I really want to like this place as it's my neighborhood location but I've generally found the employees to be less than helpful. Today I had to mail a long package. Since it wouldn't fit in the carousel of the bullet proof glass, they wouldn't accept it even though I had already prepaid the postage. The postal worker said it was a safety issue even know it was shortly after 9am on a weekday. She was completely unwilling to do anything to help. I've heard about this post office for years. A lot of the time since the pandemic it never has been opened. But was nearby in the morning, it was open to drop a few packages pre paid etc. Even dropping off the person running the desk looked they were in hell. Nobody around. Everything was empty. Just on the phoned waiting for the end of day. Said hello/goodbye and got the "uh huh whatever" from the postal worker. It felt like I was in western of dying part of town. I was so scared entering this place because it looks abandoned. There was no cars in the parking lot. I actually walked in without the packages that I needed to ship just in case the place was closed down but to my surprise it's a fully working post office and the lady at the counter was more than helpful. They're trying but the struggle continues! The clerks are very nice, and I don't blame them, I blame the system/administration. They're always out of something you need. An envelope this size, wrapping tape, first class shipping form, pen etc. Also check their website before coming. They have odd hours and are completely closed during certain lunch hours. read more

Firstly, the associate was in the back on her phone when I walked in and had to wait 4 minutes before she finished. This place is fine...it's okay. I just really really appreciate the parking lot! I can park and then walk only a few steps. So convenient. therefore, 3 stars! About this post office: -really small -- look at my picture. (But if you go at a good time, it won't be cramped, so that wouldn't even matter.) -I went around 3pm on a Tuesday and I only waited around ten minutes. Versus Downtown Berkeley post office, where I always had to wait more than 30 minutes FOR SURE. BUT...downtown Berkeley one is also bigger, and the employees seem nicer and happier too. And way more helpful. North Berkeley one too. So you gotta pick...customer service or speed? -they have two windows but only one was accepting packages..slowed things down a little. -the lady was only semi-helpful...she was pretty much just mostly impatient. But hey, it's a post office...that's usually the case. I like that this post office is so close to me and that there's a parking lot...but also that it's WAY less crowded than other Berkeley post offices. Yes, the atmosphere here is the dingiest in comparison to the North Berkeley and Downtown Berkeley ones, but it's also the fastest too (bc of the # of ppl, not the employee speed...) so that's good enough for me! read more

Small and a bit depressing, this post office location needs some TLC. I can't comment on the staff as there was no one working when I showed up at 1:30pm on a weekday -- very strange. I actually missed the location once because it isn't that well-signed. On the plus side, there is a lot of (free) parking. read more

I had such a great experience with Vicky! She was so helpful multiple times each time I went to shop something. She was patient friendly and extremely Efficient. This is by far the most ghetto post offices in Berkeley. There are always three things here: (1) A huge line (2) People cashing their SSI checks holding up the line (3) A big fat nasty lady that works behind the counter that never responds unless totally required. At first I was happy that when I found out that I live across the street from a post office. Too bad my packages don't end up here and instead I've got to head all the way to the main post office in downtown Berkeley. It's also too bad that this post office isn't open on Saturdays and that since there is usually only one person working here at a time, it closes in the middle of the day for lunch breaks. Only one person working means that lines form fast here. And once a line is formed you're going to have to wait a long time to be served. When you finally are served you are going to have to put your packages into a rotating door of plexi-glass as if you are a prisoner. This place is just depressing. (With that said, the postal clerk I've dealt with has always been extremely nice. Still, everything else just makes this the post office to avoid.) read more

This is by far the worst post office that I have been to. I know yelp review for post office sounds a bit ridiculous but I like to let people know that they should avoid this branch by all costs. The young Africa American lady that works there once told me she can't mail my box because it was 10 lbs and it was over her "personal limit" to lift !!! My options were to leave and come back when someone else was on duty or go another post office . Another time I got there and lady was just gone !!! Nobody at the counter and line of people just standing there ! When I asked , I was told lady was taking a 15-20 min break !!!! And no one else was there !!! No respect for clients ! No wonder usps is losing money !! I always try to use usps for personal and business related matters (instead of ups or fedex) but this particular location always fails me! Yolanda, who works at this post office, is incredibly friendly and likes to make a personal connection with everyone who comes into the post office. She told me once that her mom also worked for the postal service, and it shows that she cares about her job. She knows and remembers peopole who come in regularly. It makes me feel like I'm back in a small town, like where I grew up. Yolanda's's even amusing when she gives you your stamp options, and doesn't pressure you to choose faster. I'm sad that they got rid of the bike rack out front. And yes, it can take a while if there's a line, but to me that personal touch is worth it. read more

Everytime I come here VICKY is on lunch, when they first open she's on lunch for like 2hrs, mid day same thing, when they're close to closing.... On lunch. If you don't want to do your job why are you there??? Her English sucks and she's a high class idiot. Yesterday was the last straw for me. I dropped a box off with priority mail shipping. I asked her for the FREE receipt with tracking that it comes with and she kept trying to make me buy proof of mailing. I read her what the sign says and she still didn't understand and tried to charge me. How are you that slow working for the post office? Just How?? I need answers. I hate this post office. I used to live nearby so I've been there many times and they are either not there when they say they are open or say that they do not have enough staff to accept a heavy box that is under their a 70 pound weight limit. There is no actual mailbox outside so you cannot mail anything if the post office is closed even if it is already stamped. I now drive farther whenever I need to go to the post office because this place is constantly disappoints. read more

I have used this post office twice in the last 6 months. Both times I had a simple question about the right packaging and needed a pen to write the address. Both times the woman behind the counter (different each time) yelled at me for not having it written before I got to the window, even though that is the ONLY place they have pens, and treated me like I must be the dumbest person on the planet for not knowing the answer to my question! This tiny post office is one of the plexiglass-bound ones which have the giant automat-like contraptions to pass packages to the clerks. I'd hate to say this about our men and women in civil service, but the people at this branch have been slow, unhelpful, and sometimes downright hostile. It just seems like there is a bunch of Newman-types working here. Maybe this is where they transfer all the "problem" clerks or ones who are extra down on society. The clerks have hurriedly tried to close up shop when my friends tried to show up with mail bins of packages to drop off around, but not after, 5pm. The hours are a lie. This place actually closes at 4:20pm so that the only employee can get her lunch break. I just went in and even though a sign says open until 5:00pm there she said no they are closed and won't reopen today. So it doesn't matter why they are closed, if you close for lunch before 5pm then you are still CLOSED, so you need to update your hours to reflect that because the current hours are very misleading. She said she made an announcement 5 min before I walked in...umm why don't you just update your hours to reflect the truth because giving announcements in an empty post office where nobody can hear you doesn't count read more

I hope they keep this post office because of its great location, but I hope they fire the rude lady and keep the nice one. I've only met the rude one, and she wouldn't respond when I asked if they had labels or tape. I thought she didn't hear me because of the super thick glass wall that is between you and the clerks, but I think she probably did because she was giving me this passive-aggressive attitude. Anyone who goes in, be forewarned that they do not have any tape or labels for you, like other post offices do. Their credit card/ debit machine was out when I went there. You may also have to knock on the glass to get someone to come over and help you. There wasn't even a service bell. Just have your package ready, and bring cash!! read more
