Nice post office. It is pretty spacious inside with all the private mailboxes in the front lobby. There is a big drop box inside as well as an automated postage center machine where you can buy postage to ship out most packages. There is a counter area where you can buy shipping supplies and buy/hand off stuff to the folks at the counter. Some street parking in front but if too full there's usually a lot of parking around the streets. read more

Headed to the post office to renew my Passport. It was relatively early so there were only 4 people ahead of me. Parking stall was open right in front of the door. The post office agent was so nice, friendly and polite to all of the customers before me. When it was my turn, he review my application and reviewed what I needed to do. The great thing about this location is the Automatic Postal Center (APC). Very rarely do I stand in line. I sell a lot of my old clothes on Poshmark, so I print labels at home, package up my boxes, and place them in the postal box in the lobby. Super easy and convenient. I recently moved, and my husband and I were trying to decide if we wanted to get a PO Box in RWC or San Carlos. We opted for SC because of the APC, and somehow the employees here seem to be slightly more competent. Two weeks ago my mom mailed a bday card to me, but she put my home address with my PO Box city and zip code. I called the post office to see if they card would go back to my mom or if the post office employees would redirect to RWC. The supervisor I spoke to was so patient and understanding. It turned out that post office figured out the error and I got my bday card. I was given misleading information by (Lily) manager of the San Carlos Post Office regarding a Informed Delivery I was to receive on Friday, February 25, 2022. The information was that San Carlos hasn't received this First Class article of mail yet & that Informed Delivery was not accurate ( Over 95% accurate). I had received everything in the Informed Delivery before February 25, 2022 but on that day it wasn't delivered as scheduled. This is a nice post office, but I miss the old-fashioned vending machines that are more straight-forward for buying stamps. If they're busy and you don't want to wait for a postal clerk, this post office now features one tricked-out high-tech machine that baffles some of the older crowd. When I've been in that line, I've offered to lend a hand to a bewildered lady, and finally got the stagnating line moving again. Like most people, I hate waiting in line. This place was clean and organized. Staff were friendly and provided excellent customer service. Go here for passport services. You need to book an appointment online. When you come in, you buzz the door bell by the door, and you wait till your appointment is up. Wait in line till they call you. Don't be late! Come 10 minutes early. Have every document ready! You'll be in and out in 10 minutes. Amber was the one who helped me. She was efficient and most importantly pleasant. There was a little bit of a line, but it moved very quickly. Conveniently located on Laurel street but parking can be difficult. The staff are friendly and efficient. There are long lines at peak hours - lunch time and after work rush. Main thing: self-service kiosk for package mailing in lobby which is open 24/7! This is super convenient for us folks who can't get to the P.O. during the day during the work week, and sometimes need to mail packages last-minute at 10:30 PM for example. Beware though, at times (like, late Christmas Eve... the day after a long weeked... etc.) the package deposit box can be utterly jammed full so that the deposit roller bin thing won't even turn... you can buy the postage but not get it into the actual deposit box, so you can end up screwed and have to take it to yet another P.O. when the counter is open. So - check that the roller bin at the kiosk actually rotates BEFORE buying the postage via the machine. read more

Totally rude and aggressive postal clerk at the front counter! I walked in, and with an aggressive tone of voice, she states "one at a time". I was taken aback by her attitude, and asked "what did you need me to do?" She rudely replies with, "ONE AT A TIME", which I felt was towards my two packages that I had placed on the counter. I replied "WOW", in response to her abrasive interaction with me. She continued to be combative and aggressive towards me, then handed my package over to the clerk next to her and demanded that he help me instead. I asked for her supervisor, and asked her what her name was, and she suddenly had nothing to say! I had to get back into the line, and she called two other customers that walked in after me, while I waited for the gentleman postal clerk to help me instead. Who, by the way, was VERY kind, courteous, and professional towards me. I grew up in San Carlos and currently reside in Belmont - but I ALWAYS come into this office because for 45+ years, it's been my favorite! Not anymore!! DO NOT HAVE HER AT THE FRONT COUNTER ANYMORE until she gets proper anger-management, and customer service skills training!! I made a passport appointment at this post office last year. The appointment went fairly quickly and efficiently, and I had my passport done and delivered in less than a month, which was great. However, I've used this post office a few times for other things, and just getting in the front door is a disaster. It does not have a dedicated parking lot, and is on busy Laurel Street in San Carlos. Finidng parking is a nightmare, and the few lots that do exist are for "customer parking only" for neighboring businesses. It doesn't make sense to spend 20 minutes circling for a legal parking spot, then 10 minutes walking to and from the car, to pop something in a mailbox or buy a stamp. What is the point of having a post office if it takes longer to find parking at the post office than it would to hand-deliver the mail and save myself a stamp? read more

PASSPORT APPLICATION I am really surprised to see negative review about this post office location. We just used their services to apply for passports for our two kids and our experience was excellent. Customer Service from Amber at the passport counter was super. She made it very easy for us and was even kind enough to see us on a Saturday as one of the document was missing. It was also very easy to get an appointment unlike the San Mateo branch where I could not get anyone to even pick up the phone for three straight days. I hate going to the post office. I've been to post offices all over the country and this one is no different. Employees make me feel like mailing my package is such a hastle. I'm always friendly, and it's so rare to get friendliness in return. Why is this a thing at post offices? Do employees hate their jobs that much? Sherman helped me today and while he got the job done quick and effectively, just no personality and makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong by asking the cheapest way to mail things. When you need to see a teller, plan ahead and expect to potentially spend an hour in line. Usually there are 1-2 tellers at the counter/register. The pace is slow, and maybe they're not cheerful bubbly customer service, but they get the job done. These people have worked here for as long as I can remember (I've lived in San Carlos for the last 15 years!) so I love seeing their familiar faces. It's a typical post office in a small town that moves at a snail pace. It reminds me of simpler times! I usually go right when the post office opens to beat the potential crowd. There's a machine near the PO boxes that provides postage (no designs to choose from though) and can make your domestic shipping a breeze. Usually when I have smaller packages to friends in the US, I use the automated machine. I weigh the package, type in the zip code destination and it prints out the correct postage. After I attach the postage on my box, I drop the box into the bin and send it off (the bin is one way so no one can steal your packages). The best thing about the machine is that it's available 24hrs and there's rarely ever a line for it! The only down side to using the machine is you can't do delivery confirmation, tracking or international items. read more

Employees here now are fairly helpful from my experience 1-2 times per month dropping off packages, picking up packages, and other transactions. However, some USPS policies are not customer friendly and frustrating. Example: if you make a mistake using click-and-ship online and need to cancel a label and request a refund, they wait 2 weeks to refund you. Small package shipping domestically, no problem. Many bigger packages going overseas requiring insurance and other services. BIG problem. If there were a way to post feedback for the central USPS org and not affect rating for this individual post office, I would post there...but like many retailers they don't make it easy to do so. read more

On multiple occasions, I've come across a front desk clerk here who speaks to all of her customers in an apparent condescending and very rude manor. If you want to avoid a poor experience here. Stay away from the large black female with the overzealous weaves at the last table when you're waiting in line to be seen. I'll probably be filing a formal complaint soon. Seems like she has a chip on her shoulder for whatever reason. But she's just exuding an annoying and despicable behavior directed towards the customers rather than finding a more professional and effective means of finding inner peace. I feel sorry for her. I came here to get my passport processed for my family. The guy who did our paper work was very rushed and seemed like he didn't care. He made me retake my picture, saying my head was too big in the picture. Then after taking my paper work and nearly spending $400 I got a letter in the mail saying I had sent the wrong paper work and had to resend it with MORE money. I had to redo everything all because this guy rushed me and didn't do his job. Next time I will be going to a different post office, I don't care if I have to wait weeks. read more

If planning on coming to this post office, bring a loooot of time!!!! I work nearby and will occasionally come here after work around 3 pm. There is always a huge line in order to get to a teller - I have waited over 20 minutes once when I needed to ship something international and couldn't use the self machine. Even when planning on using the self service machine, plan to bring some extra time. Because the teller's are so slow, many times people who do not know how to use the machine will attempt and take for ever!!! In general, if you can avoid this post office and can go somewhere else, I would recommend it!!! After all, time is money, right? read more

Had an excellent service there for my APPOINTMENT to renew my PASSPORT. (Best to make an appointment for any passport-related issues- I think it's required) The lady (forgot to get her name) was very knowledgeable and helpful with all passport questions. I filled out the DS-82 (RENEWAL) ahead of time to speed up the process. My appointment was for 10:30 am. Met up with the lady at 10:20 am. She checked and confirmed with me for all the doc. needed. Explained the time it will take to get my new passport. Told me how much I need to write for the check and paid for the shipping at the front desk counter. I was out of there by 10:30 am. Noted: 1st-time passport fills out DS-11. Renewal of passport (Mail-in ONLY) DS-82. The applications are online or you can pick one up at the post office. read more

AVOID RONNIE! Will give you FALSE information! I just left this USPS and am not going here again, I'll go to the Redwood city one.. The African American lady with the crazy colored braided hair and super long fake eyelashes (Ronnie) is a total b*! I called in yesterday and the supervisor held a package for me. I go in today and she looks at me like I'm crazy and pulls out the wrong package and denying that my package is there. I told her that corporate said that the CORRECT package is here though & your manager said she held it. After smart mouthing me and shrugging her shoulders, I asked if I can get the updated tracking information since my package is apparently not there. She goes to the back with ATTITUDE and pulls out my CORRECT PACKAGE! It was there the WHOLE TIME! Had I had left it would have been shipped back to the seller! She was just too lazy to check! She then threw both packages at me and asked what I wanted to do, I repeated myself for the 3rd time & she moved her hands in a shooing very RUDE way and said okay BYE BYE.. referring me to get leave her like I'm a fly. Mind you, I spoke in a VERY soft tone and I came out of my HQ job during my lunch break, so there isn't any way I could have had came off wrong or as a crazy person. I have to agree that the staff lacks any enthusiam. I don't go to the Post Office regularly but almost every time I go, there is a line and I'm forced to wait. The clerks seem to move quite slowly and often times almost seem to intentionally upset thier customers. It is not uncommon so see customers get irrate and engage in some hostile debate. I've stood back and watched many of these situations unfold before my eyes over the years and to my surprise the clerks are usually entertained and antagonize their customers. Whenever possible I bypass the Post Office and go a competitor like FedEx or UPS. But, sometimes there are no other options. read more

This review is for their passport service, which was outstanding. Usually, the passport appointments are booked 1-2 weeks out; but on that day, they had a few openings so they were able to accommodate us on the same day. The lady who works there explained all the necessary documentation clearly on the phone while taking the appointment. So we were well prepared with our paperwork, and were in-n-out in 10 mins.
