This is the worst post office in all of NYC. Came to retrieve a package 3 days after the available date on the slip. They couldn't find my package and the excuse was because he was out on vacation so everything is backed up. So the world stops functioning because one person is out. Poor staffing. I had to ask the lady to lower her voice and check her attitude or we could stop the interactIon right there , which she did . I was coming to enquire about my mail not being forwarded to my new address and still being sent to my old one even thought I had made the change of address over a month ago and got a confirmation letter by maIl at my new place , in the same neighborhood. The supervisor told me that I had to come in the morning and catch the carrier and let her know I had moved ... When I asked why I should do that if I had filled a proper request over a month ago and got a confirmation letter from the USPS? It is then that she became rude and nasty telling me with a major attitude that was uncalled for . I calmly asked her to lower her voice and keep herself professional or we could end that conversation . She chose to end it . I then proceed to ask to talK to someone above her and got her name . I called the USPS and open a complain. This type of service if very detrimental to the community up here and penalizes the good employees because until yesterday I never personally had any issue in that facility , but I have witnessed a few wrong situations over the past 15 years coming here. They are very slow( which is an understatement )under staffed, the place is often filthy but I was getting wat I needed done and getting out of there . Primarily use this post office for package pick-ups & drop-offs. This post office also services my street address for some Amazon Prime deliveries. Despite all the nasty reviews this place gets, I have never had an issue, or come face-to-face with too long of a queue when I've gone here (right as it opens). The attendants at the pick-up window are nice (make their lives easier and sign your slip & have your ID out!). My mailperson is really nice and always rings the right doorbell (and waits too!) and always leaves peach slips. The mailperson who deals with the Amazon deliveries, also nice, delivers packages pretty late. I'm typically the first person to write a nasty remark about people hating their service jobs, but think about all the a-holes the people here have to deal with before being an a-hole to them. If you get a peach slip in this hood (10027) and are not able to schedule a redelivery on-line, call 800-ASK-USPS--you'll get a human via a callback after going through the prompts. The confirmation # can be checked on-line immediately after the call. They can typically redeliver the next day (I usually get mine the same day!), so if you're pressed for your parcel, go wait. : ) read more

I then explain that I have to apply for a new one per the rules on the US travel website. She then again dismisses me and says do it by mail. Disaster post office. Fail to deliver my 2 day express envelope. I call USPS national customer service line. They put in notice for re-delivery (this is one week after the package was supposed to be delivered). A week goes by and I assume my important documents have been delivered. But nope, not the case. USPS national customer service issues a request for re delivery and tells me to call this post office because they can't make outgoing calls. I call all day but non-stop busy signal. Damn USPS. FedEx would have cost me 50 bucks more but this issue would have been resolved two weeks ago. Worst decision I have ever made to utilize the service of these clowns. read more

Now, my mother used to be a postal worker. Yeah, she owned a gun. Yeah, she went crazy and nearly shot some bitches. She would come home and tell me the politics, the drama, the millions of maddening instances of pettiness that drives people over the edge. So I, for a time, was a little bit sympathetic to the plight of the beleaguered postal worker. That time is waaaaay done. This, the Mahattanville Station, is hands down the WORST post office I have ever had the misfortune of going to. When I got there today, as most days, there were a short supply of workers in the retail windows. 3 in fact, out of a possible 9. One finished up with a woman and then promptly closed his window while the line started to grow. 15 mins of waiting and then another retail agent closed her window. Apparently, they both went on their lunch break while line got even longer. By the time I was close to the beginning of the line, a line had formed at the Inquiry window where one worker seemed to be there and not there. Then a frustrated mob of people were pacing because the Passport window did not have anyone working in it when it clearly should have been open. A woman and her young son talked to an aimless woman walking behind the retail plexiglass to find out if the Passport window was in fact "open." I heard the postal worker say, "I will find out" and then leave to the back. She never came back. No one seemed to know if there was going to be anyone to help the people there to get their passport applications done. That was about an eight person line. No one else came to help the one woman working the retail windows. Still no one came to the passport window. This is the place where customer service goes to die. This is the place where the MTA can point, snicker and say, "These assholes makes US look like model managers!" This is the place where the public is gonna start shooting the postal workers, and not the other way around. And frankly, when that happens, I'd like to be there to watch. read more

Literally the worst place on the planet. First of all, it is always messy, there are always very long lines (often with people fighting), and the customer service is ABYSMAL. You will fill TERRIBLE about humanity after a visit to this post office. However, for me, the worst part about this post office is the complete incompetence. I have lived in this zip code for 10 years. In that time, I have placed my mail on hold or forwarded maybe 3 times. Every time, they completely screw it up. They lose the mail, or they don't hold it, or they don't forward it on. Every time I have spoken to the postmaster, she has been rude and unapologetic. But what am I supposed to do? This is my home post office. It isn't like I can shop around for a better place. It's completely infuriating the number of important items that have been lost due to their incompetence. And...I got yelled at for asking if my package was there. I said I need to know if my package is there before I go to pick it up myself since you guys don't seem to know how to deliver a package. Unfortunately, this has been my post office for the past nearly 8 years. If you're lucky enough to get an employee who treats you like a human being, you'll be okay. Otherwise, you're in for a real treat. A kvetchy, Kafkaesque example: Today. I had to mail a package. I had it all packed and addressed, but since I was told I had to repack it, I was directed to go address it one of the adjoining tables with a pen on a string. The pen didn't work. So I informed an employee behind the counter that the pen was out of ink, and asked if he had a pen back there I could use. Despite the fact that he had a pen tucked behind his ear, he said no, and directed me to another pen on a string across the room. That pen was also out of ink. I returned and politely told the same man that this pen was *also out of ink, and asked if he had a pen back there I could use. He insisted no. I pleaded that I just needed to address a label and would hand it right back, a five-second endeavor at most. Instead of helping me and passing me a pen to use for five seconds, this employee chewed me out for asking for a pen, arguing at and berating me for five times as long. Basic human decency and kindness would go a long way toward making this a more bearable and efficient place. For what it's worth, the one post office I've had a decent experience at in the city is the one down on 43rd st-- maybe it was a fluke, but the woman working there was kind and helpful-- something that cannot be consistently said of the employees here. read more

I sent a package of my high end swimwear to a colleague in NY for a very important business event. The package was not delivered on time and tracking said "undeliverable." There is no reason the package should be undeliverable. I spoke to the employees several times to have the package redelivered, and also held for local pickup for the recipient, neither of which occurred. I finally received a voicemail that my "box of swimwear would be returned to me." I NEVER once mentioned the contents of my box. How would they know the contents unless they opened the box???? Why was the box opened????? I never received the box and I am certain my box was stolen. From now on I will only use UPS or Fedex for sending valuable shipments, especially to NY. read more

They don't deliver your packages at ALL! They'll say they delivered something when they didn't or say they "attempted" when they didn't. Horrible and frustrating service! When you call they say "oh, they're training they probably didn't know". I don't want anyone that's "training" handling my damn mail! Another excuse they like to use is that your address isn't "deliverable" and inaccurate. How are you telling me that MY address is inaccurate?! How?! They are very irresponsible. They lost my passport application a few years ago. I paid to have it expedited and it was never sent/or found. I had to go downtown and do this whole process to get a quick passport to be able to leave the country. They have also lost some of my packages recently but after going in person to the post office and complaining about it to the manager, 2 weeks later they were delivered to my mailbox. Thank goodness. So I hope the service gets better. I just want my packages delivered and sent, not lost. It's all I ask. Avoid at all costs. So dysfunctional. After a 45 min wait they couldn't find the package for the man in front of me in line. Then they couldn't find my package either. We both left empty handed. Meanwhile, on a Wed morning (not a peak time) there is a line practically out the door while 2 employees refuse to step up and help the 1 employee with this massive line at her window (not our job, is literally what they said as they sat there and watched.) The only person doing good work there was the cleaner who was diligently scraping crud off the floor. UPS or FedEx is worth the extra cost. I just lost an hour of my life to walk home empty handed. If I could give this place zero stars I would. This is the single worst post office I've been to in my life. Having been to post offices in nearly all 50 states (can't speak for Alaska) that is saying a lot. Unfortunately, it's my neighborhood post office (thankfully only for this summer) and my packages get delivered here. The staff are both awful and rude, they have no concept of customer service, they are short staffed, the lines don't move and I could go on and on. If you are looking for hell on earth, this is a good place to go. Otherwise, look elsewhere for a better post office. Hopefully you don't live in this neighborhood or you may not have a choice (I feel for you). Based on my experience here, I pray for the day that USPS gets privatized. It's Halloween time and if you want to go to the scariest place on earth - head on over. Admission is free but your time is not. The workers here have no respect for you as a human being let alone your energy or time. They treat you lower than dirt while talking to you in a derogatory, angry tone. You could be treated better by any bum on the side of the street. They usually have about one person working at a time with a lime half way out the door. If you have a free lunch hour - forget it...you'll probably need about an hour to an hour and half of time to speak to someone. If you have an opportunity to get your packages delivered to middle of New Jersey - take it. You'll spend less time getting there than you will shipping it here. This place should be bulldozed and these people should all be out of a job. This place is worse than hell. read more

They had lost my important package that someone paid express mail to send to me several days before and acted liked they didn't and as if it were my fault. They told me I could come pick it up and when I got there, it was not even at the post office. The clerk insisted to see my phone even though I gave her the tracking number multiple times.
