I will usually do everything that I can to avoid having to go to any post office and this one is no exception. If you have to go, avoid Saturdays, which again, I find myself breaking my rule as I stand on an epic line. In terms of services, this one is a small one so not a lot of supplies here. There is a self serve vending machine that sells stamps and accepts payments if you have a PO box. There are four manned windows behind plexiglass that move at a decent pace but the demand is high and they have to deal with customers that are often ill prepared when they get to the window. I applaud their patience. A sign at each window begs beloved customers to finish their calls before getting to the window. Obvious but unfortunately necessary. Again I applaud the attempt at trying to assist us in moving things along as fast as possible. This raised my rating from a 2 star to a 3 star. When I started this review, I had to hold the door open because the line was literally out the door. Time flies while you write reviews and I find myself now at the front of the line. In an effort to ensure I am not one of the annoying customers that hold everything up needlessly while still on the phone shuffling through pockets for ID at the last minute, I will heed their advice and sign off. read more

I challenge anyone to find a group of workers that are lazier and more incompetent than the ones that work at this post office. We all make mistakes, Client contacts us not getting her item, I asked to speak to new manager - lady with attitude said she 'gives' them to a random UPS truck. No receipt, no name. Ah yes the Post Office........... 1. Long lines. 2. Hot. 3. Kids running around. 4. Understaffed. 5. Non motivated employees. 6. Customers who do not know what they are doing. 7. Rude customers. 8. Customers who take things out on employees. I could go on and on. This location handles tens of thousands of pieces of mail a day. I do a fair amount of business on eBay so I am here once or twice a week. I found the staff to be efficient and management to be helpful. There has to be a balance of staffing levels with relationship to the number of customers walking in. They do a good job at this. Yes there are long lines, but this is to be expected. Tell me what government agency does not have long lines. This is the price one has to pay to do business here. Sending packages is a time consuming process if you go economy shipping. Most people here are mailing packages or letters overseas. Most of the time the customer has the wrong type of box, has the item packaged wrong, the package looks like it is falling apart, etc., etc. Additionally, people here want to send a package, but do not bring the tools needed to do the job. No tape, pen, filler, etc., etc. I have found the employees to be helpful and demonstrate a great deal of patience. I usually come with 3 to 7 items to be shipped worldwide. My process can take a few minutes or it could be 10 plus minutes. I have always felt that service was good, quick and efficient. My only comment of opportunity is to have a vending machine that sells stamps. A big plus is that it is located within a parking lot. read more

Yes, some of the staff here are nice, even helpful. But I am appalled by their package delivery record. So many times I've had to walk the half mile to 2117 Broadway with an email from Amazon saying that my package had been delivered to my building, when it hadn't been, and the driver didn't even leave a slip! Sometimes the post office staff can find the package when I get there. But many times, they have simply lost the package. Sometimes they claim to have been unable to gain access to my building, but I know that can't possibly be true, because I am home all day, every day, with a young baby. Once they admitted that they may have delivered the package a block over instead. I would say at this point I am getting my packages 70% of the time, and 30% of my packages are outright lost. A manager there admitted on the phone to me that they have a problem there with packages being delivered to the wrong addresses, but seems they haven't fired their incompetent driver(s). It's weird, but I thought THE MAIN JOB OF THE POST OFFICE IS TO DELIVER PACKAGES TO THE CORRECT ADDRESS!!!! It is beyond frustrating. And good luck getting them to pick up the phone. There's 5 bags of mail sitting in my lobby 3 of those bags have been there for 4 days. This is ridiculous that people waiting for important mail / checks / bills have to subjected to this postal inconvenience when I brought it up today they said the workers were calling out sick. So send another worker (SERIOUSLY) whatever happened to through rain / storms / thunder / blah blah blah the mail will be delivered. Lets see -rent checks to my landlord, who lives just one avenue away, were returned, maimed beyond recognition. The previous month he never recieved them at all -check from grandmother was returned to said grandmother, saying "no such address." Went to post office with grandmother's check as well as other mail she had sent me in the past - the envelopes addresses were idential. What did the clerk say? "Your grandmother needs to writ better". SHE IS FRAKKING 92 YEARS OLD YOU IGNORANT BOORS. -had a family member mail me a piece of medical equipment from Florida. They paid $20 to mail it. The letter carrier LEFT IT OUTSIDE MY BUILDING and by the time i got home, it was destroyed from water damage. (There is a door to my building, you know. it has a big handle that you grab and PULL and HEY YOU CAN GO INSIDE ZOMG) -at least 6 packages from Amazon that ive ordered never arrived. just -- never arrived. This location has terrible hours (doesn't open officially until 10am - very inconvenient - evidenced by the line that forms outside waiting for the doors to open - frequently AFTER 10am), is dirty, understaffed at all hours of the day, disorganized, and worst: they are so rude! (I'm sure they're sick of unhappy customers, but we're the aggrieved here!) The manager, Ricardo Perpadoro (this is likely misspelled - I had him write it down for me so I could complain to USPS and it's scrawled and illegible), is astonishingly rude and unhelpful. Dear USPS: I never imagined in a million years of my existence that I would be writing this horrible review. I regret to inform you that as much as I love the postmaster assigned to our office (he's a lovely man and grandpa), you left me with no choice. For the past days, I have been tracking a package from Amazon. My confirmation said delivery is between October 7th through October 15th. Last night, just out of curiosity, I tracked the package and was surprised to learn that the package was marked "Delivered Oct. 15th" at 1:38 pm. First thing I did today was to contract my local post office. The woman I spoke to was not very helpful at first. She told me things that I already knew (reading it basically from the tracking information). I explained to her that I only received regular mail and no package was ever left at my door. She briefly placed me on hold because she had to check the "geolocation". She came back on the phone and said "Ma'am it seems like your package was delivered to ___ 3_th Street". NOT MY ADDRESS! Since the house is actually 2 blocks away from me, I asked her if I am supposed to retrieve it. She told me not to do that and she will advise the postmaster to pick up the package but she cannot guarantee that he will be able to retrieve it. At this moment, I have to assume that the package is lost. I am now left with no choice but to contact the seller and hopefully I can either get a replacement or a refund. I usually don't leave Yelp reviews but this place is SO HORRIBLE I'm compelled. Had two packages "delivered" via USPS (originally routed from UPS Surepost and FedEx Smartpost) while I was at work on Friday. One was completely stolen, no trace of it, and the other one had been ripped open and was left empty at my apartment door when I got home. I thought, well maybe it was a neighbor in my building or someone off the street who snuck into the building and stole it. But I talked to my neighbors and we wrote a note for the lobby, directing delivery people to PLEASE ring the bell, then leave a slip if we're not home. Today I was home sick from work, and suddenly heard someone trying to open my apartment door with a key. No joke. I thought it was my landlord. Then they stopped, dropped something heavy at my door, and through the peephole I saw a man leaving. And bam, there's another package at the door. Not ripped open, thankfully. But dude never rang my bell, never knocked on my door, apparently even tried to break in, unless I'm really delusional and was hearing things (you never know). Once again, it was UPS Surepost, delivered through Broadway USPS. Not the same guy as my regular mailman, either, because he came an hour earlier. I called a million numbers to file a complaint, and finally a nice man at the LIC post office gave me two numbers to call and report this, because he warned that no one ever gets through when calling the main number. I called both these numbers but the first was disconnected and the second one (manager) picked up, but then immediately slammed the receiver down before I even said hello. Needless to say, I am never ever shipping a package to my home address again. Worst post office service ever. I constantly get notifications from shippers that packages have been returned to them for non-delivery. My postal peson NEVER leaves a missed slip notification. If I ever forget to check on a tracking id (if there is one) there's a really good chance I'll never see my package. They also constantly leave my mail boxes unlocked. AWFUL. Edit: Another poster put up the direct contact phone numbers, which I used to complain about our boxes being left unlocked for days at a time. I'm sure anyone who has read any of the reviews for this particular post office have seen that most people are not happy with their experiences. Well, I'm here to join in on that opinion. What we have here in Astoria is a truly incompetent and uncaring post office. Now, I understand that USPS has never been renowned for their fantastic performance and customer service, but I feel like this location is a truly outstanding example. I have been trying to get a package delivered to my house from China for close to a month. After organizing about 5 redelivery attempts, lodging complaints with the USPS customer service line, and speaking to probably 10 different representatives to figure out what was going on, I was finally able to go to the location in person. I was then told that they could not find my package, because it may still be on the delivery truck. I was given a number to call to verify whether or not my package had been returned to the office. When I called, I discovered it was a non-working number. I now need to find another time to go back before these idiots send my package back to China, which needless to say, would be EXTREMELY inconvenient. Bottom Line? Use Fedex. read more

Look, I know everyone has there own personal post office they claim is the worst, but this one is seriously ridiculous. There is always a line out the door, and the staff are about as slow as it gets. That said, some of them are nice, others not so much, but there just seems to be an overall lack of motivation to make the experience not horrible. Perhaps a management problem? At one time there was a separate line for package pick-ups, but that has since gone the way of the dodo. So instead of one staff member grabbing a bunch of pick up slips, making one trip to pick them up, and then dealing them out, you're stuck waiting while each worker slowly meanders to the back, hangs out for a few minutes, and finally comes back with a small package. The best thing about this location Is that they have an automated machine for domestic shipments. I run a shop on Etsy so I find myself at this Post Office a LOT (yes, I'm the duchess...I don't think that's a good thing). As long a I'm just shipping domestically, I'm golden. I breeze in, go to the Auotmated machine which no one else ever uses and am on my way. But if I have to send something big or send something overseas...I'm scared. The line is always long but the manager is getting better at customer service (it used to be a LOT worse at this particular location). Now that I am home during the day I've noticed that 10-11am is actually one of the worst times to go. So now I go around lunchtime, which is the time I used to think would be worst to go. Like any Post Office, the employees are slow, they won't call the next person down right away and they will sometimes just leave their windows with no explanation. Ah well. I would give this place a zero if I could. This is the worst service I've received it any post office in memory. I waited in line with five people in front of me for almost 30 minutes. By the time I got to the counter I had heard them say the same thing over and over, "We can't do that." What they couldn't do was sell people stamps, provide flat rate boxes and envelopes, mail things, or help them to find out why they couldn't do any of the above. If you can't do any of those things, then how can you call yourself a post office? I understand that there are budget cuts, but how do you expect to make any money if you don't provide any services. If the postal service pays attention at all (which they most likely don't) they should probably just close this place until they can get stamps, shipping materials, and postal workers capable of mailing things. So, I went there, stood in line for 45 minutes, just to get to the front and have them tell me they don't have my package. When I asked when I could come get it, the woman advised me to come back tomorrow because she "thinks" it will be there. I wish you could give an option for zero stars because that is what they deserve. There have been so many problems with this post office over the years I don't even know where to start. Packages not being delivered even though I have a notification of times and dates saying they left the package. Packages going missing even though they had all the information needed to deliver them on tje boxes, I have no doubt that certain packages are being stolen by the workers when they see certain company names on tje boxes.. Letters that we have delivery notification photos of never being delivered and the workers claiming they have no idea what happened, the so called supervisors don't care and never get back to people and just keep saying "contact the sender" well the sender did thier part by addressing the letters and paying postage, how about you do your part by actually delivering the mail. We haven't had a consistent mail carrier in years, after our regular person and many others retired this location has gone way downhill. She angrily told him that "its common sense!!" and went to the back, leaving him standing. The customers in line helped him. I'm so fed up with this place. The woman working it is moving at a glacial pace, pausing to chat and getting up frequently. I can hear 2 or 3 employees laughing in the back. Now no one is at the window. This post office sucks major ass. I went this afternoon after finding out they have been holding my package hostage since 3/10. How did I find you ask, I tracked the package. I was told the carrier attempted to deliver the package but no one was home. Which is complete B.S. and no notice was left to indicate the carrier attempted to deliver. I tried calling several times but of course no one picks up the damn phone. So I decided to work on over since it's only a few blocks from my house. There was a short line waiting for people to pick up packages. So while standing on line I decided to call even though I was physically there. Reviewing again. They would get negative stars if possible. I've waited 2 entire days in my apartment for a package. I signed up for the email alerts so I (theoretically) knew where my package was during each step of the way. Much to my surprise, I get an automated email from USPS tonight at 5:06pm telling me a notice was left because they attempted to deliver but I was not there. Wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong. (And this is not the first, nor second, nor third, etc time this has happened. I wouldn't complain/review unless it were habitual) I immediately run down to my mailbox and find no notice. I wait 10 minutes and go back down just to make sure. No notice, no package. Online and in the email it says I may pick my package up at the post office. This was especially annoying because I LEFT A NOTE AT THE DOOR ASKING THEM TO JUST SIMPLY LEAVE THE PACKAGE EVEN IF I DID NOT ANSWER. So it's very clear that they never even stopped at my building because the note was still there, I never received a buzz, and they left no notice. I've lived here for 9 months. I mean this literally when I say- not ONE TIME has this post office delivered a package without issues. Not once. NOT ONCE. And you cannot call them during the day to inquire or talk to a manager because they leave the phone off the hook during business hours (this is entirely true. Try calling them between 10am and 5pm. You'll get a busy signal. I've stood at the counter and called the post office and showed the woman and asked "Who is using the phone" and she refused to answer). Every time it's the same thing with this place. I even actively try to avoid using USPS when I order online, asking companies who they use to ship. But this most recent package was supposed to be Fed Ex, but they tender it to this damn, awful, inept post office for the final stretch. The package is 6 blocks from my house for 3 days! An earlier reviewer hit it on on the head- Why am I doing THEIR JOB to go retrieve my packages? You know, my experience here wasn't all that terrible! They were lacking though in the basic supplies you would find at a post office (envelopes, labels, etc) that you can normally use, as well as no pens to be found! Instead of using a nifty USPS Priority label, I ghetto-ed it and had to write on the package with a ballpoint pen I (thankfully) had. But other than that, the line went fairly quickly (there were about 3 workers at the windows!), and the person who helped me was super efficient! I was in and out within 10 or so minutes (with about 8 people ahead of me in line). read more
