I came here for the passport for my son. I searched many other places before finding this one. I shall say yes, other guys is correct this is a good place to apply a new passport. I went to milpitas USPS, and it's full before 6:00am. I went here when I was told I am the 41 in Milpitas USPS. I arrive here about 6:20AM, and I am No11. Thanks to the unofficial sheet to record the name and number. When staff begin to work they will record all the name and number according to the unofficial sheet. I was told I will be estimate to be processed around 12 O'clock. One thing to remember this site only accepts 20 applicants every day. I came back around 11:00AM, and I was told I can start the application. The people here is very nice and friendly. As I have every document and photo ready so it's very quick for the process. Not only are they closed from 12 to 1. They also get an attitude if anything interferes with lunch, like, God forbid, a customer! First they just point to a box, no direction or help. Then it starts: (International Mail) "You need a mailing address" * I guess it's not like UPS.... "You need a return address " * Well, you didn't tell me that until I wrote the mailing address. Now it barely fits.... "Now the label doesn't fit because you wrote the mailing and return address too large" So, now I say: "Well, if you were more helpful and just explained all this in the first place, we wouldn't be playing 20 questions, would we? Why can't you just explain the process instead of waiting for me to make a mistake?!?" Well.... That didn't go over very well at all, but at least I made her late for lunch!! read more

We went in today at 12:45 PM for my son's passport renewal and we were out by 1:15 PM. They are closed from 12 to 1 for lunch Service was very good and fast. There was only one more person after us This location is Walk in only service I carried DS 11 filled form, old passport, birth certificate and our ID along with photocopy of all the documents and a photo They accept Debit card for transaction and we went for Expedited option We are really glad about finding this place to get our passport renewal done read more

This is hands down the best USPS in the area! It's tucked into a quaint Alviso neighborhood. As of yesterday the sign on the side was missing and there's no sign at street front but rest assured the address on Yelp and in Google Maps is correct. The customer service front of the store is pretty small. It's also a little awkward that the door opens into it because if there's a line it's kind of hard to get in and out. If you're okay with cozying up to everyone else in line, this location can't be beat. I have never been greeted with a smile at any USPS and these ladies were so sweet and helpful. The lady that helped me handled my international parcel in no time. It was a wonderful experience. read more

Great little place in the middle of nowhere! After spending 10 minutes lost in Alviso,--even with my GPS--I finally found the driveway which led to the post office. Coming from First Street, Make a left on Gold Street and it is the first driveway on the left. It's sorta hidden, so keep your eyes pealed. The post office is very small (a portable) but with a good selection of mailing supplies. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I was sending a birthday gift to my friend and asked the lady at the counter for her recommendations. I kept going back and forth between different boxes and methods. And she helped select different sizes/styles of boxes and recommended what would be most affordable and which would arrive the fastest. 5 stars for great customer service! read more

My natural reaction to going to a US Post Office usually goes like this: cringe twitch frown grumble sigh pout However, this particular post office doesn't illicit any reaction at all. It serves its functional purpose efficiently and painlessly. What is going on with the Alviso Post Office? The customer service is great when the Post Master is there but the other lady is rude, short and not very informative. I'm a Alviso Resident for 30+ years & never experienced anything like this! She thinks everything has to be by the BOOK, no leniency at all. Plus, I've have gone there several times and people are not wearing MASKS and inside they have 4 or 5 people waiting. HELLO?....were in a pandemic crisis! There should NOT be that many people in that small box at this time! I do NOT like the way she talks to people...(very demeaning) and have heard from other Alviso Residents that she doesn't respect them. My next visit, I hope I see the Postmaster there so I can express my concerns. We need to be more KIND to one another during this crisis and she definitely is NOT and TRUTHFULLY she wasn't before EITHER. It's obvious she DOESN"T like her job. The Alviso post office is kinda stealth. Drive down Gold Street, past all the techie buildings, go over the bridge and down the hill, and look for the chain link fence just after the fire station on the right. The post office itself is set back from the street in a kind of semipermanent trailer-type building. It's small, and it's in Alviso, and no one knows about it, because everyone goes to the one on Lafayette. This means there is rarely a line here. Shh, don't tell anyone else! Every so often I buy large amounts of stamps here for work, and they're always really grateful for the business. Go give them some more business -- support your local stealth post office! read more

Came to this post office twice while visiting the Bay Area. The first time was great, the lady that helped me was super nice and friendly (I regret not catching her name). The second time, I had a different lady helping me and she was rude. I came to drop off some pre-paid packages and she said I needed to have some form printed out so when she scans it, it'll only take one scan so she won't need to do scan it one by one. Then she notices that my zip code was different, I admit, I was out of town and had to mail these packages in, so I apologized for that mistake. She said if it's not in their zip code, they won't get the credit, but she was nice enough to accept the packages and reminded me next time to change the zip code. So I kept thanking and apologizing for this mistake, but as I was handing her the packages, she kept shaking her head at me. Actions speak louder than words and from that moment, I knew it'll be the last time I set foot in this place. read more

I needed some USPS boxes for work.. and the place my boss typically goes to it an authorized USPS seller (?--is that what you call them?)... so I looked up the closest actual post office to me.. and this one came up... Now.. I've only driven by Alviso once before.. and thought this area is kind of shady... BUT this post office is super close to a lot of businesses.. plenty of parking---mostly because there's not many people here!... They were also fully stocked with everything I needed (I didn't have to ask the people behind the counter.. like at other post offices I've been to)... The woman that came out to asked me if I needed anything was also super friendly about it (I've been to a post office before where a lady was super rude.. and made me wait... when the stuff I needed was right behind her.. I was lucky enough that another associate saw & heard what I needed & when she noticed that the first lady wasn't helping me, she ran and grabbed it for me right after she finished with her customer). I would definitely come back here when I'm being sent to do our USPS needs. read more

Came here for passport processing for my kid. From all the reviews it seemed like the majority of people tried to line up in the morning, so I gambled and came on a Wednesday afternoon. Got there at 12:40 and I was first in line. In and out in 5 minutes. When I left there were only two others waiting for passport processing. My recommendation is to come in the afternoon instead of the morning, seems to be less people around that time. read more

Super easy to get a passport here if you are prepared! Like other reviews said, they do not do appointments, just day to day sign ups, starting at 9. I got there around 8:20 am to get in line to sign the sheet when the post office opens at 9 am. I was the second one in line, but no one else came until 9 am. I would highly suggest getting there at least 20 mins before 9, because a flurry of people came at 9 so there was quite a line to even sign the paper. After that, I just sat in my car until 10 am when passport appointments start. I got called right away. They took my photo and all my paperwork within 10 mins, and I was out of there. I would have a copy of your birth certificate and photo ID ready to go, as well as the originals. read more

Applied for our son's passport here. People start lining up from 8am. The passport office opens at 10am. They stopped taking photos now so go in with your passport size photo. Also there is no token system. People form lines and remember their numbers. I went in at 8am and by 10am we had like 7 people in line. Each person does not take more than 5 to 10 mins when they go in. read more

Went to apply for a passport. Arrived, there were a couple of people hanging out outside. Went inside, the lady was helping someone, asked me what I came for. She said I had to wait outside and they'll call you in. There is no numbering system. No marked queue. A lady outside said she'd been waiting 45 minutes already, and that they bump you for every person coming in to ship a package and such. Now I actually read in the comments they don't take pictures anymore? This is not posted anywhere and the USPS website says they do it... If this is true that'd be terrible, standing in line forever to find out they can't help you because you should have brought a picture. FYI for everyone who is looking to get their passport done.. they are currently short on staffing and do not have anyone to submit passport applications. I rated it a 2 star because I was not informed in advance and waited outside til it opened. Had I known I would have made arrangements to go to another post office... Go to the post office on abel street in milpitas. They accept walk ins. Make sure to come early .. they open at 915 til 215 and only accept 40 passport submissions. I'm number 25! 2 hour wait... Thank you Yelp, for all your useful info! As a token of gratitude, I am here to share my experience today, getting passport renewal for my son. There were three people there at 5:30. By 7:30 the unofficial sign in sheet of 20 people was filled up. You will likely get a spot if you arrive before 7:30. We sign in the official sign in sheet by 9:00. Passport renewal process starts at 10:00. We were done in 5 minutes. Only few places take walk in. Alviso is probably one of the easiest one to get into in the south Bay Area, followed by Robertsville (near Hwy 85 and 87). Milpitas and Eastridge and Willow Glen probably have longer lines. Nice thing about Alviso is you are waiting indoor, not in the cold weather. Nearest bathroom is probably Target or Starbucks nearby. Do your homework, wait in line, GOOD LUCK!! read more

The Alviso post office is a MUCH better place to go for passport renewed vs the post office in Milpitas. The line is not as bad at Alviso but you'll still have to wait. I went to the Milpitas location with literally about 70 people in line & they haven't opened yet. Drove to Alviso which is walk in only, there's still a line (possibly people from Milpitas coz they only take 40 ppl) I was about the 15th person in line, but service is SO much better than Milpitas location. read more

they lost my package after it arrived at the post office left my info and they didn't even bother to let me know they stopped looking. new postal workers are lazy and need to be held accountable for lost mail. my question is how do you loose the package once it gets there? i mean really! this place is mainly for passports not for alviso residents to pick up mail. read more

Was there for passport renewal for minors. Went there yesterday,Friday around 5:45 am and was 6th and 7th for two renewals. My turn came around 9:45.( I called my husband to bring in the kids as soon as I signed in). We were out by 10:10. You just wait in line till the post office opens and they bring the sign sheet to sign. Apparently, the lady who processes the passport service had to leave at noon that day and only 12 were taken.( We got that info from a guy who had called in a day before). So best to call in a day prior to check how many applicants they will be taking next day. By 7.00am 12 spots filled and those who came after had to go. You will be called as per your spot and if you have papers/copies/picture ready,then it wouldn't take more than 10mins. Check/Cash or debit card only. I could say that this place is way better than the others wherein there are already 40 in line even at 6:00am read more

After calling all neighboring post offices and finding everyone of them can only give me a passport renewal Appt in 2-4 weeks, it was wonderful to walk in to a practically empty post office at Alviso, with an extremely helpful employee who got us through the process in 10 mins flat! my temp change of address start Nov 2013 to May 2014. Ever since the temp forward started, all my regular mail are arrived 30+ days late. I'm not happy but I have to accept the fact. However, I received a phone call today that someone send me a letter got bounce back! I suppose to receive this mail on the 1st and now got return to sender! Went to get our kids passports since this is where we got ours. Checked the website and all seemed good, until we got there and saw the sign on the door. No biggie as, well, it happens! My husband went in to ask if they had a recommendation for where else we could go. The woman working on a Friday afternoon snapped at him and when he explained that he saw the sign and was just wondering if she knew where else to go, she snapped in a trashy tone "Google.com". Wow! Glad to see a government employee behaving poorly at her place of work. Good news is we have no need to frequent that place again and have warned all of our friends against using that place if they ever have enough staff to bring back passports. read more

Came in today to get a passport and upon entering the lady asks me in a rude tone "Are you even 18 years or older?"I reply with yes I am (otherwise I wouldn't be going to the post office without my parents to get a passport??) Later on im signing the form she reviews it just to tell me "You need to have a better signature" with the most attitude ever. I hear a chuckle from behind from 3 people waiting there as well so at this point I feel embarrassed. After all a signature is a signature so this comment was new to me, she then explains to me that my signature needs to match the one on my ID, I tell her that was my signature when I was 17. She replies with "Hopefully they accept your application" This has me confused that they wouldn't accept it considering that they have 4 different forms of identification that a signature should be the least to matter. She did a horrible job explaining absolutely anything and made me feel less than, not sure why her Monday morning was already off to a bad start at 10am that she decided to take it out on me. Hi guys, I never spent time on yelp to write a review, but today i really have take a moment to write this reviews. As you all know, renew passport for your kids is not an easy task. I called around local posted Office. To schedule for my kid passport, but all Posted Office booked until end of April or begin of May. But our Vacation is in June 11. Renew passport, it's takes 6 to 8 week lead time which is not enough time for us to renew passport. even expedite, unless you have to be in line early in the morning. ( i mean like wait in line 2:30 a.m morning) it's crazy. At work, one of my co-worker said; he just renew passport for his kid at this Post Office 1525 gold st, Alviso, go there, no need to be waiting in line like 2:30 A.M. In the morning. So, my wife and i with the kid give it a try. We drive to it and walk in, we met 2 ladies, first lady was asian lady which i forgot to ask for named. The other lady was Karen. She is very nice and polite. She offer to renew our kid passport even though the hour for passport are close. I never forget this moment. Once again, THANK YOU KAREN. God Bless. read more

Why can't we not give ZERO stars? Came here today, slowest service I have ever seen. Yes, one woman behind the counter, each person that walks up is sure to hear about her poor back pain, why she keeps running away to answer her cell (She was waiting on her doctor to call) And we had to hear about her son a million times. Every person that walks up has to hear of 1. her back pain 2. why she runs to her cell when it rings and 3. Her son possibly getting into Valley Christian. Don't really care. Lines were building up, but it doesn't phase her. Wow, came here because my mom said she received great service, but she never met Mrs. Life Story. I'm sure some people appreciate listening to her ramble on, not I. I was in a rush and we couldn't even get done what we needed to be done. Alviso residents are required to have a PO box since there is no mail delivery to our homes. That used to mean a pleasant daily visit to the quiet little Post Office in town. Word has gotten out that this is one of the few places you can do your passport paperwork without an appointment. Now there's a long line of grumpy people who showed up expecting immediate service but have been waiting for hours. This is especially frustrating for residents who end up waiting in line *every single day* to pick up or drop off packages. As others have noted, the office is closed from 12-1 5 stars for the incredibly patient and friendly staff! 1 star for the dirty looks from passport people given to Alviso residents just trying to get their daily mail. read more
