This is of terribly shoddy construction and blatant false advertising; this would not hold up to a mild rain to keep out the rain let alone a storm. These assertions are based on basic logic/ common sense, in addition to extensive construction experience on top of years of experience with chicken coops, poultry, and predators such as raccoons, which are common in urban and rural settings. The product listing also asserts that this product uses "strong galvanized metal mesh wire" when in reality it could easily be bent by a small feline. We have repeatedly requested that the company pay for return shipping to return the product, but this request has been repeatedly denied due to "company policy," in spite of the blatant false advertising and clear shoddy construction. Staples and metal that is so thin that it bends with the slightest of pressure do not offer superior quality. Rather, this is obviously of such inferior quality as to easily qualify for the junk pile. I wouldn't even risk burning the wood as it has the appearance of toxic junk from China. I have attempted to work this out with the company but they are insisting that the scammed customer not only be on the hook for return shipping costs but also initial shipping costs, to the tune of hundreds of dollars. Precisely, the consumer, a victim of an obvious scam, is being expected to not only shoulder the original $219.99 for shipping but ALSO the cost of return shipping, for a minimum total cost of $439.98 in exchange for no product at all, when false advertising is apparent. They try to make you think that they are actually making these coops but in fact, they are not. They order from china once they have your money. They claim it ships from the US and it does once they receive it from China. The cops are not very good quality and shipping damage is almost a positive as the materials are cheap and not packed very well. They do not answer emails in a timely manor and when they do as I found it was someone else's email as my coop had not yet arrived. Everything was well organized and marked, and my partner and I put it all together in 3 hours. BUT...five months after they charged my card and shipped it I got the same exact charge to my card today. I've reached out and received the same "we don't answer calls" message via phone, and I must admit if I had read even half the reviews on this site I never would have ordered it. Still...I'm happy with the coop, my hens are happy and I will get my money back via a my filing a dispute with my bank. But too bad they have gained such a lousy reputation. This company is URBAN NORTHERN COOP company. They probably have had to change their name a few times due to all the complaints on Blogs and the Better Business Bureau. Unfortunately I only realized this after placing my order (don't be fooled by all the reviews on their website) and now I know this company SCAMS people who cancel. I cancelled immediately (within one hour) and when I contacted them they were still going to charge the 25% cancelation fee (FOR WHAT, NO IDEA, THE TRANSACTION WAS STILL PROCESSING AND NO ITEMS EVEN CLOSE TO SHIPPED) So that 25% is $175 for canceling. The terms of service they point to are not easily seen when checking out and when you try to click on where you would think to read it, it doesn't work. Customer service definitely KNOWS about their scam and were very rude on email correspondence. I paid $999.98 on my debit card. On December 16th out of no where my card was charged out of the blue another $999.98 charge from Northern Urban Coop. I have contacted the fraud department from my bank, canceled my card and called the business. No one answers their phone and they instruct customers to email them. I cannot believe I am the not the first one to give this company a bad review because while attempting to get my money back after my 8 week old coop started falling apart, all they would tell me was how this is the first they've heard anyone have a coop fall apart so soon. Well I guess I should have looked at yelp first!!! I received my coop almost a month after the estimated time and it ended up arriving while we were on vacation. I wasn't able to set it up for a few weeks and once I did, it looked alright. A lot of the hinge screws were so small the hinges just fell off and I had to use my own tools to make it sturdy. Not a good first impression, but still not bad. I ordered the wheel kit for $118 (should have done my research, it's normally $60 at Walmart) once I tried putting the wheel kit on, it was obvious it wasn't made for this coop. According to manufacturer instructions it is to be placed on the heaviest part of the coop. Urban Farmers kept telling me "we have plenty of people that put it on the run side with no issue" ok...except that goes completely against manufacturer instructions. They refused to give me more than $60 back for it, after I paid to ship it back myself and a 25% restocking fee. So they sold me an overpriced wheel kit that can't even be used for the coop I purchased (Resort) and they won't refund anything. The email correspondence was completely rude and demeaning. I had many issues with my coop from the first week of use. The ramp completely fell apart. I mean, in 7 days of use came apart in pieces. The coop door and the whole front side of the coop became soft and easily moved. They sent me a replacement front side but what good does that do when the rest is literally crumbling? The nesting boxes are giving way and sagging, the wood that they stated was weather treated is already moldy to which they told me "coops do require some upkeep, make sure to get rid of mold as soon as possible as it will spread, clean with bleach" ok.....how does one go about cleaning a coop with bleach when there are animals inside it?! THERE IS NO REASON WHY MY COOP SHOULD HAVE MOLD AFTER 8 WEEKS OF SUMMER USE! They repeatedly told me they have a 30 day return policy and since it has been 8 weeks that is "FAR" too long and it is now my responsibility. Unbelievable. I paid $818 total for this piece of garbage and it's basically scrap after 2 months. They even accused me of dragging the coop around, no one else has ever had this problem apparently.... I filed a complaint with the BBB and was treated even worse via email by them afterwards. I spoke with Sheena mostly and Alan a few times. Neither would admit any fault or refund my money. Sheena actually told me that my complaint to the BBB wouldn't make them do anything, that they were just a middleman and the outcome wouldn't change. The worst customer service I have ever received. I bought a coop from them about 1 year ago. I was excited to be buying a made in the US product. The coop was a month late and my chickens had to live in the garage for a month while I waited for the coop to be delivered. The instructions were incredibly difficult to understand because they were not very detailed and it was impossible to tell the difference between some of the drawings of the different pieces. Certain pieces were already split and damaged on delivery. I have had the coop for a year and I feel it was a ripoff because I am now in the process of building my own replacement coop. The nesting box door hinges broke immediately, the hardware fastening the doors was very cheap, warped quickly and had to be replaced. The siding by the hutch door fell off, the stairs are a slick material that my chickens struggled to get up and I had to modify it for proper use. I was called a few weeks after the coop arrived and it was installed and told that my credit card didn't go through and that I would be charged again or I must return the coop. I called back and offered to show my credit card history showing the transaction had in fact gone through.... That issue was ultimately resolved but I feel like the product was very sub-par. Build your own, it probably shakes out to be the same price as the coop kit. I find it very strange that the reviews on the website are uniformly positive but that there are a lot of complaints here on Yelp and on the backyard chickens website... I purchased a large coop from you in June. I have 2 other coops - one that we built and one from another builder. Although I love the design of your coop, I am sorry to say that the coop I purchased from you is the worst coop I have ever encountered. The materials used are so cheap and poorly crafted, I'm having issues with every part of the structure! The bottom tray does not fit properly, and in the winter, my poor girls will have an awful draft from the bottom of the structure. I will need to modify it so they don't freeze to death. The wood itself is so thin, the whole structure seems ready to fall apart - it will surely not last a Pennsylvania winter! The egg collection lids are flimsy and have warped horribly in only a few month's use. The water runs down the roof and right into the nesting boxes, soaking my pine shavings and eggs. The dividers in the nesting boxes have never fit properly, so I have less areas for my girls to lay their eggs. The coop had to be modified quite a bit to keep the cleaning door attached to the back of the coop! The tiny latches were constantly opening and the whole back end would fall off in a swift breeze. Pieces of wood are falling off constantly and we are repairing it daily. The run door does not fit properly and is almost impossible to close/open. All hardware had to be replaced because it broke! Unfortunately, before I was able to see the coop, I recommended your company to others and my dad is experiencing the same problems with his coop! I only wish I could return this piece of garbage that I purchased from you! Never did I imagine the quality could be so poor. When I let them know the package arrived without hardware, they told me to go purchase my own if I needed it sooner than 2 weeks. I told them I'd wait since I wanted the hardware that went with the product and had paid for hardware in the package. In 2 weeks when the hardware didn't arrive, they told me they wouldn't be in the office to send the product and to go to the hardware store. I went to the hardware store and spent $45.00 on hardware that should have been part of my purchased package and the product they sold me didn't fit as advertised and as confirmed by them directly prior to the purchase. The response was, Please send us a photo of it. Us and many customers have used the 2 together. "They aren't a exact fit but it does work with minor adjustment." I have had the worst experience with them - both their product and their customer service. We spent a good chunk of money on a coop last year and Not only did we have multiple pieces arrive broken and cracked but when I contacted them about it with Photos they proceeded to say that they couldn't do anything because it was the shipping companies fault. When I went to submit a claim through the carrier I was told that the company were the ones that were required to submit a claim as the shipper so of course I told them that and they didn't to do the claim because they didn't see a point in it and the carrier wouldn't do anything. They at one point even said (multiple times) that they didn't have any proof of the damage after I had sent them multiple photos several times via email - probably because they passed me back and forth between person to person which was really annoying. Finally got them to say they'll follow up with me about a claim, and getting my message to the right person, and I have to follow up with them 2-3 weeks later and still didn't get a resolution and continued to say I never sent them photos they requested from me. They never once attempted to replace parts that were busted Or credit me and any amount for the pieces that we had to fix ourselves with various ways to make the coop work. I would expect, with such expensive products, the most amazing customer service and attempt to fix issues that are not the purchasers fault - and I'm infuriated with their lack of care for the end user or perception of their company. They waived the shipping fee for us because we're a nonprofit and this coop is intended for rescue work but that was about the only positive thing they did for us. I now have broken roof parts, broken from the day I received it, that are worsening and sooner going to provide no protection from any rain. My nesting boxes are also separating in places on the side panels and the bottom support beans for one of nesting boxes are falling apart, unscrewing, and just awful. So, we get again, had to fix it ourselves. I emailed them to see if they would send me a replacement for that so we'll see what happens. I understand things don't last forever but it has only been 5 months - and the issues from the start shouldn't have happened for this coop. Sorry for the rant. Several parts of the coop arrived cracked. Even without the cracks, the quality of the product is poor, flimsy. We paid over $1000 for the Resort coop and when we complained the owner refused to accept responsibility. We were invited to ship it back!? Shipping would cost hundreds of dollars! Our experience echoes the experience of several customer reviews below. Do not buy this overpriced coop. You will get a similar product for half the price on Amazon! The website is nice, but all those positive reviews on it are likely fake. Go see their Better Business Bureau site (I failed to do so before buying). I am sad to see a small business try and fail. But you need a good product and better service to survive. The idea for these coops was to provide a compact farming solution, which was a good idea but executed poorly. Bought the resort coop based on positive reviews on their website. Was told by representative on phone that it was made in USA. First, they sent the wrong color and informed me that I had to paint it because they won't pay return shipping ($100). I eventually accepted the fact that I was stuck with it because of their poor customer service. I went ahead and assembled it. Unbelievably flimsy material. I think it's cheap pine, but reminds me of balsa wood. Arrived with broken parts and cheap hardware. I'll be shocked if it survives the winter. Hardware cloth is on wrong side also, had to enforce it by buying more and putting it in place myself. This coop is essentially junk. No way it was made in the US.
