Job: partial bike assembly. Terrible customer service. Multiple delays, zero phone calls from them. Every time I called, new person, new story, new deadline, new promise someone will call me. They messed up wrapping my handlebars and misplaced/lost some small parts of mine I was hoping to get back. They offered to retape the handlebars, look for the missing parts and/or to give me a gift card. As I learned my lesson not to deal with this poorly run business, I declined. read more

Great folks! Very helpful and knowledgeable! I had an unfortunate incident with an a**hole driver that caused me to ride my bike into a wall, bending the wheel and putting my handlebars out of alignment. I brought my bike in and talked to Alan. Called to schedule an appointment to drop off my bike for a tune up. I was told to go ahead and bring it in that day. I brought my bike on and an unhappy gentleman took my bike and number and said they'd call when it's done. Called 3 days later to find out they won't be tuning it up for 2 weeks. I had a great experience with Justin, who was generous with his time talking me through buying my first pair of cycling shoes. I've cycled as a commuter for a decade, but just bought my first road bike and felt intimidated. Justin was open to my questions and I felt super comfortable, which isn't always true in the gear head world of cycling shops. I am just disappointed. I ask about a military discount (in a city with a high military population) and the question is mostly just met with a blank stare. Beyond that, no one on staff has even so little as thank me for my service. The staff keeps a distance unless you want to hear their stories of when they were "somebody" back in the day. I, most recently, went in with an issue on a bike that I brought from there. I called ahead for a rental as I had no time to spare. The rental was not ready. I didn't leave with a rental because the person that I spoke to over the phone didn't bother to mention that I needed a physical credit card though I've been coming there and paying with tap pay from my debit card for over a year (and he recognized me by voice). $100 in parts and service charges later, I leave with the exact same problem that I came with and late to where I needed to be. I come back to have someone else repair it and did not receive an apology or a discount, just excuses and another $100 receipt for parts and labor. Still spent two more days after that on adjustments myself afterwards. They are so indifferent. read more

To say I'm a bicycle novice is an understatement. Well, I just bought a bike from apartment complex from people who had left theirs behind and knew it needed a good tuneup before I could ride it around. Well, fortunately they offered a groupon for a bike tuneup and I scooped it up. I took it downtown, and the guy even helped me get my bike out of my car. Another thing I appreciated, when it came time to do the repairs, he explained what additional services needed to be done, and more importantly, he showed me where the problems were and how they might affect me if I decided to ride without getting them repaired. They were really friendly and helpful, which was really nice since I'm not an expert. read more

Just got a new bike and went in to the shop to ask a few questions and get some air in my tires. Both Josh and Jason were very professional and friendly. We rented two bikes for $40/day each. Three hours in, and 4.5 miles away, we got a flat. The shop didn't reopen until the next day at noon, so we had to walk the bikes back to our house and then back to the shop the next day. When we got there they were very smug about the flat. And proceeded to charge our card for $90 without telling us about the flat replacement fee. No offer of another bike to enjoy the last three hours of our rental period. No concessions of any kind. We were prepared to pay full price, but an extra fee? Really? So we got 3 hours out of a 24 hour rental. And then we were fined. Biggest waste of $90, and the hours of walking a dead bike through the city. I'm a business owner. Sometimes you make concessions to keep a customer. Instead they lost our business over $10. Good job Big Shark. Go buy yourself a fricken panini with that money and kiss my business goodbye. read more

Would love to update as my experience with Big Shark was totally turned around with the service I received at their Delmar Loop location. After having an issue with the bike chain from the previous service, I took it to their other location. I explained what happened and they immediately took charge and looked at the bike. The general manager asked if they could keep the bike for a day to make everything right. I left the bike and returned the next day to find they repaired or replaced many of the items in question and charged me ZERO. They refused to accept any payment and the manager was so kind and sincere. They made my bike better and I'm thankful for the service. No doubt I'll visit them again. read more

being a bicycle commuter, learning of big shark opening a downtown location excited me as much as a kid in a candy store. to be able to drop off my bike in the morning to have some work done and pick it up for the ride home was a luxury i had never known. until now. i was having some serious shifting issues with my bike, so i gave urban shark a call to set up an appointment for a major overhaul. upon bringing my bike in, brian promptly put it up for a look. not only was he able to diagnose the problem within a matter of minutes, but he also saved me a TON of money by telling me i didn't need the overhaul i thought. within a few days, i was back on my bike. after a couple of trips back for some tweaking, and i was good as new! of course, during one of those visits, i decided to peruse the inventory of shiny new cannondales. and, of course, i found several that needed me to give them a test. after consulting with brian, josh and michael, we decided on a couple of different models. after 3 or 4 test rides, i decided i wanted to test ride the synapse, which wasn't in stock in my size. they quickly called the loop store and within 2 days, i found myself sitting on the saddle of what turned out to be my new bike. the guys stayed late, putting on new tires and water bottle cages, making sure everything was just right before i took her home. they then scheduled an appointment for me to be fitted properly bright and early the next morning. i arrived early the next day, and blake had me in and out in no time. not rushing, mind you. in fact, he was very thorough and explained everything he was doing. it was just that the rest of the crew helped me pick out such a perfect fitting bike that it required very few adjustments. urban shark, you have won me over! read more

Passing thru the state and the bike rack that I had was destroying our bikes during that days travel!! We were devastated by the damage and needed a new rack, the size we needed , assembled and ready THAT day! I Called Big Shark bike shop, talked to Stephen, said come in he could help, had a rack....got there and dealt with Jonathan ....these guys AND the two mechanics were fab!!! I wasn't the most informed about current road bikes, hadn't bought a bike since 1999. I went in looking for a cyclocross bike but couldn't take my eyes off discounted 2012 Giant Defy 2 Composite. I decided to pull the trigger on the bike after a test ride and then the customer service kicked in. Jason spent what felt like the rest of the afternoon fitting me for the bike, making sure I could get in/out of the speedplay pedals, fitting my shoes, fitting the seat ect. Jason made sure the bike fit me as good as he could while informing me of all the necessary items I'd need for initial riding, water cage, bottle, padded shorts, shoes, pedals, gloves ect. He gave me good examples and told me about his experience with different items. Jason explained why the bike I chose was a good fit and it's advantages. They tuned the bike and took great care to get me out of the door with a strong feeling of comfort. The bike is awesome to ride, the customer service from Urban Shark Downtown was even better. Thanks again Urban Shark for making my purchasing experience a memorable experience. Conversely, my riding buddy bought a bike from the Edwardsville Cyclery, they sold him a bike without fitting him for anything, which I can't imagine. A fitting is a must when buying any bike. The shop is great they have everything at good prices. However it depends on what mechanic u get to service your bike the guy with the glasses is a know it all and will say u need everything replaced no matter what. And sometime won't even offer advice on how to fix anything he just said u need to buy new everything.other than that the rest of the staff is awesome read more
