USPS is on its last legs. Their service has become completely unreliable and their post offices are dreary, dirty and completely out-of-date. I shipped a Priority Mail box on March 23 and it still has not arrived as of April 20. I just received a call from a rep at their Motor Ave. (LA) office who said the package is "in transit" but they have no way of knowing exactly where the package is. We live in an age of incredible technology and logistics and the USPS is a dying entity. Amazon should privatize and takeover the USPS and merge their services. I feel like I gave them one last shot and they blew it. Permanently switching to FedEx and FedEx Ground for all packages. read more

I would give less than one star if it would let me. Apparently there was an "attempted" delivery according to the online tracking yesterday. I found this interesting because I was at home by the door during the exact time that said delivery was attempted so I'm not sure what kind of attempt it was but no one rang my doorbell, knocked, or left any sort of note. So I proceed to spend the next 40 minutes on the phone with their customer service to see what I can do and I agree to drive myself to pick it up at the post office the next day (I figure if they can't do their job right then I'll just suck it up and pick it up myself.) The guy says they'll let them know that I'll be there to pick it up. I get there the next day to pick up my package and where is it? Out for re-delivery. Sigh....so she gives me another number to call and now I'm supposed to call her back in 30 minutes and I still don't have my package. I have never before witnessed a group of people/system that is so incompetent from top to bottom. My advice: don't ship with USPS if there is ANY way you can avoid it. read more

Horrible horrible customer service. I've rented a PO Box here for almost 6 years and today I went there at lunch to check my mail and realized I forgot my key at home. It's been over a week since I checked my mail (I'm a busy gal) so I figured I'd better get over there and get it on my weensy 30 minute lunch. I go in and walk up to one of the employees (Mrs. Swan from Mad TV--no joke) and explained that I forgot my key and here's my drivers license. Could she please get my mail. She walked back to where my box was and spoke to I don't know who who told her no. I can either buy another key or go home and get it. WTF!?! I can't go home there's NO TIME! I'm standing here with my I.D and they tell me to buy a key. Now I have to go back tomorrow morning. This is not the first time I've had poor customer service in here but it will be the last. I'm definitely not renewing my box here and after I'm done will never set foot in this office again!! Also--just TRY to complain on the USPS website.. you'll walk away even more frustrated. This USPS PALMS location has bad customer service as well as the one in Jefferson. I called to ask about my parcel and Ms. Evans said don't call me 3 days in a row! I called because she would say she will call me back but she never did. My parcel has been missing. It says delivered on April 4 but it wasnt in my mailbox and this is the third day. This is not the first time it happened to me. This is the third time. So now Ms Evans said she will Check the rack if my par el is there and give her few minutes and will call me back, and its been hours now and she never call me back. Before that i told her i want to speak with the supervisor and she pretended she went to call her and said that the supervisor was leaving. She was trying to make alibis so that i will not be able to speak with the supervisor. My friend and I were wondering why they hire inefficient people. My husband and I tried to send a package from here to family in Ecuador. Somehow, the package was sent to AUSTRALIA! Is it so hard to direct a package the correct continent?! Waiting until 5 minutes after the opening time with 6 others, we listened to the "clerks" laughing and carring on. They ignored the knock at the door by a fellow customer. When I asked if they were aware we were waiting, the employee told me and the others to "Just get in line." The "senior" employee with the "UNION STEWARD" badge told me I have "other choices" if I did not like how they run their post office. Ahhhh love the civil servant mentality. The other night I mailed a 1st class letter in the Priority Box outside. I tried to lower the flap to put my bill payment in. But it seemed to be locked. So I tried the box next to it. And dropped the envelope in. It was 9:30 and dark. When I got back into the car, my husband said I had mailed it in the Priority Box. Grrrrrr. Now, what trouble am I going to have. It'll be returned to me, and my payment will be late, or just cast aside. I'll have to call Spectrum and pay by phone, or what? So the next morning, I dialed the P.O. number, wondering if I would get anyone, and if I did, what would their attitude be. We know there can be a wide range throughout some of the stations. Though I must say I have had good luck being helped in P.O's around town, but I have seen some real sour pusses. The kindest, most pleasant woman answered the phone immediately. I think her name was Joyce. Please forgive me if that isn't right. She told me that the Priority mail is sorted anyway, and my envelope would be properly mailed. She also explained that the box that seemed to be locked actually will open just enough to slip an envelope in, but not to let the wrong implements in to steal the mail. I have felt sticky, gooey stuff on a mail slot before. And in fact, at this same P.O. we found a couple of ripped open envelopes on the ground once. They were addressed to utility companies. We were able to take them to the sender because of their return address on them. It's pretty funny if you Google 'What happens if you accidentally mail something in the Priority Box.' I just had the worst customer service experience in past 5 years! The African american lady at the counter first give me a lesson about I'm using the wrong envelope and tell me I have to use a medium size box for shipping my 6 small size bottles of medicine. I asked is there any other smaller box and she said they don't have it. Until the guy on the next counter kind enought to hand her a padded bag which is perfect size for my shipment. Okay, I got it, I used the wrong bag, but you don't need to be so mean to me. Then she asked me go to the side and filled up the customs form for my international shipping, without telling me what else I need to filled up. When I finished my custom form and finally get her attention to "service" me, she said I did not write down to/from on the package, and she said it in the way which is so mean and make me feel so low. :'( My uncle asked me to ship the stuff for him and said I needs to show the invoice so I asked do I need to, or just leave the invoice in the bag. She just gave me "commercial invoice" form and ask me go to the side again and fill it up. I asked her what it is, and she is using the mean way and said "Go read it yourself and you will know!". Eventually I went out of the line and do some research online and found out it's not applicable to me. One individual person can made so much damage to a organization... This post office only delivers packages when it feels like it.... otherwise they just leave a note and have you come pick it up. There is absolutely no continuity in terms of when packages are left and when you just receive a notice to have them redelivered/pick up at the post office. Workers are rude on the phone, leave you on hold for a long time (surprise surprise).... Wish I could switch post offices to be honest but that won't happen until I move. read more

The. Worst. I've had a couple small issues with them in the past and my roommates have had bigger issues. This time I was compelled to write a review because they lost a $50 package and were completely unhelpful. Like, astoundingly unhelpful. Like, you have to seriously be TRYING to be this bad. The tracking for the package said it was delivered May 7. It was not delivered to me. I checked with my roommates and neighbors, and no one has seen it (or no one wanted to fess up, whichever, but I seriously don't know why anyone else would want to keep a pair of size 3X galaxy print leggings). I emailed them. Waited a few days. A week. A couple weeks, no response. So I called the 800 number on the USPS website, got a hold of someone who helped me open an inquiry with my local post office (this one). They said I'd receive a call the next day with an update. I received an unintelligible voicemail after about a week. Called back, was put on hold for 15 minutes before I gave up. Called again and was told to call after 3 to talk to someone named "Wynn" (I think? Not sure about the spelling of that). I called a couple days later, waited on hold for 20 MINUTES only to be connected to someone who could only tell me that, according to their records, the package was delivered to my door on May 7. Well yes. I can see that that is what your records say. But your records are incorrect because the address on the package was correct (as I can see from the shipment confirmation) but I never got it so obviously it was misdelivered. Anyway, they told me to contact the sender, which I have done and am waiting on their reply. If I'd realized any effort to contact the Post Office was going to be completely in vain and a huge pain in my ass, I could've done that in the first place and avoided several headaches. Hopefully the package was insured (which is apparently something the Post Office was ALSO incapable of determining) so I'm not out $50. Thanks for nothing USPS. read more

Like many of the other folks venting here (since the Post Office does not care), our mail delivery is absolutely dreadful. It can get here as late as 10:00 pm or, on several occasions lately, they just don't even bother to deliver to this route. Someone mailed me a card from Pasadena on 5/25. It was finally delivered over a week later. That same person mailed a small package the other day. Today it is marked "out for delivery" but, at 10:00 pm, not here and nobody even bothered to deliver our mail - another tenant's outgoing mail has been sitting there all day and is still there. This is unbelievable - I've had semi-sketchy mail delivery before in another part of LA but nothing like this. And I don't want to complain because I am afraid they will just start throwing my mail away in retaliation. read more

This is the worst post office I have ever been to. The only redeeming factor is that it is open later than most post offices. They lost a whole week;s worth of my mail I put on hold while vacationing. It's been well over a month and they still can't find it. The employees I've interacted with have been rude and obnoxious. They have this "whatever, not my problem" attitude every time I talk to them. Umm yes actually it is your problem because it your job. Also, my mail is consistently delivered late, after 5pm. The absolute worst post office - I have two missing packages. One has a tracking number that indicates it was out for deliver as of a week ago and never arrived. I have emailed customer service twice and answered a USPS survey describing this incredibly bad service - but no response. This is a terrible post office. The only good thing is it is near my house but I am starting to think that a couple extra minutes in the car to get to a better PO would be worth it. I have been going here about a year. The staff has its ups and downs. The younger guy is nice and helpful. The younger woman who usually is out front asking people if they need help with the mail self serve machine is good. The older woman who sits to the far left is rude and really unhelpful. I was being helped by her one day when the other cashier asked her if she has a single stamp in her drawer for another customer. I wouldn't have minded if she took a sec to help her, but she ignored her for two requests and then she bit the other employee's head off and told her no! Then she proceeded to bicker with the other employee right in front of a huge line. It was so unprofessional. I have sent many packages with preprinted labels from this PO and usually put them in the drop box for them to scan and ship. A lot of the time they never get scanned until they get to the distribution center a day or two later. Thank gosh nothing has gotten lost YET. It wouldn't be such a big deal to stand in line and make sure they scan it if the line weren't always crawling because either there aren't enough people working or because the employees work at the speed of cold honey. The line for package pickup always has at least two angry people waiting for them to find their packages indicating some underlaying problems with this branch. I don't like the idea of people losing their jobs but this branch could use a clean out, and maybe a big job training/customer assistance refresher course. read more

Terrible customer service and product knowledge especially from an older lady (nora i think). She had went back and forth on which form i had to fill out for my international package, so obviously she really didn't know. After she made me fill out the wrong one and i asked her to shred the information she told me to just trough it in the trash. I explained that i didn't want all my information in a public trash can when she told me to rip it apart (ugh! really you cannot take this piece of paper and shred it?!) Then I was trying to buy insurance for my small flat rate package and she told me that is going to be almost $50 (the flat rate price for the small package to Germany is $17). When i told her that i thought the price was $17 she went back in her register and yes it was the $17, however, she told me there was no insurance available and if i wanted it i would have to pay for a medium size package, which costs around $47. The small package instructions specifically say that you cannot ship anything worth more than $400 in the small package, now if you cannot get insurance on it then why would that even matter. Anyway, so far my package has not arrived at it's destination yet and i sure hope it will!! read more

Always the procrastinator, I arrived yesterday at 5:40 p.m. In spite of there being two lines and at least 20 people waiting for services, all of the sales people were pleasant. There was one lady with long hair that came from behind the counter to make sure you were in the right line with the right paperwork. She took me over to the computerized station and walked me through my transaction. She was very patient and thorough. I don't know how they are able to stay so calm in such chaos. There was even a women there that REFUSED to believe that she had the wrong I.D. to pick up her mail. It was explained to her at least SIX times....yet she continued to argue. March 2011 I sent a letter (which contained money orders) from this station to be delivered within Los Angeles County via delivery confirmation. As I tracked my letter 2 days later,expecting a confirmation of delivery, I was notified that it was sorted through Austin, Tx. A supervisor did help me and called the Austin, Tx post office and kept me posted when it was finally delivered 9 days later. Believing that this was an isolated incident I sent a different package 3 weeks later from LA to SF via delivery confirmation. I checked online expecting to see the date and time of delivery but, instead, this package is in Louisville, Ky and 3 days late. I called the Motor Ave post office where they accepted this package and the gentleman referred me to call 877)876-2455. So I did, this man I spoke with told me (in very broken english) that he has no information re my package and delivery confirmation is not a guarantee of delivery. He proceeded to tell me that he is talking to me from a foreign country.....THIS infuriated me even more than losing my package!! He then replied "oh, no I am not in a foreign country." Yeah....right. How is it that there are so many unemployed people in the US and the GOVERNMENT offices are using foreign countries for customer service. UNBELIEVABLE! read more

I live in an apartment that doesn't have a great place to leave packages. My mailbox is small, and there are no good places for large boxes. Sometimes the mailman leaves boxes in front of my door (which I understand isn't always the safest place to deliver a package, but it is the most convenient for me) or they don't drop it off. In the event that they don't drop it off, it is a serious challenge to get that package. My parents had sent me a box that was supposed to arrive on Monday. They used the package tracking website to see that they failed to deliver it at 9:10 pm because there was no safe place to leave it. I was home. I didn't hear a knock or the doorbell and I didn't receive a notice that they failed to deliver the package. If it wasn't for the website, I wouldn't have even known that they failed to deliver it. I went online and saw that USPS said I need to pick up the package within about two weeks, otherwise they would resend it to the sender. So I went to the post office to try to pick it up, waited in line for 40 min because they only had one guy working will call and he was incompetent and spend 20 min trying to find one guys box. When I got to the front of the line they said it wasn't there and that they were probably redelivering it today, even though the website said otherwise. That evening when the post lady came I was home, I had my main door open, but the screen door closed. There is no way I didn't hear her knock. She actually delivered a package to my neighbors across the hall, just leaving it in front of their door. She did not knock on my door or ring the bell or even leave a note that there was no safe place to leave it. 20 min later I could see the track packages website say that there was another failure to deliver because there was no safe place to deliver it. So I called the direct line for the post office (that the guy at the post office told me to call if I didn't get my package again). They were closed and didn't want to talk, but I told them what happened, and they found the package. Somehow it already made it back to the post office within 20 min of failing to deliver it to me. I went to the loading docks behind the post office to get it. When I got it I noticed that the box was marked heavy. I bet the post lady was too lazy to carry it, and decided not to. As things like this have happened before, I generally do not trust USPS to deliver packages to my apartment. It is quite unfortunate when family or friends send me packages through them. Send boxes to your office, not through these guys. read more

Just like everyone has been saying,,,long lines and too few workers. And the workers that are their are so slow it's ridiculous. Also, if you try and call them they do everything in their power not to answer the phone and when and if they do, they have pretty short tempered phone manners. I get very frustrated ever time I stand in line and watch the two workers behind the counter move slower than a snails pace. Just an extra worker or two at the counter would make all the difference speeding up the wait time. But it seems this post office is dead set against something like that happening. read more

I've got to say, I've had nothing but positive experiences with this post office. People always are friendly and have helped me pick the right service when I had questions. Plus the parking lot there was great. The only thing I would change is taking those 2 self-serve kiosks and converting them back into counter space staffed with actual employees. No one uses them because the services the kiosks offer aren't any different from what you can buy and print yourself online (and if I'm going to the post office, it's because I need something more than that). Oh, and you can't beat the fact that this is the only post office around that is open until 6pm! read more

I agree with the reviews of the passport nazi. She's just another rude and lazy gov't employee unafraid of losing her job to the tons of other people more qualified than her. BTW, she only does new passports, not renewals. You have to figure out the renewal stuff on your own from the US travel website. The clerk was fine, line was long but there was parking so I gave them an extra star. They were also nice enough to pull people out of the line to pay for the fees if doing new passports. read more

Wow!! I'm totally amazed at these horrible reviews. I went in to the Palms station, the one on Motor Avenue and there was a long line. There were 3 cashiers or clerks helping the customers. The new supervisor Toni came from the back somewhere and gave man his package. The little girl, I say this because she looks like a child... she came out to line and started helping people prepare for getting to the cashier. She had everyone waiting on packages or mail move into a separate line. Took 5 people put of the too long line. And then she started taking people to the USPS atm like machine. I was the 2nd person she took to the atm thing. She walked me through the whole process. Saved me money and time. The entire time you could tell she was concerned about the customers but she stayed friendly and smiling throughout the entire ordeal. The only reason this place didn't get a one from me is because it is 2 buildings away from where I live. As for the poeple there, most of the time the women are helpful, slow but that's most... That is WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE ASIAN WOMAN WITH A CREW CUT... what a cold dead faced unhappy person. I've seen mlitary leaders with a kinder face/demeanor. I work at a school in the area "serviced" by this post office. A few months ago, I ordered a DVD from Amazon to be sent to me at school. When I tracked it, the tracking information indicated that it had been delivered on the previous Saturday by USPS. I went to the post office to try to find out what had happened, because my school is not open on Saturday and therefore does not receive deliveries on that day. The people at the post office swore that they had delivered it on Saturday, then said they would look for it and call me the next day. Still waiting for that call. I notified Amazon and they sent me another DVD. About three weeks later, my progonal DVD was magically delivered. A mystery, for sure. I was thinking of going there to renew my passport, but after reading all the reviews, I think not. read more

Rude people, NO mail delivery for days on end, we get everyone else's mail in our neighborhood and we spend valuable time taking it back to this post office to have them delivery it correctly. Their personnel are ridiculously indifferent. I spoke to a lady behind the counter who immediately barked at me "Talk to the Supervisor!" when I had just started to wonder why our business had not received any mail for 4 days. I manage apts with mail delivery out of this post office. We have not received mail in over 2 days now, the phone number for this office does not work. Tenants are missing prescription medications sent thru this office, pay checks and all mail in general! I have filed a complaint but I doubt anything will become of it! We are also missing certified mail that they say no one was at home to receive! Signed the please redeliver form and have never had it redelivered! Worst office yet! Not acceptable. Nothing but horrible experiences with this post office, and especially the delivery (or lack of) to my neighborhood in Palms. They lost my package, worth $75 last month, and claim it has been delivered. Based on all of my experiences with them in the past, I highly doubt it was delivered to my doorstep. Our postal worker is lazy, and throws the packages up the stairs, and sometimes they do not make it to our doorstep. We have been home to witness what happens. They are always badly dented, so I know not to order anything fragile. A couple of times the heavier packages are left in the front of the apartment complex. On top of that, much of our mail arrives very late, and the postal worker never checks the outbox. One time the postal worker parked blocking the garage to our complex. She saw my car waiting, and still took her time delivering mail. I called out to her that I needed to park in the garage, and she said she had left space to get around her vehicle, which she clearly had not. There was not even enough space for a motorcycle. Another time I was waiting for a package that required delivery confirmation. The worker left a slip on our door showing an attempted delivery & showed that the package was back at the post office. I went to the post office, and the workers were unable to find the package, and said he must be trying to deliver it again. The next day, the package was left at our doorstep, although nobody signed for it. The post office workers are incredibly slow and inconsiderate. For instance, I had been waiting about 10 minutes, and the line was not moving, so I thought, hey, why not try the self-service machine. So, I got out of line, entered all of my info into the machine, then tried to pay, with 3 different credit cards. None of them worked. I tried asking for help, but the workers were too busy. I got back in line, waited another 15 mins or so. When I reached the counter, I informed the employee that the self-service machine was not accepting credit cards. The worker said "we know".... So why not put a sign on it?! I said "there should be an out of order sign on it" and he just ignored me. Ugh! read more

Why are we forced to deal with incompetent people who hate their jobs or just cannot manage to complete a simple task? I agree with Lola L- I'm counting down the days until I move so this is not my USPS home branch. Last year they lost 4 packages that were never recovered, I have received numerous opened letters in my mailbox, especially cards with colored envelopes hmmmmm.....looking for money inside maybe? Three weeks ago they lost a certified mail letter, again, not recovered even after the lady behind the counter took my phone number and told me she'd call, and today I find out yet another package shows online it was delivered a week ago. Is it really too much to ask to have my mail reach me? The worst part is there's nothing I can do about the missing items.
