Like I said in my tip, don't come in with any expectations…read more I'm one of those people who truly believe that your mindset will determine your experience. Yes, the base is extremely isolated, if you don't already know that then now you know. You either deal with what you have on post or you drive down the Fort Irwin Road speedway to get to where you need to go. We always opt for the latter. The schools on base are great! I can tell how much my children's teachers love teaching, especially if they're willing to make the drive out here. I've felt welcomed in their classrooms and on their campuses. The middle school sports program at Fort Irwin Middle school has been surprisingly competitive. My 6th grade daughter has played for both their volleyball and basketball team and we've loved making the drive out to watch them play at away games. The housing isn't the best we've lived in, but we've lucked out again with being placed in newer housing with less issues. I recommend for anyone PCSing over to make sure you video tape and photograph any discrepancies with your home and submit that with your list to housing. Also, invest in a ring doorbell. I haven't really had any issues with our food establishments, but then again we do more cooking at home and my kids are easy to please with the selection here. If I had to choose to eat out I'd go to Smoothie n Things and the bowling alley before anywhere else. Getting visitors on base is easy if you follow procedures. You can send in the visitor pass request early and your guests can do all the waiting at the gate without needing you to drive up to accompany them on. From what I understand they cannot clear backgrounds until they arrive, so they should expect a wait for their clearance. Want to not be a "lack for better and appropriate word" at the gate? Then dim your lights, roll down all driver's side windows, have your identification ready and be prepared to open your trunk if requested when entering the gate. Don't fight security procedures. Don't play Pokémon go? Well now's the time to start. You're either a gym rat or a Pokémon go geek. Join the darkside!

I had no idea this was a county library which was an extra bonus and it's my first time getting any county library card. For some reason I thought you could only get a county library card if you live in that county, but it doesn't matter! The ladies that helped me were so nice and the process was easy. They took me to one of the computers to read and agree to the contract and I filled out all of my own information and was given a reference number to write down,, brought it to the front desk and that was it. I chose the Disney themed card with Puff the Magic Dragon and was told of their upcoming event on Saturday where you'll be entered to win a Lego model of Tweety Bird! Definitely stop by for the card. It's also a great space to get work done if you have a laptop. Most times I'm on the go and have to stop at a coffee shop and pray they have an open seat with an outlet but here there's plenty!

Sunday reading and prancing around with the kids is bad enough (couldn't hear myself think and I had to leave), returned today and the staff was talking amongst themselves at full volume including laughing. Like good for you but this is a library. Were the staff raised by wolves? ALS the security guard in her phone not doing anything. A guy by the stacks having a full phone conversation. WTAF? If there was any other choice I would never go back. I really hope the library can shake some sense into this branch.

I almost never write negative reviews but after my recent visit to the City of Barstow Waste Water…read moreReclamation, I felt immediately compelled to share my experience. To begin, there are a few simple things that I expect from a waste water reclamation plant: 1.) Patient, courteous service 2.) A palpable passion for waste water exhibited by all active staff 3.) Free samples To say that the service was neither patient nor courteous is an understatement. No "hello, sir" or "how's it going, chief" or "wuddup dawg." Nothing. Just a lot of "why are you here?" and "what do you want?" Well, JERKS, what I *wanted* was to drop off my waste water without getting the high hat! But I guess that's too much to ask. It's Christmas time so naturally I have a lot of waste water laying around (argh, the holidays!!!) So I brought in 17 gallons of waste water to be reclaimed. These CHARLATANS looked at me and my waste like I was a NUISANCE rather than a conscientious citizen. Like I explained to Maria (total bitch), it's not my fault that one of my containers leaked on her desk calendar. If you don't like getting waste water on your desk calendar, then DON'T HAVE A DESK CALENDAR, DUMMY. The whole time I was there, I got the impression that I was being looked down upon. I have no idea why. I consider grooming to be very important (I once showered four times in one morning!!) so I know it wasn't about that. I was wearing my Barstow High School zip-up fleece jacket (go Aztecs!!), my Gary Unmarried t-shirt (big fan), and a pair of velour cutoff shorts that I have been told make me look very "continental." Why they expected me to dress in formal wear just to drop off my waste water is beyond me. This isn't Manhattan, guys, get out of your ivory towers!! Also, parking here was a total nightmare (no lines to designate parking spaces, what is this, communist Africa?) and I could have done without the locked gate. It was not a difficult climb, but still, an inconvenience. In the end, these bozos took my waste water. Did they say "thank you?" No. You know who else didn't ever say thank you? The Manson family. I'm not saying there's a connection but I'm just saying that I don't think the Manson family is a very good role model for customer service. The only upside was that while I was there I saw an actor I recognized from TV. He's the one with down syndrome that I think is on that show about state parks.

This is NOT the family-friendly theme park the website suggests it is. My kids now have all sorts of questions, like: "Is that a dead rat?", "Why did Nana have to die?", and "Is there a God?". If I could rate this negative stars I would.

It shares the same exit as Eddie's World, and you can easily spot it from the road. The entrance on Yermo Road makes it simple to drive through; unless you want to go off road, it does look like you can enter. Enter the park from across the Eddie's World because it does not seem like there is a fence .you can see the sculptures up close without even leaving your car. Many of the artworks feature well-known figures who fought for freedom in China, with banners and art installations lining both sides of the road. One of the most striking pieces is a sculpture assembled the movie 28 years later with skulls piled like a tower--a haunting reminder of those lost. I only recently discovered the park through social media, even though it's been around since 2017. When we visited, it was quiet--just one other car stopped for a quick look before driving off. Some sculptures have unfortunately been vandalized by people who disagree with their message, but that only underscores the importance of this place. If you're driving from Los Angeles to Vegas, definitely stop by and take a few photos. It's a powerful, thought-provoking stop that helps keep awareness of China's human rights crimes alive.

They have everything you need there. Supermarkets close by, a CVS. Went for my friends' bachelor/bachelorette party combined. We got a nice cabin close to town and rented a boat on Saturday. The weather was great and there were a lot of trees! I haven't been here in the snow but I can imagine it's beauty. Reminds me of Disneyland's Matterhorn mixed with California Adventure's Grizzly Peak. The drive up the mountain was beautiful. It is windy though so be cautious if you get carsick. Arrowbear had awesome rocks to look at. At night you can see the beautiful stars amongst the family of tall trees. One road into town and one road out. When I left to come home it was the butt crack of dawn but I drove through the cute little village just to see the storefronts. It reminded me of being transported into a little village in time. Like Fantasyland in Disneyland. Why does everything remind me of Disneyland? Would have been nice if I could have seen a real live bear! But no such furry beast was roaming around town. I stopped and took pictures wherever I could on my drive back home but of course, no pictures do the real thing justice.
