Why is everyone so hard on these people, they try to find lost packages!! They didn't lose them but if you talk calmly they will be able to get on the same page and help. This place sucks, it only for package pick up. Dont go there unless you are told. No one there to assist you with any other type of service.

I went to get a package and there were signs that led me to a customer entrance on the left side. When once I got there, all the doors were CLOSED (which made me confused at first) with a bunch of signs that said "ring the bell ONCE" for assistance. I rang the bell waited 5 minutes, then another person arrived, rang the bell and we both waited around another 10 minutes or so. I had exams to study for so I ended up calling their number and they told us that they didn't hear the bell, but the bell was loud and definitely working??? Even the person that came to help us (who was really nice by the way) tested it out and it was working just fine. I have no complaints for the person that picked up the phone or for the person that assisted us, but there definitely has to be a better system for pick ups. My advice: call if you no one comes to assist you!! Otherwise you'll be waiting forever (or leaving). read more

So if you order a package from Amazon and ship it to Costa Verde and you're not home, you will get a lovely slip letting you know that you can pick up your package at this location. There may be other cases, but this is one I know of for sure. PLEASE AVOID! ship your package to another friend's house or something. You get here, and they make your ring a doorbell to get someone's attention. When I was here there were 3-4 of us standing outside ringing the doorbell repeatedly and it wasn't another TWENTY MINUTES (yes i was keeping track) before somebody came to the window. When the window was opened, the usps lady revealed an entire mail room of people who chose to ignore the doorbell. There must have been a good 50 people in there at least, i kid you not. Okay I'm sure that sorting mail is important but still... 20 minutes of nobody answering a constantly ringing doorbell is ridiculous. After that 20 minutes, I was there for another 40. Why? Because they could not find my package. It was so frustrating. They finally found it misplaced in the middle of another pile of packages. Argh. That mailroom is so terribly disorganized it makes me scared to send anything. I have a problem with my shipping address, so I called ahead and warned them, and asked them to NOT send any of my packages back to sender. Despite this, they sent THREE of them back across the whole fucking US. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but it's getting super hard. A couple of months ago, I started losing packages that were supposed to be delivered by this office. I submitted a claim and to this day I have not heard back. Then I started losing more packages...it was getting ridiculous! I did not have the same problem with UPS or FedEx so I'm almost certain it is not theft, like they're claiming it is. Also, a couple of times that our packages show as being "delivered", my roommates and I were all home, downstairs, talking to each other. If any packages were delivered, we would've heard a doorbell or seen the package right outside just minutes later. Another time I was right outside the door walking the dogs when the USPS system shows that the package was delivered at that "exact" time. What's the deal?? I tried calling in a million times (they know me by now and they even told my roommate I called a lot when he lost a package and decided to call in recently). I think by now, they probably blocked my number or something because I keep getting a busy signal. If they do their job right, I wouldn't need to complain! The one time I was able to get through to them, the person I talked to was courteous and nice enough and he even told me he would make sure the problem doesn't continue...it's still continuing! I've resisted giving them a review up until now, but this last missing package was the last straw. I've been sitting in the office for over 20 minutes and my package can "not be located" in the facility. The package was not delivered because the driver stated there was "no secure location" to leave it. Wrong. There is no supervisor present. I am now waiting even longer to see if they can get ahold of a supervisor to see where my package has been sent. Now a supervisor will be contacting me tomorrow, I won't hold my breath. read more

If there was another post office shipping hub thing I could go to, I would. This place is terrible. Ive always had to wait 15 to 20 mins to get my package and there is always a line when I show up. But just today proved why this place is terrible. I live in a condo near Doyle. Its really nice with all old people as neighbors (this is important for later). I ordered a gift for my mom for her birthday and it said it was "delivered", but I did not get any package. So i thought ok. it must be here. ill go check. So I go and talk to who I think was the manager. He checks but they dont have it, saying it was already delivered on the friday (5 days ago) I tell him i didnt get it and he pretty much calls me a liar and says that if the mailman said he delivered it, he delivered it, so somebody probably stole it or I have it and im lying. So in the end, I got mad. He told me that it wasnt his problem and that im out of luck and that If i wanted, I could call the "Postal Investigation Service" to start a case. When I said I wanted the number, he was shocked. then took 20 MINUTES to get me the number. No Help AT ALL Im losing my patience with the WHOLE USPS, which is a shame. read more

I have to say that either the people to whom all these negative reviews refer to have either been replaced, or those scathing remarks are highly exaggerated. I have lived at Costa Verde since August of last year, and when I get a package, I'll admit- they dont knock on your door to see if you are home and will simply leave a slip in your mailbox. Side note- if you happen to catch the mailman right before they leave, you can ask them for the package on the spot and in my experience, they will usually comply- they usually finish at around 5-530, which is when i typically check my mail anyway. As far as that is concerned, they will either leave the package in a larger mailbox for you to retrieve or take it back to this location (Shoreham Dr) for you to pick up the next day. However, with only a handful of larger mailboxes in which to stash your package for retrieval and several hundred residents to accomodate using these larger mailboxes, its unreasonable to expect to find your packages in them each time they are delivered. Over the course of my stay at Costa Verde thus far, its been about 50/50- keep in mind that I have gotten A TON of packages (hovering around the 30-40 range- from textbooks to teapots to vintage vinyl records) from USPS, FedEx and Amazon that have been processed through this system, and I dont particularly mind it. Moving along to service at the location itself- the longest I've had to wait in total (ringing the bell for service, handing in my slip, waiting to receive my package and walking out of there, with a line of several people by the way) has not exceeded five minutes. I wouldn't expect treatment of the same caliber of that which Leslie V received, but then again, my experience with this place would not suggest that its out of the question. Although Im not the biggest fan of the postal service, the service that has been extended to me by this particular branch, well, serviceable. read more

I had the same thing happen to me as Bomin K... I was expecting a package and had been checking the tracking information as to its whereabouts. On the day it was supposedly delivered "in or at my mailbox" I excitedly checked my mailbox within 2 hours of said "delivery" there was no sign of my package. It was not in my mailbox or in the parcel locker. After weeks of phone calls to and from customer service and this branch, I am no closer to getting my package than I was to begin with. While the person I've been communicating with from this branch has shown me excellent customer service, I'm still out an anniversary gift, and my anniversary is quickly approaching... Once I was told to file a claim, it was denied because the records show that it was delivered. Thanks for nothing. From now on I'll be getting packages delivered from other companies. read more

When my packages require signature authorization and I'm not home, this is the USPS location at which my packages are stored until I come to pick them up. In my experience there's usually a slow line of ~5 people on Saturdays, but it's empty on weekdays before noon. Parking on the street has been fine for me each time. Generally, it's my international mail that gets marked as "requires signature," probably because the senders don't want to risk their packages getting stolen. It's pointless to complain about the mailman not leaving the package at your doorstep when it's a specified protocol for them to need a signature before handing it over. I can buy things off the internet and people bring them to me. That's amazing. Having to go to a place to pick them up once in a while is no big deal. Most recently I picked up a package mailed from Russia and it was a painless process. The mailman had arrived at my house on Wednesday morning and I wasn't present. The pink redelivery slip that they left said it'd be available for pickup the next day after 10 am. So on Thursday I drove to the Shoreham location at 11 am during my lunch break, and nobody else was there. I rang the buzzer once, and within 3 minutes a cheerful man opened the window. He took my slip. He came back with the package. We said our pleasantries and I left satisfied. Sure, sometimes there's a USPS worker (generally on the weekend) who seems incredibly annoyed. It won't help you get your mail any quicker if you get annoyed too, will it? It's fine. The vast majority of the time, for the vast majority of people, this USPS location functions the way it's supposed to. If you have a terrible experience and lose your package here, you're going to be more inclined to write an angry negative review. That's normal. For people finding these reviews on Yelp, please know that this place is reasonably far away from being a horrific hellhole. read more

I'd like to correct Debbie L. because I live at Costa Verde as well but I know for a fact that this usps does NOT deliver any packages to your door or even bother coming up to your door. They just leave a slip in your mailbox and make you come pick up your package. They rarely even use the large package delivery mail boxes which they are SUPPOSED to use and leave you a key in your mailbox but they've only done that for my boyfriend once. When I went to go pick up my package today, I asked why they don't use the large delivery mail boxes to make it easier for us and he told me if the mailman doesn't feel it's safe then he will just bring it back...are u serious? It's La Jolla LOL of course our packages are safe in the locked mail boxes! I hate that usps doesn't even attempt to see if you're home & make us come pick up our packages at this post office that takes long, curvy, up & down roads to get to. USPS is the worst. :P AND they lie, telling the company I ordered from that they came to our door when all of Costa Verde knows, usps don't go to doors for residents on Costa Verde blvd...guess going up & down the elevators are too much of a hassle for them. :P read more

I was expecting a package and USPS Tracking said it was delivered on Dec 14th "in or at my mailbox" I checked my mailbox on the same day it was delivered and nothing was there. This is not a sender's fault nor is it mine. There is no way my package could have been stolen either because it was delivered IN MY MAILBOX and I only have an access to it. Now it's 12/23 and I still haven't gotten my god damn package. I went to this place to ask about it, and the lady there told me this is so unfortunate but there's nothing they can do about my package because it says it was DELIVERED. Absolutely terrible mail delivery, I was home and the mailman came by and yet I didn't get a doorbell or knock instead I got a delivery slip saying I wasn't there and the package would be ready for pickup 2 days later (it was a saturday). So I then went online and followed the slip instructions and even left a note saying please knock - I live in a home by the way not an apartment - and monday comes by and SURE ENOUGH no delivery even though I spent all day waiting on this important package. Now today tuesday there is still no delivery so I'm going to head over there and give them a piece of my mind. TL;DR- The mailman doesn't feel like delivering packages so don't use USPS to ship. The usual Postman from Monday to Friday is good. He actually uses the mail box for large parcels However, who ever is in charge of Saturday delivery is just a lazy slob. I guess it's a common practice, since i have seem different deliveryman for Saturday delivery does this. They do not even attempt the delivery, every package is left in the van, all they ever do is write the note then put them into your mail box. If you want your package urgently, yes, they just leave a note even for overnight shipping, (it's overnight shipping for a freaking reason) I suggest you to go to the mail box from noon, and hunt down the deliveryman. read more

Terribly, it took 12 phone calls to get them to answer the phone. Many times my call gets picked up and hung up within a second. This is my second encounter with this unit. First time, they refused to deliver my package to the door like other mailmen do. They just leave a slip to tell you to pick up the package, which totally defeats the purpose of having things delivered to you. Second time, they refused to deliver the package again and also refused to hold the package. They're sending it all the way back to the UK, after spending a whole week in customs. If you see on your tracking that your package is at 92122, good luck because you're never getting it. read more

This branch is composed of two divisions, La Jolla and UTC. The folks at the La Jolla side are great. On the other hand no one helps you at the UTC side. I would really like to say that over the past 2 years, I have always been very happy with the service i received when picking up packages. Over the past week, I have been even more pleasantly surprised since i was desperately tracking a package that had been stuck in international customs and then misrouted (no fault of this Post Office). The woman on the phone was a delight (even though she was handling both the phone and the counter at that time), but she went to great lengths to provide me with information. Today, I received a missed delivery notice in my mailbox (hurray, the package had been found!), saying i could pick the package up the next day after 10am. I just happened to be in the neighborhood at 15 min. before the post office's closing time, so i wanted to give it a shot. Maybe the package had been brought in already. Two employees at the counter helped me out superbly, even promising to bring the package over to me (waiting in my car), since they were expecting my mail deliverer to be driving in to the depot any minute. Updated: So after 15 attempts calling the office, they finally answered and no one knows exactly where my package is. I reported this post office to mail theft. The closing supervisor said he was gonna deliver it to me himself and even gave me his personal cellphone number, but two days later I still have not received my package. This is the bermuda triangle of postal services. --------------- Probably the most frustrating experience. My package arrived in this post office on Tuesday 2/3 so when the tracking said "out for delivery" I was diligently waiting in my apartment for the package to be delivered at my door. However, the mailman didn't even bother to deliver it instead leaving a note in my mailbox that I wasn't in the apartment. So I filed for a redelivery that night. The next day when it was supposed to be redelivered, I still got nothing. So I decided to go directly to the office the next day to pick it up where they said it was being delivered that day. I still have not received my package even though my other mail has been delivered. I called the closing supervisor and he said that he would mail it to me himself that night and that he finishes at 7:30 pm. I still have not received by package. I sent a certified letter nearly two weeks ago from my local post office, to an address in San Diego. After monitoring the tracking number, the letter was in San Diego within a couple of days. According to the tracking information, it has been sitting in San Diego out for delivery for the past 10 days! Finally, I put in a claim with the post office. I receive a missed call from a number I didn't recognize, which just happened to be for this branch. I called them back, and the guy who answered the phone goes "Oh yeah, we lost your letter. This office has serviced my postal mail for years now, and I've never had any problems. Today, I needed to make an unusual request, with a short time fuse, and they came across beautifully. While their phone rang many times before being answered, and then the woman who answered put me on hold for a minute, she then came back and was very helpful, and caringly so. My postal delivery guy also got in on it, and was even more helpful. I have had generally good experiences with most USPS offices over the past 10 years -- there's been a definite increase in their customer service orientation over what I remember from 20 years ago -- and today's experience was just the icing on the cake. I live at Costa Verde as well and I gotta say something in USPS's defense: 1) They don't ever go up to your apartment, because most people actually leave notes on their door saying they're not going to be home, so please deliver the package to the office. Knowing how little time the mail delivery person has compared to the number of units at CV alone, I don't blame him or her for just leaving a note in my mailbox or delivering the package to the office without checking whether I'm at my apartment first. 2) The reason that they don't put the package in the big mailbox for you is because a-holes in the complex aren't checking their mail and picking up their packages from the big mailboxes, or they took the keys with them, or there simply are that many people receiving packages. I've been angry about this before and made it a point to look at the big mailboxes every time I check my mail and realize all the big mailboxes have no keys hanging outside almost all of the time. 3) The Shoreham Dr place is okay. For all the times I've gone there, yes, there is usually a wait. Are they slow? Yes, but we're talking about searching through mountains of packages here. You've been there. You've peeked inside that warehouse through the door. They have packages everywhere! Even if the packages are sorted by location and all the packages are sorted correctly, they still have to look through one pile of package, let's say for one CV building alone, to find yours. Given the amount of big mailboxes that are taken up, we can estimate that the pile sitting at their warehouse isn't exactly small. I've always received normal customer service there - as expected, but not so awesome that i want to write a letter to USPS - so I don't really have any comments on that. Folks, this is USPS we're talking about here. Remember that "slow motion hallway" from SNL? Yeah, USPS exists in its own slow motion hallway. You're not gonna get UPS quality service for half the price. You want super-duper-lightning-fast delivery service so you can get that awesome thing you bought from Amazon sooner? Select UPS service (no FedEx, particularly no FedEx Ground, I got a whole epic saga on FedEx Ground for you) next time you order stuff. We get what we pay for, that's how it is. read more

Most of the bad reviews I read on yelp seem to be exaggerated, and are likely written by people that either had an unusually bad experience or are just venting misplaced frustration on the internet. That is not the case here. All of these reviews are 100% accurate, and describe the exact situation I am in. The tracking on the package that I ordered says it was delivered 2 days ago, but I never received the package or a notification that it would be available for pickup. I have contacted the post office and they have told me several contradictory stories about what happened to my package. AVOID USING THIS POST OFFICE IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. read more

Had a certified envelope I needed to pick up from this location but decided to call first to get some info ahead of time. I figured the young woman who answered must have been having a bad day when she was very short with me. Once I arrived at the location, it only got worse. Again she short with me in person and when she issued me the wrong piece of mail in which I had to take it back, she told me I should had given her the right information, even though I handed her the receipt twice. She told me she wasn't here monday and she couldn't guarantee anyone else would help me. Not an experience I'd suggest to anyone.
