Making an appointment was easy, but they don't make it clear that you have to pay with a check (something not many college students carry). I tried to call to confirm the exact amount to put on a cashiers check, but I don't believe they even have a phone that rings. It would send me to voicemail and say they were busy so I had to drive there and ask a simple question. Just so anyone knows- the check fee is the exact amount listed on the site. This review is based only on the process of just trying to make an appointment. Over a 3 day period I was unable to even talk to a live person. I think the problem is mainly their limited of operation (3 days, 15.5 hours a week). I called on a Friday during business hours and after going through their extensive phone menu was promptly sent to voicemail. I didn't leave a message and decided to call back the following Tuesday. Must not have anyone in the office because didn't even get an option to leave a voicemail. Called back first thing on Wednesday (regular office hours) and got a message that they were closed until Wednesday at 10:30 AM. Well I called at 10:30, 10:40 & 10:50 with the same message. Pretty ridiculous. In addition, I believe they have a minimum of 2 week wait for an available appointment date. I decided to go elsewhere and came upon Cal State Dominguez Hills which was an entirely opposite experience. Was able to make an appointment the next day, all on-line. Super convenient and I've never seen more than one person waiting at a time. I filled out the passport form ahead of time online to save time. Even with having to get my picture taken I was in and out within 15 minutes and the lady who helped me out was super nice and explained everything very clearly to make sure I had no questions. Even if you do not go to the school I would recommend coming here instead of the post office since hardly anyone seems to know about it. My experience obtaining a passport through the office at CSULB was nothing less than exceptional. My passport was stolen with other documents late June, and I have a trip scheduled to Vancouver for the last week in August. I called their office and this woman scheduled me to process the next day. Fortunately, I'd done a little homework, and was ready to go with some of the paperwork. The woman who answered the phone prepared me for my appointment with great detail and enthusiasm, and when I arrived for my appointment, helped me further by assisting in drafting a necessary letter in regards to some special circumstances. The letter was important, as the application wouldn't have fully explained my situation. I wish I knew her name, but she was short in stature and I believe Asian? At any rate, talk about knowing her job, and using her experience to make such a difference in this process. Yes, it was expedited, but I applied on June 29th, and received my passport today, August 3rd. This is my 4th? or 5th? passport (and having had gone through at least one emergency process prior), never has the process gone so smooth. The facilitator genuinely cared about making it happen. Fast. Easy. Efficient. Friendly. I called on a Monday, got an appointment on Tuesday. The office is in the administrative building of Brotman Hall. Tell the Info Booth off of Bellflower you're there for the passport office and you get free parking for the visit. On my way out, I 'paid it forward' handing my parking pass to a student about to put money in a pay station. The office itself is just one cubicle with one lady who was very friendly and efficient. They charge $15 for the photo processing which is basically a quick pic and simple cut to proper size. The site processing fee is $40 but well worth the convenience of not standing in line for hours and getting an appointment so quickly. She told me I would receive my passport in 4-6 weeks. Great service. I came here after visiting GMF post office twice. Their lines were way too long and I have to do my application process at a window?? I'll pass. Anyway, I came here with low expectations because of my experience at GMF. At CSULB, they do the application process in a nice, private office/cubicle. They were all booked for the day so I made an appointment for the following day. My boyfriend and I were the last appointment of the day. We were out of there in about an hour because we didn't have our photos already taken and there was a lot of small talk going on. The ladies who work here were very informative and helpful. They went out of their way to make sure that I was satisfied. Tips: -call and make an appointment -fill out your application online and bring it in -they only accept checks or money orders -DO NOT pay for parking. You can ask them for a parking pass. read more

I went to so many passport offices on my days off and wasted my time waiting in the longest, smelliest lines only to be told by some of the rudest people that I wouldn't be seen after waiting 3+ hours in line. But then I found this place... There's one woman working in the office but she is soooo polite and efficient! I didn't have an appointment and walked in on a Monday at 1:30pm. There were three people with appointments and one guy without and appointment who only needed his photo taken. I waited 50 mins before she saw me and since I had everything, the process only took 10mins with her! Just make sure you have everything filled out correctly and comepltely and you'll be good. You need: -the correct application (they have them all there) -your photo (they also take photos there for a fee) -a check for your passport - $25 fee in debit/credit (totally worth it for using the school) -photocopy of the front AND back of your license (they have a copy machine, just bring some nickels or dimes) Be prepared and it'll go so fast! This August will be my first trip across the Pond. Totally excited about it, but was dreading the whole getting your passport experience. I'm not a fan of standing in lines at the post office or going to some rinky dink place that charges a lot more than its worth. My sister (also CSULB alum), mentioned to me that CSULB had a passport office. Word?! Who knew they had one. Maybe because when I was a student there I didn't frequent Brotman Hall outside of paying tuition. The funny thing about that is that I would go to the Veterans office (also in the same office as the Passport office) and had no clue it was there. Got to Brotman Hall and the office is located in the Career Development Center. Its the first cubicle to your right. If you haven't already filled out a passport form, they have some available which you can fill out before starting the process. The lady who runs the office is super sweet and nice. Answered any and all questions we had. A seamless process! One thing to note, that in addition to the passport fee, they also charge a $25 dollar processing fee. No big deal considering you have no line to contend with and they process everything for you. Another nice bonus is that they also can take your passport photo for an extra $15 bucks. I opted for this since we were able to re-take the photo if we didn't like it. This service is not limited to CSULB students and Alumni, but anyone who wanted to apply and/or renew their passport. I got my passport in the time our process person stated and happy with the results and process. I'll definitely will return here in 10 years (I hope the office will still be there) to renew. I got my passport about one week after coming here. There's a common theme in my reviews- I will pay extra to get things done quickly and efficiently. Took the photo, sent the application and did all the paperwork right on the spot. All I had to do was show up with my checkbook in tow. I had such a great experience here! And the best part is, you don't even have to be a student to use the services. Even though I have graduated, I will come back here to renew my passport years from now if I'm still in the area. You have to make an appointment, but this is super easy (you just call and set it up), and this ensures that you do not have to wait in a long line. When I set up my appointment, I was told exactly what I needed to bring, which made the whole experience stress free. When I arrived for my appointment, I did not have to wait at all, and I was done in record time. I could not believe how easy and fast it was compared to my first passport experience. I have been procrastinating on getting my passport... Finally the day has come where I need a passport and Yelpers gave this place 5 stars. I will say the service was friendly and I was in and out fairly quickly. All my questions were answered and I feel confident that everyone knew what they were doing. The reason they did not get a higher star rating from me is because I had to play phone tag for 3 days to schedule an appointment time, the appointment times were not very flexible (only had 1:30pm 3 days in a week) and this place is not exactly easy to find. Wow - we could not be more pleased. We actually started out trying to get our passports through the post office and gave up. The first day we tried, the clerk was out and it took them 4 hours to finally tell people that no one else could do the passports so they would have to close. The other post office only took appointments, no walk ins and we were there after the passport office closed at 1pm! So CSULB came through with an incredibly easy process, easy location to find, free parking and a wonderful clerk who walked us through the process, gave us excellent advice and had us out of there (two of us) in less than 20 minutes! Who knew? Cal State Long Beach has a US Passport Office. I tried to make an appt with the post office this week and was told no openings until mid May, basically six weeks out. I happened to stumble across a site that linked me with the US Passport office located in the career services building at Cal State. One of the best kept secrets. Made an appt for the next day. Had a choice of 6 open times. Did my paperwork online at home prior to going. Parked next to the building. I was 15 minutes early. The young lady took me immediately. Took photo and was done and out in 10 minutes! Apparently they've been there over three years. As we left she asked that we tell our friends and family. So if you want a hassle free passport process, give them a call. read more

Everyone was really helpful. I didn't make an appointment and I came to the office around 11:55 and signed in. I made a small mistake on the application and they let me redo it right then and there. This is our second visit to this passport office, again, out in 20 minutes and SMILING. So friendly, efficient, no crowd, CORRECT PROCESS and you even can get free parking just by stopping by the visitor booth at the entrance of the College, and they give you directions from there. Needed to renew my passport for a trip to Hong Kong and heard about this office from a friend. I would highly recommend going here if you need a passport. When I went I was the only person there and was in and out of the office in 10 min. Not only that but my passport arrived in just 2 weeks! I was dreading applying for my passport because of all of the stories about the long wait times and hard-to-get appointments at the post-office. I'm so happy I came to the Passport Application Office at CSULB! It's open to the public and is truly fast and easy--I filled out the application at the site, had my picture taken, presented my driver's license, the photo copy of my DL's front/back (I xeroxed ahead of time), and my birth certificate all in under 25 minutes. I arrived at 12:35 pm and was out before 1:00 pm. I was the only person there at the time. I had no appointment and was a walk-in. Parking is $1 for 30 minutes and $3 for an hour (I paid for an hour because I didn't know it would be so quick). You park in lot 17 across from Brotman hall and take the elevator to the second floor. The passport office is directly in front of the elevator. As of this review, it cost $110 for standard processing (6-8 weeks), $170 for expedited processing (2-3 weeks) and can only be paid with a check or money order. They take a passport photo for $15 and charge a $25 fee. You can pay the university fees with a debit or credit card. All-in-all, it was super painless and hassle free and I recommend the passport office at CSULB! read more

I needed to renew my passport after having changed my last name and get a new passport for my young daughter. After going to the Redondo Ave. post office in LB, and being told that I would have to be willing to wait for more than an hour probably a lot longer, I said no way! I got onto Yelp found the best reviews for this location and called them right away. I left message to make an appointment, they called me back the same day. I got an appointment within the same week. Got there right on time, no wait (maybe because my appointment was right after lunch). I was prepared with all my documents, I did my homework, and I was out of there in 30 minutes. Highly recommend this location for passport applications. TIP: because the location is inside the Cal State Long Beach campus it may be a little hard to find. Look it up before you go, parking is right next to the building, Brotman Hall, and bring cash or cc for parking fee. read more
