I didn't think this location could get worse, but it has. Very poor and rude customer service, even worse than before. Always long wait lines since workers take their sweet time and don't care that there are lots of people waiting. Once you do get to the front counter and ask any questions, they either say they don't know (even if it's simple mailing questions any postal worker should know) or tell you to read the signs posted to get the information and even give you the wrong information with attitude and being annoyed that you're inquiring. Workers probably feel secure since it's a government job and no matter how slow they work or terrible they are to customers, they still have a job. It's a shame there are no repercussions for their unprofessional behavior. This USPS location has always had long wait lines since I've been in the area over 10yrs now, it is way overdue for improvements in the management and staff. This post office continues to steal packages and mark them as delivered. They must have a system whereby they either drop them with someone else, or multiple people are in on the thievery. They clearly don't know what they are stealing as they often steal fairly useless items. What is amazing is that we are all home because of the quarantine, yet they continue to say packages were delivered or no one was there to answer the door. If you have a similar story, please report it here, call the post office, and lodge a formal complaint with the Post Master General. In a time when the Postal Service has been corrupted by the current administration, this post office and its workers continue to commit fraud (behavior which unfortunately began far before the current mess we are in). This post office horrible they claimed to deliver a package to my mailbox and they didn't. The regular carrier was out and has the key to the gate so they were unable to deliver any mail or packages that day. actually no mail wasn't delivered until two days later accept for the mail that was supposed to arrive that day in question and never did. I tried talking to the supervisor and they wouldn't come talk to me. I needed to report sensitive mail that wasn't received from the same day my package was supposed to be delivered. We have cameras and it shows no carrier came in two days until the regular carrier came back to work. The delivery lives a notice in your mail box and don't even bother to go knock on your apartment's door, which forces you to go get your property at their location. Horrible perpetuation of laziness. I needed to redo my passport and have used this location in the past, so I went back today. This was a total difference experience. During my ONE HOUR AND HALF WAIT, a saw the staff been so rude to customers. The passport service was suppose to open at 11am at 11:40am no one is came to help or informed the customers why they are 40mn late opening. The line was super long people start leaving loosing their morning with no explanation from the post office staff. No manager in charge in the building, terrible customer service / rude. Went to get a passport application wasn't sure if I needed a renewal form or new passport form . Currently have a passport didn't know I needed a new passport once I turned 18. I've been to this post office a good 4 or 5 times and every single time I go, I'm in and out. The service here is very speedy and I appreciate that. I also like that they always have more than 2 windows open to help people at once. This particular locations stays open very late. They're open until 7pm which is amazing because post offices close at 5. I also like that all of the postal workers that I've interacted with there have been great, they've been very helpful. As stated repeatedly by other reviewers, the Postal employees here are generally rude and lazy. They make your visit difficult to fuel their own laziness. For example, today, I have a package that says 'Available for Pickup' which is pretty self-explanatory. I arrive with the tracking number, the woman at the window is texting on her phone, looks up to tell me the tracking must be printed out from a machine. I say that I have the tracking right here in my hand, what's the difference? She insists, so I do as she asked. She then tells me that 'Available for Pickup' means that the carrier will reattempt delivery today. I know this is false but it's clear she isn't going to help me. She goes back to texting and I am forced to leave empty handed. The post has been delivered for the day but the tracking still says that it's waiting to be picked up. Infuriating. The entire staff needs to be replaced with competent individuals who actually want to work there. read more

This place is so bad. Your packages marked as delivered, but never were. Speak to the USPS drivers en route and they don't know what happened. Speak to the supervisors and they just talk to the drivers. You get nowhere. There's a place called Hell. It is also called The Manhattanville US Post Office. Obviously not by choice, I had to come to this location to pick up a package. Don't even get me started on how we got here in the first place. 'Missed delivery' when I was home all day? Didn't even attempt to deliver again... So they sent it straight to HELL (Manhattanville US post office) When I entered the gates of hell, the LINE. Oh my god. Everyone with their orange slips just standing there pissed off. I'm all like "patience is a virtue". I'll be positive. I stand in this line for 20 minutes. Because there is only ONE WORKER to help all of us, and she's literally moving at a snails pace. When I finally get to the window, I give her my slip, ID and she goes to fetch my package. I'm like THANK THE LORD because I've already waited long enough for my Amazon prime package. She takes 10mins, slowly maneuvering around the fiery pits of hell, the line gets longer, and I keep apologizing for the line being at a standstill. She finally comes back and this is our conversation: Devil: idk dunno where it is Me: what do you mean D: idk M: so........... It should be here. D: well it's not M: well can we file a lost claim or what D: we have your phone number so we'll call you whenever we find it M: k. She might as well said "sorry not sorry" because she didn't apologize once for the inconvenience caused and how long it took to wait in that demon line. At this point I wonder what I did in my past life to deserve this. I just really wanted my Anastasia eyebrow powder I bought on Amazon. My color is out at Sephora stores EVERYWHERE. I go home, defeated. I start cooking lunch. Lemon butter chicken. Cause I DESERVE it after my visit to hell. I'm about to put more butter in the skillet when I get a phone call with no caller ID. I'm not picking that up. What a freak. They leave a voice message: "Hi Mr or Mrs ********. This is hell (Manhattanville US Post Office) calling. We found your package. So come back to get it. I've got to agree with the previous reviewer. This post office is a big "f-- you" to the neighborhood. There are never any supplies, from voter registration cards to priority mail envelopes, and even behind the counter, they're like as not to e.g. run out of postcard stamps if you need to buy a lot. The space is also dirty as hell, and extremely poorly maintained. Bits of the tables are taped together. There's always several long lines to the different service windows, and at most one person working in each area - sometimes, for relatively long periods, zero people. read more

I am traumatized by this USPS. The lines are long, the govt employees that work here have no incentive to move it along or to be civil, and the rates are, shockingly, the SAME as FedEx or UPS. This begs the question, why is a service that is subsidized by all of our tax dollars the same price as one that is a private business and not subsidized by anything other than its own earnings? After trying to ship a bag to upstate NY at the location for 25 min with no success and lots of attitude, I checked my iPhone and saw that there was a FedEx a few blocks over (125th and 7th). I found this Yelp page while trying to find the hours for this particular post office. I felt compelled to review it, something I almost never do, only after seeing all the overwhelmingly negative comments. I've had fine experiences at this post office. I've bought stamps there on multiple occasions, and the machine has been fine. Today I sent something internationally. I brought reading material, just in case, but there was no line. The teller gave me a customs form and a pen to borrow. I didn't need to wait when I came back to her. She was polite and gave me an estimate of when my package would arrive. What else are we asking for from a post office? Sure, it's run down and there was a homeless person there with a lot of stuff but that's a larger, societal problem, not the USPS's. FedEx and UPS facilities aren't much better. This post office will suit your purposes. read more

This post office does have substantial problems but the reviews are waaayyyy harsh. I have been to worse post offices in New York. Once I had a package disappear that I sent from the Columbia U location and when I made a claim, they were rude in the extreme and gave me wrong (international instead of domestic) forms to fill out so the insurance claim would be rejected. I think people react to the lack of supplies and poor condition of this building and just love to hate the post office. Yet they have never lost a package of mine and always loan me tape or a pen when I need one. They have been my local post office since 2001. The rates are far, far cheaper than UPS or FedEx in my experience. Yeah the lines are usually, but not always, crazy long waits. Once in awhile I have gotten lucky and had a short line. They are understaffed and I think the workers are tired and get abused by customers all day long. Also, the management seems bad. I feel bad for employees with a negative work culture and angry customers all day long. I use the machines when possible and the drop slot as much as I can, and I wear comfortable shoes for standing 30minutes when I go there. I use the time in line to finish stamping or writing addresses.....or I read a book or write a nice long email to someone. If you are calm and patient and expect the line, you will feel positive when you get to the window. You would be surprised what a smile and a "How are you doing today?" will do to enhance your service experience. Don't beat up on the clerks just because someone else did. Think for yourself. The person you are dealing with may be frustrated, burned out, or grouchy but they don't probably run the post office and are not responsible for the lack of staff, services, supplies, training, or good management. The neighborhood was poor/working class until recently. We long time residents usually were accustomed to poor quality services in many areas of our lives so aside from an occasional complaint, we resigned ourselves to this post office. Recently, Ivy League college students moved into the neighborhood and because they are used to good customer service and being treated well, they get outraged at the dearth of good services throughout the area, not just the post office. They are, to put it delicately, confident in their self worth and entitlement to the best in life. That is admirable and healthy self esteem but for people who.have been more beaten down by life, it can come across as feeling superior to the hood's prior residents. The community seems irked.....with a kind of "If it was good enough for us, well its good enough for you" feeling. Understandable. That said, I miss the stamp truck they used to have at this post office. And all of these comments concern the retail store front. Mail DELIVERY is a whole other story, and not a pretty one, I'm afraid. So go to this post office being respectful and patient. It'll go slow. After 4 or 5 weeks a package I attempted to pickup 3 times at this post office was returned... the relief that I felt knowing I did not have to go back to this post office was like an unexpected birthday gift! I've lived off and on in Harlem/Morningside Heights for 20 years, and when I think back over that time I can remember at least 3 significant times when the attitude and service at 125th made me question my sanity and I've vowed never again. Here's the most recent... Stand in package pick-up line to get USPS pkge... nice young lady tells me there's postage due... she explains she can't take cash, and escorts me w/ the pkge to a coworker who she says can... older co-worker, looks at pkge, me, and fellow employee as if we somehow had insulted her...(we had waited until she finished helping her customer)... with no regard for customer service, civility, or common sense she begins barking about how I have to get on line... her coworker explains that I was on her line but now just need to pay postage due... (i've got money in hand)...none of this makes a dent...if you've ever been to this post office on a weekend you know there's rarely not a line... i opted to come back... strike one! Strike 2 - following weekend, I join the pay line. Get to the cashier, explain what happend the previous week. Cashier tells me I have to get on the pick-up line! I explain i did that before and after a long and heated conversation with the manager... who, despite agreeing that the first young lady was correct in escorting me to pay for the pkge... now insisted that I join a line over 15 people long to pick-up a pkge she knows I have to pay for.. i even tell her that this is the kind of customer service why this post office is ranked one of the worst in the city... her response, "Whatever!!!" Mind you... this was a 10 to 15 minute interaction... which THE MANAGER engaged in rather than have me give them money and be on my way! Strike 3 - ballgame! A beautiful Saturday morning. Only 2 people on the pick-up line. A different young lady goes to retrieve the pkge.... comes back after a time to tell me it was returned... no notice was sent... no apologies... no explanation... I am grateful it was just an item I bought online and the company will reimburse me. I know that workinig with the public is a tough job and there are rules that make providing service fair and equitable. But this experience reminded me once again that this post office plays by a different set of rules... I e-mailed a formal complaint on their website and I'm posting this as a way to vent my frustration and warn others. Until I hear or see a write-up in the news about how the 125th St Post Office completely revamped... from top to bottom. I hope never to have to deal with them again. I only come here when I have to pick up a parcel. There is always a long line that moves slowly. I've been to many different post offices and I find this one continuously understaffed. When I check the tracking info I would see the message, "Notice Left (No Secure Location Available)". No secure location available? I live in a 24/7 doorman/concierge building. All I can say about services for deliveries and scheduled pick ups is: prepare for the worst and hope for the best. If you don't much care for false hope, then just be pleasantly surprised when things get delivered and picked up as planned. I have scheduled pickups for Click and Ship packages and each and every time, I get a notification that it has indeed been collected, but when I get home, it is still sitting by my mailbox. One particular lad was literally harassing me telling her co worker I'm uneducated, where do i come from ( because I wrote my address the wrong way ) , instead of helping me she literally was abusing me I left in tears . I've noticed that when ever I expect a delivery from anywhere using this post office I never actually receive it. Ever. Always get a "delivered" email but my door bell never rings and I usually plan to be home to receive my packages since I live in a 5th floor walk up with no locks on front door and no apts in first floor, Things will get stolen if left in lobby. These people won't even bother trying to deliver let alone ringing doorbell for me to come down and pick up my package. Now I am absolutely sure they just steal everything.
