WoW, this is why the post office is going bankrupt. I just had the worst service with the laziest clerk ever. She did NOT want to help me. I had two packages: a box and an envelope. I had a label for the box and she wouldn't accept it and was complaining about the use of scotch tape. 30+ years of using the post and I've NEVER had an issue with scotch tape. Then the clerk refused to allow me to pay for postage for my envelope bc "the machine does it" like isn't that your job? Stupid woman. read more

I'm normally not a huge fan of the post offices, but as soon as I stepped foot in the door I was amazed. The tiny two door entry on Lexington is extremely deceiving. Once you get inside you are inside a vast cavern of postal services. It's a little overwhelming actually. This particular location sets itself apart due to the fact that every postal related need can be fulfilled here. They even have online kiosks for using their USPS site. The line up situation can accommodate numerous people without getting in the way of others all the while the number of stations means it moves fast. The workers there are all incredibly friendly and efficient which is much better than some of the other post offices I've been to and despised. Who would have though I'd be wowed by a Government run establishment, but wow. Obviously we all go to the post office nearest to us, but if you're one of the lucky few to be serviced by this particular location. Be glad, there's far worse out there! read more

Like all NYC post offices it's like visiting a NYC DMV, you wait in line until hell freezes over! If this is the post office nearest to you, I'd suggest you get here at the crack of dawn or make use of the self serve machines located in the lobby if you plan on visiting anytime after opening hours. If you think you are going to stop in & out during your lunch break then you must be sitting in your office break room having a wet dream cause that's just not reality! They have tons of tellers but you still have long waits and the only saving grace are the self-serve machines they have (2 of them). read more

Just left this branch and was helped by September. I have no idea why there are so many negative reviews of her service on here because she was absolutely lovely. I got to her window with around 95 envelopes to hand cancel for our wedding on Saturday around 8 am. She explained that though USPS no longer offers this service, they still do it as a courtesy and that she would be willing to stamp all of our envelopes. She was patient and she helped me weigh domestic AND international envelopes to make sure I had the correct postage. I spoke to the branch's supervisor about how helpful she was, but thought she deserves a shout-out here. She made the stress of worrying about vintage stamps and hand cancelling a breeze. Extremely disorganized and rude stupid employees. It took me 3 employees to Mail two Boxes, then First clerk Refused to help me cause there were no Pens open to use in the lobby, so I needed to write the address ASAP (would take less Than a minute) she told Me to go back, the second person got mad at me Cause they cause if something if there fragile so they can charge u more money to put a sticker, which isn't the question, I didn't want that. I went into this place feeling all happy and content and in less than 30 seconds the 'passport woman' just spewed all of her 60+ years of negativity all over me. Holy hell. I've been working a while too and I need to deal with clients but if I ever spoke to a client this way, I would be fired. Likely it would hurt my career in general since word gets around. It must be nice to feel such privilege & job security that you would even have the guts to speak to someone like that. Absolutely agree with the haters of that one clerk. Advice: she gets off at 8-8:30pm so avoid at all costs! I went to mail my Mother's Day cards having read her bad Yelp review. I mustered up the courage and calmness to have the most positive attitude when I realized she was the next available clerk. I've given this post office about 60 chances before yesterday. I'm popping off. I arrived yesterday around 10:30am to ship out a package. It wasn't really busy and there were plenty of staff members available. I usually use the self-mailing kiosks as the workers have never been helpful or friendly. As I was packaging my box, I realized I had brought a box that was smaller than the item I needed to ship. I went to the box section and the girl working there YELLS, "WHAT DO YOU NEED?!". I was shook but her sudden yelling, i turned around and told her i need a box for the bag tht I was shipping. She looked at my bag and box and said, You can squeeze it in! Before I said anything, she grabbed my bag and SHOVVVVED it into the box. The bag was over $2000 and it's now squished into a box. I said, "excuse me!? This bag is expensive!" She rolled her eyes and walked away. I found myself a bigger box and realized i needed tape. I didn't want to speak to the girl again so I went to one of the windows. The asian lady at the counter was friendly but told me they've been out of tape for sale for over 4 days. NO TAPE AT A POST OFFICE?! WTF?!?!?!? She then suggested me go to the fedex next door but I couldnt bring my new box out of the office without paying. She won't hold it for me either. So i had to pay for the new box, carry it all the way to the fedex to buy tape. I ended up just shipping it out via fedex. This is a fucking joke of a USPS. Don't trust the commercials: "we care." Came here 10:30am on a Tuesday to get apply for a passport. From Grand Central, look for the Lexington Ave exits. The entrance to the Post Office is on Lexington between 44th and 45th, same side of the street as the exit from Grand Central, so no need to cross the street, just walk north past 44th St, and it's on the your left. The line for passports is near the front entrance on the left in front of windows 1&2. Don't stand in the passport line if you need to do an adult renewal, according to two signs they are not processed at the post office and must be mailed in. This post office takes passport photos, which is nice because you can get everything done at one place if you don't mind paying a little more than other passport photo places. Make sure you have a debit card ready to pay for everything. When I asked if debit card or cash was faster, the lady said debit as she'd rather not have to deal with counting cash. The post office's additional fees include $15 for photos, $25 for processing/mailing the application, and $1.25 for a money order that you make out the U.S. Dept. of State. I would say the average time for each person is about 20 minutes. So you can estimate the wait time by how many people are in front of you. There were 4 people before me, and one did not have the required ID, and the wait was about 1 hour. read more

I tried to pay my quarterly taxes today and the postal worker would not let me get a proof of mailing because, get this-- I had a a printed sticker of my address placed on the forms in lieu of a handwritten address! Ironically, they would not accept the very same tax money which pays their salaries! So, on my way home back to Queens I took the same forms to my local post office who accepted them, postmarked them and the entire transaction took 2 minutes. Proof positive that the whole act in NYC was BS and designed as a power trip not unlike the putz who used to stand outside Studio 54 with his full length mink coat and pick people to come in. read more

I have yet to go to a post office that I actually enjoyed, but my experience here was terrible and overwhelming. There were four different lines for services snaking around the room, and after standing in one line for ten minutes I finally got up to the sign that said "stamps only". So I got in the correct line to send my package, and it took FORTY FIVE MINUTES to get to the front. There were only 3 windows open and about 30 people in line. My arm hurt from holding my package that long (that's what he said). When I was finally called up, I was told I needed to re-write the address on my package, so the worker told me to move aside while she helped someone else. I LOOKED over the counter for a pen, and I emphasize that I looked, and didn't reach, and the worker screamed at me, shook her finger, and said "NMM MMM, THATS A NO-NO!" As if I was a small child who had just touched an electrical outlet. I stared at her, as a startled young child would, waiting to hear what I had done wrong. And she proceeded to tell me, in a loud voice, that "you're not allowed to reach behind the counter. You wouldn't do that at a store, so why do you think its okay to do that here?" Basically, I felt like the people here were extremely rude to customers who patiently wait a LONG time for their services. I wish there had been some general director telling people which line to get in, what boxes/etc. to use for different services, etc. read more

I am so disappointed in this place. After singing its praises, I'm forced to give it one star. Their lobby is open 24 hours a day. Humans will not be there to help you 24 hours, however, keep that in mind. I went to the 24/7 lobby to mail small packages in one of their self service kiosks. BOTH kiosks were out of order. There was a sign that said "use kiosk between windows 3 and 4." However windows 3 and 4 were behind locked gates. I long for the day when I wake up to read the news headline "US Postal Service Closed Forever." Please, Gods of Yelp, answer this prayer. Punish these heathens and hypocrites. read more

I already had low expectations because I don't think going to usps has ever been a pleasant experience. Usps returned two of my packages as parcel rate (when I had mailed 10 together...). Measured it out to make sure the dimensions fit the criteria for first class mail. Not only waited in the regular queue, which took forever, but now waiting for someone to come out from the back. Have waited 30 mins already - no one coming out from the back. Literally thought the south side Chicago USPS' were bad but this is ridiculous. At least this location is open until 9 and has electronic kiosks so you can avoid talking to some of the unhelpful attendants. read more

I only ever use self service when I go to the post office because god knows it's a nightmare to wait in line for whatever form "service" at the window. But I have to wait to submit my passport application. I swear to God, they take 20 - 30 minutes per application, and only process two an hour. What the actual fuck. I can't believe I'm posting a Five Star review about the USPS, but today, I came in to get a new passport, as I had stupidly lost my last one a few years ago and my wife and I are taking a trip to Ireland in November. I came in, and there was one person getting his passport, and no line (in comparison to my neighborhood of Jackson Heights, where people line up at 7am on the few days they're open for passports, and they only give out 25 applications per day.) I waited for the gentleman to finish up, which took about 10 minutes, and stepped up to the counter, and was greeted by the kindest smile I've seen on someone other than my wife. Linda was so lovely, helpful, efficient, clear, and patient. I didn't have a confirmation number from when I cancelled my passport? No problem, she gave me a form to fill out. Didn't copy the back of my Drivers License? No problem, they scan it for you (for $0.50). The process took less than 10 minutes, and Linda explained clearly when I could check my progress on line, and where exactly to go or who to call for questions. She even wished me a safe and happy trip, and quipped about how she didn't know how to scan the QR code to fill out the survey, so her son had to help her. Far and away the best customer experience I've had, not even just at the post office, but anywhere, in a very long while. A+++! read more

I don't usually write reviews but this one deserves my precious time. I ordered a priority mail which is a very very simple task. Both from and to addresses are in Manhattan New York. It took them 4 days and my mail had a long long trip before I finally caught it by accident in the postman's hands. They sent my mail from Manhattan to Jersey City, to Brooklyn and finally back to Manhattan. God knows why they sent it over to those places with both from and to addresses being only 10 miles away in Manhattan. Also, I called their offices many times and their people I have spoken to did NOTHING. They promised calling me back with information but they never did. My time is very precious but I think this 10min of writing is very much worth it! read more

It seems weird for me to be giving 4 stars to a post office, but surprisingly this post office has given me quite pleasant experiences the two times I've visited...much more so than other USPS locations I've been to around the country. First off, this place is HUGE! I love that there are so many counters open and they have so much table space for you fill out forms, package boxes, etc. Also, they have one of the electronic number systems that tell you which window is available as you wait in line. Much more effective than anything I've seen in other locations. I've also visited once around 10am, which beat the morning rush. There was literally no one in line and was a quick process! The second time was during lunchtime around 12:30. It was definitely more crowded and there were about 6-7 people in line before me, but it honestly sped through within just a minute or so due to the availability of windows open. I'm a fan because this is open late (until 9pm) and if you're trying to have some Christmas postcards arrive on time, then this would be your savior. Granted, I didn't have to speak with a representative since I was just purchasing stamps for my postcard and needed to use the kiosk. This is in a high traffic area so be prepared to wait but generally, the crowd is pretty civilized. I just wished that the stamps I buy from the kiosk were the cute Christmas stamps I saw online or that you can purchase from the clerk. The ones that came out were scanned black and white streaks but I guess that's what you get for waiting last minute. read more

Like almost every other government run facility, this post office is mediocre. Once, I had to send a package. There were so many lines and it was unclear which line I had to wait on. I tried to use the self-service machine, but trying to use that is like trying to learn Differential Equations. When I finally got to the correct line, I had to wait for 45 minutes. Today, I applied for a passport. A passport is quite expensive ($135 for a passport book and $165 for a passport book and card. In order to be on the safe side, I recommend getting both). They only take US post office money orders and you have to bring a myriad of forms. The line for the passport is slow and long. They only had one person working there, an elderly Asian woman. She was nice, though she spoke with a thick accent. If you're getting a passport then expect to spend 45-60 minutes waiting on line. In order to minimize your wait, get there 15 minutes before it opens. The later in the day you arrive, the longer you'll wait. The USPS gets the job done. Nevertheless, don't expect a pleasant experience. read more

I mean I am kind of used to the hustle and bustle of the area now but this place still gets so damn crowded here. I like the workers here though, they are very friendly and seem to really help you if you need some help with anything. I do not like way to crowded lunch time crowds though, I guess at the beginning of the month you seem to know who is paying their Con Edison bills and what not, mailing out birthday cards possibly. I guess it is better than some other post offices, service does take care of the customers pretty fast. There is a self service area to get the stamps and pre-paid for mailing. There are also a small separate line for just getting money orders and buying stamps. This is a really big post office and I do sometimes come here after 7:30 at night just to avoid the line. read more

GOOD post office. Convenient to Grand Central. Yes, I waited about 10-12 minutes. Then nicest man helped me. Told me to go address my gift to Jersey friend's little girl (princess/mermaid apron and we all talked about little girls wanting to be both and joked about monarchy, divine right of kings and other matters) and come back to pay. People look at you funny when you "cut" the line as they have no idea you already stood in line to get the materials but not a big deal. It's clean, huge, pleasantly air-conditioned (not super cold but fine). All around a good place and I thought the guy helping you in line (a la Starbucks in Penn Station) was terrific too. I prefer to FDR and that's okay but it's like going to the Federal Building in LA. Too big and bureaucratic. This is big but it's not imposing. Needless to say, this is a better alternative to the what Rescue Me's Chief Reilly would call "severely retarded" service at Lenox Hill South. THE worst post office in the city and there are mostly 1 star reviews. Those people lose everything and they never answer the phone. It's a hike anyway for a lot of the 60s and people in this ten-block radius end up renting UPS boxes so they can get their packages. Clientele in line very friendly and well-dressed. Lady in blue/cream Chanel suit with matching pumps, the two-toned version of the black 4 inch pumps with gold chain on the toe and heel a friend loaned me in DC. read more

If you have to stand in line, for God's sake make sure you bring a pen, either purloined from TD bank or your own workplace, so that you don't have to borrow it from the dude with the pushcart of slips, and him telling you to give it back. Other than that, I've had no problems at this place. I've only run into lines a. after work or b. I held the door open for a man who didn't say thank you or even touch the door, just continued walking. Realized only afterwards it was a postal worker. One guy didn't want to wait on me. I think I made the mistake of looking at him, enough for him not to call on the next person which was me. It was like Soup Man on Seinfeld, Hispanic guy at Counter 6. So the Asian women at Counter 7 next to him was forced to take me. I had a straight forward transaction. She said I may not be able to send my item as there are restrictions. My item wasn't one of those restricted items and she was making more of it than there was. She knew and I knew. She was talking loudly too over nothing, pretended she couldn't read my writing. She asked if what I am sending is precious metal. I said no. She asked again if it's precious metal since I guess she thought I was lying. Again I said no. She said there are lines here not like in small towns. Guess she saw my address and couldn't help to make some sort of comment on towns. Ugg leave me alone. The line of 20 people all were able to hear every word of her loud and annoying voice for 5 minutes. Meanwhile no talking was even necessary. Just came out of this post office with my blood pressure 30 points higher than when coming in, and I have low blood pressure normally. Said to Soup Nazi on the way out that I wish I came to him. He just smirked at me like saying that's the way it goes here. Not going there again although the lobby is very nice looking which I appreciated. read more

The new automatic machines are trash!!! They are absolutely horrible. I've been trying to mail a simple certified mail, rrr for TWENTY minutes bc the machines do not read cards, they skip over your responses and they just shut down your prompts randomly and for no reason. This shoukd take less than one minute. Now I have to wait on a long line to do a simple mailing. HORRIBLE!!! read more

Aside from the time when I worked on the west side, I've gone to this post office over 20 years. It is convenient to my office, and it is a basic post office. If you go doing your lunch hour, surprise, surprise, it will be crowded. The line is long, but they have many windows open, and the line moves. They usually have a person with a cart who can answer your question and provide you with any forms you may need. One great thing is that the office opens early, at 7:30, on weekdays. If you go before 8, the lines are usually short and service is quicker. It also closes at 9:00 PM on weekdays. This is very convenient for commuters. Personally, I've found the people who work here to be friendly and helpful. I've never had any problems. This post office used to have an area in the middle that used to sell stamps. I loved that area, because 90% of the time I was there for stamps and the line was shorter than the regular line Also, you can check out and pick any special commemorative stamps they might have. Now the area is just an empty circular space with two small tables attached to the walls. It looks tacky and is wasted space. If this post office still had the stamp purchasing area, I would have bumped up my review to 4 stars. read more

This particular US Post Office offers solid USPS experiences, both from human beings and automated machines. I have used their services on two occasions thus far, both of which to send items via Certified Mail. While I have queued for a clerk on each occasion, one may also opt to use their automated service. The lines have never been terribly long though, and the clerks have always been efficient. Furthermore, the constant stench of urine, similar to how many public transit stations smell, never ceases to permeate the premises. And consistency is said to be a good thing. read more

Absolutely friendly. I needed help on renewing my passport. I inquired what forms was needed. The lady behind the counter working was really friendly and helped me. She was nice and pointed me out to the specific documents that I needed. I was in a rush, but there was not even a line. I felt that this location was not only spacious, but pretty great. read more

A very efficient post-office with separate lines for official passports to be expedited and US official money orders- just look for the signs. Its also important to note that the entrance is on the outside of the building, between 44th Street & 45th Street. If you're just doing mailing, shipping, and buying stamps you can also use the electronic kiosks near the doors instead of using a teller. read more

I went to this location in the early afternoon. The lines were short, service was prompt / efficient, and I didn't run into any issues. The person helping me was very clear with instructions, and obviously takes her job seriously. Needless to say, this is the way it should be. Another bonus is that this location is big. it was a no-brainer finding personal space to fill out forms with personal information.
