They do a great job of being selective about what they carry and pricing it appropriately. They have tons of my favorites including Hanna Anderson, Gap, Crew Cuts, Patagonia, and more. They have lots of great kids shoes as well--things that would normally be pricier, like Keen, Sperry, etc. I have not consigned with them although I probably should. One thing I really love is that they promote their items on Instagram (handle 529hollinhall) and you can even reserve and pay for items there. Everything is pretty clearly labeled and I found the pricing to be fair. As always I find it interesting which brands they price higher, while some designer or vintage labels are fairly inexpensive. They could use more mirrors around the store. I found it to be clean and well organized. They eventually admitted they couldn't find my items and said it must have been "stolen" and gave me just a $50 credit (Their contract states they aren't liable for lost or stolen goods, so consigners get no reimbursement), so please don't bring your high-end items here. They are disorganized, inexperienced, and unprofessional. If you want real expertise, integrity, and quality good go to New To You, where I've shopped and consigned for over 15 years--they know their brands, have high end goods prices right and take care of their consignors. I've been a devoted consignment-store shopper from Dallas to Boston to SoCal. While I found several great shops in Alexandria that day, none checked all the boxes quite like Vida Style did. First off, it has something for every budget and size. There's a $10 rack AND couture items that can cost $400-$1k+. My regular shopping budget is closer to $100, and I've never left here empty handed. The first time I visited, I was on the hunt for a muumuu for a theme party by the same name and had no problem finding the perfect item below my price point. Today, I was on the hunt for "holiday cocktail" wear and found not only a festive, sparkly A-line skirt but also a beautiful DKNY cocktail dress just my size--and walked out having spent LESS than $115 total! The hardest part will be deciding which to wear to this weekend's party. What else sets Vida Style apart is that, unlike other neighborhood shops, there's PLENTY of inventory without sensory overload. Having worked in retail, I like seeing racks that are organized (size and color!) AND easy to peruse in a reasonable amount of time (I mean, if you have a street meter running, you don't want to be in there all day, right?). Other nearby shops might have lovely items, but they're SO crammed on the rack that I just give up porque no vale la pena. Then there's the Vida Style staff. Lastly, I was pleasantly surprised to find a robust selection of blazers and suit jackets right in the center of the shop. Other stores have reduced their jacket inventory post-pandemic, but not here. Why was I not surprised that TWO attorneys were shopping here at lunchtime today? They really have it all. Upon entering the store, it could make almost any kid and kid-at-heart burst with excitement. This variety shop has almost everything you might be looking for, such as: party supplies, gifting supplies, presents for gifting, crafting goods, fabric, household essentials, kitchen/baking things, and seasonal decor. There are aisles of unique, cool and quirky gadgets and gizmos a plenty. There are toys that are nostalgically vintage that you wouldn't find in regular stores; an aisle with buckets of candy where you can pick and choose individual pieces; and sales associates that are not only courteous and personable, but they are aquatinted with their regular patrons. Their parking lot pretty much reflects the size of the shopping center--smaller than average but never crowded or full. It's handicapped accessible, however, you may need someone to manually open the two double doors to get inside. The restroom is towards the back of the shop and may be a little cramped. The Hollin Hall Variety Store is the neighborhood five-and-dime and I'm so glad that such a place exists.
