Lincoln Center Post Office is one of THE BEST post offices in the city. The staff & supervisors are very courteous & professional. If you have any questions, they are always willing to help. You've got be kidding me. My grand-father was a career post office employee, president of the Lettercarriers union, and a man who'd be ashamed at what I was just put through in a United States Post office. Customers these days are intimidated by the attitude in the post offices, and it came at me full bore, in the Ansonia Station, with an employee screaming at me, telling me I had no right to expect my mail not to be damaged, refusing to give her name and threatening me if I didn't leave the building, then threatening me if I did. The scene was so disturbing that several people came up to me and offered me their names as witness. My mail was totally damaged, soaked through and delivered to me crumpled up like garbage in my mail box. I went to the post office because I thought they would like to know one of their letter carriers wasn't doing their job. I was told what did I expect? It was raining. I asked if this is normal. She started shouting. I was told it was raining. As I questioned this I was told again and again it was raining, she couldn't control the weather. What did I expect? I said my expectation is my mail is not severely damaged by rain. She raise her voice again and kept telling me it was raining, there was nothing she could do. This scene got so out of control her supervisor had to come out and tell her to leave. What happened to the concept of simply doing a good job? Why are so many people intimidated to go into a post office? It's scary. I'm not sure i ever want to step into the place again. Better to go to UPS than USPS. I love the idea of a postal service, but these days it's really more like a postal disservice. read more

I second everything said by Steve M. The fact that they want me to wait 35 minutes in line because my the book I'm mailing weighs 13 ounces--just so they can put a $0.00 sticker on it--never asking me the contents--boggles the mind. Walk to any other post office in the city and, including travel time, you'll still save a good twenty minutes. Or, only use this post office for Priority and Express mailings. Their machines in the front somehow make it magically safe to mail 13 oz+ packages if you purchase these premium services. The logic of this seems, to me, akin to allowing people to bypass airline security if they've purchased a Business or First Class ticket. To be fair, there are a few employees who seem human and, therefore, are above and beyond their peers. read more

If Yelp rating system allowed stars in the negative...I'd do it. Not just BAD service...NO service. If this picture is any indication to how our government plans to run our health care system....it scares the heck out of me. The lights have been burnt out for at least 3 years, the employees sit back and talk about what they did last night, while there is a line virtually winding around out of the building...and just try their phone line, it rings off the hook. The government employees must be on lunch break 24/7. You need a degree in Government Postal Service when you walk up the window because they won't lift their finger to fill out anything. You better know exactly how to fill out and paste all the information on a Certified and Registered letter let me tell you, or you'll get the wrath of the government worker behind the counter. I try to stay away from this place like the plague and I'll run to UPS or Fed Ex before I'll stand in line and waste my time in this zoo. It's worth the extra money. I had a great experience here today. Essence was VERY helpful in helping me to figure out why my mail was being returned to sender. As a result of past negative experiences with other post offices, I was expecting a battle/argument over it, but I was very pleased with the ease in dealing with the problem and Essence's personable demeanor. I felt I had to chime in, given all the terrible reviews. Been here plenty of times. Usually I use the automated machines out front, but I've dealt with the counter folks a few times and even got a passport submitted through here. Never had a problem. I'll grant you this though: I wasn't serenaded with love songs upon entry nor given a pedicure while in line. So, one star off, for that. How horrible of them. read more

I wish there was an option for a minus star rating on Yelp. I tried to mail my retirement rollover check and a form with my SSN on it via USPS Express Mail. They lost the package! They can't find tracking number anywhere. The manager Fernando said he contacted the mail center at the destination address via email. He refused to forward me the email. When I asked him "how can I trust you that you followed up on this inquiry?" he gave me an absurd response saying that "how can I trust you that you mailed the package from this office?" although he has the payment receipt with the branch address and the copy of the original mail slip with a tracking# Because of their incompetency I had to call all credit agencies to put a fraud alert on my SSN. The only reason I gave this particular branch a 2nd star is cause of their workers in the basement area ( that's where you pick up mail you've had held when you go on vacation ) who are efficient and quick. Ground level operations seem to be a test line creation to see if they can get one to reach all the way to the front door ( and, unfortunately, it seems they achieve this very often ). read more

Let me start out by saying that I ship a lot of items and have been to many post offices. The Post Offices in NYC are quite terrible on the whole so this branch deserves a lot of praise. My place of work is actually closer to the Planetarium Station but that one is hell on earth. It's worth walking the extra few blocks to go to Ansonia. Almost all of the employees here are friendly and helpful. They work quicker than their counterparts at Planetarium and seem to know their stuff better. There tend to be long lines here but they actually move. read more

I don't know why it took me so long to write this review, probably because my mind tried its hardest to bury this unpleasant memory as deep into my subconscious as possible... So anyways, never had an employee of any kind straight up scream at me before. Everyone in the whole place and probably outside of the vicinity could probably hear her jeez. And no I did not deserve it or anything - having been in the service industry myself, I always try to be the most polite and easy going customer ever. During the whole exchange she was being aggressively rude, combative, and touchy. I felt like I was walking on eggshells the minute I entered her sphere of attitude. Whatever. Maybe she's having a bad day. I just continue on with my business as quickly as possible. She no joke freaks out when I take more than a second to pick out which stamps I want. When she finds out that not only am I paying in cash but I DARE ask for a receipt she literally combusts (no, not literally, but I wish) with these short screeches of indignation and exasperation. I apologize and tell her I can't help it because I'm buying these stamps for a business and they only gave me cash and they need a receipt with every purchase. She slams down my change and receipt and I breathe a sigh of relief and take my change, quickly count it...and realize that she's shorted me. Why didn't I just pay the difference out of my own pocket? The thought of me having to pay anything because of this persons shortcomings was insufferable, so I braced myself for the worse and before the next victim is able to walk up to the counter, placed the change down again with the receipt, and told her she gave me the wrong change. And so yeah this is when she loses her sanity and just blows up and starts full force screaming/screeching/bellowing at me about...well I would write it but let's keep this PG. At this point I'm just in shock and everyone on the floor is just silent. The other customers are just kind of in disbelief and the other employees have that "not again" look on their faces. what did I do? I did the only thing I could think of in my state of shock and just said "oh okay sorry bye" and lined up again so I could see another employee about the matter. The new employee was very understanding and asked if I wanted to file a complaint since the manager was out but I just wanted to get my change and get out of there. read more

Note: This review is specifically for the clerk, Aissa, who assisted me on 05/25/16. This is the post office local to where I work. I needed to send a couple things that were emotionally important (though not monetarily so). I also happened to be extremely sick and had been under the weather for several days at that point. Why was I even at work? I don't know, I shouldn't have been. Anyway, I needed to purchase a small padded envelope for one of my items but they keep them behind the counter. I was peering back there, trying to see what the options were when Aissa spotted me looking confused. She could tell I needed help and called me over to her station (even though she appeared to be in the midst of doing other work). She helped me figure out exactly what I needed and was kind & patient while I labeled things and packaged them up. She was easy & fun to talk to, and she made me feel totally better about being sick, tired, and stressed out. If you go here avoid a woman with short blonde spiked hair last name "Alago"- I am stunned at the fact they allow this woman to work here, the most rude person I have ever encountered in a post office (which is saying something) and when I asked her a simple question about sending a package to my brother in law's naval base, she shoved my package at me and refused to help me whatsoever, yelling at me to "go to who helped you last time because I'm not doing it". Great post office and staff. Was a little wary of going to the post office during COVID, but needed to mail a package, so had no choice. I was planning on using one of the machines by the entrance, but when I got there the post office was practically empty, so I walked in. It was clean and airy, staff all wearing masks and gloves. The clerk who helped me was friendly and helpful. In and out in less than 5 minutes, very impressed! Went back the following day and had a similarly pleasant experience. Thank you! read more

This is really a good post office. I've been in countless times, including during the current Covid epidemic. Staff are quick and have a professional attitude. Today I went in to renew my passport. The woman who helped me was on time for the appointment (you have to have an appointment for a passport during covid), had a pleasant attitude, was fast and friendly. I was in and out in 10 minutes. I am giving them 2 stars instead of 1 because the customer service rep at the station was so helpful, patient and pleasant. I sent my packages on 12/19/20 and as of 1/4/21 they have not arrived. I understand that we are in the middle of a pandemic but that does not justify the tracking system telling me literally nothing. As of 12/20/20 the system told me all packages would arrive 12/26/20. A few days later the system said no information available. All seven packages are in limbo. I should at least be told that they are on their way. Are they still sitting on Columbus avenue? I should be told. I spent $130 on packaging and delivery and am getting zero service. I will use UPS or Fedex next time. So much for me trying to be a good citizen and help out a government agency. read more

I honestly would have never expected to write a positive review for a post office, but here it is! I just dropped off a package and had zero wait time, along with the most pleasant customer experience with Mrs. Thompson (didn't catch her first name). She was upbeat, polite, and extremely helpful. There were at least 5 or 6 staff members there to help, and some of them even seemed to know frequent customers. Incredibly rude staff here. For months (years?) we were not able to use the chips on credit card purchases. Always rudely barked at us "NO CHIPS" as though this was obvious. Hadn't been there in a while because I avoid this location whenever possible. Today, credit card machine looked different. I meekly asked "can I use the chip here?" He barked "It's the ONLY way you can use your card!" as though this was the stupidest question ever asked. It's really not necessary to be so nasty. A few of the staff are pleasant, but many are rude and seem to love to boss around customers. Avoid this location if you can! read more

Every time I come to visit the people are always rude and unhelpful, and if you ask them for something and they deny it, right after the snickering co workers with laugh and be obnoxious on purpose. Just had another negative experience at this post office. Was returning a book via Priority Mail with a pre-printed return label and the woman behind the counter told me I'd have to find my own tape to affix the return label to the box. "We don't do that here no more." She then told me to find another customer who might have brought in his/her own tape dispenser from home. When I told her there was a large tape dispenser in the empty cubicle sitting next to her and politely asked whether I could borrow that, she got up off her ass to look and said: "No, we don't touch that tape." I find this USPS location to be very efficient, I've never experienced long wait times and counter help is usually pretty friendly here.

I had a great experience here while trying to determine stampage/hand cancel a big stack of cards. One agent hooked us up with a stamp pad (so we wouldn't have to lick a hundred old school stamps + saving our lives -- recall a certain episode of Seinfeld?) and another (we think ID read M Lee?) patiently weighed each card and hand cancelled each one so as not to ruin the stamps. I'm an artist who unfortunately lives closest to this post office. I send my sold pieces through the USPS to minimize costs. Every time I sell a piece, my joy quickly turns to a pit in my stomach when I realize I have to step foot in this place, the 7th layer of Hell. I forgot to go to Staples to buy my package of tubes beforehand, so I decided to pick one up from the post office and send it all in one shot. I walk in to find a line about 20 people deep with only ONE person working behind the counter (2 others were discussing what they were going to do over the weekend but not helping anyone). I FINALLY get up to the counter, ask for my tube, and am told I have to step to the side to fill it out. In the one minute it took me to fill out the addresses, that woman went on a break and Satan himself (in the form of an Asian woman who barely speaks English) opened her spot behind the counter. I get up to Satan and she starts SCREAMING AT ME. I'm not exaggerating. "YOU PUT TO ADDRESS NOT CENTER ENOUGH!!!!!!" What? Yeah, she didn't like where I wrote the addresses. Even though they were exactly as I write them every time I go and it was clear and legible. It wasn't "center enough" for her. She starts waving the tube around like a sword and berating me for not being able to instinctively know this woman has major OCD. I ripped the tube out of her hand and mailed it myself at the kiosk in the front. She was still yelling as I walked away. From the kiosk, I could hear her yelling at whoever was behind me. Yikes this place is bad. The mail carriers that come out of this place aren't any better. Mine comes to the building and then sits on her cell phone for an hour before putting the mail in the boxes. Don't smile at her, lest you want the look of death shot your way. Definitely don't speak to her or you will instantly regret it. Oh and don't try to give her a piece of mail to send out (even though she's required to accept it) or you'll send her into a fit of rage where she spends 20 minutes complaining about her job. There's one Hispanic woman that works behind the counter that's nice, but the rest of them are either idiots or the rudest people on Earth. Many times both. read more

Dropped 16 envelopes in the blue boxes outside of this post office on July 1 of 2017. None of them has been delivery to the mailers. No way they can't track them because they only have a regular forever stamp each one. Just write this review so at least I let the inspector from post office that it's something going on with those mail boxes. It's a Post Office not the VIP room at Per Se. Yes, the lines can be long. But things move pretty quickly most of the time and I've found the staff to be competent and helpful. Even when the mistake was mine, they would tell me how to resolve it, what additional forms were needed, etc let me come back to the front of the line. Seems pretty civil to me. Jamie J. - Seriously? Like others, I would give this a 0 if I could. The interaction I had with Bernice today was amongst the most unpleasant I've ever had (and I've lived in NYC for 30 years so that's saying a lot). She was bizarrely aggressive, even going so far as to look at my package for my name (and, presumably, address) to threaten me that she knew who I was. I think the inciting incident was that I responded to her shouting at me that I could not use painter's tape on my package. I said that it was closed with packing tape even though I'd used some painter's tape to cover the logo on the box. It must have been that she took this as unacceptable argument (although from my point of view I was merely stating a fact). She continued to shout what might have been orders, but it was hard to tell exactly. As I was removing the offending tape she slammed down her closed sign and stormed away, shouting that she would not deal with rude people. I went to the gentleman at the window next to her, who counseled me to 'ignore her.' Which was hard to do from the fit she was pitching. Basically, she screamed at me from the first interaction until I left the shop. She even screamed at me from her window while I spoke with the poor, beleaguered employee who listened to my complaint by the front door. It was as if Bernice hadn't had enough fights to satisfy her hair-trigger temper that day and I was elected recipient of the moment to receive whatever madness that was all about. Even though this USPS is around the cornering from my house, I will NEVER go there again. It's amazing how little recourse there is for this kind of behavior. USPS is a stone fortress of no response. I can only imagine what it must be like to spend more than a few minutes in Bernice's presence and I am sorry for her colleagues. read more

My neighborhood post office. It's okay! The lines can be long on the weekends, and the staff isn't warm or friendly by any means. But I always accomplish what I came for. No. Is this post office better or worse than the majority of the ones I've been to in this city? Better. MUCH better. I used to live up by the Planetarium Station one, and this is a significant improvement. The employees have all been really helpful, in my experience. In fact, once, when I went in to get a passport for my baby, I was so absent-minded I forgot my entire packet of information, and you know what? I live in a brand new building delivered by the Ansonia 178 Broadway USPS. My mail has not been delivered for over three weeks. And the Station Manager, Miss Coletti, is never there to talk with customers. I give a zero rating to this USPS office. They returned mail containing payments, official mail from Government, etc. read more
