Once you finally get to the option for passports, it clearly states the information you need and states what you need to bring and you do NOT need an appointment. It did not give an option to speak with a live person. We made the drive to the post office to be met with an UNFRIENDLY short brown/red haired woman in a near empty post office with only 3 people in it. I had all of our documents filled out and printed organized with all of the documentation needed by person. She said we only do passports by appointment now. I explained that on the phone message it is not updated. She said it doesn't matter that is out policy now. She told us to drive to Mount Vernon post office or go to the Linn County Recorder's Office. We drove to the Linn County Recorder's Office to find they were closed due to weather....again. I then called Mount Vernon Post Office. They were very kind, but said it takes a long time to process passports, so they would like appointments. I gave up and decided to call Jones County Courthouse. They are ALWAYS kind and efficient with processes. So many people go there because they are tired of the inefficiencies and unfriendliness they are met with at the Linn County offices. I wish everything could be run by the Jones County Courthouse administration. I called them and was greeted by a kind and friendly woman who instructed me on how their process works and they would be happy to help us anytime before 4 Monday through Friday. They did not act as if this was an inconvenience , but as if they were there to do their jobs which they have pride in and help others with the processes that they are trained to do. Linn County has A LOT to learn. I am sure this will fall on deaf ears, but more people need to take their business to those who want the business. We have a choice and I choose for Jones County to have our money. Linn County has enough of it already and they obviously pay people that don't deserve it. If you need a passport, driver's license, permit, etc. Take your business to Jones County, they appreciate you.

Neither the North Liberty or the CA post office want to do anything concerning the theft that occurred. I am out sixty dollars but I have learned my lesson. Do not mail anything via USPS because they do not care if your items are stolen or never arrive and they do nothing to fix the situation. I was given the runaround and told to call the corporate headquarters and then told to call the local post office to no avail. The local post office said because a package was delivered on time, there's nothing that they can do about it. So unless you purchase their ridiculous insurance (as though I am supposed to somehow account or be responsible for the screw ups made by the post office), the package you send could in theory be opened, replaced and even though there is absolute conclusive evidence that shows that the package was tampered with, "there's nothing we can do about it," is the response you will get. Corporate told me that "they'd look into it." That's another way of saying don't call us anymore until we call you, if we call you at all. Popcorn doesn't grow heavier with time. I understand that you don't need a PhD to work at the post office but seriously, I ship out a 4 pound box, and the receiver receives a 10 pound box (he was there immediately to receive the package); let's see 10 pounds minus 4 pounds, after the intense algebraic formula calculation; it can be gathered that there is a 6 pound difference that happened between North Liberty and CA. I didn't get as much as an apology for my package being tampered with and stolen. Show some accountability or just be honest and warn your customers that their packages run the very probable risk that they will be tampered with and stolen, and that insurance in highly recommended.

We are planning an out of country vacay with my two kids. So, bring on the planning. First up-- Passports. I went on the USPS site, found out the deets on passports. Made a MANDATORY thirty minute in-person appointment. It sent me a confirmation and calendar invite, recommending arriving ten minutes early. We showed up on time and had to wait, 15 or so minutes. This normally wouldn't rub me the wrong way but kids in a post office during a busy time, ugh. So, what do you need to get a children's passport you may ask. Well... 1. Filled out form. 2. *Original* Birth Certificate 3. Photos (But they take them at this location!) 4. Proof of BOTH parent's citizenship. 5. Both parents to sign. 6. A check, one per passport needed. Honestly the staff was pleasant and knowledgeable. The facility was COVID cautious and had yellow dots on the floor encouraging distancing. While the location isn't very convenient for me (living on the west side) it is a newer, well laid out spot. I'm unsure the post office is ever a good time? This was just average... but hey! Some sandy beaches and sunshine are just on the horizon. Would definitely recommend getting a passport here, just avoid busier times of the day.
