You can only enter the building if you've made an appointment in advance. Otherwise, for any paperwork processing, you can either leave it in the drop-off slot by the door, or mail it in (they have PO Boxes at the post office a 1-minute walk away. I mailed mine in this year and got my requested receipt back in 3 or 4 days. The Receiver of Taxes office was set up well even before the world changed. Other services in the building, as you might expect, include the Town Clerk, the Assessor, the Town Supervisor's Office, etc.. There are also meeting rooms available on site. There's usually ample parking (watch the directional signs), but in the case that the lot is actually full, you can also park on Main St. across near the library, and there's sidewalk access from there as well.

As far as USPS goes, this one isn't all bad. It's a bit out of town, limited parking, trucks…read moreturning around and idling and it can get busy - but the staff is cordial and professional helping old ladies and young bucks, all in one line. The postal boxes are clean.. there's a table to do your mail business and work. Trash bins. Pens. Scissors. Pamphlets and all the mailers you can shake a roll of stamps at. Double doors make this location a quick alternative to other slow poke places where the line is out the door. Another bonus is that this USPS building is at the crossroads of major thru highways and roads. That way managing things you may have forgotten to mail or need to go home to fetch and send out, is a half-way back trip only. Never had an issue. The only person working was a man who was hostile, rude and cranky--and this guy nrepresenting the USPS decided that day to come to work in a filthy, stained, USPS-branded shirt. If I looked at this shirt long enough close range, I could probably ascertain every meal he had eaten while wearing it. I'm pretty sure I saw old split pea soup. Didn't matter though...he glanced at my package, made a guttural noise (standing in for language, I suppose) and tried to swoosh me away (LMFAO!) with a hand motion. In other post offices they sometimes ask you to put the postage paid returns in a bin and that's what I thought he meant, but he immediately went off about something I had done wrong. I still don't know. Then, I said "I'll do this one another time," and handed him the second parcel--the envelope--and asked that it get there as soon as possible. I expect two phrases--"can you get it there fast" and "can you get it there cheap" are two of the most common phrases USPS workers here all the time...yet this dude decided to be hostile and act like he had no idea what I was talking about. After he showed me my choices, and I chose the 2-day I made sure to ask "This will have a signature required, right?" and he said "No," and tried to wave me away yet again. I really wish this post office would offer this guy early retirement--he's definitely the epitome of "going postal"-- and maybe that crappy pleasant valley post office can begin to recycle all its bad vibes into something positive.

Better off using the bigger lot when packed located in the Dollar General plaza. Dealing with a postal worker is never an issue for us, as we use it regularly when needed. Although the room is fairly small which can cause the line to go out into the hallway plus even outside when busy and it's not enjoyable. Two workers will do it, but it won't be the quickest. 5 stars for the workers who do their part, but the problem is what's bringing it down.

I overnight mailed a handmade art piece to be buried for a funeral and thanks to this post office, it almost didn't make it!! I had mailed it for $166 on a Friday to arrive on Saturday with a guarantee. It appeared to have arrived at the facility on Saturday morning but wasn't out for delivery. We cut them slack through the weekend and began to panic when it seemed to stay abandoned through Monday's business hours. After calling the facility, we were told the item never made it onto their trucks each day and they couldn't be sure when it would delivered, and said the recipient (my elderly mother with poor vision ) needed to go get it herself on site ! After much more back and forth they claimed to get it there by later that night - again, never happened . We lucked out as it ultimately got delivered less than 24 hours before the burial ceremony, and we were able to apply for a refund, but this was greatly unacceptable and a huge source of panic and stress for the recipient. Please do better next time.
