I went to fair oaks post office today to mail a package. There was a long line and only one lady working the counter. I finally get there and she rings me up (and makes sure I do the survey first) and I have a $20 bill for $8.00 charge. She then tells me she doesn't have any money to make change. How can the post office not have money to make change? She then said I could use a credit card and I tell her I only brought the $20. I did not drive and did not have my purse. Terrible service from a federal government business!!! They should just close this location down if they can't make change for a $20. read more

I've had a few issues but 95% of my experience with this location has been really good! And my carrier is wonderful.

Always clean, well stocked and neat displays of postal items, cards and gifts, but most of all, professional dedicated staff- many who have been at this neighborhood post office for years since it was dedicated in 2000. Re: Fair Oaks Post Office: I sent a very important document priority mail that was supposed to get to its destination in Sacramento within 3 days. It want to TEXAS!! It wasn't delivered to the proper destination until a week later, losing me hundreds of dollars because I had missed a deadline. I was told there was a $100 insurance policy I could claim. However, when I went online, it said I wasn't eligible since it FINALLY got to its destination. I was told that there is NO GUARANTEE of delivery using priority mail! REALLY???? The supervisor at FOPO was very rude and not helpful at all. No wonder the PO is going broke! They are so incompetent!!! read more

This is the saddest of all the local post offices. I have lived here 41 years and own a local company for 31 years and have been to all the post offices in the area over the years. This post office is the WORST! 1. They do not honor their own published rates. See photo. To use their Certificate of Mailing book (which allows you to prove what and when you mailed something), the current charge is $1.45 PER PAGE. You can mail up to eight items on one page. All but one clerk stamps the book and takes the mail. Urmila, however, insists that is not the rate and makes us pay $1.45 PER PIECE. We even have the USPS printout of their own published rates taped to the front of the book but she literally doesn't care. 2. We have lived at the same address for 31 years. Yet we had someone from El Dorado Hills mail us her holiday card AGAIN in a new envelope because it was returned as ADDRESS UNKNOWN. The printed label on the new envelope matched the printed label on the original envelope exactly. 3a. John is a long-time clerk there. He is sometimes unkempt and is rude to some people, but not all. In line yesterday I observed him being polite to an elderly woman but the Asian man who went next did not fare as well. He literally said to that man, "Then you should know better." Even if that was the case, that's not how you speak with a customer. 3b. There are six women in my office and we have all had interactions with him over the years. Three are overweight and three are not. Over time we realize that he is nice to the three who are not overweight but the others consistently come back to the office griping about how he treats them. When we complained, we were asked to PLEASE put it in writing. They don't want to for fear of having to deal with him afterwards. 3c. Chatting with a mail carrier today the name John at that post office came up. "Yeah, he doesn't have many friends," they said. I said he seems like he is just waiting for retirement and doesn't care and they readily agreed. read more

I was mailing letters in the outside drive up mailbox the other day (first box) and noticed my letter was sticking to the chute! There were two other letters stuck there too. I had to peel them off then throw them in farther in so they would go down into the box. I drove up to the 2nd one, which was ok, so put the rest of my mail in that one. As it was busy inside, I decided I'd drive home and report it. The same as always grumpy guy (unless you're a young, attractive lady) that us usually at a window inside, answered and when I told him what I was reporting, he SNAPPED at me "We are ALREADY aware of the PROBLEM!". I tried to tell him, yeah, but the mail is actually stuck at the top of the chute (where I could see & grab it, and it's not even MY mail) and he just repeated what he said but louder and hung up! New hours are M-F 10-5. Sat 10-2. And they are serious- as in starting to close the door on you at 445. Really wish they would change them back to 6pm so I don't have to show up on a Saturday with the crowd in order to pick up my packages. Also, the last few times I have gone in to deal with the counter I must be getting the B team because they are the more stereotypical disgruntled "Newman" type postal workers. Cheer up people you're getting a federal pension to push envelopes and boxes around. At least fake it when customers are in front of you. read more

Gave this two stars, because the post worker was rude and impatient. And also is a not a Deaf friendly. I was helping my boyfriend while he was out of town for work, and went to the post office to follow up the package, due to the late delivery than usual. So had to call my boyfriend so he can speak to the post worker, at first the post worker was impatient cuz I didn't understand him at first and then I showed him my phone to show the tracker number. He was kinda rude at first. And then about 10 minutes later I had to call my boyfriend. And while they were talking on the phone, he keep interrupting my boyfriend and eventually he hang up and dropped my phone on the desk without handle it to me nicely. And ignore me without saying "have a good day" If you're having a bad day, don't ever take it out on your customers! Have a good day Sir!! read more

This USPS site deservedly has the reputation for rudeness and lack of customer support ! For TEN years, my spouse and I have lived part of each year in Fair Oaks.....Somehow our home USPS PO can get the forwarding correct each time. ON THE OTHER HAND, this USPS PO continually messes up the forwarding system. Trying to deal with them is SO frustrating . Having worked with USPS for 20+ years as an EAP counselor, I know the drill. With a tracking number the woman I talked to today SHOULD HAVE been able to tell me EXACTLY where my husband's meds are. Instead I got the boiler plate, well, they could be at the P&DC ~ when I interrupted her to remind her of 'the tracking ' in 'tracking number'.....she hung up on me and took the phone off of the hook knowing I would call back. (Btw, this young woman once helped me with a similar forwarding problem...so I get having a bad day....but hanging up on a customer.....NOT PROFESSIONAL.) The people in this place and the laziest people I've even seen in my life and they NEVER do what they say they are going to do or what will happen. If they say "we'll call you with further updates" nope, they never will. I needed the key and locked changed in my apartment and the 1 week he forgot to turn my paper work in after reminding me multiple times I didn't make it in time so it would take 2 days, I go check on it a week later and then tells me they Weill call me again, NOPE! The old man that works at this post office was the most lazy employee I've ever come across. I clearly looked at the prices of the shipping boxes and was confused. I asked a question and he kept saying, "go look at the prices." Which I already did and I had questions about those prices. Mailing items hasn't been something I do much in my generation and yet, he could not even be bother to answer the question. Continued to cut me off and say, "look at the prices on the other side". Like yes, I see the prices but I need more information on how this works. 0/10 experience. I was already having some struggles with my mental health and this guy made me anxious and feel stupid. Woo hoo! My 888th review. Having grown up in Fair Oaks, you really get to know the carriers here. Unlike Yelper Mara M., we've never had a problem. As for the post office itself, I find the lines to move rather quickly and the facility itself is on the newer side, very clean and efficient! I do miss those stamp vending machines though. The folks that work here are as cheerful as postal employees could potentially be. I don't imagine any of them (at least the ones at the front counter) would ever "go postal." If you need a new passport, go to the back of the post office itself. If you're facing the post office, it will be on the right hand side. read more

The problem with this post office location is the LOW MORALE. The people who work here seem to be really unhappy and it shows! Over flowing garbage cans and streaky/unsanitary glass doors and windows really don't help matters. Several employees are waiting for retirement and just go though the motions. read more

These guys are the worst. They are extraordinarily dispassionate about their job and very ineffective on getting the mail delivered. Over the past year I've had to make multiple complaints over the phone and in person over the same issues. Mail that I write as wrong address - does not live here gets mailed back to me, literally, with my handwriting on it and everything. Packages that are stuffed into the letters box, not parcel box cannot be removed. After telling them this, the package would remain in said letter box with additional mail just shoved around it. I had to make a firm complaint in person for them to fix issue. With these guys you have to practically make heads roll to get things done. read more

Because im a single mother I have to print and label myself through usps website and drop them in the lobby bin after hours. Last week I mailed 6 boxes at the same exact time and they lost one. Every time I go to the Fair Oaks Post Office. The man working is so rude. He never lets you finish what you are asking. Every time he interrupts you. He has such a nasty attitude. All I wanted was a box that they keep in the lobby. The lobby did not have the size but it was inside. A lady came out I tried to ask him. He interrupted the lady and told her don't let the lady in. I will never trust my packages with the Fair Oaks Post Office again! I needed to ship some items I sold on Ebay. I purchased the "Parcel Select" service through Ebay, which according the to USPS website (and other Post Masters) includes tracking for no additional cost. I deposited 10 packages over a two day period into the "Secure Deposit" box located in the Fair Oaks lobby. After a couple of days, my buyers started contacting me upset because the USPS tracking numbers for the packages showed I hadn't yet taken the items to the Post Office! I asked the Fair Oaks Post Master about it who said they do not scan Parcel Select packages since they do not include tracking, and as a result they will show as having not been accepted! I checked, and this is not what is done at other post offices! He told me that although not accepted, my packages had been sent out. This was a lie! I have documentation showing the Fair Oaks Post Office holding onto at least one of my packages for 4 days! and that it took another 3 days after that for it to make its way to Davis! read more

I have a few gripes about this post office: Packages addressed to my residence are delivered to the correct house number but wrong street name 9 times out of 10. Luckily I know the person who lives on the other street and I can easily retrieve my packages. All but one of the individuals who delivers mail to my home walk across my lawn and drip lines and my neighbor's lawns instead of walking on the sidewalk to get to my mailbox. read more

I asked that the post office leave packages on the back patio. They said would and then didn't. I called to question and make a complaint and the woman said she's the carriers boss and they will not deliver to the patio. Said she doesn't care what they told me before. I do love coming to this post office because it is literally walking distance from my house, however, staff is not too friendly. There are a few people who are, and a few that are uptight. The hours are really unfortunate. Most days I work at 9, and get off at 5. My mail comes up missing daily. I called the office about this issue and was told that "your route doesn't have a permanent carrier." What does this have to do with the carrier not being able to read? I had a neighbor bring me mail twice and my son's bank card(s) has still yet to arrive and it's been since Oct 22, 2020. Today is November 3, 2020. My car registration was never put in my box. DMV had to send me another sticker. Then important information I sent CERTIFIED MAIL W/RETURN RECEIPT to the IRS has yet to be received by the IRS. No return receipt yet!! I honestly believe it's the mailman. I've made complaints at the 800 number to only receive an email stating the my case has been resolved. Well, I'm unclear how... especially when I heard a representative in the background LITERALLY saying "that's bullshit. She called already 4 times. I'm just going to take the phone off the hook!!" And that she did. This is not a nice place to go mail letters, or packages. Customer service orientation is clearly needed for some workers at this branch. This needs to really be looked in to. Be safe going here. I travel 30 minutes to the post office in Elk Grove where I moved from. I've been in this area for a year now and I had to change everything to my PO Box to make sure I received my mail. Sad and sacred. I had to report this to the IRS and credit report seeing as I am the victim of fraud. read more

We lived in Fair Oaks fo over 17 years. In the last 2 years our mail service has been horrible. In the last six months our mail has been delivered to different people in our neighborhood and most days, we receive someone elses mail. We went to the local post office in Fair Oaks and complained. After the complaint was filed, some of our missing mail mysteriously appeared in our mailbox. I always place outgoing mail in what we thought was a trusted mail box within a store, including any payments due. Now several of those payments are missing or were received late. We will not use bill pay due to past ID theft problems. It is obvious that the pride of service you could count on from the USPS has become a myth. read more
