Is there a way to give negative stars? Because it seems like everyone here wants to do negative work. Seriously. I ask "Can I get some postcard stamps?" and they roll their eyes begrudgingly and walk to the back of the office and disappear for about 20 minutes. What are they doing back there? Avoid this Post Office if possible. The customer service rep I saw on January 29, 2013 was acting as if they're doing me a favor by helping me. She started trying to tell me to go fill out forms first even before I finished telling her what exactly I needed. LOL. I had to stop her by saying "Can you wait til i'm done talking ?" The other service reps all seemed to be all angry at clients, they all made rude and demeaning comments. Not the best reflection on the US Federal Government; I mean these folks really live up to the stereotype that a government agency is not supposed to be efficient and courteous. I always come here mid-day so there are never more than 3 people in line ahead of me. They will generally have at least 3 clerks available, so they keep the line moving quickly. Since I was recently married, I was especially excited at the fact that they have such a huge specialty stamp collection, in various denominations. I bought a few books of wedding ring and wedding cake stamp books to give my invites that personal touch. I appreciated the fact that the postal worker advised me to buy a 61 cent stamp (for up to 2 ounces), rather than 2 first class stamps, to mail my invitations. The post office in Rincon rules! I used to live in Rincon and would stop in to take care of mail on my way to the Farmer's Market at the Ferry Building. Despite having moved to a different part of SoMa, I still go back to them, because they're that nice (the women are nicer than the men, I've noticed). I went there to get my passport and the woman who helped me with the paperwork told me it should take about a month. She let me see my picture in case I wanted a better one. She gave me a phone number and website where I could track the status of my passport application. Two weeks later, I was back to mail a package, and she recognized me and asked after me regarding the passport. She asked me to let her know how long it took (one day less than a month). Their lines seem to move along pretty well. Also, any time I've approached the doors holding a lot in my arms, someone always rushes to open the door (often another customer, but still). read more

There's a passive aggressive postal worker there and if you end up in her line woe is you! She seems to have mixed feelings about her job and her willingness to provide customer service. She almost wants to punish those who may have an extra question or have a conflict with the way she is assisting you. I have to say if you need a post office-it's not the worst BUT if you need it to be somewhat stress free and with out overt hostility I would recommend elsewhere. read more

This post office has the cheapest size 1 po boxes in the city (about half the cost of other post offices). i used to have a po box at 18th st but ditched it when i moved to another neighborhood ... using usps.com made this all easy! i got to check out which post offices had available boxes, what their retail and lobby hours are, and what the costs were. i made my choice, paid with a credit card, and printed out a form which i presented at the post office, where they gave me two keys. (having a po box is useful when you have a reason to use a postal address in public and don't want to give your residence address.) read more

The line moves very slowly and the workers are also not in a rush so nothing moves fast here, especially being in the Financial District. I give this place 2 stars because the two times I have been here last time, the caucasian lady that helped me both times was friendly and I hope more of the other workers learn to be like her. read more

180 Steuart street post office location, what a dump! Horrible customer service! Bitchy attitude towards customers. This place is the worst; most of the employees are rude and unhelpful. Never get a PO Box there, they will lock it up on the inside even if you are one day overdue with your payment. After that, they will slap a $20 reactivation fee on top of $90 per year! I only come here becuase I work in the building otherwise I would avoid it at all costs. They never have more than 2 cashiers at a time & are always complaining that's it time for their break despite having a line literally out of the door. Slow slow slow. Long queues. I went for picking up a mail. And I had to wait like 10 minutes. Staff is also a bit rude.

Had to mail in my taxes day before it is due... there was a line of people waiting, and the automated center had a technical problem so I was not able to easily weigh/buy postage. I got a ride here and was hoping to catch the ride back to my office... so I had to be quick. I spotted a postal worker(not at a servicing window) in the back and he went out of his way to help me. He instructed me on using the other scale and determining the postage. Luckily I always carry around a handy book of stamps for such rush errands. I affixed the stamps and handed the envelopes to him, he looked them over and said that he would take care of the rest. What great service.. THANK YOU once again! read more

Today is 12-12-12 and so I thought I go down there and get a commemorative envelope with stamps and a few date stamps as a souvenir. There are 10 teller windows, but only 2 people working. And for whatever reason, describing the pace of work these two are doing was slower than slow. I mean the got all day, so why hurry? This place is totaly postal! There is a guy running around asking if people would like to use the stamp machine. Why doesn't he get behind a window and start processing customers? At one point another postal worker shows up for work and I clearly here the other guy tell her to take over window #2, but we never see her again. At some point one of the postal workers takes a break and we never seen her again either. We are down to one super slow postal worker. After 40 minutes in line I finally get to the window. Me: "Hi, I would like to buy a white envelope with a bunch of stamps and the date stamp clearly pressed on the Envelope" He: "What?" Me: "I would like to buy a white envelope with stamps because of today's date" He: "You can't do that" Me: "What?" He: "Are you going to mail the letter?" Me: "No, it's just a souvenir for today's date" He: "You can't come in here during Christmas season just for a letter and stamps and hold up the line. There are a lot of people waiting in line to get service" Me: "Yes I know, I just waited 40 minutes in line" He looks at me bewildered and I sense that there is tension in the room. So I calmly continue. Me: "Did you know this is the last time that this will happen this Century?" He: "What?" Me: "You know, the 12-12-12 date. There is no 13-13-13 or 14-14-14" He looks at me again bewildered He: "yeah we'll all be dead" He: "So you just want an envelop with Stamps? What kind of stamps? Me: "Any kind, just a row of stamps" He: "45cent stamps" Me: "Sure" He finds an envelope starts adding stamps. I think he finally got it. He: "That will be $3.21" I give him the money and say: "Thank you. I will see you in the next Century" Anyway, the guy behind me in the line said: This was the most expensive way of buying something in the area without getting much. After an annoying experience at the Embarcadero post office, I went here and was so relieved! Embarcadero had employees who just hated their job and hated people in general. At the Rincon location, they were quick, happy to help people and were able to help me within 10 minutes (and I was 5th in line). Oh, and they had some fun music playing in their building. Friendly service - the reason for the 1 star. Otherwise, not a lot of redeeming qualities, especially compare to my neighborhood postal service. They are so so slow... I think they have a quota of two people working at the counter at all times. Even the line is 20+ people long, 2 service people, even when other postal people are available. I had a very bad experience at this post office. I work not far from Rincon Center and decided to go there to send a package at my lunch time. There were only 2 cashiers available and a long line. I also needed to buy a tape to tape my package and had to ask cashier because there was not any tape available at their stands. So, I waited in line, and when came to the cashier, she gave me tape and said: "Help yourself". I went to tape my package while she was helping next customer in line. When I was done I turned around and realized cashier has just left. It took me about 3 min. to tape my package. I had to stay in line again. I like this post office from the standpoint that there is usually mid-day street parking available, it's convenient to finance district/embarcadero/ferry building areas that I eat lunch at frequently, and above all else- despite the fact that everyone inside looks like they are in a hurry in there- no-one is ever using the automatic postal machine. I use that thing every time and get in and out of there in a flash. The rare times that I seem to need a Postal agent there seems to be an 8-10 minute line- which can be good for some postal locations...This location is the least dysfunctional choice amongst the many SF postal locations I have visited in the North/North-East side of the city. read more

Yes, I have waited in line here, but the folks who work here are by far the nicest in the city and always make you feel less like a dolt for having to wait in line to pay tons of money to ship pkgs and mail. ...I put 12 first class stamps on a package. My wife told me she had received a free return label from Amazon. I carefully cut the unused stamps off the package. Tried to use 3 of the unused stamps by gluing to a letter. Postal clerk said he would not accept glued on stamps. I asked for the regulation. He walked away. ...I tried twice to register my issue on line with Post Office to get a correct answer. The same people who set up ObomaCare must have done the Post Web Site. I wasted half hour on this issue and web site refused to accept. Guess we cannot expect anything from Post Office or their web site.... read more

This is my workweek post office, due to its convenient location and the fact that they're open by 7AM. I usually come here before work and am the first or second person in line. As a result, wait time is near nonexistent and I'm in and out in 5 minutes or less. I've only been helped by two employees, one of which I prefer over the other. The one I don't care for vacillates between creepy-flirty and downright grumpy. read more

Was hard to find this location. Had to use the gps on my phone to find the location. Not only that they only had two people at the registers which made the time go by super slow. The lady had me rewrite my shipping label over twice. Then when asked about tracking a package that u can't locate. She told me to go ask one of her coworkers. Came in here on my lunch break to drop off a letter and buy some stamps. There was no line which was awesome and there were about 6 tellers working so they had plenty of people to accommodate the customers. This place is huge and has a lot of do it yourself kiosks incase you don't want to wait in line. It was clean and open and the teller, Dan, was super nice and friendly to me. I love the fact that this place is around the corner from my office and near so many lunch places. Makes it a breeze to run errands and get food on my lunch hour. read more

Stopped in before work to mail a package. Used the automated machine, only to find the parcel drop was somehow blocked closed. Stood *forever* in line while the two clerks moved with the pacing of frozen molasses when all I needed to do was leave the already stamped parcel with somebody because the automated center was out of order. read more

I use USPS once a month for random letters and packages. I've had two instances mailing from this location in which the item never arrived at its destination. I can't recall any instances mailing from other USPS locations. read more

Best Customer Service I have ever had ANYWHERE, face to face! I set up a PO Box that created some technical difficulties and They called me back to straighten it out. I needed to fix a Passport error and they pulled me out of line to get me to the right person. This Post Office is run like they were in the 1950"s. Walked up nicely to the Chinese lady at the register and she was throwing out attitude from the moment I walked up. All I wanted to do was send out a letter priority mail and the first thing she said with a rude tone, "did you read the sign?", well the sign was facing the opposite way OK no biggie I have to pay with credit card, when I asked her what the difference was with priority and express she got pissed like I was suppose to know. Hey fucktard I wanted to say, I don't usually frequent the Post Office so I do not have to deal with unhappy people who hate their job. What is the difference? I asked. I did tell her to smile which pissed her off more I guess. I am tired of the attitude at post offices, get a fuckin real job if you hate what you do, because you do NOTHING!
