Atlanta Harvest Farmers Market is a nice black owned market that's pretty far from where I reside ,…read morebut worth the drive . The tent may be small , but it's packed with high quality, locally grown products. The fresh fruits and veggies were beautiful, and the potatoes were nearly perfect- without blemishes I often see at the grocery stores. It takes me forever to pick out the best potatoes when I'm at the grocery store. They also offered fresh meats raised without pesticides, along with delicious canned jellies , local honey , and huge watermelons that reminded me of the ones I remember from childhood. A really good healthy summer treat! Note: veggies such as cabbage, greens and tomatoes , peaches pears , watermelon and fresh flowers , eggs , beef and honey are harvest on site . But specialty items , such as ; soaps , sea moss and jams come from regional makers ... just to name a few things. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. One team member even took a moment to thank everyone out loud for supporting local farmers, creating a warm sense of community and appreciation. That made me so happy! It's something that's been lost in this world - appreciation. Handicap parking is located right outside the main entrance, in front of the tent . Make note ; overall parking is very limited . I definitely chose the right time to go. And the lot of gravel , so I recommend wearing comfortable shoes ( especially the ladies ) since the ground is uneven . You will not like wearing heels . Some ladies had baby strollers , it's ok , but expect it to be a little bumpy. If you want great products and want to support local farmers I would definitely suggest Atlanta Harvest . I'm currently on rotation at the main hospital, and I can say the food here is a lot more exciting and appetizing than what they have at the hospital caf or tower cafe. They have about 15 vendors offering a variety of food and beverages. Most, if not all, vendors accept cash, credit/debit, and "Dooley dollars". On my quick walk-through, I saw a cart selling hot dogs with all sorts of toppings, a place selling samosas and other Indian goodies, a homemade pastry/bread stand, several vendors selling organic produce and pecans, fresh eggs, local honey, Honey Bubble boba tea, and a veggie burger stand, to name a few. Revolution Donuts was also set up there, and you know it's not a party without a King of Pops popsicle cart, ayyy. I stopped by the Blue Donkey coffee stand, where they were super nice and let me sample a bunch of different iced coffees. They were all delicious, but the blend of half "chocolate brigadeiro" coffee with half "summer almond" coffee they recommended was heavenly and the perfect Spring afternoon pick-me-up. I got a large for ~$5, and they did accept card. You can mix different flavors together to personalize your coffee to your taste or sweetness level. My inner Miami girl was thrilled to find a booth selling Cuban food. I got a combo with pork, rice and black beans, and sweet plantains (maduros). It was pretty legit by my standards. A heaping plate of food was a mere $8, and they accepted card as well. The farmer's market runs every Tuesday that school is in session. I'm assuming the offerings vary based on the season and availability, but it was definitely a solid farmer's market and the highlight of my Tuesday work day. I'll be back next week...

This week I found a Fresh Dahlias flowers shop, they got seafood has added one weekly hot meal served on site each week. You can get a bowl of garlic butter red shrimp and rice. They also had flash frozen wild caught fish, shrimp, scallops and crab dips all prepackaged - @got_seafood_atlanta. This Week's Food Trucks were Mac Queen ATL, offering Baked, Fried and Vegan Mac & Cheese. Also serving lamb, shrimp, wings, crab cake bites and more - @macqueenatl. Fitzgerald Smoked Meats with Brunswick stew, pulled pork, ribs and more. Brisket Limited Special. It really tasted yummy and tasty. Lots of other options for dinner such as crepes, empanadas, falafel or chicken shawarma. You can also cool off with a popsicle from King of Pops - @kop_tucker. Ample free parking around the church area. Very welcoming and nice people. The Tucker Farmers Market brings together area farmers and artisans to offer their products to the community. Their mission is three-fold: 1) to support small, local businesses and independent producers like ourselves and to encourage people to "buy local"; 2) to encourage community between Vendors and their customers; and 3) to promote the continued rejuvenation of the Main Street Tucker area. Again, it was a little crowded because it was indoors but I won't knock them for that. They have outside seating for eating and I can see this being a pleasant, lazy evening activity.

Wear boots or shoes you don't mind getting dirty because there is no floor. Just dirt It made the experience feel like a real farmers market. There was so many options for fresh fruits, vegetables, produce, nuts and more! They make their own salsa and boiled peanuts They do have pink pineapples in the fridge along with exotic fruits like star fruit, rambutan, pink and yellow dragon fruits. I believe plantains as well. The owner or cashier told me they source locally for all their items and support the community. She even share they sell locally made doggie treats by the young ladies in the photo beneath it. This was such a gem and treat. I spent about $40 and got a variety of items. You'll be blessed to get some fresh items. Enjoy!!! Don't be scared! It's so worth it!

They've been turning brown thumbs green since 2009 at their operation in College Park on the MARTA line between the East Point and College Park stations. I'd passed by before without paying attention but I wish I'd known about them before today's MLK Day service project. During our orientation, Mr. Wilson explained that they teach people in the community how to grow their own food. Adults and children can get hands-on experience at MAUF that they can use to cultivate organic gardens of their own. They learn which vegetables to plant in each season and how to nourish the soil. They also get information about cooking and preserving/canning their produce. MAUF is focused on self-sufficiency and farming of high quality produce. Everything they grow is non-GMO and is free of hormones, synthetic pesticides and fertilizer and the majority of what they plant are heirloom seeds. They have a well onsite and they're in the process of going off the grid with solar power. They sell fresh, in-season fruits and vegetables to the public, including to several of the restaurants in the area. Low-income EBT and food stamp recipients can buy $20 worth of produce for $10 through their 2-for-1 discount program. I encourage everyone to support this organization's work to educate people in the Atlanta community and help them eat nutritiously. Today we pulled weeds inside the hoop houses, tended the compost pile and stained tables in furtherance of their mission. I plan to return (when it warms up) to learn how to grow some of my favorite veggies at home! There were a lot of different options for fresh produce meat and pastries. All the booths that I stopped at everyone was very nice and answered and questions I had about their products. Bonus points for the parking being FREE that's unheard of in or around Atlanta anymore.

I tried their Purple Kohlrabi Microgreens last week. Often, I found the grocery store bought ones go bad before I can finish. So, I was THRILLED that these micro-greens from Peachy Sprouts was very fresh for a week like the man said! The Purple Kohlrabi Microgreens had a slightly firmer texture than the usual sprouts I had tried. It was fun discovering this superfood as they were visually pretty, colorful and pleasant tasting. ++. Their prices are slightly higher, but reasonable for the quality and for a small producer. ++. The man at the stall was knowledgeable and helpful! I love, love that Peachy Sprouts is a LOCAL PRODUCER with quality EDIBLE SUPERFOODS (happy dance :).
