This post office is located a couple blocks from my house. I've seen the bad reviews. In my opinion, it's the cost of doing business. During the holidays, the amount of customers and the volume of mail handled is outstanding. I can't deny that at times more counters should be available and the mail for my building has been delivered as late as 6pm. Without knowing why these things occurred, there is only so much I can say. What I can say is that I've seen these postal employees working long and hard hours and deal with customers that would drive most crazy. Keep up the good work guys and ladies. I have a PO box here and they've denied me access to it multiple times despite the branch being open and well before their posted 7pm closing time. The staff are rude and the lines are insanely long. If you're thinking about opening a PO box at this location, do yourself a favor and go literally anywhere else. Avoid at all costs. read more

The particular location is by far the worst in the city. The attitude of its employees are both rude and unhelpful. Their lack of compassion towards the elderly are a disgrace. The mail carriers delivering restricted mail are completely useless from this branch. I sent a document restricted delivery that they allowed someone to sign for with my own name. When I requested a refund they stated it was delivered we are not refunding you. So I had to cancel a check and resend arriving beyond the legally dated deadline. I had to go to another USPS location to get a refund for their purposeful incompetent mistake. The head of that branch if he was at a company would be fired. Do not mail an item restricted delivery where this branch is handling the delivery they simply won't honor it. read more

Terrible post office. The floors are always extremely dirty, like there is caked on dust on the floor. The electronic number system doesn't work and hasn't worked since who knows when. I haven't been to a post office this pathetic it's always a long line. The employees always have attitudes and they never wanna work. I always wait hours in this particular post office. They're always understaffed. It's never anyone there to do your passport. There's no one there's never anyone downstairs to give you your packages. And the mail carriers they don't even come to the apartments or we deliver like they're supposed to. This is an actual disgrace because people rely on their Mail and for these employees suggest be careless and nonchalant about these things that shouldn't even be happening is just horrible. United States Post Office 178 Columbus Avenue was my go to when I lived a few blocks away. I have had good times and bad times at this location over the years. One day last summer I was in the neighborhood at the right time of day to purchase my stamps and hit the door. I find with any business that the time of day makes a difference as far as waiting in line. As far as the disposition of the employees I say kill them with kindness. Long lines.... Only one guy of the 10 counters at work. This Mr Siddell was rude and unhelpful. Offered more expensive options without offering cheaper service. He was also coughing and didn't wear his mask properly. A lady named Chanel was also rude - telling people to pick trash up. She was obviously in a bad mood. Didn't even habe working pens on the counter so people had to line up and then fill in forms and go back to the counter, making it even more inefficient. After 40 minutes waiting another guy strolled out to his counter. The manager here has to run a tightdr ship... It's really quite an awful experience here. read more

I live in the area. I have used this post office numerous times. I never seen a post office lose more boxes or letter ever !! Two weeks ago I sent a certified letter that was originally scheduled to be delivered in 4 days. The tracking number shows that it was recieved by the post office but there is no updates after that. I went to the post office to see if they can help. No help, they have no idea where the letter is. Worst...worst...worst. read more

I went here for a money order. I made a mistake and used my credit card rather than my debit card. The anger and disrespect that came from the male employee was unbelievable. I would not anticipate an elegant response from somebody in his position but I would certainly not expect the attitude I received. I believe that there is something emotionally broken in him. This kind of outburst, while offensive in nature, makes me embarrassed for the employee in question. That kind of behavior represents a dangerous person who does not have the emotional competence to do even his simple set of tasks. At the same time, it must be difficult to have that kind of response to the world around you. If you are interested in dealing with people that have even the smallest amount of emotional acumen I do not suggest setting foot in here. This and the 60th Street Station are my favorite go to's! Good, consistent customer service and organized. Plenty of supplies and self-service machines. During COVID, they are limiting occupancy to 10 people. I especially appreciate their hours (weekdays 8am-7pm, and Saturdays 9am-4pm). A lot of other stations are 9am-530pm or so on weekdays which is sometimes challenging to make with work / life obligations. read more

I had packages delivered to this location with a picture confirmation from fed ex and a notification from "this" post office in my PO Box that I had packages waiting to be picked up. Im sure you know where this is going....obviously they couldn't find the packages. After being given the run around for 45 mins trying to speak with the manager (I was told her name was "Ms. Wright"). A employee told me to write my number down and she'll call me back...that was 3 days ago and of course no call. I am a 74 year old Upper West Side woman. I have lived in the neighborhood for over 40 years. Like most of us, I have been treated with breathtaking disrespect by USPS counter staff at area post offices over the years. Like most of us, I avoid going into a Post Office unless absolutely necessary because the experience is often one that ruins your day. On March 19th, I walked many blocks out of my way to go to the Ansonia Branch because I have had a few good experiences there (as well as the normal totally manageable surly behavior of course). I arrived at 8AM, thinking it might be OK first thing the morning. The place was empty when I arrived. BTW, I was using the Post Office only because I had to mail my apartment lease back to management using Registered Mail Return Receipt Requested. I ended up doing business with a counter man of about 40 who decided to give me an experience that I will never forget. He started yelling at me the second I asked a question about how to fill in a certain line on the certified mail form."READ WHAT IT SAYS!" he spit out at me. When I asked him politely for his name after he raised his voice to me, hoping the request would moderate his behavior, he yelled louder "NO! NOW YOU NEED ME!". When I asked him to lower his voice, he called up the only other customer who had just walked through the door, a man, whom he proceeded to serve with lavish courtesy as I stood there helpless. In front of that customer, he told me I had been very rude to him and needed to apologize. (This USPS guy has played this game many times before) And so... I did .... because all I wanted was to get my envelope registered and get back to the real world. I had done nothing wrong and we both knew it. As I walked across the length of the floor to the exit, thinking " thank goodness that's over", this man yelled at me twice " YOU'RE NOT A WOMAN! YOU'RE A MAN !" (I'm a biological woman BTW) This nameless, rage filled guy has found the perfect enabling employer in the USPS. Never Again. Let Them Go Broke. read more

USPS declined BIG TIME no matter where one goes in the USA and looks as if it's a business from a third world country. The employees are nice, so I feel bad for them that they have to listen to angry or annoyed customers for the following reasons: no pens to write out addresses, no tape to pack up boxes - one has to buy it (silly), they always run out of stock, like boxes to buy to mail out packages and even run out of priority mail envelopes, long lines with 7 windows and always 2-3 employees at all hours, even before holidays, the passport window is ALWAYS closed, the POBOX service keeps charging more money every 6-12 months and not sure why because there are absolutely no upgrades, no new employees, so what's the value in having a PO BOX?. If the USPS is now privatized, it's untrustworthy and who ever sold it or for whatever reason, made a mistake to do so because it has the USA or American brand on it and it taints the whole country as simply having bad services for such a basic business. This is one of the very best post offices I've ever visited. I was in the neighborhood today and sent two certified mail items. The clerk was very friendly, as were all of the *other* clerks. They also knew a significant number of customers; they were greeting everyone (and vice versa) & having friendly conversations. Also; this post office is clean, bright and a good size. It even has a large glass-framed board filled with all of the different stamps available for purchase. If only the two post offices closest to my apartment had such friendly employees.... read more

Pros: 1) Great customer service! If you need any help there is always assistant on the floor. Toby who helped me this time, she was very helpful and great! And smiling!!! That's so rear in those days especially in government services lol. 2) Fast line. Almost no line, because the assistant also help take care the people to send packages through auto machines!!!! That's really helps!!!! 3) even there was 3 people on line, but I guess manager was around and saying that sorry taking so long ( lol, it 5 min, but really makes people feels good!!!!). Slow as molasses! This is a prime example of why government employees get a bad rap. I've also decided that they are making up mailing/packaging rules so that they can make money off of the little technicalities (i.e. your package MUST be taped with a specific type of packing tape). Of course I don't conveniently carry that specific kind of packing tape with me, so I am forced to purchase the huge roll that will last me a lifetime for a teeny tiny package and at least 2x the price! read more

The staff at this USPS station, 178 Columbus Ave, are far superior to those who work at the Planetarium Station on W 83rd St, who are disrespectful to the point that one has the impression there is nothing those workers can do to earn a reprimand, much less employment termination. I had taken my business to UPS on W 72nd St, then began using Columbus Ave station. The staff here is professional and courteous, and today Connie was particularly helpful during the uncertain and stressful time of the coronavirus. read more

yes three stars for the usps and it was worthy as my visit to the post office on the upper west side was quick , normal, stress and rude free. nice size spacious branch that actually had 3 semi alert window clerks helping customers smoothly. good supply of postal forms and place is clean and neat. needed to send 2 certified letters and forms were filled out correctly and in advance. good variety of stamps from superheroes, american pioneers, nature, music, etc. got a book of 20 stamps with sports legends and i got a smile from the lady window clerk(wow). overall had a nice friendly visit to the post office and it was quick and painless .lol. read more

Super easy and quick. I needed to mail a letter and they had envelopes/stamps ready to go for cheap.

I used to go to the post office on 60th but got sick of their rudeness. I came here for a change this last week to ship some packages to my family in Arizona hoping they'd be more helpful and kinder. I placed one of my packages in the package drop and the lever got stuck. I asked them what to do. Two employee women proceeded to scream repeatedly across the store at me saying "Bring your package here" over and over. Ignoring the fact that it was stuck because the package drop was full. I just ended up leaving my package in the drop and walking out. Experiences like these ruin my day. No customer should be treated or talked to the way I was. I work in the food service industry specifically Starbucks here in manhattan and have not and will not ever speak to one of my customers the way I was spoken to. When first walking in the woman I bought packing tape from and shipped my other package with had an aggressive tone. I don't know why all the Manhattan post offices I've been to have such disrespectful and unprofessional employees. Worst post office I've ever been to. read more
