Some of the issues: -I've tried calling and someone literally picks up the phone and hangs it up. -the clerk can't answer a postal related question and just says 'I don't know' instead of finding out, asking someone else, escalating ... Some kind of effort would be nice. I can find out myself later when I'm online. -they don't fully know rules. I tried to mail cigars to troops. Cigarettes are not allowed, but cigars are. Not a place to get your passport done. First, there is no way you can get an appointment there for your passport within a reasonable period of time. So, I drive over there and inquire about walk-in appointments. They say "walk-in on friday, come around around 2:30 pm". Based on that instruction, I, infact, go early around 1:45 pm. I see a family of 3 with a kid (appointment only for the kid) and another family of 4 or something in front of me standing in line. I am in the line and I wait. Around 2:15 pm, an Indian lady comes out, hands out 6 walk-in tokens to the folks in front of me. Tells me and others behind me "rest of you need to leave, go home. That's it for today". So, no heads up, no instructions anywhere. Arbitrarily imposed rule she felt she would apply without any regard to the need and inconvenience of the people who go there for passport. I've been coming to this place since I was a kid. I feel bad for the workers here. They're very understaffed, obviously because it's a government funded business. Most of the workers are friendly when you're friendly to them. They just want to be treated with respect. Today I went here in the morning to handle myself & my wife's passports. This is the closest location to me so I tend to just come here whenever I need to ship something out. The line does get long and the parking lot is almost always full depending on when you go. I think it's the busiest during early morning and afternoon because it's before work and/or lunch hours. It takes a long time to actually get to the register because there's usually only one (or two if you're lucky) that is working so the line goes very slow. It's tolerable. The actual transaction for the mailing is quick though. The staff is usually very nice and friendly, but they work kind of slow at times. The line for the passport pictures (or something that has to do with passports) is usually very long and people are waiting outside before it's even open. I've overhead people saying how slow the staff is and it takes a long time to get through one group of people (like a family). But I can't tell you anything from first-hand experience since I've never actually gone through the process. Overall, I don't really mind the line. It does get long but it's bearable and I kind of have to be there anyways. So since I am already in line, I won't complain much. There aren't that many post offices in the Fremont area so of course it's going to be packed. read more

I had to mail a 2 day package sometime last month, and came in the morning just as the window opened. It was already crowded!!! The female clerk was wonderful, she patiently explained to me my options. All I knew was that the package had to be delivered to a Tennessee address by Friday evening. Unfortunately, I had to pay more than I should've because this location doesn't carry large express boxes or something. I believe this Post Office is the biggest one in Fremont, and I already checked the one closest to my house. They don't even carry express priority mail, so the fact that this Post Office HAD medium Priority Express boxes was already a huge step up. read more

Luckily, they have 3 APC's (automated postal center) here at this location, which is great b/c there always seems to be a line here...no matter what time you arrive...and there's hardly ever a line to use an APC. The service is friendly & fairly quick, but it's typically not their fault. It's the fault of the patrons who are not prepared before they get to the window... read more

If I could give no stars I would! My best friend has been having problems with this office the past 2 weeks First the postal worker who delivers the mail mistook my nieces toy dog for a real dog and then threatened to call animal control. When she tried to explain this the mail man started yelling at her and called her "a stupid little bitch" then started recording her on his phone. When we went to the actual office the first guy we spoke to was very polite and then he went to get his manager...he was a huge jerk! Didnt want to hear our story and just brought out a letter from 2 years ago that said we had a dog HAD! Then wouldnt give us the mail they refuse to deliver. I think the people at this post office are so helpful! They are sweet to help me and also tell me options on where I can save some money. Once I was going to buy an envelope to ship a dress but they said I can just send and get a box free. I am not very good at these things, so they have always held a helping hand. This Fremont Main US Postal Office is just a couple of blocks down from the DMV (I also reviewed). Fremont use to be a small town and this location still has a bit of that small town feel (not to mention also a bit of ghetto-ness mixed in there). I read the review by AccioSoyMilk .. and found it funny. I can see how the attitude and quality of service from these postal workers may shift like the winds depending on the day. The wifee and I needed to come here to renew my passport and received decent service but just make sure you check the passport hours for this office first which are different from the post office. read more

I have been going to this post office forever, I was born and raised here in Centerville. I've had a PO Box here since high school. But now I must say this office is the most mis-managed and rude post office in the nation. They have ripped me off for $14.00, they have provided horrible customer service, they are rude, incompetent, shifty, and unfriendly. (although, there are a couple of nice folks in there) I have filed a claim for $5000 to the federal government for the lack of customer service. If I can avoid this office (and my box of 30+ years is there) I do, I love the Niles PO. Not every PO is this lame, but this office takes the cake. Though I rate the USPS 5-stars overall, concerns are 1: when I had a 4-day hold mail request in effect but decided to stay home, I found a hold mail and deliver notice sitting in my mailbox (great for burglars), and 2. decades ago when I worked as a postal worker at Christmas holiday, I was ordered by the mail carrier to start taking at least twice as long to complete my deliveries. for PASSPORT service. Some good info here already in the reviews but my take; The lobby is open 24/7 so you can get their early with your chair, breakfast, magazines, ipad, etc to setup. The one lady processing passports is direct and efficient considering what she has to deal with. That is about the only pros. Well like everywhere in SF bay passport processing is way behind and appointment places are months out for the soonest spot. We are traveling this summer but I also don't want to wait until the last minute and have to go to SF for passports for the kids. After doing some research I got here at 4:30AM on a Friday to setup camp. I happened to be first but by 5AM there were at least 5 others, by 5:30 about 10 and by not much after 6 there were 20 plus after which time you can forget about bothering to come (more on that later). Once it got closer to 8 there were probably 40-50+ people in line. Around this time, especially near the front of the line, people's kids were being dropped off to wait with the parent in line. Now that is pretty much what I did too so I think its pretty legit, I don't think anyone was saving a place for other adults that I could tell. Also there are no public bathrooms, so make sure you can hold it or tag team with someone to take your place in line (I don't think there is anything close either with restrooms). Also around 8AM there were one or two chumps that showed up and were trying to park themselves near the front door. I made it very clear to them to not even think about cutting in line as I had the local PD non-emergency (yet) number on speed dial. But other than that it was a pretty orderly environment. So a couple minutes before they open the retail lobby at 8:30 they open the doors and let you move the line up against the left side of the lobby towards the far back passport office. Thankfully this was done pretty orderly. At 8:30 the passport lady comes out and make a few announcements to the back and then the front of the line. Basically she is like ALL the info is online so don't bother me with any questions. Processing is only for first time applicants (renewals by mail won't be accepted) and for children under 16. I won't go into all the passport requirements but suffice to say make sure you review this in advance and don't come in willy-nilly trying to fill out forms and get docs last minute. They will take your passport photo there for $15 each (only one needed) or you can take the photo yourself (see requirements) and print 6 with a little editing on a 4"x6" print for less than 20 cents at Costco, you cut at home. At this point she has a stack of 30-35 numbers and is preparing to hand them out. Each person that is processing an application needs a number (even if in same family). So she passes out the numbers and I didn't pay too much attention since I was first, but I bet she ran out of numbers by the time she got to around those that had waited since 6:30 or so. Like I said a few in line were reserving space for maybe two kids so the numbers ran out faster than when each person got there. She makes it clear not to bother her or she will hand out less numbers but that if you get a number you will be seen that day IF you are present when she gets to your number. I heard she tells people after a certain number to come back in the afternoon window so lucky for them as they don't have to hang around all morning (or chance when it will their turn) because when she call your number and your not there then you are done. The post lady also made in clear not to try any funny business, apparently some people in the past had tried to sell their spot in line. As for me I got in and laid out all my filled in-forms (except the area you are supposed to sign in her presence), docs, supporting ID and copies on the table for my two kids and we were done in 10 minutes for both. Make sure you bring only CHECK or MONEY ORDER as they don't accept any other payment. Processing fees are paid to USPS and application fee to Dept of State (each applicant needs own check) So that is the boiler plate. get their early, get comfortable and have your shi.... er stuff together. read more

This post office makes me want to move to Fremont that is how good it is. Compared to CV, this place has more amenities and services and much friendlier federal employees who don't make you feel too stupid ( I don't know about you but I always feel like the dumbest person in the world with no idea what I am doing every time I go to the post office). Good selection of packaging, average lines, clean environment. I have been here twice, both times to mail a package, this most recent visit I used the machine to print a stamp and pay, much quicker, and an employee let me use her pen and told me where to throw the package. read more

** for passports ** Just to make sure everyone knows, there is only one lady who is able to process the passports. Please be kind to her it's not her fault they don't give her any help. Yea it is true you MUST get there well before 8:30. The person who was first in line today ( 4/23/17) I heard got there at 2:20 AM. They were number 1. I got there at 5:30 AM and I was number 21. So just consider that. Also something that was super annoying, people will look like that have just themselves to process a passport but as it gets closer to 8 their children, wives and grandparents all of a sudden show up. So this bumps you down the number chain. If you do not know what I mean by number chain here is the run down. You get assigned a ticket number. They give out about 20-30 numbers a day. Then THATS IT!!! If you don't get a ticket that day you are sadly SOL. One lady gives out the numbers at 8 AM sharp! She I'll let you know if you will be processed before or after lunch. If you aren't paying attention or you leave and think you have enough time and come back and your number is passed, again you are SOL. You will have to come back the next business day. Also if you are doing a passport for a MINOR, the child MUST WITH YOU. I saw so many people turned away because they didn't bring their kid. AND YOU NEED BOTH PARENTS PRESENT OR WRITTEN CONSENT FROM OTHER PARENT. Also they DO NOT DO CHILDREN PICTURES HERE ONLY ADULTS. Also if you are just RENEWING a passport, meaning you currently have one, you DO NOT NEED TO STAND IN LINE. This office doesn't do that. JUST MAIL YOUR STUFF IN!!! Go to Costco and get your passport pictures for 10 bucks in under and hour. While you are there invest in a folding chair so when you are in line for 6 hours ( THATS RIGHT PEOPLE I WAITED 6 HOURS AND I GOT THERE AT 5 AM) you will be able to sit and read or play on your phone or do homework or what not. ***THERE ARE NO PUBLIC RESTROOMS!!!!!*** So my tips in summary Come by at the very least 5 AM if you wanna be in the first 20 before lunch. ( remember people do save spots for their children ect... it's annoying but just be mindful of this) Come with an empty bladder. Come with a chair to sit in Come with ALL YOU PAPER WORK FILLED OUT DOUBLE AND TRIPLE CHECK WHAT EVIDENCE OF CITIZENSHIP YOU NEED. THEY ONLY TAKE MONEY ORDERS OR PERSONAL CHECKS Don't be a dick while you are waiting, no one wants to do this! Finally, be nice to the only lady processing your passport. Total incompetence or theft. Two separate packages with two separate issues in the same week. One package was dropped off at the post office for priority mail 4 days ago and it has not moved. According to tracking It's still in the Fremont post office. It was supposed to be delivered yesterday. The other issue is a package from ebay was supposedly delivered last night. Tracking says it was dropped of at my mailbox at 8:19 PM. There are a host of problems with this. First, USPS never drops anything off past 7:00 PM. Second, the packages is too large to fit in the mailbox. Third, mail was dropped off at 12:06 PM including another package from ebay that was left at my front door, why wasn't the other package dropped off at the same time. Fourth, I have video showing the 12:06 PM delivery but nothing around 8:00 PM. It's looking like the Fremont post office is having either issues with incompetence or theft. read more

If you get here at 6am and there is 20 people in line it is best you come another day otherwise you might be waiting in line untill 8:45am to be turned away. Clerk #1 incorrect services on critical certified return receipt signature wasn't performed correctly called for refund and put on hold for a supervisor for 30 minutes. Hung up and called again another person took my name number a supervisor would call me back WRONG the telephone number disconnects now after 10 rings! Please inform your Congressperson to SHUT down USPS because supervisors don't care about customers their fore no point our tax dollars wasted every day! Theft of my money failed to provide services! The WORST post office I have ever had any experience with. They have lost my packages, do not ever answer the phone, and have zero answers for any questions. Who ever the carrier is constantly marks my packages as delivered and they NEVER get delivered. Awful, waste of time. If i had an option to use a different mail service I would. The lady working today (10/25/17) was able to find and hold a package that was otherwise going to be returned to the sender due to the type of shipping they had used, which made the package ineligible for the forwarding I had set up. I was then able to pick up the package directly from the facility. This saved my day; otherwise, the Halloween costume I purchased for my girlfriend would have been lost without time to get a replacement! The online USPS process of putting in a special hold, purchasing forwarding, etc. was all completely useless, but thanks to an employee on site taking the time to address my case everything turned out fine. DON'T GO!!! Definitely the worst post office in the Tri-City area. I had the misfortune of living close to this particular government institution for a year and every time I needed something it would always take forever! Even just to pick up an undelivered package is an adventure (and not a good one I might add). To top it off, the workers have always been unfriendly and even downright rude. If you need to go to the post office in this part of the East Bay, definitely go to the hidden, but otherwise quick and friendly post office just 5 minutes away in Newark on Clark Avenue, near the Cherry & Central. read more
