This place is terrible. We order from Amazon prime a lot, and they consistently lie and say they attempt delivery minutes before the end of the promised delivery window. No door bell ring, no sticky delivery attempt notice on the door. Its like the guy runs out of time on his shift and just scans all the packages as attempted deliveries. Its not once or twice either, this happens all the time. In person I feel a bit bad because it certainly seems to be a demoralizing terrible place to work, but I've stood in line there for a long time at the package window without anyone coming to assist. I've successfully mailed stuff there, but unless I have no other option (like they are holding my package hostage after failing to delivery it to me) I'll go to another post office. The worst post office in the entire country probably. Always a thirty person line to pick up packages and only one window for it while retail windows sit unused. During the prework rush to get stuff done, there's no one working. With such small changes this place could be 200% more effective, but sadly people in Harlem, i.e. mostly poor people, have to contend with terrible public services. It's a real disgrace. Worse than my experience at the 112th USPS location, which I didn't think was possible. I avoid the service desk at all costs because of the absurd line. But there is something I cannot avoid about this location. It is close to my home. When I receive a package it goes to 521 W 146th St. I really, really wish it didn't. So the process is a familiar one by now. I receive the beige slip in the mailbox. I should be squealing with excitement. Someone cared enough to send me cookies, candy, or new socks. I should be overjoyed. Instead, I am dreading the trip to claim the box of goodies. It is being held captive at the post office, and I can only claim it M-F from 10am-2pm. Yes, you read that right. This is the worst post office I've ever had to deal with. Their carriers continuously deliver mail and packages late, IF ever at all. They claim to have attempted delivery, yet there is never an attempted delivery slip. That means we have to go down there and wait on always-long lines to pick up what the incompetent carrier couldn't deliver. They're extremely rude on top of the incompetence. If I ever make it out of here, please tell my family I love them! There is a special place in building hell saved for this post office. I'm in line here right now, where I've been for the better part of an hour. To pick up a package. The incompetence is unbelievable. EVERY time I come here I absolutely dread it. I get to the window, the man takes my slip, comes back empty handed then points to a sign next to him saying the package won't be available until after 2 pm. This post office is the absolute worst. It wouldn't be so bad if you could just use another, more competent one. Unfortunately, those of us in the neighborhood are forced to end up here--because we have to pick up our packages. For whatever reason, the mail carriers in the neighborhood are often so lazy that they don't even try to deliver packages to you at home. You can be at home all day, only to get your mail from your mailbox in the evening and find a slip telling you to pick up a package at the post office. That's if you're lucky. Because a lot of the time, the carriers are so lazy they don't even bother to leave that slip. You are just supposed to intuit, apparently, that a package has arrived for you at the post office. So you end up having to take time off work to go to the post office, because USPS can't fulfill it's most basic functions in Harlem. You show up and wait in line for at least half an hour, with all of the other disgruntled people forced to pick up their packages that day. Often, the person behind the window disappears for 15 minutes at a time... and it's not clear what they are doing. Once I arrived and got in line, and we didn't see the person at the desk for 30 minutes. And nobody else came to help the people in line, although we could see other workers milling around behind the desk. So unprofessional. In short 1) mail carriers won't do their job and deliver packages or leave delivery attempt slips forcing you to go to the post office; 2) the post office is a black hole. read more

Are there ANY decent post offices in NYC? I'm glad this one is not in the projects. It's also not as bad as the one I had to go to in Ridgewood since at least the staff did tell you when your packages would be delayed and the lady behind the counter didn't forget about me or my package when I thought she had. Sooooo... Contrary to some of the other reviews here I don't think this place is THAT BAD of a USPS office. Sure, a USPS office is a USPS office and I certainly would not recommend coming here expecting top notch service and quick moving lines but I come here pretty often (1-2 times a month or more) and have not had too many issues. There was the time when they were holding my parcel in office because they couldn't deliver it due to snow and then they couldn't find it. I had to fill out a form and thankfully Amazon sent me another at no charge but the office completely refused any and all responsibility for it whatsoever. No offer of reimbursement (which mercifully was not needed), nothing. Just a shrug and a "fill out this form and someone will look into it." The supervisor here isn't the friendliest of the bunch, but most of the employees I have encountered have been very professional - which I commend them for because sometimes the patrons here can get rather unruly. If I could I would give 0 stars! This place is incompetent. I have had numerous packages shipped back to seller, or given to the wrong address. There is ALWAYS at least 8 people in line waiting to pick up packages and only 1 slow af employee who obviously hates their job. They are rude, unhelpful and will not do anything they don't have to. My apt mailbox continues to get mail that is not even my apt... so I end up having to give it to the correct apt, which also explains why I don't receive all my mail since I'm sure other apt's are receiving my mail. The absolute worst. No one on here is exaggerating. I know they CAN deliver packages, because about once in every ten times, they do. Doesn't seem to be anything different about those days, so maybe it's just one carrier vs another. 90% of the time, we get a slip even if we were sitting in the apartment all day. Redelivery? Don't even try. Picking up packages is kind of a nightmare. In the middle of the day (but not during lunch hours) you can usually manage a ten minute trip. Maybe. But try after 3 pm or anytime on Saturday and you can easily wait two hours. It's not just that it's busy, the workers take ages to find each package, and seem to enjoy telling customers that they can't pick something up. I once saw a postal worker tell a woman that she couldn't pick up a package because it wasn't addressed to her. Well, she said, it's my five year old daughter's name, it's her birthday present from her grandma. Can I bring her in person and get it, then? Sure, just make sure she brings a photo ID. I listened to a ten minute argument where the employee insisted that a FIVE YEAR OLD needed a photo ID or couldn't receive her BIRTHDAY PRESENT. In the end, the mother threw up her hands and said they should return it to the sender. These kinds of problems seem to happen to at least half the people in a typical line, which is why it takes so long--if there are ten people in line, count on well over an hour of waiting. It really sucks that our USPS is so bad here, because I love my neighborhood. read more

Extremely rude. I've been a resident of Hamilton Heights (West Harlem) for over 20 years. All my life the service has been slow, shady, and pure rude. I went there with my 5lb dog in my bag for packages drop off. He didn't whine, bark or even make a sound. Frankly, someone even commented they didn't see him. He didn't even touch the grounds. I'm sorry, but I refuse to leave my dog that's worth $1500 outside for a woman who is sitting behind the double panned glass pushing papers and collecting checks moving at turtle pace. They refused me service. Even when I tried to speak she cut me off loudly in front of everyone and refused me to acknowledge me. As a clerk you should be able to at least be able to direct or be more helpful. There's a reason the USPS are cutting jobs. People prefers UPS or DHL anything to avoid dealing with people like the clerk I did. The USPS is a service that is operational by my money as a customer and supported as well by my taxpayer dollars. I refused to be treated as though it was a favor. I am a customer should have the decency to be given the proper respect and etiquette, if I am refused service. SOMEONE PLEASE review this agency/office. The people there terrible and are working at their snails pace. At lease have someone who reflects the ever rising shipping and postal cost! I just moved out of NYC. While I was sad to leave, I miss nothing about this post office. Except all of my forwarded mail. It's in the W 146 abyss now. I covered the shipping costs for family when mailing packages as long as they used UPS and FedEx. But don't be fooled by FedEx SmartPost. It just goes to your local post office. I know too much about shipping now, solely to avoid this post office as much as possible. And don't say go at an off time. Filed a complaint with USPS on 2/13/2020. They have two Supervisors at this location, Mr. Waiters and Ms. Gill. Ms. Gill likes to inform customers that the manager is never on duty and or the manager is out for lunch. Ms. Gill prefers not to be called "You Guys" cause she isn't a guy and I feel she took that word to literal, etc. However, I don't believe Ms. Gill is even able to comprehend that when a New Yorker says, "You Guys over at the Post office claim to have 'lost' my package" it doesn't mean we are calling you a "Guy" per say. I guess Ms. Gill isn't from NYC cause Ms. Gill actually had the nerve and audacity to call the Police on me on 2/13/2020 due to me wanting to file a formal complaint with her Manager about her work ethic; which is obviously non-existent. I absolutely waited for the two male NYPD officers to arrive outside the post office that Ms. Gill called on me, while I was on hold with USPS customer service and guess what happened everyone?! I DID NOT get arrested. I mean, Ms. Gill, I think it's beyond offensive, disrespectful, disgusting and SHAMEFUL that due to your lack of experience you felt it was appropriate to call the cops on me especially when I was attempting to file a complaint with your Manager about your poor communication skills on the phone and even worst in person customer service skills. Ms. Gill, you being a Supervisor does not give you authority to call the Police on myself and or anyone else whom is questioning why we are constantly having problems with "lost" packages. Has the USPS looked into the possibility that this location maybe involved with fraud? Internal theft maybe a cause to all these "lost" packages when it comes to this Post Office. The station manager has no interest in resolving non-delivery of packages. This is what consistently happens your first package comes out of another delivery center. The female truck driver does not attempt to deliver all her packages instead she takes them to this post office unloads the truck and starts filling out orange cards that she back dates and hands them off to the letter carrier to be placed in your mailbox the next day. I went early this morning to pick up packages, there were other people in line too, and although there were two staff members there neither were able to help us get our packages. I was told that due to weather they would not be opening until 11 am. I'm confused how all the children and teachers in the school next door were able to get there but no staff members could get to the post office. I am currently standing at the supervisor window. He has been looking for my package for about 27 minutes now. Ok he just came out and said my package might not be here (the same package that was guaranteed to be delivered to my apartment last week, which the mail carrier failed to do and failed to leave any notice on the door like he claimed). I've lived here for 14 years and the service gets worse and worse. Packages get delivered 30% of the time. Most often the carrier won't bother and will just bring them back to the PO and say they tried so that you have to pick them up in their crappy facility, where, if you've ever been there, is a total disaster. I have to work every day, so I can't take a day off to wait in line for a package I paid to have delivered. The worst! Usually I will complain to the DC office and they will redeliver, but now it's hopeless. This last time, I had no less than 5 cases filed and NONE of them were resolved. A family member lives here and I have had NUMEROUS occasions of NON Delivery and returned packages. I have had Amazon supervisors on the phone with one of your supervisors in 10031 zip and the supervisor LIED to me and Amazon about why the packages haven't been delivered and blamed it all on Amazon. I believed the USPS until I came to visit my relative in zip 10031 and have witnessed what is going on FIRST HAND. Packages are being delivered just fine from FED EX and UPS, but just like ALL the reviewers who have blasted you, your mail and package carriers do NOT ring the buzzer, do NOT come into the building and do NOT leave notices about where the packages are. Also, people don't have time or the ability to pick up huge boxes at your terribly run Hamilton Grange building. Thats why people order things online: To be delivered at HOME! I have always supported and defended the postal service and railed against the privatization of mail via UPS and FED EX but in this particular case, your operation needs to be shut down, with all guilty employees fired and prosecuted for fraud or conduct violations.
