I think that this is a great post office. Of course it gets busy around lunch time but what post office doesn't? They are always great about helping me figure out the least expensive way to send stuff and offer alternatives to things like Delivery Confirmation. read more

This post office is often out of stamps. Front counter needs to get an upbeat service attitude. A bit friendlier, please! I wanted to send a box. It was tapped with clear tape and duct. "NO DUCT TAPED boxes at the US post office !!!", You need to do this and this......" Thanks but no thanks, I went to the UPS store down the street and got my package on the way with a smile from the person behind the counter. Nice! Consumers do have Choices. These experiences with the post office lead me to the conclusion that It may be a good idea to privatize the Front office of the Postal service. read more

A pretty good USPS location in the Elmwood area. I go here regularly to buy stamps and ship packages. I like buying stamps here (instead of other Post Offices) because they have a glass case near the clerk's counter displaying the stamps they have in stock. When they run out of a certain stamp, they remove it from the glass case. If you're the type of person that likes a particular stamp (because maybe you like to keep using the professional flag stamps you used for years, you like your envelopes with a theme or you just enjoy certain illustrations/images etc), this is really convenient because you don't have to stand in line and wait to see if they have the stamp you want. You can just easily glance at the case and see if it's there or not, which is something you can't do at most Post Offices (where you have to stand in line and wait until you're at the window just to ask a clerk for what stamps they have). I'm not sure why more Post Offices don't have displays showing their current supply of stamps, but more Post Offices should do this. But they only display the regular Forever Stamps in the case, other types of stamps (like postcard stamps and others) aren't displayed, but they usually have them. I send a lot of postcards and have to wait in line to see if it's in stock or not. I really wish they had a self-service kiosk here, it would help so much during rush times. I would love to just be able to weigh my package myself and pay for the shipping and drop it in a box (like the self-service kiosk in the Downtown Berkeley Post Office). But still, I love my local Post Office. The staff here are top-notch and probably the friendliest I have seen at any Post Office and they work hard sorting all the mail and packages. I will definitely keep going here for my mailing and shipping needs. read more

Slow and inefficient, oh wait, it's the USPS. This branch is especially bad though, so make sure you're prepared for slow and inefficient. The minute you enter the property, you'll notice there's very little parking. That's because the staff parks in front, perhaps to discourage business. Further complicating parking availability, they don't enforce the posted restrictions, so shoppers use the lot. Inside, you will usually find 1, maybe 2, staff at the counter. Lines can be long and service slow, so be prepared to wait. read more

I went to this office on a Monday at 1:30 to pick up my mail (I had delivery on hold while I was on vacation). There were 20 numbers ahead of me, and after half an hour was still 10 people behind. It was hilarious watching people walk in, see how many people were ahead of them, and curse while they leave. One lady yelled "screw you I'm going to the UPS store!!" While waiting I was even able to go to Gordo's and eat a whole burrito. When I came back I was still 5th in line. When it was my turn, they clerk says "oh, you don't have to wait in line to pick up your held mail." I hate my life. read more

This is a great post office. In the US we love knocking on our postal system, but let's be clear - it is a great public entity and public good, and is about is good as it gets. Where else can one be assured that a piece of mail travel safely for so little ... plus those blessed flat rate boxes? awesome. Working in one of these places is far from ideal - don't be all wacky and berkeley on these workers (I've seen it at this location multiple times. lady with about 50 lbs of chocolate bars being mailed to nepal, trying to figure out which flat rate box is the best for their safe travel). just be kind to these individuals - they are real troopers (in my eyes). read more

The counter staff are great- but the hold mail service is spotty at best- consistently at least one very important piece of mail gets delivered many days after the hold mail stops, usually bills (privacy risks) & they appear to have lost a bill & tax document from my bank this most recent hold mail. I called & reported it & the person who answered assured me they would deliver it that day. NADA.... I called back today & while the fellow was very nice, there is zero level of concern expressed or demonstrated by the nature of their apparent repeated foul ups. I rarely post on Yelp but this is serious- don't let them deliver- my recommendation: indicate on the hold mail page that you will go pick it up after your hold mail period is over- they are cavalier with privacy at best, negligent in my experience. read more

This is my favorite Post Office. It's not young and fresh, it's not UPS, it's just the best local post office, and the guy at the counter is the best Postal Officer I have ever had. The long lines are inevitable when you only have one officer to provide 100% customer service to each person. The manager there (indian dude) is also very helpful and he won't hesitate to go to the back and find your package. My only complaints are of the postal system, not this branch, and that the actual mail carriers that come to my house always forget to leave the package notice when I get packages from overseas. read more

This place is absolutely Kafkaesque. Now I understand why people "go postal." On a Saturday morning, the wait must be 45-60 minutes - I don't know, because I left long before my number came up. And that was to buy ONE STAMP! They used to have a stamp-vending machine, but they took it out, so everyone has to wait for the ONE clerk who is slow and does not seem to know what she is doing. I have been to better post offices, so I know that the system can work. Does anyone from USPS read these reviews? Do they care? Why is there consistently only one person working and a huge line each time? Essentially saying don't value our customers time. Minimum 30-45 min wait EVERY TIME. The poor people that do work here are bombarded with nasty comments and death glares. Staff appropriately and hire some help! The one star is for the employees that have to endure! read more

I usually love the post office the the people working here are great. However, the wait here is just terrible because hey are severely understaffed. I often have to drive to another post office to avoid the long line. Please hire more people and have at least 2 counter open . read more

As a student, clear winner b/w this one and the one on Durant and Telegraph. The workers here are way friendlier, happier, lines are much shorter. The only issue is limited parking -- literally 6 spaces. Have to park on the street most of the time and hope I don't get a ticket for not paying the meter! read more

Absolutely the worst post office wait there is. They only have one person working. You have to take a number and there's always at least 5-10 people waiting. If you have 45 minutes to sit at the post office this is your place. If not, go somewhere else. Now I know why the US Postal Service is failing miserably. read more

Probably the worst service I have ever had at a post office. First, the facility looked like a tornado hit. The staff was working at cleaning up, but really isn't that something you should do before you open up. While they were cleaning up, they continually asked me to move my stroller, which got really annoying. Second, there were no priority mail shipping supplies. I wanted a small box, but none were to be found. I tried a medium box, but they had no tape. They told me I could buy some or go home. What happened to the Priority Mail tape? Finally, I just purchased a padded envelope. All in all, I spent $5 more than I needed to. Thanks USPS, really going to be around for the long haul with your excellent service. read more

After waiting in line for almost ten minutes the other day I was told that they were sold out of standard self-stick "forever" stamps. The only reason I had waited in line to begin with is because they've done away with the vending machines in the lobby. So I left without stamps. Miserable experience. The mail service provided by this branch is unreliable. It seems there is no coherent management because mail is consistently misdelivered or simply never delivered to the designated destination. I have consistently received mail that was addressed to another location and often wonder what happened to mail that was never delivered. The carrier is never the same person on my Prince Street route and I suspect the USPS has been using this route either for constant training or as punishment to those who would otherwise be fired for total incompetence. All I can say is that this is what we get for voting for Ronald Regan and the other idiots who are determined to destroy government services that do not serve the function oppression. Terrible service. Indifferent, unprofessional and so slow. Waited 45 minutes today. There was just one person working in the front and it's two weeks before Christmas. Meanwhile, you could hear multiple other employees in the back laughing and chatting it up. I saw many people give up and leave.Apparently they have been understaffed for weeks because someone is out on medical leave -- this happens, so why not hire some temps or reassign people, just like any other business would do. I like the idea of the post office and don't want to see mail delivery privatized. But this sort of service makes me feel like a fool for trying to support the post office when they obviously don't care about doing a good job. read more

This is usually one of the quieter post offices in Berkeley, with one of the shorter waits for service. But a word to the wise: if Richard (the older, perpetually confused gentleman) is working the counter, put down your number and walk away. He will mess up the queue by calling out random numbers, mumble the wrong postage rates for things to you, and shortchange you on your stamps. The women who I've been helped by here are friendly and more than capable, but if Richard is on duty you're better off waiting an extra hour at the downtown Berkeley station. read more

Never had any issues with anyone has ever delivered my mail before and our current mail carrier is the worst and EVERYONE in the Oakland USPS knows it. I've had many conversations with other carriers and they all just say "good luck" because she is a complainer and not good at her job. Gina Marie Bradley our mail carrier in Oakland refuses to deliver our mail, drive erratically and too fast on our narrow streets through our neighborhood nearly hitting elderly adults and dog walkers(on multiple occasions), often honks her horn in anger in our quiet neighborhood and has been marking our packages as delivered and only partially puts mail in the slots. She is not living up the the US post offices universal service obligation! read more

I love this place! It's probably one of the best places in Berkeley to send out mails. I arrived near 2:20pm on a Saturday and there were about 10 people who were waiting in line before me. I was worried that I might not be able to send my mail because they close at 3 on Saturdays, but I got out of this place in about 20 minutes. That tells you how efficient and fast the service is. Also, the employees are very friendly. The price is moderate as well! I'm so glad I found this place. read more

This is the most efficient USPS I have ever been to .. Initially I was disappointed when I came here .. as there is no kiosk here .... Dealing with a USPS personnel is the last thing i ever want to do .and dealing with other carriers is not a option as I am too cheap to pay more than double the shipping fees for the same service !!! I happened to be near collage avenue and thought of dropping in here quickly instead .I am glad I did .I was in and out in less than 5 mins ...The staff is extremely efficient and friendly .... I was so happy with the service that i saved up few mor e package and came here to ship them (I stay in Fremont) !!! This time I was in and out in 2 mins !!!! I think that the members of staff are pleasant--no real complaints there--but yesterday there were NO stamps--none--of any denomination--on sale. They were waiting for their "provider." The day before the office was closed because the computers were down. And as an older person I am puzzled why the seats have been taken out--surely against federal law in a federal building. And the number system referenced below in a 2013 post is no longer in operation. You now have to stand behind a tape. I suggest calling Barbara Lee, our House Representative, and establish a case file complaining about the problems. read more

There is always mail belonging to other addresses in our mailbox. And, some of the important letters to our mailbox were never delivered. Once I've been in trouble with DMV because the vehicle registration that I paid for never showed up. We called the post office several times, talked to the girl who delivers our mail many times, but the wrong mail continues to show up in our mailbox. I wonder if this postmaster even reads the addresses, or if she simply puts everything in one box after glancing the name of the street. Bad, careless, unreliable, incompetent service, and they do not want to improve. read more

Our postal route is always serviced last, the mail is given to the wrong address and the mail deliverer has a severe phobia to any and all dogs. The staff is cheerful and friendly, and are able to converse WHILE they are doing the work, so they are efficient as well. I don't understand the terrible reviews from last fall--my own experience there over the past 12 years has been very good except for some difficulty in keeping track of when we are out of town, so they have delivered visible mail while we were away. read more

After I found out that an important financial document my family member in Japan sent to me by express mail was missing, I was instructed to call this post office. I talked to three workers on the phone. Two of them promised they would get back to me and they never did, and the third one hanged up on me.
