Loudest Bingo hall I have ever been to. Terrible acoustics and awful sound system. Bring earplugs.

Friendly vendors. Fun games. Reasonable buy-in. There was a food court, but choices were limited and a bit expensive.

Maxi's Bar at the DoubleTree -- The Team That Keeps Me Coming Back…read more Let me tell you something about this place: You do not just walk into Maxi's for a drink.....you walk into a scene. Not the dramatic kind... the good kind. The kind where everyone is doing their own thing, the energy is light, and somehow the universe decides to let you breathe a little easier. Dino Dino is the kind of guy who can greet you without saying a word. You walk in, he looks up, gives you that "I see you" nod, and suddenly the whole day feels better. Steady hands, steady presence, and the type of human you're just glad exists in the world. If there was a Hall of Fame for good dudes quietly making the world nicer, Dino is already in it. Teresa Teresa is a whole mood. A whole vibe. A whole comedy sketch without trying. She will be pouring a drink, ask out loud "Single?!" and somehow you will look around the room like the universe is sending you a message, only to find out she was talking to you the whole time. Her smile is genuine, her timing is perfect, and she makes you feel like you just handed her the winning lottery numbers by simply answering a question honestly. She is the secret sauce of Maxi's, bright, sharp, and the kind of person who makes a quiet night fun. Ron (...yes, Ron) Now listen.... you have not lived until you have watched Ron run this place like he owns shares in time itself. He is direct. Efficient. Sometimes unintentionally hilarious. And absolutely part of the charm. Ron will tell you exactly what is what with the energy of a man who has already worked three shifts today. But here is the thing: he cares. He hustles. He keeps everything moving. And you cannot help but respect the guy. He' is the engine behind the bar, whether he admits it or not. The Room Soft lighting. Clean counters. A bar that feels like neutral ground, a place where the day calms down, the conversations soften, and the flowers (yes, the bouquet on the table) somehow match the mood perfectly. It is the kind of spot where you can sit with a beer and lime, watch the world do its thing, and know you are exactly where you are supposed to be. Final Word Maxi's is more than a hotel bar.... it's a little pocket of peace with a staff that makes it feel like home. Dino keeps it cool, Teresa brings the spark, and Ron... well, Ron makes sure the ship sails whether the rest of us know the route or not. Five stars. Easy. Wish I could give them six. I'll be back....and they already know it.

Had an overnight work trip that had me in Modesto so I was trying to find something fun to eat…read more After a bit of research I found this place. I showed up around 7pm and I thought it might have been closed because no one was here. But they were open. I ordered a Bauer burger with the house seasoned fries. They asked how I'd like the egg cooked and the burger cooked: I asked for medium for both. Given how dead the place was, it did take a minute to get my food. The burger was ok, not worth $21. The bun fell apart very quickly which is a bit of a cardinal sin in the burger game. The bacon on the burger was not bacon strips but a bit of bacon crumble. The patty was a bit overcooked so it was dry and it wasn't seasoned so it was bland. The egg was cooked perfectly, but the aioli and the egg yolk with a disintegrated bun made for a huge mess. The fries were interesting. The house seasoned fries are not salted. So the fries were almost sweet due to the spices, but no salt. And they do not have regular table ketchup or malt vinegar. I did ask for some ketchup and they brought me their house ketchup. While not like a classic ketchup, it was actually quite good. Oh, be aware. They will charge you a 4% fee when they bring you the check (what would have happened if I'd paid with cash?). I do not see anywhere on the menu where they say their is a payment fee so that is a pretty shady business practice. Overall: meh. I think for the price point the burger should have been great, but sadly I can't say it was great or even good. I'd likely not return.

The seasoning on the fries and the Mac and cheese was also unique and kind of sweet.

I decided to take a friend out for a Christmas lunch. She has had some serious health issues and we used to play in a couple of bands back in the day (last millennium) and always are in need to swap stories. We arrived at Sam's, found parking right outside, and entered. We were immediately seated and our drink order taken. We got coffee for her and my iced tea quite soon thereafter. I noticed that the place was both clean inside and out, a well as busy, and the staff was on keeping it so while we were there. I ordered a bowl of chili (which wasn't on the menu that I could see) just to test them a bit, and asked for the added onions be grilled and then cheese on top of that. They totally nailed it and the chili was delicious. My fellow diner was impressed with her omelette, and remarked a couple of times on the high quality of the coffee (which was refreshed often while we were there). I have to admit to a bias toward these small, mom and pop places as I like the great quality and service I find consistently at them. I highly recommend Sam's and plan to visit the next time I am in the area.
