I purchased a new Specialized Sirrus 3.0, 5 years ago and usually ride it between 50 to 75 miles a week. I have had it serviced at TheTouring Cyclist and they have always done a great job! Recently the frame of the bike broke without any reason??? I made Susan and Sean aware of it and they filed a claim with Specialized for me. With in about a week, Specialized decided that they would replace the bike with a new one. I was able to work with Susan and use the credit to purchase a new Specialized Sirrus 4.0 bike. I had been here before. After today, however, no more. Register lady was rude and pretended to be knowledgeable. The item they sold me for $7 did not fit as they said it would. So they switched it for a $3 item that did work, and called it even. Whether it's $4 or $1,000-- a thief is a thief. Very disappointed as I like to support local businesses, but the way they carry themselves here, I am taking my money elsewhere. read more

Called the store to see if they had a missing piece to a bike trailer I had bought off FB marketplace and they said to bring in the trailer and they'll see what they can do for me. They were able to order the missing piece I needed, and the lady was kind enough to attach it onto my bike trailer. Communication was great and their service was excellent. read more

I suggest no one use The Touring Cyclist in Bridgeton, MO! I was told my son's bike would be repaired in 2 weeks for $154.00. I dropped it off on August 16th and was to be ready on August 30th. I stopped by the shop on August 26th to get an update and ensure it would be done on time. The owner's son told me that it wasn't on anyone's list yet but he would make sure it was done. On August 30th I called and again spoke with the owner's son who told me that he was sorry that the bike mechanic had broken his hand and had someone work with him to get it done. He checked with the mechanic and said that he would be working on it on August 31st and September 1; and that the bike would be ready on September 2nd. I called to check on it and the mechanic answered the phone and said that the bike wasn't on anyone's list yet. I explained that that's not what I was told and he said it would be done on September 6th. The mechanic called my son on September 4th and said they had to order a part and it should be done September 5th. Then on September 5th my son got another call from the mechanic and was told that the bike would be done on September 6th. Today September 6th my son got a call that it was ready. I went up there at 3:30pm with my children. When I arrived I asked the owner's son what we were going to do about the inconvenience. He said nothing they told me that the mechanic broke his hand, it is what it is Shit happens. He also said he could show the pictures of the X-rays. I said This is how you handle customers. The mechanic came out and said he called us and gave us updates. I said yes a week after it was to be completed. By the way, the mechanic didn't have a cast on his hand or a brace of any kind. He said So you come in here acting like a "Fucking Child!" This is the second time they have cursed in front of my children. I said I should call the cops for verbal assault. The owner's son says Well I could call the cops saying that you're a disruptive customer and have me locked up. I paid him and said I would be leaving a review and contacting the Better Business Bureau. The mechanic says Oh well we will respond to that review. I told my kids to get in the car. When we got home we found that not all of the repairs were completed. read more

I called and asked if could change my inner tubes and show me how to do it in case I get stuck on a trail. She didn't even hesitate and answered 'of course!' I have lived in Saint Louis for some time now and have been interested in bike for most of that time. In my search for a road bike I re-stumbled upon this faithful friend in cycling. I used to go to the location off of West Florissant before it closed. I went in thinking that this place would be as great as the other location used to be but boy was I wrong. I think they have lost so much business that it has forced them to not carry much stock. I did a quick walk through looking for some higher end carbon fiber framed bikes and couldn't see anything. After a minute of searching a older gentlemen walked over and asked me if he could assist me. I told him what I was looking for and he said that they had one bike. I looked behind me and there it was, I literally walked right by it 2-3 times because it was in the middle of the isle. It looked pretty plain Jane and was not very impressive. It did have some nice componentry on it and the price was pretty decent but nothing jumped out at me about the location and the service I would get by buying my bike here. I have nothing against the gentlemen helping me but he was a little sharp with his responses to some things I said about the bike I found somewhere else. I told him that I was able to work them down on price and he very quickly said "I am not going to play games with you" in a less than nice tone. I think he hasn't ridden a bike in the last decade and was not altogether friendly. He did ask me if I wanted to try the bike out but I said the back tire was flat and looked out side and it was raining. I seriously don't think he could hear me say anything about the flat tire and couldn't see that it was raining. I told him maybe later and had to leave. I am not sure what happened to this place but I feel like they are not going to be around much longer. read more

RUDE AND DISRESPECTFUL OWNERS We bought three bikes from The Touring Cyclist in 2020 and both Sean and Susan were amazing at the time of making the sale. I was a big fan of them until today. I contacted them last week to claim my first free tune up that came along with the purchase last year. Everything was smooth and seamless and I was supposed to get my bike over the weekend. I did not get any calls of update from the store so I decided to give them a call this afternoon (Monday) to check on the status of my bikes. I spoke with Susan (co- owner) and she was rude and snappy over the phone. She told me that one of the bikes is ready and the other one is not and she did not know when it was going to be ready. I reminded her about the promise she made to have my bike ready by the weekend and she lied on my face that they never made any promises. She told me that they are always so busy that they never make any promises. I was so surprised by the way she spoke with me. Shortly after, I got a call from Sean, another owner, and he told me that my bikes are ready to be picked up. I went to pick up my bikes an hour later and decided to talk to Sean (that amazing guy who sent me emails last year explaining about the prices and details about the bikes I was looking to purchase and was so extremely helpful) to explain to him how my bike tune up experience was and that maybe he could improve couple of things while dealing with the customers. He TURNED DOWN to even talk to me, telling me that he is TOO BUSY AND DOES NOT HAVE TIME TO TALK TO ME. When I went into the store to pick up the bikes, I asked Sean what was included in the tune ups, and he said "everything". I asked again and he again said "everything" and he did not wasted a minute on me to explain what all is included in a tune up. I was SHOCKED. I have not come across a "family owned" business that does not have time to talk to the customer. I could not believe that these were the same people who were so "humble, kind, helpful" last year before I spent my $1500. I felt disrespected and extremely disappointed dealing with them and they just lost a lifelong loyal customer. Maybe they were having a bad day and stressed out of being "extremely busy fulfilling the demand during the pandemic" but this is NOT a way to deal with a customer. I am never bringing my or my friends business to them, like we did last year, or to recommend their services to anyone I know. Good Luck! read more

I'm visiting the area for work and I found this place from their ad on Craigslist. I walked in and right away Robert, one of the floor reps, came over and asked me what I was looking for. I test rode a couple bikes in the parking lot and settled on a 2018 Fuji Absolute. The entire staff was friendly and professional and they looked out for my interests as a rider. I would 10/10 return to this shop if I lived in the area. If you've read poor reviews from the past, consider giving them a try because they have changed. A+ read more

Clearly the front runner in the contest for the worst bike shop in STL! I have been to this shop twice, once to buy a pair of mountain bike gloves that were priced well above what any other shop in the area was asking, but I was pressed for time and the location was convenient, so I payed the price. The second time I took a bike to have a 20 minute job performed (again the location was convenient) and it ended up taking 2 1/2 weeks to get my bike back! Not once did I receive a call to inform me of the status of the bike nor did they call when it was finished! To make matters worse, when I picked up the bike half of what I requested to be done was not completed (I got a great excuse) and the parts they were able to install were installed incorrectly! The part was actually installed upside down!!! With service like this it's no wonder that a company that once had 7 stores is down to just one. read more

I have been in this store a few times. I even bought a bike from them in 2000. I bought a bike part from this store yesterday. I found out the part did not work for me so I just returned the part today. The owner of the store wanted to charge me a 10% restocking fee. He said it was policy. My wife said, I can walk the part over to the rack. I argued it didn't seem right. He finally did not charge us the 10% restock fee. The new owner "Sean", who I believe took this store over in 2018 was absolutely awesome! I brought my wife's bike to get evaluated and fixed up (the bike had been sitting in our basement unused for about 8 years). We had first taken the bike to a local dealer her in Manchester and was given an outrageous estimate for the repairs, roughly $500.00. We said "no way" and decided to take the bike to The Touring Cyclist instead. Sean looked over the bike and his quote to fix it up was well below half that amount. We were extremely happy and bike now works perfectly. He was super friendly, the service was great, and we could not be happier. This local chain has stores around the area with a knowledgeable staff who rides, and can help you find a ride you're comfortable with, and service it as you need in the future. Completely dissatisfied with their customer service. I called to verify my bike was ready to be picked up from being serviced and the guy had to put me on hold twice before confirming. When I asked to verify that everything was paid in full since I was having a friend pick up the bike he said that he would have to talk to the service department and call me back because he had customers in the store. Insulted, as I was also a paying customer, I hung up. I was at work and could not argue with him any longer. A minute later another guy called to confirm that the balance was paid in full and that I could pick up my bike. This guy was very friendly as I am sure he knew how I was just treated. I asked for the name of the person I was speaking to before and he responded, "the owner." Needless to say, I will not return to the Touring Cyclist and have since recommended several people to go elsewhere for any bicycle needs. I work in customer service and understand the importance of keeping and maintaining happy customers.
